Interview with British Vogue (2025)

Jonathan Bailey has always flatly refused to pose topless on a shoot. For Vogue, he relented. How come? “There was this pair of Loewe trousers and I thought, ‘Fucking hell, what an incredible silhouette.’ No one suggested it, I just knew it was right.” He pauses. “But please don’t mention I said I’m always asked to take my top off.” I plead with him. “OK,” he replies. “It’s the truth.”

But why all the prudishness? Didn’t he reveal his naked bum in season one of Netflix’s phenomenally successful Regency romp, Bridgerton? It was quite the performance, I say. Has it been nominated for any awards? “Not yet,” he replies, rolling his eyes.

We are lounging on a velvet sofa in an anteroom at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, the location a nod to the Brit’s imminent, post-stratosphere-hitting return to the West End. He was last on the London stage in 2022, in Mike Bartlett’s Cock at the Ambassadors Theatre, already a star, and yet the 36-year-old’s wattage has continued to grow and grow. Any attempt on my part to observe him dispassionately disappears quickly. His dark-haired and unshaven beauty is too intoxicating, as is his style. He is male-model catwalk-ready in pale blue Levi’s, an ivory Sunspel rib-knit short-sleeved polo shirt, off-white slip-on suede Birkenstocks and beige socks. M&S? “Uniqlo – they’re my favourite holey socks,” he answers, raising a tanned, muscular arm (an Omega De Ville watch dangles from his wrist) to scratch his head. His biceps look like they’ve done time in the gym. “I did that on purpose so you’d notice,” he says cheekily. “I’ve got real gunnage.”

Bailey has managed to achieve what was once thought impossible in Hollywood. He is among a new guard of out actors to be lusted over by men and women (the latter tag him their “internet boyfriend”) while also evading falling into a gender pigeonhole, snagging roles of every persuasion. Tragedy, comedy, singing, dancing, stage, big screen, small screen, fashion week, fan mobbings… he can do it all. Scarlett Johansson, his costar in next year’s looming instalment of the Jurassic Park franchise, recently gushed on the red carpet: “I adore absolutely every single thing about that man.”

Bailey, who despite a tightly honed skill set never attended drama school, has been acting since the age of seven, when he was scouted by the Royal Shakespeare Company to star in its production of A Christmas Carol at the Barbican Theatre. But it was in 2020 that he became swarmed-in-the-streets famous, following his performance as Lord Anthony Bridgerton (the second series, in which his character, a viscount, took centre stage, became the most-watched English language series on Netflix). Hollywood beckoned. Now, he’s riding a wave of Wicked mania, his career having been taken to a whole new level thanks to his turn as the fleet-footed, high note-hitting, dashing male lead, Fiyero, opposite Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in the big-screen musical, not to mention the accompanying press tour to end all press tours. Next year, he’ll go on to star in the aforementioned Jurassic World Rebirth. True blockbuster fare.

Theatre, though, has been his foundation. A run of television hits (he has starred on the small screen in W1A, Bramwell, Broadchurch, Heartstopper, Fellow Travelers and Leonardo, among others) has been built from, and woven through with, a long career on stage – notable roles in the past decade, aside from Cock, include Company, King Lear, The York Realist and Othello. He has a shelf full of shiny hardware, with awards including an Olivier for best actor in a supporting role in a musical, for playing panicked groom-to-be Jamie in Marianne Elliott’s 2018 production of Stephen Sondheim’s Company, and a Critics Choice Award for best supporting actor in a limited series or movie made for television in Fellow Travelers earlier this year. On balance, he loves the protection of being on stage – how immersive it feels, how he feeds off the reactions of an audience. “There’s security in the theatre community,” he says.

And so, he is ready to make a return to live performance. His next role feels like a career zenith. In February, he will appear as Richard II in director Nicholas Hytner’s production at the Bridge Theatre. It is his most high-profile Shakespearean role to date, his second with Hytner, who first cast him as Cassio in Othello at the National Theatre in 2013. “People talk about fame and Bridgerton, but the one moment where I really thought I’d made it was when Nicholas cast me as Cassio 10 years ago,” says Bailey. “He gave me the biggest break. He’s been an incredible mentor. With Richard II, I am returning not just to a play, but to a theatre director. He’s seen me freak out in the rehearsal room. He’s seen me sobbing.”

On Bailey’s far-reaching talent, Hytner tells me: “Jonny is eloquent, mercurial, intelligent and transparent.” The star director is giving little away ahead of the production, only to comment it will reveal: “a feudal world on the cusp of modernity”. He recalls: “As Cassio in Othello – and later as Edgar to Ian McKellen’s King Lear, which I didn’t direct – he had the rare ability to speak Shakespeare as if it’s his first language. His imagination is vivid enough to put himself directly in the position of characters… It becomes completely natural in his hands.” Doubtless he will lean heavily on Bailey’s gifts for precision wit, dark charm and petulance for the flawed, weak Richard. “What do you do when a ruler is absolutely inadequate?” Hytner wonders. “How do you get rid of the rightful leader?”

In person, Bailey’s flair is plain as day. He’s not just stylish – he is friends with Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson, who dressed him for 2024’s Met Gala (and whom he designed a T-shirt with for the LGBTQ+ initiative he recently founded, The Shameless Fund), has worn Givenchy on the red carpet and modelled Emporio Armani eyewear in its latest campaign – but also intoxicatingly charismatic. He laughs readily and expansively, gesticulating often, occasionally jumping up like a young Rudolf Nureyev about to leap, before crashing back down and curling his legs underneath him. The writer and actor Phoebe Waller-Bridge, whom he costarred with in her 2016 miniseries Crashing (a precursor to Fleabag), once described him as “a meteorite of fun”. I can see why.

“There’s a big wonderful tribe of friends in London to which we both belong,” longtime friend and actor Andrew Scott tells me. “As well as being the most charismatic and gifted performer, he’s always struck me as someone who adores and prioritises his friends and family and loved ones. That counts for so much in my book. It’s so wonderful to watch Jonny soar.”

So too is he eloquent and honest, especially when we veer to the more personal, such as what it was like growing up questioning his sexuality and how he only came out as gay to his family and close friends in his early 20s. Did he have a sense of his sexuality from a young age? He indicates it was more of a gradual realisation, mentioning how he went out with a girl for two years in his early 20s. “It’s interesting with the binary,” he says, “where you’re perceived to be either this or that. That’s how I saw it at the time, but there are so many nuances to it. My experience of that relationship was not that I was in the shadows. She remains one of my best friends.”

“I think other people understood my sexuality before I was even aware of it,” he continues. As a young boy, he remembers rummaging through the family’s dressing-up box, jumping around and being flamboyant, and entertaining his grannies by singing and dancing whenever he stayed with them. He sounds like Billy Elliot. “A bit, but really Shirley Temple, if I’m honest.” He credits his parents with encouraging him to take up ballet. “I remember looking through the window at these girls at school in their tutus. They were doing, like, first position, second position, and I knew I just wanted to be in there.”

One night at a sleepover with primary school friends he remembers excitedly asking them: “‘Guys, guys, who else thinks they’re gay? Do you? I do. I do.’ It was a conversation I really, really wanted to have, to see if everyone else was on the same page,” he says. “But everyone went quiet.” Then a teacher called him out in front of the whole class. “I was having trouble with my work and he said, ‘Well, if you weren’t so busy being a fairy you’d understand.’”

More recently, and in addition to his work with The Shameless Fund, he became a patron for the charity Just Like Us, which aims to ensure young LGBTQ+ people in school and beyond can thrive. He is keenly aware of the challenges that still exist, even in the everyday. “I’ve always been a confident hand-holder in relationships,” he says. “I had a boyfriend who wasn’t experienced at holding hands in public. We got heckled in London. But that kind of behaviour is now outweighed by the smiles you get.” Is he currently in a relationship? “Not discussing that,” he answers, sharply.

We talk instead about how he deals with the nature of fame. “It felt quite hard-hitting after Bridgerton came out,” he says. “I really struggled initially; I was overwhelmed by it. But the people in your life have to adapt too. That’s the hardest thing: you see them struggling before you see it in yourself, someone pushing past your dear mum and dad to get a picture. I’m really good now at saying no to photos.” Does he think he might become too big for his boots? “Let’s see,” he says. “It would be good if you could keep your eye on me as we go through the next few years, tell me if I’m doing well or I’ve fallen down the [fame] hole.”

Friends like Andrew Scott will no doubt help keep him grounded. “The search for us to be in the right thing together is on,” says Scott. “Bert and Ernie the movie is the frontrunner, it just depends on who’s willing to shave off their eyebrows.”

Bailey was brought up in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, along with three older sisters, and later attended The Oratory School. His mother was an audiologist and his father, a one-time DJ who played in Sloopy’s, a ’70s nightclub just off Piccadilly Circus, would go on to become the managing director of Rowse Honey. “Every time I see an easy-squeezy bottle of honey I think my dad was an absolute legend.”

He was five when his grandmother took him to see Oliver! in the West End. He knew at that moment he had found his calling. His first acting role was at school, where he played a raindrop in Noah’s Ark. A year after starring in A Christmas Carol at the Barbican, he landed the role of Gavroche in the West End production of Les Misérables.

In 2017, he appeared in King Lear at the Chichester Festival Theatre, as Edgar, opposite McKellen in the title role. “We had amazing conversations,” he says of his costar. “I was like: ‘Tell me everything. Tell me what it was like back in the day.’ I assumed everyone would have been happily expressing themselves, fucking in the wings, all the things you’d hoped. And he said, ‘No, no. No one knew, not even in the most creative pockets.’”

But liberation can be found on stage too. Cock, as its title suggests, focused on some of the thornier realities of gay romance and proved life-changing for Bailey. “I was able to mine and explore and have this experience on stage which felt like everything I would want for my life. It was all about a boy coming out and falling in love at school, and somehow by experiencing it within someone else’s story, you can dress-rehearse your own life.”

We discuss his most recently released film, Wicked (a two-part adaptation of the hit musical, the second instalment of which will drop towards the end of 2025). “What did you think of it? Did you like it?” he asks nervously. I tell him I’m not usually a fan of musicals, but it took me by surprise and I found it emotionally touching. He breathes a sigh of relief. “Isn’t it lovely, isn’t it special, isn’t it actually!” he says, bouncing on his knees like an excitable teenager. “You’re the first person I’ve spoken to who’s seen it. When I watched it, I sobbed. I think it’s a masterpiece.”

For now, having just finished filming the latest season of Bridgerton, he’s finally taking a break. “Everything else is on pause until Richard II opens.” He admits finding it difficult going between roles and his everyday life in Brighton, where he moved in 2020 so he could be close both to the sea, which he loves, and his mother’s side of the family who live there. “It can be a hard, cold transition, so I get back to friends as soon as possible or I go travelling. I love Salento in Italy – I try and go every year.” Is he tempted to move to the US? “No. That’s a hard no,” he says. “I love New York theatre, so maybe, but it would be led by work.”

He says that, more than anything, he yearns for quiet. He spends time in nature, either walking, paddleboarding or mountaineering (in 2018, he hiked to Everest base camp and a year later climbed Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike in 24 hours in aid of a motor neurone disease charity), as well as cold-swimming in the sea and cycling (he has competed in marathons and triathlons). He likes the calm those activities bring him but always takes his noise-cancelling headphones wherever he goes. “I feel naked if I forget them.” What does he listen to? “I go through phases, most recently ’60s and ’70s California rock, and The Beatles.” But surely he parties too? “I love a dirty martini,” he says. “The dirtier the better. But really I’m obsessed with breakfast, especially oats. Sometimes I make my own granola. I just love a seed.”

While he might not tell me if he’s in a relationship, he is surprisingly candid when I ask him if he wants children. “Yes, it’s such a privilege for a man,” he says. “But I can’t bring children into my lifestyle now.” Because he is so busy? “Yes,” he answers. I tell him it’s never a good time. “I want to make sure I’m going to be present. I’m reading books on adoption. I might coparent with a woman, but I’m thinking it will be with a man.”

Just as we’re about to say goodbye, he squeals, holding up his phone. “Andrew Scott has just texted me! He calls me ‘J-Bads’. I told him I was doing a Vogue shoot, with the total self-awareness of what that sounds like.” He slips on his Birkenstocks. “You know I’ve got them in Parma violet too,” he says, as he slinks out of the door, headphones on.

AUSTIN AND ME

“For the last time.”

“Wife to the ‘king’. Icon to the world. Destined for more.”

Summary: At 18 years old, she fell in love with Austin, at 20 years old, she became his wife, by 22, she was his doll. In which Cynthia’s life changed drastically after falling head over heels with a man that promised her the moon and the stars. She takes us down the memory lane of what could’ve been— the perfect marriage.

The months following my birthday were hectic, with my advanced pregnancy, I was alone once again on my last trimester as Austin was away filming two movies, Dune Part Two and The Bikeriders. I found myself alone but I wasn’t lonely, because I had Lori with me.

Our lives has changed since ELVIS came out, he was an actor on the rise, finally getting the fruits of what he had been working on for a decade. I was an actress but he was more popular than me. I hadn’t worked since 2019, three years. And with a baby, I doubted I would go back any sooner.

By the time he was back home, it was November. And I didn’t expect to go into labor— at home.

I had never been so scared before. We had talked about possibilities of me having a birth at home but I was terribly scared. Even though I had a midwife, a doctor and Austin. It wasn’t an easy birth. I called the midwife a bitch, I think I even gave her another check with the subject ‘sorry for cursing at you, miss’

And after hours of labor, the baby was finally born. I was scared, emotional, in pain, sweaty, and the first thing they did was hand my child to Austin. I glared at the doctor.

“It’s a boy! Look, baby, a boy. Oh, and he has my face!” Austin was enthusiastic, maybe even more than he was when Lori was born.

Once I saw my boy, I held him close to me, the bundle in the blanket, oh, yes, he looked exactly like Austin. Nine months carrying him just so that he ends up looking like his idiot of a father.

But I loved my boy, his light blond hair, his blue eyes. His father’s copy. The same beautiful nose. I chuckled as I held him close. I felt happy.

I received a ton of congratulations from good friends, as well as many visits by Austin’s celebrity friends. I wasn’t in the mood to receive that many people but I tried to tell myself that they did it with their best intentions at heart.

Lori was a bit jealous, she had been crying nonstop at nights, Austin had to hold her and tell her:

“Mommy isn’t replacing you, she’s just taking care of your little brother. Don’t you love him?”

And she would cry louder, she still thought we would forget about her. So every morning, I tried to be the one waking her up. Even though I was sleepless thanks to Sean. I would color with her instead of sleeping once Julian was asleep, or take time to try and bake with her.

Christmas was a few weeks away and we were going to spend it at his grandparents home. They wanted to see Lori and Sean. Wanted to make them experience the Christmas Austin experiences as a kid.

So, we went Christmas shopping. I was one month postpartum but I felt hay I had to look god to be by his side. Because he looked amazing, so I went all out. And Thank God I did. Because some people took photos of us.

But I was more focused on getting everything on Lori’s letter than my facial expressions.

“I swear to God. I have never seen so much pink in my car.” Austin complained as he placed some bags on the backseat. The back of his seat was filled with stickers, Lori’s work. “And they don’t come off.”

“You can thank Lori for that.” I said as I sipped my drink. Getting into the passenger seat.

“You’ll wrap all the gifts, right?” He asked me once he got inside the car. I glared at him. I was taking care of a newborn and a four year old. “Got it. So princess wrapping, right?”

I chuckled and nodded. I was happy that this time I wouldn’t have to cook, or do much.

“We shouldn’t spoil her so much.” Austin said as he drove. “I mean, we got her too many presents this year.”

I didn’t answer, as a child, I was used to getting so many presents. My entire living room would be filled to the brim with presents for my sisters and I.

“Not sure in the right person you want to tell that.” I said, looking out the window. He scoffed.

I had my hair done up all 60’s beauty queen style, I had made the effort and as always, he started sticking his fingers onto my teased hair.

“Stop it.” I tried to slap his hand. Laughing.

“Stop it.” He mimicked my voice as he kept sticking his fingers into my bouffant.

The car then stayed silent after he stop, at a red light, he spoke.

“Callum called me to congratulate me. He said that— he was happy for us. He’ll make sure to make time to visit.” Austin said awkwardly, gripping the steering wheel.

Your friend and wife’s side lad con you on the birth of your child wasn’t something any man wanted.

“Really? He could’ve texted me.” I said, but I regretted immediately.

Yes, tell your husband that you wished your ex-lover would have texted you! Great thinking, Cynthia!

“So, does your grandma like Cinnamon Rolls?” I tried to change the topic to my baking.

“She does. She does.” He nodded, his face now serious.

“It’s over between Callum and I. You don’t have to worry anymore.” I said, looking down on my lap.

“That’s good.” He nodded, his hand rubbing his chin and then clenching his jaw.

Then everything went quiet, only the music he had on played in the background. I was now regretting saying anything at all. Again, someone should’ve slapped my mouth as a child.

The Christmas Day I was all day running around like a chicken without its head. Getting the things ready, my desserts, the kids. I had to bathe the kids, had to dress Lori, dress Sean.

In the end, I did myself. I kept my bouffant, did my makeup, keeping it light. I couldn’t go all out, it was in his grandparents house. And I wore a pink plaid dress, white flats. He wore his usual clothes, a white tshirt, a leather jacket, straight denim jeans and his black cowboy boots.

Once we arrived, he took charge of getting everything inside while I took the kids inside. Lori was so excited while Sean was asleep in my arms.

“Oh, my dearest loves!” Austin’s grandma opened the door, Lori rushing towards her and pulling her in for a hug. “I missed you too, sweetheart. I want to see your brother too!”

The white-haired woman looked at the bundle in my arms. The tiny boy in the blanket moving his head a little, his mouth open.

“Look at you, you’re shining!” Grandma said, making space for us to come in.

We settled down and his grandpa came to greet us, he had been busy with the turkey and the rest of dinner.

They were very loving towards the kids, never I can I complain about them. They did what they could and they loved my kids to the bone.

After helping us unwind, I sat on the old couch, smiling down at Sean.

“You look stunning, dear. Are you sure you just had the baby?” Grandma asked me, smiling at my boy.

“I’ve been holding up lately. Austin got me a cook and a maid.” I smiled.

I had to admit, Austin stepped up this pregnancy because he knew he would be away filming.

“You did good, sweetie.” Grandma patted his leg, Austin smiled with his lips closwd.

“But seriously, Cynthia, you look stunning.” Grandpa complimented me, the old man pushing his glasses up his nose bridge, as Lori sat on his lap.

“Thank you.” I smiled at the man. I enjoyed getting compliments, even more now that I just given birth, my hormones made me believe I was the ugliest girl alive.

“He looks just like Austin. I remember when we first saw him. He was this tiny red thing, he looked like a shrimp!” Grandma joked, laughing.

“I’ve seen pictures. He was so red!” I laughed. For whatever Austin’s faults were, he was a cute kid once.

“I was flushed, alright? Enough laughing.” Austin pouted. He took Sean from my arms, Sean looked very small on his hands.

We were staying the night of Christmas Eve, so after I was finally able to tuck Lori in bed after promising that if she fell asleep, Santa would come to put her presents under the tree. Lori had her own room at Austin’s grandparents house, since she was the only great-grandchild that ever stayed here.

Austin and I had our Sean into his portable crib, as we were in his childhood bedroom, in bed, he was all over me, his lips on mine as his tongue made his way into my mouth.

“So sweet…” he muttered on my lips.

The last thing I wanted was to have sex, but could I ever say no to Austin’s lip? No, I couldn’t refuse him.

“So pretty and all for me now…” He muttered again, chuckling and his thumb caressed by stomach.

I had been self conscious lately. I was trying to get rid of the baby weight, but Austin seemed to like it. He never commented on it. I remembered the time I was pregnant with Lori, starving myself because I thought he would want me always small and lean. He didn’t.

I couldn’t believe we could be fighting minutes before and now we were making out. I hated him but I loved him. I didn’t know what to think. I just hated how many times he had hurt me but I couldn’t stop loving him. Even after I had screwed around another man, no one could compare.

At about 12 AM, we went to the car to take our all the presents and put them under the tree. Austin ate the cookies and poured the milk down the sink.

“Look at this. We’re spoiling her too much.” He whispered as he walked backwards, looking at the present-filled living room. Yes, Lori was definitely the daughter of celebrities.

“She’s been good. And she deserves it. So she doesn’t think we’re forgetting about her and replacing her.” I said, crossing my arms. I yawned.

“Let’s go to sleep. I just know she’ll wake up at seven am.” Austin said, his hand on my lower back as he guided me to the bedroom.

We laid together at bed, I couldn’t sleep without Sean by my side. So I placed him between us. The tiny boy cuddled with me, Austin hugged Sean’s little body.

I was falling asleep after him, he looked so beautiful, they did. A part of me felt guilty for ever thinking of leaving him.

I was being selfish towards myself. That man had hurt me many times. But I couldn’t help loving him.

The next morning, Lori came to wake us up at eight am. Excitedly she pulled my feet and I woke up startled, Austin too, she even pulled Sean’s tiny feet, poor baby, he started crying after she scared him up.

“What is it, baby? Huh?” Austin asked her as he picked her up.

“Presents! Santa!” Lori smiled, nuzzling her face into Austin’s neck.

Once she saw the living room, she yelled excitedly, I watched as she opened her presents one by one, I held Sean on my chest, I couldn’t wait until he was old enough to enjoy Christmas too.

“I got you this.” Austin told me, he held a small box and opened it in front of me. A beautiful ring.

“Austin, you didn’t have to-“ I said, I was very excited. A new ring, from him! I didn’t know how to feel but my heart softened, I appreciated the thought so much. Very much.

“I has our anniversary date carved on the inside. So you have me with you anytime. Like you already do with the locket.” He caressed my cheek with his thumb before kissing my lips softly.

Afterwards I sat down to see Lori putting together some of her toys while I was playing with my new ring, just watching Lori made me smile. She was the reason I stayed with Austin, she was the reason I had out up with so much. She was the reason I was still trying to make things work with Austin.

And I thought. I really thought that things were starting to work out once more. Specially once we had breakfast all together.

After the breakfast, I was in the bedroom, tidying everything up. Until Austin’s phone vibrated a shit ton of times. I didn’t mean to be nosy but I was just curious so I grabbed it. Text messages from Kaia Gerber.

‘Merry Christmas baby💋’

‘I hope we can see each other so I can give you my present ;)’

‘I’m sure Cynthia wasn’t able to give you one anyways.’

I thought I could trust him once more. But I had forgotten how secretive and how low key he could be. I thought they were just mutual friends. I had been pregnant with his second child this whole time.

This was the last time I was trusting him.

a/n: this was actually the first thing i have ever written for eddie and it has been sitting in my drafts for almost a year now and i totally forgot about it so here it is!

warnings: not proofread, reader's on her period, bleeds through a little bit, being picked on/made fun of, use of pet names (sweetheart)

you should've known it was coming. all the signs were there: acne around your chin and along your jaw, a little more tired than usual, slightly more emotional or sensitive, the damn cramps that were tormenting your lower abdomen currently as you waited for mrs. click to finish her spiel on the causes of world war one so you could leave for your locker for some medicine.

as soon as the bell rang, you were up. you were the first one out actually, but you didn't pay the laughter coming from behind you any mind. you had a mission and you were focused. get to your locker. get some medicine. go to the bathroom. maybe skip the rest of the day depending on if the medicine helped any or not.

your locker was in sight. you could see it and you had never been so happy to see that metal cabinet. you were almost there, nearly seven steps from it, when someone's hands landed on your waist, pulled you towards the wall, and spun you around.

to say you were surprised to see that it was eddie munson would've been an understatement. he usually stayed in his own lane for the most part, other than his occasional rants in the cafeteria. he was normally all over the place too, but right now as you studied his expression to figure out why he had pulled you aside, he appeared rather focused, determined even.

since he didn't seem to be speaking, only looking at you with an almost uncomfortable and unsure face, you asked him, "can i help you?"

"um." his eyes left yours before looking at almost everything else, trying to think you assumed. you watched an idea pop into his head and he start to shrug off his jacket. "here."

now, it was you who was unsure and confused.

"what?" you didn't take it. you weren't cold. the offer was nice, but you didn't understand the meaning behind it.

he sighed, seeming a little fed up, and stepped closer to you. he leaned down a touch and started to wrap his jacket around your waist. you didn't stop him but did again question him.

"eddie, what are you doing?" you inquired as he tied the sleeves securely. he looked up at you before standing to his full height and leaning towards your ear.

"you've got a little crimson situation going on," he whispered in explanation and pulled back to see if you understood what he was hinting at. at first, your brows furrowed together, but he watched your face morph into realization and then embarrassment. they were laughing at you as you walked out of class earlier and as you looked around the hall, you could see a good amount of eyes on you with amused smiles just below them.

"hey," eddie's voice called to you, bringing your focus back to him, "don't worry about them." he saw your eyes falter back to them and turned to see who exactly you were looking at. "stephen still says 'pacific' instead of 'specific'. jennifer threw up all over steve harrington in front of everyone at a party a couple weeks ago. cynthia had the same thing happen to her last year and it was way worse than what you've got. it looked like a murder scene and yours is like the size of a quarter maybe. they have absolutely no room to be laughing at you at all. they're just upset that this is as high as they're going to get. after high school, nothing will be better than this to them which is sad, but it's their funeral."

you appreciated his words and they definitely made you feel a little better about things. you had never really paid attention to eddie. sure, you had noticed his confidence and pride, but you never saw how kind he was nor how thoughtful he could be either.

"thank you, eddie. i'll get your jacket back to you tomorrow, i promise."

he returned the smile you sent him but noticed you lean to walk the way opposite of your locker towards the exit. "you leaving?"

"yeah?" you responded in a questioning tone, wondering what else he wanted to discuss.

eddie knew where you lived—it was a few houses down from gareth's—and he knew that it was a good walk away on a normal day. he didn't feel right letting you walk there as you were now. "let me drive you home."

"eddie, you don't have to. you've already done plenty for me."

"i want to," he mentioned, waiting to get your okay which came in the form of a nod. "you need anything else from here?"

"other than the bathroom, nope." you could get medicine at home.

"alright then," he started with a grin growing on his lips that brought an unfamiliar warmth to your chest, "i'll wait out here for you and then we'll go."

you nodded to him once more. "thanks eddie."

"no problem, sweetheart."

HALO LANEE FRANCIS … born in paris france, is the eldest daughter of her parents Lucille and Adrien Francis, her only sibling being her much younger sister, Annie. currently, she resides in los angeles, california, around the block from her childhood bestfriends

THE STURNIOLOS … born and raised in boston, massachusetts, met halo on the first day of seventh grade after her moving to america. Nick was the first to introduce himself to her, almost immediately making jokes about baguettes. she met Matt the same day, confusing him for his identical brother she had already met, failing his attempt at flirting with her. she met Chris earlier on in the week while hanging out with nick at their house. oh my there’s three of them.. she thought. but what she didn’t think was that these three people would eventually become some of the most important people in her life.

YOUTUBE … has been a huge part of halo’s life since she started her channel at fifteen. she started off posting silly little school vlogs or day in the life’s, which blew up her channel almost immediately, addicting people with her natural humor and relatability. she had over one million subscribers in less than a year, leading her fame to grow even more, eventually becoming the youngest person on the cover of vouge. she is now known for long, comforting, funny vlogs on her everyday life. she posts twice a week, going back and forth from her main channel and her famous podcast, girl at home.

MATT & HALO … were best friends. they knew everything about eachother. of course they had a crush on eachother. in eighth grade, halo decided to tell nick about her huge crush on his brother. he was not surprised. it seemed as though everyone knew except them, she still made him swear not to tell anyone. in the same week, matt also informed nick on his huge crush on halo, and nick convinced matt to tell her, obviously without telling him that halo felt the same. matt had spent weeks planning out how he was gonna tell her, if he was going to ask to be her boyfriend, and every possible scenario that could follow. halo was oblivious. eventually, all of his plans crumbled down to a spur of the moment kiss, followed by a confession. and ever since then, matt and halo have been joined at the hip. friends to lovers, middle school sweethearts, and most of all best friends. as of twenty twenty three, their love has lasted an ongoing of 6 years.

FUTURE FAME : this dr is set in march of 2023, and maybe i have gotten a little out of hand with scripting things for the future.. but anyway. for the barbie movie, i scripted that i made the song ‘what was i made for’. ive been known in my dr for loving singing and doing covers of other songs, sometimes i would post an original song on my tiktok but never release it. i did choir and theater all throughout middle school and highschool so singing has always been apart of my life, but i never did anything about it.

until greta gerwig, the director of barbie, approached me about doing a song for barbie. i, of course, said yes and then made and released my first song, ‘what was i made for’. during this time, and since 2021, i had been filming for wicked, which is how greta found me (through the director of wicked). from doing theater throughout school, some would classify me as a ‘theater kid’.. so ‘Wicked’ has been my favorite musical my whole life and i’ve always, even though i didn’t have many intentions of acting, dreamt of playing the role of glinda.

when the auditions came in 2021, i did everything i could to prepare my voice. i ended up getting the role for the 2025 movie, Wicked, as Glinda. i was ecstatic. over the time of filming, i became really close with my co-star, cynthia erivo. since we had an age gap, she was like a second mother to me.

but fast forward to may of 2024, slowly wrapping up wicked. i had unexpectedly released the hit single, ‘espresso’. my song immediately topped the charts and my fame in singing only grew. about a month later, i had release my third single, feather, also topping charts. i knew that i wanted to keep my priorities on youtube so i decided that instead of releasing albums and being in many movies, i would release a handful of songs throughout a year and maybe be in one movie. i was only planning on releasing the two singles and a christmas song at the end of the year, but the netflix show, bridgerton, approached me for a song in their show.

(for background) i scripted that in the book, two main characters had a famously very very romantic ball room scene, just them, dancing together in the big empty room, to a slow passionate song. the directors of bridgerton wanted to make this scene into the show just as good as it was written, so they came to me to write them a good slow and romantic song. in september, i wrote and released the song ‘wildest dreams’. it quickly became a hit for the vulnerable yet yearning like lyrics.

quick skip to november, wicked comes out and immediately breaks records. my fame grows exponentially. i follow out with my original plan of releasing the christmas song, ‘buy me presents’ in late november. but, a christmas song i wrote when i was like 12 got leaked and went widespread, ‘is it new years yet?’. so, mostly due to peer pressure LOL, i release the song early december.
