Eternal Hunter | Vampyr verse

It took me a long time to get this done but finally, under the cut are the profiles for the four ladies set within the Vampyr universe.

Rook

Name: Erika Fenice Innocenti

Nickname: Rook, Crimson Raven, The Fallen Angel

Age: 24 (has been for about 20 years)

Gender: Female

Sexual Orientation: Asexual

Species: Ekon

Current Residence: Technically lives in a rented building along with the others, though she only really goes there to wait the day out.

Former Residence: After getting kicked out and turned, she has been traveling and living in many places. Despite being cursed to wander the night as a leech, she’s glad to have the chance to see the world.

Nationality: Italian

Mother: Deceased

Father: Probably still alive, not that it matters since he disowned her

Siblings: She has two older siblings, but she hasn’t seen them in a long time

Hair: brown, long

Distinguishing features: She has a tattoo on her right arm of a phoenix and a wyvern facing each other with their lower bodies intertwined. She has a scar on her left jaw, several others on her back and her thigh. It isn’t clear if they were acquired before or after she got the tattoo. Another scar can be noticed on her right knee from a crossbow dart. Being all from injuries from when she was still human, Rook has to deal with the knowledge that she’s going to be disfigured forever.

Weapons: Weapons are hardly necessary when you’re a being designed to hunt helpless humans. Still, she’s a pretty decent fencer and will sometimes carry a sword just in case someone decides to bother her.

Hobbies and Interests: Rook has always been a bit of a tinkerer. She would always try to take things apart to understand how they worked, sometimes getting in trouble for it. Somewhere down the line this prompted her to learn to work with explosives, a skill that she luckily doesn’t need to use too often.

She enjoys reading and studying whatever topic might catch her interest. Books are one thing she won’t run out of any time soon.

Unless the others manage to drag her in some activity, Rook spends most of her time outside. It makes her feel like she’s still a part of the world to some extent.

Occupation: Rook acts as sort of a vigilante to keep in line any criminals, bullies and scammers causing trouble in the neighborhood. She won’t hesitate to throw hands with anyone, especially if it might result in a meal to keep herself fit.

As far as hunters are concerned, she understands they’re trying to protect people, but she won’t hesitate to get rid of anyone deliberately hurting innocents, or setting themselves above the rules in their quest to kill her kind.

Personality: Rook learned from a very young age that it was just best to keep to herself. Her interests and her beliefs weren’t well seen and her father never missed the chance to remind her just how undesirable she would be if she kept behaving like that. Her stubbornness of course caused her to get punished plenty of times, but she remained true to herself up to the night she was turned. It was then that the bitterness set in and she developed a strong resentment towards her maker, who forced her in that situation, and her father, for basically pushing her in their arms that fateful night.

After meeting the others, Rook has been trying to make the rest of eternity a bit less miserable for herself. She still resents having to feed on people, but has been coping with the help of her friends and by putting her abilities at the service of whoever might need a hand.

Basic Backstory: Rook was born in a somewhat wealthy family. With her father almost always abroad to tend to his business, she spent most of her time with her siblings and her mother, who always encouraged her to be curious and put her sharp mind to good use to learn about the world.

This wasn’t always well seen, as Rook should have been more concerned in learning to become a good wife and mother in the future. Her mother didn’t see why Rook couldn’t do both and continued to support her daughter until she was murdered just a few months before Rook’s 10th birthday.

Now a widower and with a daughter to raise, Rick was forced to reconsider how he conducted his affairs to raise Rook, the first of many things that he would blame her for in the upcoming years. He showed no interest in Rook’s intelligence and interests and only allowed her to get a proper education just because he wished for his inheritance to not be wasted by whatever fool he would later force her to marry, as he indeed believed only an idiot would accept to marry her.

Eventually, he managed to strike a good deal with another businessman (much to the benefit of the family business), but the deal was ultimately called off after Rook encouraged her future husband to run off with his best man.

Her father was furious and after hours of hell, he locked Rook out of the house yelling something about her being dead to him.

And he was sort of right, as that night she became an Ekon.

Rook only remembers waking up outside of town feeling incredibly thirsty and with an unfamiliar voice echoing through her mind. Scared and confused, she started heading back, hoping her sister would be willing to take her in for the night, but ended up being ambushed by a group of thugs hired to kill her by the man who should have become her father-in-law.

Those men didn’t know what they were in for. But it was only at sunrise, with the first rays streaming upon her back and causing her immense pain that Rook realised what had happened to her.

Horrified of what she had become, Rook ran away and hasn’t stopped since.

Along the way, she met Erica, Willow and Fae and now lives with them while waiting for the day she will finally discover the identity of their maker and make them pay for everything they have done to the four of them.

Willow

Name: Willow

Nickname/alias: Lady Death

Age: 24 (has been for 4 years)

Gender: Female

Sexual Orientation: Asexual

Species: Ekon

Current Residence: Willow lives with the others in a rented building. She administers the household and gladly keeps the landlord in check.

Hair: dyed pink, shaved on the left side of her head

Distinguishing features: Willow doesn’t seem to care about blending in at first glance. Her mere presence seems to make the room turn instantly cold and her hair stand out in the darkest of night. Still, neither of these are what you should be concerned about. She’s an Ekon, she has an edge over every living being and she’s ready to use it to her advantage.

She never seems to take her gloves off and no one knows why, with the exception of maybe the other ladies, who however won’t tell.

Weapons/equipment: If you see her with a sword, run. She owns a katana, acquired in one of her many journeys. While it’s intended as a collectible more than anything, she prefers slashing over bludgeoning damage, as it provides more blood to use against her victim.

She can shoot with a gun, if the situation calls for it, and has some knowledge on how to prepare some natural remedies.

Even without mesmerism, it is very hard to say no to her requests.

Hobbies and Interests: She has taken an interest in medicine. Her skills will however go wasted until the world will keep insisting that women can only be nurses (and still think ill of those who take up that career). She’s a gifted pianist, though her audience mainly consists of her three friends and whatever stray cat Erica might take home.

Occupation: Unofficial administrator of the household’s finances.

Personality: Willow seems to have embraced the solitude that comes with being an undead just fine. She doesn’t care to indulge in chit-chat unless that could serve some purpose to her, effectively making her a mystery to everyone. The only ones who get anything out of her most of the time are the other ladies and they too know little of the years preceding Willow’s meeting with their maker.

She does seem to follow some sort of personal code, though. She’s willing to get her hands dirty if something threatens her friends and doesn’t prey on the weak.

Her sweet tooth seemingly hasn’t abandoned her and she will sometimes make herself sick on purpose because of it.

Basic Backstory: Willow is the youngest of the group, having been turned only a handful of years ago. Two facts are however clear: her maker was the same as the others and she’s somehow already just as powerful as them.

That should raise some concerns but really, can you fault her for trying to survive? Her determination was key to her survival and acquisition of many skills, though the circumstances of how she acquired them are mostly a mystery. Still, embracing her victims doesn’t seem to be something she ever showed interest in.

By her own admission, she used to be a professional pianist at some point. She was destined to fame and to a far brighter life than anything she got instead. Willow herself was much different back then, but she too was lost the night she was turned.

These days she doesn’t have much of a chance, or the interest, to play in public anymore. It’s a type of attention she can’t afford to receive anymore, though her friends don’t mind much when she suddenly starts playing in the middle of the day.

Erica

Name: Erica

Nickname: The Forest Spirit

Age: 24 (has been for about 20 years)

Gender: Female

Sexual Orientation: Asexual

Species: Ekon

Current Residence: N/A

Former Residence: Erica used to live in a cottage by the woods with her parents. She left after realizing what she had become to keep them safe, though it didn’t help in the end as they were mistakenly murdered by a local group of hunters.

Nationality: N/A

Mother: Deceased.

Father: Deceased.

Siblings: None.

Other Family: N/A

Hair: short, spiky

Distinguishing features: Erica is leaner and more flexible than the others. She also loves smiling. No, those aren’t fangs, it’s just a trick of the light.

Weapons/equipment: She doesn’t actively look for trouble like Rook and Willow, so no weapons are necessary. Still, she’s likely to have some food with her in case she might bump in someone who needs it.

Occupation: None, though she tries to keep the neighborhood kids out of trouble

Personality: Erica can’t wrap her head around the reason why all ekons have to be eternally miserable. Sure, they have to feed off humans, but it isn’t too different from killing and eating a deer if you really think about it. It’s just how things work.

While sometimes it can be hard to keep those instincts in check, she still wishes to cherish life in all its forms, even its inevitable ending. Immortality means that you will outlast many people, but hiding in a hole for years won’t make them last longer either.

She does miss being out in the sun, though.

Basic Backstory: Erica’s origins are far humbler than her friends’, but not at all less interesting. Her father was an artist, her mother was his muse and they lived happily in a little house by the woods. That and the nearby town were all Erica knew, but her parents often told her stories of their many travels. Whether those stories were made up or simply exaggerated is unknown, though it fed a spirit for adventure in their daughter, who wished to one day travel far and beyond herself.

This came in handy when, freshly turned, she had to run off to keep her family safe from those horrible new instincts she felt. She would miss home, but this was for the best.

Despite running off before anyone could be really hurt, voices regarding a monster hiding in the woods caused the townspeople to panic and in the rush, both Erica’s house and her parents went up in flames.

At that point, Erica was already well on her way south as the latest addiction to a circus troupe. She became an acrobat and ‘the brightest light under the big top’, according to some. That adventure kept her busy for a bit more than a couple of years, then she moved on, wishing to explore at her own pace.

At one point, she managed to return up north enough to bump into someone from her old town, who couldn’t keep themselves from telling her of the tragic fate of her parents.

Rumors say that said person couldn’t handle the guilt anymore and took their life. According to Rook, they simply slipped into the river.

From that point on, the two travelled together.

Fae

Name: Fae

Nickname: N/A

Age: 24 (has been for 100 years)

Gender: Genderfluid. Pronouns are she/they, though Fae often doesn’t mind how she’s addressed.

Sexual Orientation: Pansexual

Species: Ekon

Current Residence: Fae lives with the other ladies. How this has remained unknown to the public is perhaps the biggest mystery.

Former Residence: Many as she pursued her acting career.

Nationality: N/A

Mother: Deceased.

Father: Deceased.

Siblings: None.

Other Family: None.

Height: 5’5

Hair: dark brown, long, though style may vary depending on the day

Distinguishing features: Cryptic is a word many would use to describe Fae. Her beauty is of a kind no woman, or man, can achieve. Many have tried to pry her secret from her, but all Fae had to say on the matter was that she was just being herself.

Hobbies and Interests: Acting, dancing and singing have always been her passion. When off the stage, she spends her time socializing with the troupe, the press, some particularly eager fans, anyone who can keep her social battery charged, or provide some blood. It’s surprising the sort of thing people are willing to try a few hours into a party.

Occupation: Actress

Personality: Fae is an incredibly outgoing person, possibly too much for a lady of her social level. Truthfully, that bit of blue blood that ran through her veins in life holds no meaning to her now that her family has been wiped from the history books. She was a noble a century ago, now she may only address that fact around fellow Ekons just to keep them off her back about how she conducts her undeath. She won’t live in isolation and she will be out every night in the bright lights of the stage whether they like it or not. Humans will always have a need for entertainment and she will happily provide for that need as long as it keeps her entertained (and fed).

Basic Backstory: Out of the four, Fae is the most ancient and able to deal with her immortality.

Born more than a century ago, Fae was once part of a prestigious family and had all she could ever ask for; a title, a house, lovely clothes, servants, the whole package. Still, none of that made her truly happy. Fae was the type who wanted to have a purpose in life rather than be a pretty ornament for whoever she got married to. She wanted to do more. She wanted to sing, dance and entertain.

That was her call and a great way out of a house who would have never approved of the person she truly loved, her soon-to-be maker.

Her parents had their reasons to disapprove of this, she was already married. But her maker provided for that as well, getting rid of the guy and their respective families before turning her.

Betrayed and suddenly alone, Fae had to figure herself out again, a long journey that culminated in a long, successful acting career. Several, actually, as she creates a new identity every forty or so years.

The current living situation for her and the others was actually her idea. Ekons have to help each other, despite what some might say, so that one day they might have the chance to make their maker pay for using her feelings against her like that.

Lucien

Name: Lucien Royce

Nickname: N/A

Age: 29 (has been for about 30 years)

Gender: Cis Male

Sexual Orientation: Pansexual

Species: Nemrod

Current Residence: He has taken up residence in a small flat in the West End.

Former Residence: His father’s mansion in the countryside near Nantes, France.

Nationality: French

Mother: Deceased. Her husband tried to turn her after giving birth to Lucien, but didn’t survive the transformation.

Father: Deceased.

Siblings: None.

Other Family: N/A

Height: 6’1

Weight: 148 lbs

Body Type: Lucien appears to be naturally very scrawny. He tends to hunch over and doesn’t appear to enjoy physical activity despite not feeling the strain of it anymore. He can only be thankful he had been building up some muscle when he was turned, or he’d have been cursed to look like a twig for the rest of eternity.

Hair: Brown long hair, kinda messy. He’s doing his best to manage his looks, this is his first time around civilization in a decade, new trends are still a little obscure to him.

Eyes: Grey

Distinguishing features: A few scars on his back. He tends to fidget a lot and play around with a coin while he’s deep in thought or when he’s nervous. His steps don’t make noise and he enjoys sneaking up on people.

Weapons/equipment: Lucien is always carrying a dagger or at least scissors. Anything that isn’t nailed to the ground can be weaponized if you swing hard enough, but it’s always good to keep something on his person to stab any problems that may turn up.

When things get tough, he may resort to something more vicious like a scythe. Don’t ask where he got it.

He also owns a revolver to deal with pesky ‘customers’ (for instance, skals or persistent humans who don’t know when to give up.

Hobbies and Interests: He has a keen interest in botany, despite having little time or the means to start a garden in his one room apartment. He also enjoys reading and wishes to write his own book at some point. He’ll get around to it, he has the time now.

Languages: French and English.

Occupation: He has set up shop as a tailor in the West End. It pays well enough and it allows him to keep in touch with the latest gossip without bringing attention to himself by going around asking too many questions.

Personality: Lucien sometimes struggles telling social cues but does his best to be polite despite his eyes clearly telling you he wants to stab you in the neck.

He tends to be very calm and collected as he accidentally walks in bad situations anyway. He’s however very emotional and the facade cracks very quickly when the right buttons are pressed. He can’t stand seeing children get mistreated by lazy adults and he might just abuse his powers if someone were to praise his father in his presence.

He can be extremely ruthless at times and can act without remorse if he believes he’s dealing with a bad person. He’s getting better at judging character, so he isn’t too afraid to take it out on an innocent again. Still, he has noticed that not using his powers has a positive effect on his mood.

Ask him about flowers, bugs and animals, he’d be happy to tell you all about it.

He’s perfectly fine with his nemrod nature, finding it convenient and even an ironic way to get back at his own father for attempting to make him into his eternal servant.

He believes the world is better off without vampires and he’s a dedicated hunter, but he’s willing to make exceptions.

He looks at current events with a certain detachment, being more than comfortable with his newfound immortality. Still, his empathy was preserved and he does his best to help those in need.

Basic Backstory: Lucien had a sheltered childhood. He grew up in his father’s mansion and was raised by the servants, who ensured he got to do all those rich kid activities in time. He learned how to ride horses, play various musical instruments, and even learned baking while he was left unsupervised.

He tried being everything father (and mother) would have wanted, but eventually had to come to terms with the fact that what was requested of him was simply unacceptable.

Lucien had never really looked into the source of the family fortune. He understood his father had to work some kind of trading deals that granted him large sums of money with which they could afford their way of living. He also wished to join in when he grew up to carry on the family business and, most importantly, finally be at his father’s side.

That turned out to be a really bad idea. On the night of his 18th birthday, Lucien discovered the truth. His father was an Ekon and their fortune came from him promising immortality in exchange for money. It was clearly a valid business model, though not as much of a good deal for any customers. He got money and a willing victim who wouldn’t be able to run for it until it was too late.

Much like in the case of his late mother. Though Lucien could tell she had not agreed to being turned. Now it was his turn. Lucien found the concept abhorrent, but he had little choice on the matter. He was overpowered easily and then, he struck back.

Much to his father’s surprise, Lucien woke up a nemrod.

After sensibly improving the world by ridding it of his father’s presence for good, Lucien vowed to kill every vampire he would meet and eventually set his sights on a particular group of Ekons.

Now in London, he continues his hunting activities while working as a tailor and enjoying the drama that seems to engulf the entire city.
