Sakusa watched her perform on that stage, surrounded by lighting that hit her in an almost angelic way; illuminating her features. She danced around like she's lived in the spotlight her whole life. And he knows she didn’t. He recognised her upon the first glance. One brief look, and he knew exactly who she was. It would take a million lifetimes before he could forget her face. He tried to deny it at first, but its impossible. Standing on that stage, singing her heart out to a punk rock melody, was the girl he used to call his best friend. The girl he ruined everything with.

He hadn’t even noticed his jaw clenching until his teeth began to hurt. His head was spinning; overwhelmed with emotions that he couldn’t even name. Relief? Sadness? Regret? Grief? Honestly, his mind was a disgusting mixture of all of the above. If he'd known that she would be here, that he’d see her again for the first time in almost 4 years, a part of him would’ve wanted to stay at home and to never leave again. But, strangely, the other part of him would’ve left at the mere mention of her name alone. It's pathetic, he thinks. He constantly prayed for moments like these, where he’d see her again: A second chance to make everything better again. Now that he has it, he doesn’t know how to process it.

It’s all so unsightly. So messy. Everything is sticky: the floors, the tables, even his hair is clinging to his forehead with sweat. It’s evident that no one in the crowd has seen a shower in their lives; he can practically see the clouds of b.o that float around him. It’s everything he hates in one place; his head hurts and a part of him wants to go home, a part of him isn’t ready to see her again. But his feet are taking him forwards, his feet are forcing him through the crowd to get as close as possible. Closer to her.

Sakusa selfishly hopes that somewhere out there, there's a universe where he didn't say those words to her; a universe where he didnt ruin everything. a universe where they were still best friends. And if that exists,

maybe there's a universe where they could’ve been more than that.

His thoughts were rudely cut short when the music stopped. Then, among the drunken banter and the crowd chattering amongst themselves, he heard her voice.

“Thank you so much to everyone who showed up tonight! We hope you enjoyed the show because we certainly fucking did. You guys were without a doubt one of the best crowds we’ve ever had!” She spoke earnestly, yet exhaustedly, but overall she sounded just so happy to be up there. He admired that; how humble she was. Her voice was sweet like honey, just like it was the last time he heard it. Despite the shouting, the shakiness of her words as she struggled to hold her tears back, her voice was always so sweet to him. As he cleared his head from the memories of her, she left too. The band had finished their performance, and most of them had exited the stage. Except for their lanky drummer, and their bassist, who were helping the staff carry their equipment. As he searched the area for any trace of her, he finally noticed the obnoxious buzzing of his phone. Shit.

David Berman is dead & I'm fucking sad. sad about Toni Morrison too of course but I already said my piece on that & anyway she was 88. David was only 52. not much older than my partner. & god damn it when you've lived a life like mine the words of white sadboy poet/singer-songwriters mean just as much to you as (if not in some ways more than) the greatest writers of our time, of any race or gender. cuz I grew up on that indie-punk shit. cuz I'm a sad whiteboy sometimes, too. cuz Toni Morrison was a great novelist but Silver Jews lyrics had more of an influence on my own writing.

like how I cry harder when my punk/music icons die than I can imagine crying for almost any established writer. Lorna Doom died the day before Mary Oliver died, then the next day Debi Martini died & I was more brokenhearted about Lorna & Debi than Mary. cuz Mary was 83 & Lorna & Debi were younger. cuz it felt like I should tattoo Punk Is Dead on my forehead & slamdance on its grave. cuz Mary Oliver's poetry meant a lot to me but it didn't explode my fucking world like the Germs LP did. I was devastated in December, when Pete Shelley died, & I'm still not over it if I think about it too much. I was in my car, on the way to pick my oldest kid up from school, & the DJ's voice on my favorite radio station broke thru my afternoon motion-induced reverie. breaking news; that's never good. Pete Shelley has died from a heart attack, he said, & played "Ever Fallen in Love." & I cried, of course I did. it hurt to lose one of punk's great songwriters, one of punk's great frontmen, who took his stage name from a Romantic poet & wrote songs that showed me it was okay to be myself, that there were other people out there like me. showed me it was okay to be a hypersexual bisexual, an "Orgasm Addict;" that I could be a punk & also be a hopelessly romantic lovesick dork. & it hurt to lose him because his kindness meant a lot to me when I was young—yeah, I knew Pete; we weren't close friends but we'd met, & he was sweet & funny & irreverent. I cried for him & I cried for the kid I was when I met him, the kid I was back when I first heard the Buzzcocks—back when I was a teenage misfit always falling in love with people I shouldn't have.

but the day after Pete died was Tom Waits' birthday, & I used it as an excuse to partake in some nostalgic pleasures; to be my old self if only for an hour or two. or as much my old self as I can still be. I went to the Douglas Avenue Diner for lunch, with my youngest kiddo as my date. I thought of xxx. I always miss her most in November & December. & diners make me think of her, & Tom Waits makes me think of her, & the death of old punks makes me think of her. everything reminds me of her. I thought of Hearts Don't Break, the novella I wrote in '02/'03, which was heavily based on our friendship; thought of my description of 'the coffee-stained comfort of our favorite diner.' different diner, different city, different year, but it was comforting to be there. they were playing Xmas carols & the patrons were an equal mix of punks & old folks. Greek-American-owned diners like Douglas Ave. make me the most nostalgic, as those are the diners I grew up going to—there are so many of them in the Midwest. I thought of the Alps East in Chicago, the diner I haunted as a broke college student; how I'd go there & order a cup of soup & a bottomless coffee & sit for hours eavesdropping on other patrons, getting ideas for short stories. I thought of the diners in Kenosha, going to them with xxxxx back when we were dating, sharing an order of spanikopita & a side of rice pilaf. after I left the diner that day, I mailed out a bunch of zines & chapbooks & that, too, was the same as it ever was.

& now another hero is dead & I'm finishing the first full issue of my zine in over two years, thinking about who I was back when I listened to the Silver Jews a lot. that terrible summer of '03, summer of nervous breakdowns & strep throat, too much rum & whiskey, & my lovers all dropping me. summer of pirates & pills; photocopied midnights. now it's the summer of '19 & I'm here writing & thinking of everything that's gone. favorite places, people, zines, scenes. I miss everything all the time. same as it ever was.

with the stupid shit alice cooper said today (which is no surprise cuz hes been a republican for a while as are most of these clowns) i just have to complain about glam again like the second wave of glam in the late 70’s-80’s that became so huge in part by its extreme, volatile hatred of the disco movement and people who never really listened to glam rock/metal or maybe only casually sometimes act surprised when its like. these guys are some of the most conservative, predatory, racist, misogynistic, homophobic men ever and the entire basis of the genre is a reactionary one! these men would never actually support gender non conformity because seeing gay black artists do it in disco or funk or early punk/ska or women or literally anyone on the margins of society doing it made them want to throw up and cry because they’re scared lmfao. they wanted the benefits of drag and gender non comformity without actually ever giving up anything and overblowing their own oppression for wearing makeup and tight clothes because tipper gore and christians would get on their ass and saying they were harassed and called gay when their own reactions to that treatment were of disgust and never solidarity. and now 99% of these artists reminisce on shocking people while playing county fairs and spending most of their time golfing with republican pundits who still think they’re badass hoping they wont notice the black sweat from the box dye theyre still using on their fried hair at 60 years old because going to a salon would be gay.

Boy oh boy where do i even start. Honestly it's always hard to pin down my favorite characters across all the fandoms cuz I've consumed a LOT of media,but I'll try to name the current ones (warning, i am such a basic bitch this list is gonna predictable afffff. Probably.)

10. Ai Hoshino (Oshi no ko)

Ngl if you ignore most of the weird shit that happens in oshi no ko, it is such a goddamn captivating story, Ai in particular. Idk i guess i really like the idea of this "ultimate idol" who is a pathological liar (due to honestly unfortunately circumstances) having to maintain this picture perfect image, to the point where people don't even perceived her as a real person. And it's really tragic considering all she ever wanted to is to actually say "i love you" and mean it for once.

9. Killua Zoldyck (Hunter×Hunter)

Was he start of my obsession with white haired characters? Nah, but he definitely contributed. Honestly, sassy brat with a soft spot that can absolutely fuck shit up? Yeah there was no way i wouldn't have been obsessed with Killua the second he got introduced. Honestly i like Gon almost as much, but i prefer moodie baddies to sunshine characters. I would genuinely dedicate another 10 hours minimum to talk about him, but i don't think ppl will care enough to read so yeeah

8. Sunset Shimmer (MLP)

I wasn't really in the mlp fandom, so i have no idea how Sunset was perceived initially (i would assume negatively, but then again idk) so i am going off of the fact my lil sisters used to haTE on her in the first movie, but MAAAAAN I LIKED HER BITCHY SELF EVEN BACK THEN. The former star pupil of princess Celestia???? That left to another world cuz of her own hubris???? AND SHE'S PUNK ROCK???? I mean she got redeemed and joined the main six and all, but overall, probably my favorite mlp character (still mourn the bitchy attitude tho, in that regard i prefer Starlight but i digress)

7. Sans Undertale

I mean. Yeah. I already said I'm basic as fuck but like. At least i don't wanna fuck him. Anywaaay, i guess it's the air of mystery to this seemingly chill guy, who just hangs around and tells bad jokes and somehow aware of the timelines more than the rest, probably related to Gaster in some way, and maybe he's not even a monster cuz monsters don't bleed and he fucking does, what does this all mean TOBY FOX I NEED ANSWERS- and he has arguably the best fight in the entire game, so yknow. Cool guy

6. Gwen Stacy (Spiderverse)

I liked her in "In to the Spiderverse" but i absolutely loved her in ATSV. Her struggles and mistakes felt so real and I'm so glad they decide to focus on her this film (the opening sequence dead ass my favorite scene in the whole movie) and explore her backstory with Peter's death and her father, it's just adding the depth to a character that was already great just UGH chef's kiss

5. Tooru Oikawa (Haikyuu)

God he has such a slappable face, i love him. I knew from the second when the fangirls screamed, i would either hate him or love him. Every scene he was in, he served (pun intended), he slayed and made me cry. I know decent junk of the fandom are avid Oikawa haters but they can honestly suck my dic-

Goofy ass detective with a dark past, homosexual rival and who's also a suicidal maniac? Yeah this was tailor made for me. Can you tell i have a type because i definitely do. I just really like mfkas with slappable faces. I am a sucker for redeemed bad guys, who are now try to be good cuz 💫reasons💫. AND i am also weak for mentor apprentice trops (Atsushi/Dazai shippers back off, i bite and definitely have rabies)

3. Satoru Gojo (Jujutsu Kaisen)

Speaking of my obsession with white haired guys. Yeah, I'm not sure what can i even say that haven't been said abt this guy and reasons to love him (fuck u gege) honestly will i ever stop loving side characters who are often silly mentor figures, with lots of baggage, a gay rival and too much angst? I can only say one thing.

2. Maomao (The Apothecary diaries)

Istg all u people who never watched Apothecary diaries I BEG U TO WATCH IT PLSSSS IT'S SO GOOD. Even if you don't watch anime, i promise you this show is absolutely worth the time. Maomao is what happens when you write a good no, GREAT female character without the whole anime bs. Like???? She has her own strength and weaknesses and she doesn't need to be physically strong (full offense, marvel) or be "not like the other girls" to be great.

1. Kaveh (Genshin impact)

So uhhhh, you can really blame Will Stetson for this one. I genuinely couldn't have cared less about genshin or this random blond if it wasn't for "Writing on the Wall". It started with a banger ass song, and ended with arguably my favorite character in all of media ever. I think one of my favorite things abt Kaveh, is that compared to some of the other characters in genshin, he's really just a guy. Like bro missed the entire archon quest, mfka was just minding his own business. He is tortured architect and honestly bro has taken so many Ls in life it's kinda crazy. And well the fact that he has "a roommate" just adds more to him. Gay rival and all

Aaaaand that's 10 characters. Honestly i wouldn't call it my top 10 favorite of all time. I probably forgot some of the characters that i used to be obsessed with at some point. I just picked the ones that came first to mind :3

Rpg Anon: At this point, Natsumi will at least be 3-4 years older than Genji. I see he likes older woman. And humorously, you'd think I'd imagine Genji and Natsumi being together as more or less Hinazumi x Fuyupeko, but I kinda see it more as Hinazumi x Ibuki x Fuyupeko. Cuz you know, Natsumi totally gonna be a punk rock gal now. Akihiro is totally the one who gets scolded a lot by Mahiru, isn't he? Also, if he's a playboy, tell me about his escapades of charming gals and possibly even guys. If the typical anime trend is gonna follow, he's gonna end up with the tough gal. If Sayu has Mahiru's short temper, I can see her being a bit of salty rage quitter at times. Compared to Chiaki and Hajime, she's probably not on their level yet so I assume she gets really pissed when they kick her ass in games.

//First of all, WHAT!? 3-4 years is NOT that big of an age gap! That's about how far my parents are in age.

//But yeah, with Genji and Natsumi, their relationship is very interesting. On the one hand, Natsumi is absolutely the one who wears the pants between them. Like you said, she's very much a punk-rock party gal, wheras Genji is more like his mother in that they're both usually very quiet. I imagine that their relationship would very much end up being like Mahiru's and Ibuki's actually, in that they're very close friends who's personalities counteract, yet attract each other.

//What I also think would be pretty hilarious is, because Natsumi grows up to have Fuyuhiko's stubbornness and obviously his naivety as a kid, but her own brand of stubbornness is the same sort of quality that attracted Hajime to Mahiru in the first place; like being endeared to her strength and feistiness.

//And on the other end of that spectrum, even though Genji is a quiet, introspective, and intelligent youngster who lacks a strong sense of will and fighting spirit, his outbursts when he reaches the limit of his patience are similar to Mahiru's own short temper. Music hcs for the paladins cuz I’m bored + the inevitable Klance Music war. (I know next to nothing about music, so most of it’ll be the various stages of my music taste + some of the stuff my family likes.)

Keith likes pretty much anything 90s alternative. Grunge, hardcore, alt rock, all of it. Nirvana, Chili Peppers, Green Day. His favorite song is Brain Stew by Green Day. Lance makes fun of him for being mainstream, and thus begins The Music War. All paladins are drafted. Fierce battles are fought in the castle hallways. The casualties number in the dozens of speakers, drones, rigged headphones/earbuds, and one giant Altean super-stereo. It only end when Shiro tries to get them into MCR (he had an emo phase) and they unite against the common enemy. Keith will die before he says anything, but he falls in love with Danger Days.

Lance is very passionate about his 90s skate punk. The Offspring, Authority Zero, Rancid, all that stuff. His favorite song is Time Bomb by Rancid. He has an extensive collection of vintage cassettes back on earth, knows all the lyrics, and absolutely loathes every band Keith has ever expressed a passing interest in. He kicks off one of the most furious battles when he insists that Green Day sold out (he’ll never admit that he used to rock out to American Idiot), and later on, Shiro nearly restarts The War when he says that The Offspring are almost as mainstream as Green Day.

Pidge is absolutely into, like, 2010s pop punk. All Time Low, Good Charlotte, The Cab, probably some Green Day even though they’re punk rock. They don’t have a favorite song, but I can totally see Pidge rocking out to Revolution Radio. They’re loud and obnoxious about it, blasting their music at 2 in the morning when they can’t sleep (the castle’s walls are soundproofed, but after… Matt totally begs for rooms on the other side of the Atlas.) When the war comes, they serve as Lance’s second, though he makes them swear to never play any Green Day. They sneak a Foxboro Hottubs song into one of his playlists, and it almost results in civil war.

Rounding off Lance’s side in The War is Shiro. (which is why Lance was so betrayed by his Offspring comment + the MCR schism) No one believes it at first, but he’s actually a diehard punk. Subgenres be damned, if it’s got the word ‘punk’ slapped somewhere on it, Shiro loves it. Death, Sex Pistols, Anti-Flag, everything. His favorite song is definitely Brandenburg Gate by Anti-Flag (he used to sing it to Adam all the damn time-“Hey, honey, I want to share something with you.” “Aw, go ahead.” “I LOST MY BABY TO A FOREIGN WAR/SHE HE WAS CUT DOWN IN THE GUNFIRE OF THE WESTERN WORLD-” “I’m not fucking dead you asshole!”)

When Allura learns about human music, she falls in love with 2010s indie/pop rock. American Authors, The Score, X Ambassadors, that kind of thing. Her favorite song is Paint the Town Green by The Score. Once drafted into The Music War, she fights for Team Mainstream/Keith. On her most daring mission (replacing the intercom speakers in Shiro’s and Lance’s rooms with ones rigged to play a constant loop of Green Day’s Welcome to Paradise) she is captured and forced to listen to actually good music, Allura (Lance’s playlist) and it is here that the Foxboro Hottubs treachery is discovered. She manages to escape during the resulting argument.

Hunk does not particularly care about music, but he is drafted nonetheless. When he (very rarely) listens to music, it’s that singer-songwriter folk rock shit you get on the radio. Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, The Strumbellas, that kind of thing. Naturally, he sides with Team Mainstream, causing a rift within the Garrison Trio. Lance insists that Hunk is dead to him, Shiro gives him his best Disappointed Dad Look™, and Pidge goes on a Hunk-food hunger strike for 2 days before they can’t stomach the food goo anymore. It is Hunk who manages to destroy the giant Altean super-stereo Team Punk/Lance hides in a closet behind their base of operations (empty castle bedroom #426). His favorite song (and only example of good taste) is Mr. Brightside by The Killers.

Coran is the only neutral party in The Music War, as he listens to Irish folk music (Shiro tries to get him into Flogging Molly, but tragically fails) and is neutral about everything else. He provides necessary relief supplies (earplugs and noise-cancelling headphones) to both sides, and calls cease-fires for missions. He single-handedly prevented The Second Music War.

Yo yo yo! It's June topster day!

This month I listened to a lot of "must listens" also Steve Albini finally died so I could check out Big Black's albums.

Unsure: Gorguts-Obscura (Avant-Guard/Death Metal): What the actual fuck is this album? The entirety of this feels like every member of the band is playing different songs. There are few songs that "I get" but I think this definitely needs some more time for me. Though I still recommend it as it is an interesting experience.

14th: Blasphemy-Fallen Angel of Doom (War Metal): No. I consider myself someone who enjoys quite a lot of black metal, but this shit is genuinely goofy.

13th: Dropdead-Selftitle 1993 (Powerviolence): It's alright, doesn't really stick out as much as other pv records I listened through.

12th: Napalm Death-Scum (Grindcore): The father of grindcore sure feels like as the father of grindcore. I didn't really think that grind evolved a lot, but after listening to this I realised that the genre itself got a little more... focused or something? Half of the songs here feel like they're made to make non punks be pissed about "Hurr durr how can people listen to 4 seconds of noise and call it music?". I'm sure it will grow on me but I feel like this record haven't aged the best.

11th: Motörhead-Ace of Spades (Hard Rock/Speed Metal): The title track is so good that they recorded it 11 more times. I probably have a bitter taste in my mouth cuz every good damned place circlejerks over this album with shit like "ooooh this is the only band that both punks and metalhead and rockers alike enjoy" and then it's just the most basic ass hard rock album on the planet. Also I know that jailbait is supposed to be a satire/parody of the pedo musicians of that era, but Lemmy was such a genius that he forgot to make it sound like a satire/parody. Just listen to the title track and maybe listen to the We Are The Road Crew and you can skip the rest.

10th: Nails-Abandon All Life (Grindcore/Powerviolence): Short and sweet like all pv records should be. Some people consider this to be Nails' best but I can't see that.

9th: Big Black-Songs About Fucking (Noise Rock): The hardest album name ever. Alone it's a great album, but knowing that it's the follow up to Atomizer makes it a bit less impressive. The first half (Happy Otter) is the part which got a proper studio recording session, it is more polished and "thought over". Arguably every song in this part fucks hard. The second half (Sad Otter) was just put together at home and feels like a rough demo. It has good songs, but they could have been way better. I highly recommend this album, but only after listening to Atomizer.

8th: Nails-You Will Never Be One Of Us (Grindcore): Oh my fucking God this album fucks so hard. The intro song with the other punk metal crossover vocalist dropping the album name goes so hard it makes me hate the police even more. I'd argue that this is Nails' best...right after Unsilent Death... but still their best.

7th: Neurosis-Souls at Zero (Atmospheric Sludge Metal): This is their 3rd highest rated album and their 1st and 2nd are unavailable in my country due to bs copyright issues. Still it's pretty good. I've only dabbled into the whole atmosludge genre, but I have to be honest I see why people rate this over regular sludge.

6th: Kate Bush-Hounds of Love (Art/Prog Pop): Even though I more of a Björk, Billie Eilish and Sade kinda guy... this is so good. Hounds of Love literally redefined for me what pop music means for me, and I wasn't even a (major) elitist to begin with! The second half with the more artsy stuff is in short beautiful. I have no words to describe how this album makes me feel.

5th: Megadeth-Rust in Peace (Thrash Metal): Dave Mustain sucks as a vocalist... but he can sure solo! Hangar 18 feels like the dude on the cover is personally guiding the listener through the cover showing off all the weird stuff, which makes the rest of the album oddly atmospheric in a conceptual way? I guess. All in all, all that matters that this album is filled to the brim with insane guitar work. This one is especially good for newer guitarists who are interested in metal.

4th: Big Black-Atomizer (Noise Rock): 10/10, I give no more words, this is a must experience to everyone who loves noisy shit.

3rd: Carcass-Hearthwork (Melodic Death Metal): I don't know how Carcass went from inventing goregrind to making this. I can barely comprehend all the massive guitar work put into this. This is probably one of the safest places to start listening to death metal (in a good way).

2nd: Bolt Thrower-...For Victory (Death Metal): Bolt Thrower can't miss. That's just a fact at this point. They stuffed so much groove into this album filled with "war sucks" energy that it can't be put into words by my illiterate ass. Just binge BT's discography already.

Although I currently don't have them, I'm going to add them anyways because I'm going to end up getting them when I have the money to go to a piercer or to get a kit. I want a shit ton of piercings. Such as snake bites(lip piercing), tongue, septum, all of the piercings finished on my ears, and bridge. I've stated once I'm a big tattoo geek, so I want a quite a bit of those. I'm definitely a big "oh let's do it myself" person, and I have tried giving myself a septum piercing. (it would've worked if it wasn't for the fact I did it too low to be able to flip it up to hide it) I love the adrenaline of fights, it doesn't matter if I win or loose, although I do prefer if I win. I literally get the most random urge to fight someone for the hell of it. Probably has something to do with impulsive thoughts and shit, but oh well. I'm a big respect person, I live by the motto "you respect me, I'll respect you". I have blackouts sometimes due to rage and anxiety, so I try to keep myself from having them. I have a bad habit of rambling and saying sorry too much. I tend to repeatedly say sorry whilst rambling as I tend to get overly excited and loud when I ramble. I'm a very talkive person if I know and trust you. If you're around me and you don't get your ear talked off or messed with, you're probably not liked or

you need to leave. It's one easy way you'll be able to tell if I get along with you or not. I kinda have a whatever/punk/alt style, a lot of time I just grab something decent and throw it on. Although you'll always see me wearing a belt and my platform shoes. I'm 5'0, so my obsession with platforms grew because of my need to be tall. And, man, about the hair, are you blessed to have the glam diva Paul by your side to give advice and constructive criticism to your hair. He will help you choose the color and will give it style from time to time if you accept. The process to dye it will be so much fun, and so chaotic; experimenting with the pigments ends up with wounds caused from the bleach and the currently used wardrobe disposed later.

A thing they love about you is that you can stand up for yourself if needed, but they rather you not to, because they know you handle yourself and the others well, maybe too well for your good. Paul tries to take care of you as much as he can so there is no need for you to possibly get hurt. It was enough trying to control Marko so he didn't get involved in some stupid street fight every night at the boardwalk to now have to worry daily about you too. Marko shares the passion for the adrenaline of this and will think it is hot as hell, but he protects you as much as Paul, maybe a bit softer than him about it tho, but if you're in the middle of a fight and it starts to get worse than expected, he dead ass will force you to back off. He'll finish the business himself, sweetheart.

hyperfocus - 2nd EP, a pretty substantial departure from their usual style, but also happens to quietly be Corpse’s favourite, and is actually y/n’s most polarising, because it has both the Grammy award winning HEARTBURN and the o brother where art thou which was written partially as a joke to capture a fond moment of them and 5SOS dicking around together in a hotel. written while on tour wit 5SOS, im writing the reader as having ADHD (because I have ADHD and i can do what i want), and the backstory is that they’d changed the medication/dosage they were taking, and as it’s their first full tour, they were under a lot of stress and were in a weird place mentally and emotionally, and hyperfocus is the result of that. i’m going through some stuff has HUGE agoraphobic vibes. 

HEARTBURN has the same vibes as Florence + The Machines’ Howl. It’s about being a demon without saying that or directly implying that unless you know demons real well. This is when the pressure for them to confirm their identity got real bad, and it was their way of working through those emotions.

working on it - is kind of a middle ground between their original stuff, and hyperfocus, like pop-punk meets horror-pop meets whatever you’d classify halsey as. the first three songs were mostly written before the fic starts, so before they’re getting back to YT, but the last three, nightmare scenario, designed to hurt (touch me), and not scared were all written after they’d started hanging out with sykkuno and corpse.

means something is also for sykkuno!! it’s about how good-strange it is to be open and honest with friends, and how they usually aren’t but they’re glad they can be open and honest with him!!

meanwhile, i don’t think about u - interlude ft. CORPSE is a phonecall between corpse & the reader right after they announce they’re going to feature on acting like that, where corpse asks if they do this sort of thing to spite him, to which the reader responds ‘do i consider you when i’m making decisions about my career? no, corpse, actually i don’t think about you at all’ which then directly contrasts the song that ends the album, which is (how it feels to be) beautiful fireworks, which is essentially ‘i know how hard it is to exist like this, to be the centre of attention, to give off light and bring people joy, even when you’re in pain. i’m here for you. i love you.’

i try my best to respond to every single one !!!!!! sometimes it just .... takes me a long time :'-) comments & feedback are fuel for me, i want to make sure they're acknowledged

6. what's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

i write a lot of angsty shit tbh, but i think the winner's gotta be leave my body (leave my bones) ... clearly wrote it when i was 13 and going through an "i love character death" phase

yknow .... even out of all the tooth-rotting fluff i've written over the years, i think the ending that makes me the happiest is four hundred bones. it's kind of a long-winded story about Things Falling Apart, but i feel like that makes the ending feel all the more hopeful

i don't really write crossovers, but i do write a lot of multiband fic :-)

9. have you received hate on a fic?

not really, no! i don't think i write that much controversial stuff, & the fandoms i'm active in don't have much gatekeeping/purity complex/pairing discourse shit going on. however, one time i did receive a really snippy, passive-aggressive comment on a dumb smut oneshot and i still think about it daily

10. do you write smut? if so, what kind?

i do, yeah! most of it is slash, and most of it includes some vague sort of d/s dynamic. (what can i say, i'm predictable...)

i had one plagiarized, yeah :-/ & over the years, people have given me a heads up that my fics have ended up on wattpad (and that stupid fucking "ao3 pocket reader" app) without my permission, but i don't even know how to navigate wattpad, let alone submit a complaint abt it lmao

yep! ShadesinBlue and i co-wrote the patience series a little while back and it was a lot of fun :-) we planned it all out, then took turns writing the parts (& wrote some of them together). i'd love to try something like that again sometime .... but i struggle with productivity/being busy all the time, so we'll see :'-)

14. what's your all-time favourite ship?

i'm not really invested in specific ships tbh, i like switching between pairings & exploring different dynamics

15. what's a WIP you want to finish, but don't think you ever will?

looking down the cross my beloved ...... also my kirk/dave prison fic, which is 3/4 done and has been since last year :-/ i'm not giving up on either yet, but the outlook is .... pretty bleak ngl

i hate penning long descriptive passages, i write very, very sporadically, and i have a tendency to ditch WIPs whenever i lose interest for 5 minutes

sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't ? depends on the context .............. the met discord has a running joke about an AU where everything is the same except jason only speaks in french, & i desperately, DESPERATELY want to see it written lmao

19. what was the first fandom you wrote for?

fucking BBC Sherlock, jesus christ ... it was a hunger games au too LMAOO. reading it makes me giggle, for some reason i was 12 years old & writing about gunshots to the head. r/iamverybadass

20. what's your favourite fic you've ever written?

tough call, cuz every time i reread one of my own fics i'm just like ..... wow! this sucks! it's all terrible! i'm an incompetent fraud! :'-)

that said, i think my favs are usually the ones with a lot of myself put into them ... if i had to pick, right now i'm really connecting with four hundred bones again, & fratboy/stonerverse is another one i reliably enjoy thinking abt :-)

A dumb theory but...

Tl;dr Douxie is a (white) man who has never supported oppressors and thinks white supremacy is a load of bull.

I don’t normally write long posts, so just here me out okay. 

So we know that Douxie is ~919 years old. And we know that for his early years, he most likely lived in fear of being prosecuted for something he couldn’t control: magic. That is, until Merlin took him under his wing. I would like to think that, although he lived for long, Douxie doesn’t remember much of his life other than his fear of being prosecuted, the stuff he learned, and major events involving discrimination.

I have this theory that Merlin orders Douxie to travel to other parts of the world because he needs to “broaden his worldview to become a true master” or some shit. (I can totally imagine a “But Master” moment). By this time, Camelot can fly so we know this is completely possible.

-He first studies with the Celtics, then the Vikings. Then he moves to Russia, then to East Asia, India, and then Arabia. I’m sure he learns all about mathematics and science from the South Asian and Arabian wizards. Also, at some point he chills with some Djinn (cuz they can be either bad or good, or even neutral; humans can’t see him, but maybe he can cuz he has wizard powers BUT there is no summoning shit cuz that’s not a real thing). 

-Then he goes to South America, where he learns all about the Aztec and Incan gods, and all that good jazz, before moving to North America to learn from Native tribes like the Cherokee and the Tongva/Kizh. From here, Douxie travels back and forth between the Americas and Africa, until he eventually settles in North America because he finds Natives in America to be the coolest and that’s where the next Trollhunter will be (idk this is me just bullshitting).

-He goes around the world to learn magic, but since he’s a clumsy mess, all he’s ever really done in mundane society is mop floors at restaurants. There might be the occasional royal interaction with like idk the Mughals or Ming Emperor or the Genghis Khan, but not much. (Maybe he met Marco Polo but thought he was a douche idk). This also helps develop his emo aesthetic because he’s just a commoner sharing angst with his coworkers.

-But by being a commoner he discovers underground magic peeps, which is where he meets Zoe, and since Douxie’s always gone to study they have a slow burn friendship-to lovers? relationship. Also, he’s supposed to seem all suave because of Trollhunters Pt 3, but really he’s still an awkward boi and Zoe knows all of this and thinks its funny.

-I’m also gonna say, since he’s multilingual, he’s had to learn with dragons and the different dialects of draconic based on European, Mesopotamian, Asian and Polynesian dragons. This could also have helped build up his fear of Charlemagne the Devourer, because he could be globally infamous. Also who’s to say he didn’t pick up Portuguese or Housa, or some old language that he’s forgotten because of lack of use.

-Also, I think Douxie knows all kinds of classical music, but prefers rock/heavy metal/punk because it’s a relatively new style of music that helps him express his pAIn.

Why did I say all this? Because this sets up his worldview. He would have seen death of millions of Natives to the Americas and the horrendous slave trade going on. Douxie would have seen things like the Haitian revolution, the Salt March in India (and might have also thought Gandhi was a prick), the Mongol take over of the Song dynasty, and the Rwandan genocide. And although he might not remember stuff like how people were like, he definitely would have remembered his own oppression (since it had a lasting impact on his childhood). And he totally would be on the progressive side. He most likely gained socially from his skin color during things like colonization, slavery and imperial expansion. But because of that, he had more ability to influence his white peers. Heck, he might have even actively fought against the ruling government with his fellow common people. (idk about his pov on the Irish Republican Army since he’s still British, but he might be too far removed to support any one group)

SO fast-forward to 2020. Douxie would definitely support BLM. And he probably thinks the rising white supremacists all over the world annoying and confusing, mostly because he doesn’t why they would be so hung-up on being white when there’s things like Chinese food. He would also not support the forced encampment of Uighurs in China.

Of course, feel free to agree, disagree, whatever. I just want my favorite character rn to be an ally. We can all stan an unproblematic king, so that’s what I hope he is. I also want an excuse to draw Douxie in old timey ethnic clothing, so yeah….

wahoo! we actually begin this list with a controversial lowball rank, i think. bandcamp links as always where applicable!

#75. doom - born like this (2009) the masked mc's first appearance on this list comes with what i regard as his weakest solo album, actually his final one as well. this is a much darker effort than most of his other records, his verses spinning more genuinely twisted and gross yarns than his usual cartoonish villainy. it is also worth mentioning that there is an entire song on this that's dedicated to being homophobic, specifically towards, uh, batman? there's enough great wordplay and slinky beats on this thing to satisfy, though, and i did enjoy it. worth a listen just for the tracks where doom decides to kick it into his top form.

#74. the lemon twigs - do hollywood (2016) half beatles worship, half pure cabaret silliness, the lemon twigs for me are an extremely hit or miss band. i think they miss slightly more than they hit on this record, as they have a tendency to cover a lack of strong songwriter with extended noodling instrumental passages. THAT SAID, when they hit, they hit hard enough to make you forget they ever missed - the formula does work, provided they actually stick to it and don't lose the plot.

#73. car seat headrest - how to leave town (2014) similarly to doom, car seat headrest was an artist that i decided to check out the back catalogue of, and found it extremely rewarding!!! how to leave town was one of the lower-impact ones for me, just because of how dense and long-winded some of the songwriting can be. that's not necessarily a detractor for a lot of people, but it's hard for it to sustain my attention for that long. that said (becoming my catchphrase), it has so many amazing moments of pure catharsis that the project is still super compelling as a full listen. as individual tracks though, if you're not in for an hour, they tend to lose me.

#72. third eye blind - s/t (1997) i think there are a lot of people on this earth who would have my head for ranking this above how to leave town, but i really did enjoy this just a little bit more. it's not perfect, again, not every song hits, but when it does hit it is muscular, catchy as hell, and a good precursor of where the better side of scraggly pop-punk like PUP and knuckle puck would go in the next few decades. the guitar tones on this thing are way better than they have any right to be, too, what a satisfying flavor of crunch.

#71. molchat doma - etazhi (2018) if you liked the genuine viral hit "sudno" enough to check out the full album, you'll probably like the rest of it too. molchat doma's coldwave sound is down to a formula here, as listening to the full record repeatedly can get... well, repetitive, but each individual song IS worth it on its own. this is a really good album for playlistification, the hooks hit and the songs totally work, it's just a lot of the time they all fall into a similar niche. this is a problem that i think they fix on their much better followup, monument - which is unfortunately ineligible for this list 'cuz i listened to it right when it came out - but etazhi is more than good enough to represent the dark and gloomy fun i had with molchat doma this year.

#70. ministry - psalm 69: the way to succeed & the way to suck eggs (1991) the 90s industrial scene was a scene that i knew absolutely nothing about, and had very little motivation to get into, since i was born just a tick late to experience it and it seemed kind of like a "you had to be there" thing. it took halfway-befriending a bizarre older coworker who lived and breathed industrial music to get me to actually check some stuff out, and i'm happy to report, you don't have to have been there to get it. if you have a tolerance or love for punishing, breakneck beats, crunched-to-shit guitars, and devilishly soothsaying lyrical content, ministry is probably up your alley. definitely something to lose your mind in the pit to.

#69. hotel mira - divorce (2016) this one caught me totally off guard. soundwise they're nothing special, a pretty standard hard-rock leaning alternative group (who recently changed their name away from the turbo-cringe jpnsgrls), but their melodic sense is some of the sharpest and catchiest ive heard in this style in a long time. damn near every song on this is sticky as hell, and they cover a huge range of emotional ground, from barn-burning romantic odes, to stoner anthems, to this one, which uses a circus as a metaphor for performing in your daily life when you're suffering from depression. shoutout especially to the charisma of the singer, who doesn't have the most amazing voice in the world but makes up for it with dynamism, character, and passion to spare.

#68. the drums - abysmal thoughts (2017) jonny pierce has a remarkable gift for making teeth-rottingly sugary songs that conceal layers of eerie darkness underneath them. whether it's the oddly sinister videos, the emotional strings, the cyclical song structures, the unsettling phrasing and acidic bite on some of the lyrics... there's a lot of strange touches all over this jangly, surfy, catchy as fuck record, and it makes for a breakup album that keeps you on your toes the entire run. it's only this low because of a few unmemorable songs, but this is definitely my favorite drums album.

#67. panic! at the disco - vices and virtues (2011) there may be later panic albums that attained more commercial success by hewing more to the pop side than the oddball side, and there may be earlier panic albums that lost themselves a bit by hewing to the oddball side and getting caught in fanciful concepts that didn't give their sharp hooks enough room to breathe. for my money, though, this may just be the finest of them all, one where brendon's pure pop and vocal acrobatics share equal room with his sole remaining bandmate's punk inclinations and their shared love of theatrics, and neither buries the other. super underrated album in Serious Critical Circles.

#66. hayden thorpe - diviner (2019) look. i will be honest with you. do i miss wild beasts? yes, absolutely, they were one of my favorite bands for a long, long time, and this hayden thorpe solo album can't quite replace the absence of the full group. buuuuut..... was a huge part of why wild beasts appealed to me over other similar bands thorpe's striking and distinctive falsetto? yes. am i glad i can still scratch that itch with new stuff? holy shit, yes. this album is quiet, reflective, and emotionally open, and hayden's voice is as rich ever. i'm fine with this outcome as long as i can still hear him.
