Amaimon alphabet headcanons - [SFW]
a/n: its 2:10am. i have no regrets. enjoy!!
Amaimon:
A = Affection (How affectionate are they with an s/o?)
Affectionate? More like possessive, oop. Well, Amaimon's pretty affectionate - if you consider that one of his arms is wrapped around your waist almost all the time, no matter where you are. Other than that, not really, unless you "educate" him a little bit.
B = Breath (What could their s/o do to take their breath away?)
Beat the shit out of somebody, literally. Whether this would be in your defense or someone made you angry, he's impressed in both situations. Obviously, he will help you if someone attacks you, but damn. That stupid dude that just attacked you is now lying on the ground and your knuckles are all bloody? That's hot. (insert Amaimon with binocs)
C = Cuddling (Do they cuddle? If they do, how and when do they cuddle?)
He cuddles you when he feels like it, or if you pester him enough. You can also win him over using sweets. He likes having you on his lap, your one hand playing with his hair and the other one feeding him. Now, when you feel down, he's all about spooning you and giving your neck little kisses.
D = Dream (What do they dream of doing with their s/o?)
Lazing around, feeding him and doing nothing is his dream. That's it, pretty much.
E = Effort (How much effort do they put into a relationship?)
*snorts*- He's (kinda) trying and that matters.
F = Fear (What do they do if their s/o is scared? How do they handle it?)
Amaimon gets angry. Like, really, really angry and it doesn't really matter if that's because of the storm you're scared of or a person. Depending on your emotional and physical state, he's either gonna calm down a bit or go get his hands dirty. Just imagine him hissing every time it thunders outside.
G = Gifts (What type of gifts do they give their s/o? Do they want a gift in return?)
He gives you the most beautiful flowers from all around the world, and honestly, this is so breathtaking sometimes that makes you tear up (he, on the other hand, doesn't understand why you're getting emotional; its just flowers, right?). Doesn't really want nor expects to get a gift in return, but will appreciate (in his own way) if gets one.
H = Hugs (Do they hug their s/o? How often?)
He himself hugs you when you're either injured or he hasn't seen you in a while (but hugs you back when you hug him first, anytime). Doesn't really feel the need to do it often.
I = Intimacy (How romantic are they? Do they have problems with intimacy?)
Amaimon?? Romantic?????? Explain it to him. After that, he probably won't do that anyway. Intimacy though? no problem. He's made out with you and done worse things in public, so its pretty much a normal thing for him.
J = Jealous (Do they get jealous? How do they act when jealous?)
Oh, my sweet summer child, he gets jealous a fucking lot, unless he knows that person. Hopefully you have fast reflexes, cuz otherwise if he isn't stopped he's going for murder if he's pissed off enough. Demands explanations, such as who that person/people were. If he's in a good mood, he's just gonna throw you over his shoulder and walk away.
K = Kiss (Are they a good kisser? Do they like to kiss? How often do they try to kiss you?)
Amaimon's quite a good kisser - he's gotten some experience throughout the years. Plus, he likes kissing more than hugging! His kisses are unexpected, usually when you're busy and don't notice him as much - it's his way to get your attention back too. Also, when he kisses you, one of his hands is in your hair, pulling it slightly.
L = Love (When do they say they love you? How often do they say it? Do they prefer to say or show it?)
He doesn't really say that cus he doesn't fully understand the meaning of that words; he also thinks it's "too human". Instead, he's declaring his love through actions - such as protecting you or listening to your vent (he really is a good listener, but doesn't give you any advice; he knows you're gonna make the right decision. Plus, he gives you free cuddles too.). One more thing about saying "I love you" - he will say it, but its gonna take him a lot of time to realize and convince himself that it's "the love that humans talk about" - the highest possibility is after your near-death experience.
M = Marriage (Do they want to get married? If so, what kind of ceremony?)
Doesn't care about that. He'll probably say no, cuz its too much of a hassle with paperwork. HOWEVER! He might propose himself - which, bluntly said, means some demonic shit involved. Despite that incident with Shiemi, I dont think he casually proposes to a woman he barely knows - if you say yes, it means that both your body and soul will belong to him, dead or alive.
N = Night out (What type of dates do they like to go on? How often do they like to go on them?)
Wants to go out with you almost every day, or rather night - he finds pretty spots during the day that aren't available for normal people to reach. These are usually picnics, or you both lying on the grass together, watching the stars with your personal heater.
O = Out of the Ordinary (What’s something they don’t normally do with/for their s/o?)
Amaimon reminds you every once in a while that you shouldn't mess with either Lucifer or Mephisto, cuz he sadly won't be able to save you if the situation gets ugly. One - he's aware that both of them are way more powerful than he is, and two - he wants to stay neutral as long as possible (lets ignore Mephisto for a while).
P = Playful (Are they playful in a relationship? If so, how do they play around/mess with their s/o?)
Playful, hm? He's more annoying than playful - well, unless you consider poking you to death as "playing around".
Q = Questions (Do they ask their s/o their opinion on things? Do they share theirs?)
Amaimon asks for your opinion, but ends up doing what he originally thought. Depending on the subject, he says his own opinion either often or rarely. For example, he'll answer "why sweets X are better than Y" but if asked about his brothers' plans, he'll just shrug.
R = Random (How spontaneous is their relationship? Do they do things on the spot or plan ahead?)
Your whole relationship is spontaneous to begin with, and so is everything else. You can try to plan something ahead, but keep in mind that will probably change anyway.
S = Sleep (How do they sleep with their s/o?
He loves sleeping with you - thinks that your small and delicate form is "cute", as humans say; but it's not as pretty as it seems. He shuffles a fucking ton in his sleep, occasionally snores. You may have experienced a very ugly smack of his elbow in your face once. Or twice. But don't worry, you can smack him back, he'll think it's just an annoying bug.
T = Trust (How much do they trust their s/o?)
His trusts to you gradually grows, so with time he stops checking if you're telling him the truth or not.
U = Unique (What makes them unique as an s/o?)
He silently adores you. Like, you have something you're passionate about and you're in the middle of explaining it to him, and the way your eyes shine makes him fall in love with you more. The thing that you're never tired of showing him new things, that you're always patient with him and so on - it makes him so soft. He'll never tell you that, though.
V = Vulnerable (How long until they can be vulnerable around their s/o? What are they like in this state?)
A very, very, VERY long time, relying on his trusts to you. He's enraged, snarling, but you're the only person that's able to calm him down. Despite his furiousness, he listens to you, doesn't destroy anything. It'll take a while, but you always manage to do it.
W = Wild Card (Get a random domestic headcanon of the character of your choice)
Tends to grow some flowers and put them behind your ear. You look insanely cute while he "just thinks it fits you and you should wear that".
X = X-Ray (What would they do if their s/o got injured?)
Anger, anger, slight panic and taking you to a hospital - in that exact order.
Y = Yuck (Do they have any pet peeves about their s/o? Are there any habits that might bother their s/o?)
Please, PLEASE don't talk about his brothers (especially Mephisto - he'll get jealous) and father while being with him. That's why he isn't in Gehenna, but with you.
Z = Zeal (Are they passionate as an s/o? Do they want or like passion?)
He's pretty passionate? or tries, at least. Whether you're passionate as hell or just like him, he's all for it.

Partner in Crime
— A scenario to celebrate this blog hitting the 100 follower mark!!!

➳ Pairing: Akaashi Keiji x F!Reader

➳ Genre: FLUFF, ANGST

Prologue: Trouble Ahead
Alt Route: Wit’s End (Tsukishima Route)
➳ Recap: (Y/n) had a choice to make. Go after her broken friendship with a childhood friend, or stay with the new and intriguing project partner…
She decided to stay with Akaashi as her grades were at stake and she wanted to at least get along with the latter since she was going to be the Fukurodani’s manager after the 3rd years have graduated.
I could always talk to Tsukishima later. (Y/n) thought before snapping out of her reverie when she heard a familiar voice.
“Okay. Let’s discuss it after our practice match.” The vice-captain calmly replied. “Is that okay?” To which (y/n) immediately responded with a nodding of agreement. Akaashi shot her with a small smile before walking away and joining his team who looked on with a slight smirk on their faces.
It was gone, that unfamiliar way his heart babbles at her sudden actions. What was it? Either way, she was kinda cu—
Akaashi shook his head softly to hide his red tinted cheeks whilst (y/n) looked on and smiling softly at herself before starting to help the other managers on setting everything out: the chairs, the water bottles, the towels, etc.
Later after practice, they did talk about their topic and settled on the Development of Documentaries in Volleyball as both have aspects of Volleyball and Film. Their interaction was stiff and awkward but they did sort of makeup so (y/n) counts it as a win.
When the night came, Bokuto saw (y/n) walk past the gym he and Akaashi were practicing at. “Hey (l/n)!” Bokuto called out, gaining the younger girl’s attention “Do you wanna watch our practice with Nekoma’s captain? You could assess our skills and gain experience from it!”
(Y/n) thought about it for a minute before smiling brightly. “Sure, Bokuto-kun! I can only stay for a couple hours though, since we managers are gonna cook for you all tonight.” She reasoned out before adding, “Oh! Lemme get my clipboard real quick!” as she runs off to retrieve said item.
Akaashi raised a brow in suspicion at his friend who just smiled innocently at him before the ravennette began playing with his fingers as they invited two more people to practice with them.
(Y/n) came back with her clipboard after a few minutes, she was greeted by a surprising sight: Akaashi is tossing for Bokuto and Kuroo guiding Tsukishima while whipping Lev to shape by making him practice on receiving.
When did the two of them look so cool when playing volleyball? Especially Akaashi. She asked herself as she felt her cheeks heat up. I guess I haven’t paid much attention to him when I became a manager. She rationalized, nodding slightly as if to convince herself.
After their practice, Tsukishima approached (y/n) with Yamaguchi urging him to sincerely apologize while she did the same, bowing her head slightly. “Tsukki, I’m so sorry for not talking to you.”
“No, it’s fine. I didn’t take any effort too.” Tsukishima replies while Akaashi nods to you both as he walks past and stepped out of the gym with a heavy heart.
He had heard about they’re situation from the others and he wanted to give them space to sort out their differences but at the same time, something told him he didn’t like the way they got close to each other.
They may be friends but I’m— Akaashi stopped on his tracks, his eyes widening slightly in realization. It explained everything; the bubbling feeling and the heaviness on his chest. How could he not have known? The answer was in front of him the whole time, yet he didn’t notice.
Reason 1: He wasn’t the type to fight someone.
Reason 2: He could’ve agreed to her suggestion on the topic, yet he didn’t.
Reason 3: She was younger than him, which meant that she was stubborn and yet he couldn’t stop being cheeky and kept on bickering.
Reason 4— Akaashi suddenly realized something that shook his whole core, he only argued to get a response from her… Since they didn’t interact at all from the day they were partnered up.
With this new found information, Akaashi now sees (y/n) in a different light as he begins walking again with a small smile whilst a warm feeling spreads throughout his chest.
(Y/n) sighed after eating dinner with the five schools. Making dinner for all of them was tiring and she immediately felt exhausted from keeping up with the hyper first years that Karasuno and Nekoma have. All she wanted to do now was fall onto her sleeping mat and sleep as she made her way to where the girls room was and knocked before entering. She laid out her sleeping mat while the two third years put on their pajamas before changing into her pajamas herself.
The next day came sooner than (y/n) would have liked. She groaned softly as she turned from her side to her back, her head popped out of the covers before pulling the blanket off her.
(Y/n) stared blankly at the ceiling before blinking once or twice and stretching her limbs to fully wake her up. A yawn escaped from her parted lips as she slowly sat up before dragging herself out of the comfort of sleeping in for the day.
All the managers and coaches gathered around the lounge area as they all prepared for breakfast before eating with the boys then practicing, and the process repeats for lunch and dinner. This became a routine everyday during the training camp.
As days of the training camp passed by, you and Akaashi mostly kept their interactions civil. Although, there’s still occasional bickering between them – it’s not as bad as before.
And when they did argue, the 3rd years would often tease them by remarking ‘how they quarrel like an old married couple’ to which (y/n) immediately denies, effectively and ultimately forgetting about the little squabble with Akaashi while the latter shakes his head in disappointment.
(Y/n) actually developed a somewhat okay-ish friendship with her project partner while her relationship with everybody else is like being the team’s little sister as she is the youngest. While she, Tsukishima, and Yamaguchi remained close. Occasionally, meeting up once in a while.
Bokuto started it all. He immediately bombarded (y/n) with his hyper energetic attitude, slightly overwhelming her with it since she wasn’t used to it as a certain someone from middle school was mean to her.
Then, Kaori and Yukie teaches (y/n) about everything she need to know about managing, including managing Bokuto’s mood swings while Washio occasionally gives (y/n) some wisdom on how to cheer their captain up or gives her encouragement which she appreciate, she actually look up to him and see him as her older surrogate brother.
Sarukui and Konoha offer (y/n) to teach her how to play volleyball while telling her about other team’s strengths and weaknesses, giving her tips and tricks on certain plays.
Ahanori and Onaga immediately became (y/n)’s friends, the three are always seen talking to each other or sitting next to each other during breaks and in between practices as the two males were easier to talk and approach.
On the last day, Tsukishima approached her. “Can we talk somewhere private for a minute?” (Y/n) agreed as he led her somewhere but Akaashi got curious so he followed them. “This isn’t easy for me. I’ve never… not like this. But. You matter to me. A lot.” Tsukishima started.
“Ok? I get that our fight wasn’t easy but you’re my friend—”
“I like you.” He interrupted, cornering her against the wall. “No, I’m not expecting a reaction, I’m just stating the fact that I like you. I’ve been in denial for years now, denying these feelings in my heart but I’m done. I like you. There. It’s out in the world.” He took a deep breath before continuing, “I like you, and if you don’t feel the same, that’s okay too. I’m not expecting you to like me back.”
(Y/n) gaped, her whole face turning beet red before gulping hard at the lump forming in her throat. “Oh, I see. I— uh...“ She shifted uncomfortably, looking everywhere for help.
Tsukishima slammed a hand against the brick wall. Halfway closing her in, but still giving her an out if she so chose. “You what?” he taunted. “Come on, (y/n). You know, you can form coherent words better than that.”
Akaashi stepped in and pulled (y/n) behind him, shielding her protectively as she pecked out from behind, holding his arm before looking at Tsukishima with an expression that said ‘I’m sorry’. He glanced between them and sighed in understanding, he gave (y/n) a wry smile and gave Akaashi a respectful nod before walking off.
For the rest of the day, Akaashi kept an eye on (y/n) and when they all got inside the bus, he sat beside her and held her hand throughout the day. He was doing something on his phone and noticed something heavy on his shoulder, he looked down and saw (y/n) leaning on it. Akaashi smiled, shifting slightly so they can both be comfortable before watching the scenery pass by the window until they reached the Fukurodani grounds.
Akaashi shook her lightly to wake her up, offering his open hand. “(Y/n), wake up. We’re here.” to which she woke up to, instinctively accepting his hand as she didn’t mind the way his hand fits snuggly in hers.
They continue their project; Akaashi does the research on his part while (y/n) does hers while co-editing it to fit their topic together perfectly. They don’t fight as much as before besides the occasional vague remarks from Akaashi that seemed kind of flirtatious?
(Y/n) can’t really tell as she never could figure out how the mind of her project partner works but she did notice that their interactions seemed to be getting more enjoyable. Back then, she was miserable as he pointed out all her weaknesses and mistakes like he already memorized them mentally. Now, he was sort of polite and humbled down in a way.
She approached him to confront him about it. “Do you regret it?”
“What?”
“You know..” she trailed off, struggling to find the correct words. “Everything…?”
He was quiet for a long moment. Heat flooded her face as she opened her mouth to tell him to forget she asked, but he finally said, “Just because we fought doesn’t mean I regretted anything as the matter of fact I didn’t, I enjoyed every single bit of it because I got to be partnered up with you.”
“Yeah.” She said with a bright smile. “Me too.”
Months went by after they got an A+ on their project together, (y/n) was now in the library and looking for a certain book that taught aspiring photographers how to start their own businesses from scratch. She found it on a shelf as she reached up to it, she discovered that she couldn’t reach it. She tiptoed in an attempt to somehow reach over it but failed miserably and when she was about to give up and move on, a hand went above her and grabbed the book she was reaching out for.
“Thanks.” She turned around to face the kind stranger only to see Akaashi was the one who helped her out. “Oh, it’s you, my partner in crime.”
He raised a brow at her before shaking his head softly with a small smile. “Always.” Akaashi replied before wrapping an arm around her waist, pulling her closer and placing his free hand on the back of her head. “You’re always my partner in crime and I’m yours.”
“Seems I’ve put myself again in a whole lot of trouble ahead.” (Y/n) chuckled softly before leaning towards him.
“That’s one of your weaknesses too,” He started before continuing, “but it’s too late to back out now.” Akaashi’s warm lip met yours in a slow yet sweet kiss before giving her the book she was reaching for and a brand new blue polaroid camera. Later, (y/n) took their first picture of them together in tribute to all the previous love quarrels they made.

The Miracle Job Rewatch
Wow it sure took me a while to watch this episode damn. Also I’m gonna start putting these under read mores because they’re too long
Anyways, I think I understand why they might’ve switched the Two Horse Job with The Wedding Job, on account of it would explain why Nate is ordained and can marry off a couple without anyone questioning the validity of it
If we think about it going in the order it was supposed to though, with Nate marrying off the couple before telling the team he was a priest (or was going to be anyways) its kind of funny because that means the team didn’t care about its validity and just wanted to get the con over with
The mural in the church though, it’s gorgeous. The statue? can’t stop laughing at his little Y arms
The priest is definitely a guy Nate would be friends with, what with his humor and all
Listen I’m not religious and I know this is a running theme throughout the episode but seriously who beats up a priest, or any holy man for that matter? Unless the guys a fucking asshole I understand but come on
How did Sophie get that role? Knowing her the actual cast member dropped out or something and she jumped on the chance to play
Eliot playing Russian roulette with a bunch of criminals is somehow not as bad as watching Sophie’s play and I want to think he’s just exaggerating to get his point across but also Death of a Salesman is almost 2 and half hours long so maybe it really was that bad (either way I think Eliot needs to lighten up on Sophie)
Ok Ok, smooth Nate really smooth
Do you think Nate actually watched the play? He probably already knows the premise of Death of a Salesman so he can cover his ass if he fell asleep but the way he was watching Sophie in the first episode makes me think that maybe he is just fascinated with watching how her version plays out
First mention of Maggie, and with Sophie’s tone and with what we already know, we can kind of figure out that whatever she’s telling Nate is important and that the client is possibly connected to Nate (great writing tbh)
“You read the police report?” “Yeah, I do that.”
The back and forth with Nate being All Business and Paul trying to get him to tell him if it had been Maggie he was talking to is very.... telling of how Nate feels about his “job” and his old life. Nate lost everything, including the wife he really loved, and now he’s driven himself into the ground trying to do anything that might distract him from what happened to Sam and his old life basically.
I never realized before but parker has probably never actually experienced church or interacted with any religion in a....... religious way
Nate trying desperately to convince the team to help out his old friend like they hadn’t already helped out Sophie’s against the mob, or like they wouldn’t be all over it after learning some dudes jumped a priest.
They have better hearts than I think themselves, and Nate, give them credit for
They were fully prepared for Nate! Hardison knew he was gonna start asking about who wanted the church and got signs of each place.
“I don’t do gangs” Do you think this is the episode that Hardison started to learn how to defend himself from attackers?
oof, look at how happy and proud Nate looks. That little boy was his life
This scene really drives home the fact that Hardison and Eliot have had very different experiences in life. While Hardison has mainly done cons behind the safety of his hacking and never really had to fight anyone, Eliot has done this before. He knows where gangs have their hideouts, he knows walking into their turf will draw them out, he knows they’ll pull guns or knives etc.
Side note: Eliot grabbing that dudes gun and holding it down his pants while he interrogates them? kind of hot ngl
“A specific range of efficacy” Yeah ok sure, he hates them because most inexperienced people use them in the least effective range instead of the fact that he’s probably got PTSD
ANYWAYS DISARMING THAT DUDE WITH A HEADBUTT IS KIND OF HOT ALSO
However, Hardison freaking out is exactly how I would feel in that situation, mainly because I (and Hardison) realize that Eliot is there and after seeing what Eliot can do there’s very little chance he would let anything happen
What was that move, Hardison? Did he shove him??
Hey, at least he noticed that dude was acting weird. He’s very observant and picks up on a lot of things which helps out when he’s hacking
“Somebody’s gotta fight the injured, shoot that’s my niche”
Can we talk about how Eliot keeps looking back? Like he’s expecting a gunshot, whether it’s at the gang member or at them
God when the team is going hard against someone they really go hard. First smacking him with wood and changing his pills, then dumping his assistant on the floor to get him alone in an elevator
“You gave speed?” Hardison’s half-assed attempt to make an excuse for Parker because he did beat up a priest but also, speed?
Parker is so smart. Like, especially when she’s doing anything involving stealing but there are moments like this where she comes up with an elegant way of saying “let's ruin this dude”.
I peg Hardison for being agnostic. Or something along those lines. Mainly because I feel somewhat similarly toward what they’re doing. Cus there’s a difference between taking advantage of someone’s greeds/fears vs taking advantage of their religion and faith
DID PARKER REALLY DRAW BLOOD FROM HIM
Sophie is vicious. I think they all are in their own way but Sophie gets next to her mark, gets cozy and they trust her and then she turns around and uses them for her con
1) Hardison is an amazing artist
2) Eliot’s got a point because at 10 feet when you’re not moving and your target is standing still, you should have time to aim and hit it
Alright so digging in: Nate harbors guilt over Sam’s death and the falling apart of his marriage..... and his little game of cat and mouse with Sophie. He never cheated on Maggie, there may have been some flirting but he was honest and never slept with Sophie or anyone else, and I highly doubt Sophie ever tried to push him to sleep with her knowing he was married. But he still feels guilty because, well come on, one guilt piles on another and soon it’s snowballing. He’s thinking about every little mistake, whether Maggie cared about it or not, and wondering if he could’ve done things differently, how would things have turned out?
Sophie, on the other hand, knows he was honest, knows there’s nothing he should be feeling guilty about, at least not when it comes to what they had before the team. Maybe she harbors some envy toward Maggie, but she’s also in a very unstable and unsure spot. She doesn’t know where she stands with Nate personally, only professionally as a grifter on his team. And maybe she does feel somewhat guilty, but she’s trying to lessen the burden that Nate’s put on himself (not that she’s supposed to do that, and it’s another reason I’m glad the writers pushed off their romance)
You know you fucked up when the Vatican rolls up
(now I wanna see a job that takes place in/near the Vatican where the team has to avoid the Vatican and try not to get themselves smited for another fake miracle because Hardison, Parker, and Eliot booked it as soon as they heard the Vatican)
Paul really nailed Nate. At this point, Nate is an alcoholic and he’s depressed, like severely. Nate is using this team as a way to maybe redeem some part of himself, and possibly end him in a way that’s well.... it either does some good for someone or it ruins his reputation
I also wonder if Nate ever did go back before they moved. Maybe just once or twice, even if it was just to talk to Paul.
Also very clever to use Saint Nicholas. After digging around (googling about him) I found out he’s technically the patron saint of repentant thieves

With Frozen 2 now playing in theaters, I recently sat down with Jonathan Groff to talk about making the highly anticipated sequel. During the wide-ranging conversation, Groff talked about when he knew they were going to make the film, how the film pushes away from the norm by not having a “villain” and instead features the main characters grappling with their own growth and change, Kristoff’s ‘80s inspired song that has adults laughing out loud, how the filmmakers have flipped what the male love interest is going through by having him struggling with how to communicate to the woman he loves, what it will take to get the cast to perform all the Frozen music on tour, what song he was sad to see not make the finished film, and more. In addition, he talked about the status of Mindhunter season 3, if he’s had any pressure to get on social media, if he thinks Frozen 3 will happen, the difference between the West End and Broadway theater audiences, and a lot more.
Check out what Jonathan Groff had to say below.
Collider: So let’s jump into the most important question.
JONATHAN GROFF: Okay.
When do you start filming Mindhunter season three?
GROFF: (laughs) I don’t know. TBD.
I know [David] Fincher’s making a movie, so that’s going to take him out for at least eight months.
GROFF: Yeah, we couldn’t do it ‘til after he was done with that.
Yeah. It’s still not fast enough. I saw Holt [McCallany] recently and mentioned that to him as well, and I basically have said repeatedly I need 50 episode seasons.
GROFF: Oh my God. And you know that he and I would be so down. We’re ready. We’re ready. Whenever the call comes, we’re ready to jump.
Yes. I just want to start the interview off with the most important thing.
GROFF: I love you for that.
Yeah, listen. I love that show, and all of us on the site love that show.
GROFF: Oh, good.
It’s so good.
GROFF: Good.
I can keep on going, but I’m going to stop. So, jumping into why I get to talk to you, first, let me start by saying congratulations. The pressure, or the difficulty of making a great sequel to such a beloved movie is really hard, and you guys did it. Do you know where you are today and what day in the promotion process it is?
GROFF: I do.
Because you guys have been going nonstop.
GROFF: I jumped on. So the group went to Toronto, but I’m actually doing a revival of Little Shop of Horrors right now off-Broadway, and so I know that this is day three of my promotion experience, because I left the show on Sunday. I got here on Monday. Our first thing was on Wednesday… Oh no. So, it’s day four. I already messed it up. It’s day four. (laughs)
So you must’ve put it in your contract for Little Shop that you… Disney must’ve said you have to be able to promote?
GROFF: Yes. In May when the director of Little Shop, Michael Mayer, called and asked me to do it, I said, “Oh, I’m not doing anything this fall, except I have to have off for these two weeks.” And they said yes, so they knew it from the very beginning. They hired an amazing actor named Gideon Glick, who I did Spring Awakening with back in the day, to replace me for these two weeks.
Have you done anything on the West End?
GROFF: I have, actually.
My question is, and I’ve been asking this of all the actors I talked to who do theater, do you notice a difference between the audiences in the West End and Broadway?
GROFF: Yes. The biggest, I think, difference [in the West End] would be less vocal, less standing up, less standing ovations. It’s just a cultural difference in that Americans are more apt to jump up and clap and be more vocal throughout the course of any given performance, and the Brits are a little more reserved.
Do the Brits ever do the standing ovation at the end?
GROFF: Yes.
So when they do it, they mean it?
GROFF: A hundred percent, and the two times that I’ve been in the audience of a West End show where it’s felt like an American audience was The Book of Mormon and Hamilton.
Oh yeah.
GROFF: Yeah.
And you felt that energy?
GROFF: Yeah. I was like, “Well, I could it be in New York right now. This is how crazy these shows are making the audience, even in London.” I remember also Lin [Manuel Miranda] telling me that the difference between — because I did Hamilton on Broadway for almost a year. And then they took it to London, and he said that it was the same reaction except when Aaron Burr sings, “I’m keeping her bed warm while her husband is away” randomly in his song Wait For It, it gets a huge laugh in London. Never had a laugh in America. There’s the one difference between the British and the American audience.
That’s so interesting.
GROFF: So bizarre, right?
It’s also very bizarre.
GROFF: I know.
Switching gears completely — I appreciate you sharing the theater stuff — how early on did you know that the sequel was going to get made, and how long did you have to keep it a secret?
GROFF: I didn’t know early on at all. Probably a year and a half after the first one I found out that they were making a second one, and it was sort of like, they announced that they were making, they asked us to do it and they announced it sort of all at the same time, so I never felt like I was really keeping a secret.
Oh that’s not bad.
GROFF: No, not bad at all.
My favorite part of this movie is, besides the animation and everything, I love that there’s just no villain, that there’s no guy or girl trying to get her powers or come between them.
GROFF: Yeah.
It’s so refreshing.
GROFF: Yeah.
And it’s really so well done. Can you sort of talk about that aspect of the film?
GROFF: Yeah, I think that really, ultimately, the biggest challenge sort of that each of the characters have in kind of a general way is grappling with their own self growth and change. So Idina [Menzel] is scared of, but excited to follow, the voice that’s calling to her, and that sort of trickles down then into all of the characters. So Anna’s learning how to let her sister go, and let her sister do her own thing, and leave her to her own devices to survive. Olaf is asking really challenging existential questions about life as he gets older.
Of course.
GROFF: And Kristoff is ready to take his relationship to the next level with Anna, but he’s really not good at communicating and expressing himself. Then halfway through the movie is given an amazing ’80s inspired rock jam to be able to do so. (laughs)
That song — little kids are not going to get it. When I saw it last night, the adults in the audience were laughing hard.
GROFF: Right.
So talk a little bit about how that song really plays for adults.
GROFF: Yeah, totally. Bobby and Kristen Lopez told me that they were going to try and get a song in for my character in the movie. I thought, “That’s so nice of them to say that, but it just seems… How are you going to make the mountain man sing? I want to hear the girls sing. I want to hear Idina belt out a hundred numbers. Who wants to hear Kristoff sing?” I couldn’t figure out story-wise, because they’re so passionate and invested in storytelling as opposed to just writing catchy songs. And they thought of this amazing arc with Kristoff of him trying to propose and not being able to, and then ultimately getting frustrated by his inability to do so and busting out on this ’80s song, which I think that a lot of dudes, particularly parents of the kids that are coming to see the show, like you said, can relate to that genre and that time period in the ’80s as a way to really let it go and self-express. And Kristen Anderson-Lopez mentioned earlier, they wrote Let It Go for Elsa in the first movie and it inspired all these girls to feel their power. On the flip side of that, in the second movie, here is a song for a male character that perhaps will invite boys to get in touch with their feelings. Sven says, “You feel what you feel and your feelings are real. Come on Kristoff, let down your guard.” And so if little boys all over the world are hearing that, hopefully they’ll be inspired to express themselves.
It is pretty crazy to realize the first movie has been seen — I can’t even imagine the amount of people around the world that have actually seen the first movie, repeatedly.
GROFF: Yeah, right.
And to realize that this movie is going to be seen by maybe even more people.
GROFF: Yeah.
The power of the messaging in these movies is more important than I think a lot of people realize, and having that positive message… like your character is so different than what is normally written for the male love interest, if you will.
GROFF: Absolutely. I mean, that’s what I loved also about the first movie of Frozen is that the true love in the movie is between sisters as opposed to a woman looking for a man’s love, and even in the first movie, Kristoff, one of his lines in the beginning to Anna is, “You can’t marry a man you just met.” Whereas in all the old sort of Disney fairytales, it’s love at first sight, and one day my prince will come. So in the first movie, they sort of inverted those ideas, and made it more modern, and more contemporary, and more feminist. And they’ve done the same thing with this movie and with all of these characters, and particularly with Kristoff. Normally the girl is pining after the man, and the man leaves, and then she sings an emotional song, and this is the reverse, where Kristoff is struggling with how to communicate to the woman he loves. Then she goes off on an adventure without him, and he’s left alone to sing about his feelings. So very cleverly, the filmmakers have reversed that in this movie.
A hundred percent. I brought this up with a lot of other people. What will it take for you guys as a group to either do the Hollywood Bowl or go on tour where you play all the songs from the first Frozen and Frozen 2, as well as the cut songs that never made the movie?
GROFF: Yes, sign me up. Sign me up. I would do it in a second. All they would have to do is ask. I would do it in a second.
Okay, so you’re receptive to this?
GROFF: Absolutely.
Can you talk about some of the songs that you — because obviously Kristen and Bobby told me that the ratio on this one was that they only said they wrote seven songs that didn’t make the finished version, and on the first one they wrote like 2- something.
GROFF: For the first movie they wrote 20 songs?
But it makes sense though, because the first one they’re still figuring out the voices.
GROFF: The world of everything. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Of course.
Yeah. So like you’re writing, and writing, and writing to find the voices and find the movie, and in the sequel, they know the voices and the characters, so it makes sense to have written less —
GROFF: Yeah, there’s only so many places it could possibly go. It’s not like anything could happen, because the characters have already established who they are.
Did you have a song or two that didn’t make the finished film that you were sad to see go?
GROFF: I recorded a song while we were shooting Mindhunter, and I was in Pittsburgh, and I drove to New York on the weekend to record this song called “I Want to Get This Right.” And it was when in the story Kristoff was going to try and propose to Anna at the very beginning. It was not an ’80s jam. It was almost like a Jackson 5 kind of, like, uptempo R&B song. It was really cute, and I loved it, and I loved singing it, and it was Kristoff’s song, and then it became sort of a Kristoff-Anna duet song. I recorded it in New York over a weekend, and really felt like, “Oh wow. This is a huge part of the story that he’s trying to propose and he’s singing to her and it’s this proposal, so I don’t think the song is going to get cut, because it’s really like a part of the narrative of the story.” Then a couple months later, I come into a recording session, this time it was in Pittsburgh, and they were like, “So we changed the story and we cut your song. But we’re gonna write you another song, and it’s going to be an ’80s jam where Kristoff really, like, lives in his feelings.” I thought, “Oh, that’s so nice of them to say that, but surely that’s the most absurd idea I’ve ever heard and that will never happen.” And then it did.
Right, exactly. It all works out, because that song is fantastic.
GROFF: Yeah. Right, right.
Mindhunter — I can’t believe I get to bring this back. It’s a really great performance you have to do, and how much do you sort of submerge into that reality when you’re filming? Are you able to sort of shut it off and turn on Frozen, if you will, on like a weekend or on a weeknight when you have to go record something? That has to be challenging.
GROFF: The thing that’s similar about, I can’t believe there is a similarity, but the thing that is similar about Mindhunter and Frozen is that with Mindhunter, you’re working for David Fincher, which is like the ultimate safety net. You just know that you can do anything, you can try anything, you can throw it all up against the wall, and he’s going to go in and put together something great. So there’s this safety net as a performer that allows you to take risks and do things because you know he’s got this. You know?
Sure.
GROFF: Then on the flip side with Frozen, I just trust Jen and Chris and Bobby and Kristen so implicitly. They cut the song. It was a great song that I recorded, and they cut it because it didn’t work for the movie. They are very ego-less about the work that they produce, and they’re all very committed to the best possible story they can tell, and so in the same way in going to work for Frozen, it’s like I just make myself available to them. I just try and be as creative as I possibly can with the stuff that they give me, and throw it all up against the wall and see what sticks, and let them put it together and make whatever they want to make.
One of the things I want to bring up is that you are, unlike a lot of your cohorts, not on social at all. Or am I wrong about this?
GROFF: No, you’re correct.
Have you not had any pressure from a publicist or an agent? “You know, if you want to do Instagram, it wouldn’t be that bad.”
GROFF: No, I haven’t. I really haven’t. My agents and my publicists, they all, thankfully, get me, and so they totally understand that it’s just not my jam.
Sure.
GROFF: I feel like in order for it to be great, and positive, and productive, you have to really want to invest in it, and I hate how much I look at my phone already with text messaging, and so I just didn’t want to add another element to that.
Do you ghost on some of the social formats?
GROFF: No, I really don’t.
Really?
GROFF: I know, isn’t that crazy?
Because a lot of people say, “Oh, I’m not on Instagram.” But then they’ll be like, “But I ghost on it. I have a private account that nobody —
GROFF: No, I really don’t. I really don’t. Isn’t that weird?
No, I actually think it’s very healthy.
GROFF: Okay. It’s sort of ignorant. In certain ways ignorance is bliss where I’m sort of unaware of opinions and things like that, because I’m just not on social media at all.
Look, I think it’s an unhealthy obsession when you see people constantly taking selfies in every possible place just to… It makes me crazy, but that’s just me.
GROFF: It’s weird. Ironically, in the theater at Little Shop when we were in tech, I was the one with my phone out videotaping and taking pictures of everything, because I was like, “This is so much fun and I want to capture it.” And everyone is saying, “Why are you taking pictures? You’re not even on social media.” And I’m like, “Oh no, this is just for me to look at later.” So I do take a lot of pictures. I just keep them to myself or I text them to my friends or whatever.
So I have to ask you. Do you think in your gut feeling — because I know they have not talked about a Frozen 3 — but in another five years that there could be another?
GROFF: I mean, after the first one, I couldn’t even have imagined a Frozen 2, to be honest. When they said they were making a second one, I was thrilled to go back to work, but there wasn’t a piece of me that could have comprehended how you further the story. And then Jen and Chris and Bobby and Kristen came up with, I think, it’s a true masterpiece, and there’s never been a [theatrical animated] musical sequel made ever to a Disney film. So they broke ground with that. I think I would do anything that they do. I’m just following their lead.
Sure.
GROFF: I have no gut feeling about whether or not there will be a third one. I would just do whatever they asked me to do.
On that note, congratulations.
GROFF: Thank you.

Roswell New Mexico New York Comic Con 2019 Cast Hollywood News Source Round Table Interview: Lily Cowles
youtube
Note: this is a “round table” so there is more than one interviewer. I have differentiated them where I can but they do not identify themselves in the video and I had difficulty keeping track of them, so my accuracy is most likely minimal.
Transcript:
Interviewer 1: I’m obsessed with the show -
Lily: Oh my god. Really?!
Interviewer 1: Yeah! But like, I’m obsessed with the show but I wanna know, like, what can you tell - can you tell us anything about season 2? Because, like, your character has been through some shit.
Lily: Oh man, she has been through a lot. One thing I will say is that it’s not over yet, unfortunately, for Isobel. The first couple episodes are gona see her having to deal with the aftermath of what happened last season so, you know finding out that her husband was evil and an alien and using her body to commit murders was bad enough, there is unfortunately more to come for Isobel, it gets worse before it gets better. But the good news is, it does get better. I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, which I’m thankful for as an actor ‘cus the first couple of episodes back I’m just like “oh, oh we’re like getting right into it!” I thought maybe, maybe there would be a 6 months has passed, and she’ll have had some time to recover, like no we’re jumping right back into it the moment we left off season 1. So you guys are going to be able to watch Isobel having to deal with terrible things after the last season. Um, it’s going to be really juicy, there’s going to be of course the like, romance and drama, but I think at first it’s just - we’re going to be seeing these characters just reeling from all the things that happened at the end of last season. It’s excellent! All of the scripts coming out, I just, we’re starting to get into episode 6 right now, and I just read the script and I was like [throws herself back in her chair] I read it in one - it was like how I was reading Harry Potter, it was the same thing [mimes holding a script in front of her] where I just opened it and I would walk around like, making myself toast and going to pee, and going to the movie theatre I’m like [gestures] couldn’t put it down so. The writers are doing an incredible job, and it’s so good to be back. We’re excited. That was a nice, short little sound bite I just gave you.
Interviewer 1: No! Totally! How do you explain that your husband is gone? Like, he’s gone. I’m gonna assume Isobel has friends, how do you explain like -
Lily: How do I say, yeah well he’s, he’s I think - you know he died, I think we’re gonna, there’s gonna have to be another kind of how these characters deal with explaining how my husband died and now he’s like, no longer there and we gotta, yeah. It’s another sticky icky for the alien siblings. Like how do we - what’s gonna happen with Max my god, I don’t know, if only I knew!
[interviewers laugh]
Interviewer 1: He’s here, that’s a pretty good sign!
Lily: He’s here, yeah, but he’s here as a grip. He’s here really just to help us move things from -
Interviewer 1: - how strong he was on set.
Lily: He’s very strong.
Interviewer 1: Who knew you could lift things? [??]
Lily: You know supposedly not as strong as you’d think. Looks strong, quite weak.
Interviewer 2: I do want to talk a little about just the sibling dynamic and sort of how Isobel used Max as this anchor in her life and now coming back into season 2 you’ve got the anchor that she really needs as she’s taking this journey is gone, so how are - um, how does that change the dynamic between Isobel and Michael because now it’s like you two are gonna need each other more than ever.
Lily: Absolutely. I think Isobel is a person who has always relied on outside forces, particularly men in her life, you know Noah and Max who were these - she had this kind of codependent relationships with these two guys, and uh, I think it prevented her from really knowing how to stand on her own. So now when we see her, have - suddenly being on her own, it’s one of these things where you’re just thrown into the deep end and either you sink or you swim. So I think Isobel this season is really just trying to figure out how she can survive. Um, she spent her entire life not knowing how to do it on her own. So it’s really empowering story and I’m so excited to be part of it. But for sure, with Michael, you know they always have this back and forth, they have this contentious love-hate relationship thing, they love each other so much and they also just give each other such a hard time and butt heads all the time, um, but I think this is going to, you know - we see that familiar dynamic where I think she needs him and she loves him so much, and also she’s like “Michael! You’re driving me crazy!” So we still get that, and I love the scenes I get to have with Michael Vlamis because we always start riffing, you know we get into it we’re just like [gestures], just have a little banter, it’s always very spontaneous, the two of us just like to go at each other and just sparr, that’s always fun. So there will be that kind of - the tenderness between Isobel and Guerin is great so.
Interviewer 2: Yeah, can you choose, I mean you said there was gonna be some heavy stuff so can you tease us any of the light stuff that’s coming on?
Lily: Any of the light stuff yeah well I think that, first and foremost there’s a lot that has to be delt with off the end of season 1. So once that stuff is kind of worked, you know [gestures] we’re kind of wading through all of that super charged emotional stuff, um, but the writers do such a good job of keeping humor alive. You know, these characters are going through literally super human, beyond human experiences um, but they still remain so grounded and funny and there’s still always moments of these characters of these - you see, some things between Isobel and Maria that was really funny, you know, little scenes that we see two different characters interacting that we don’t always get to see together and when they pop together it always makes for like a fun and unexpected kind of like surprise. Um, so there’s lots of humor in it, and I think that as things progress we’re going to see different relationships coming together that we haven’t seen before. That’s been really fun for me to get to do, to work with lots of actors that I haven’t had as much time with so I love that. It’s always so fun when we see characters that we don’t normally see together coming together. I loved the episode that I had um, with Michael Trevino, where he was - stabbed me in the heart. I hadn’t gotten to work with him too much before but Isobel and Kyle is like a really fun dynamic and it was just like sort of flirting with him and sort of giving him a hard time and it was just like [makes a face] so um, I think the writers do a really great job of making sure the audience will be laughing and having those moments of like “ahh yes!” you know, like as we’re going through the dense stuff. And then like get towards the middle of the season I think things really start to open up in a new way, that’s gonna be something to look forward to.
Interviewer 3: Since it is so dark at times, what do you think was the hardest scene to film?
Lily: Oooh. The hardest scene that I had to film which I - I couldn’t tell you about because it would be such a spoiler but it um. There was a week that I had of work that it just, it leveled me. As an actor you really hope that you go through these - that you hope that you experience it so you can do the character justice and really let that be, you know real, um, but it can be tough as an actor to have to go through these kinds of things too. One because you’re putting yourself into situations where you’re like “god I don’t wanna imagine what this - I don’t want to have to go through this” um. But off the top I mean definitely the feeling of just horror and betrayal at having been married to someone who was lying to you and using you and had these sort of evil motives. I think that ickiness of feeling like “this was the person that I trusted, this was my husband, I slept in his bed every night, we were married and he was lying to me the whole time” so, that was definitely was very dark playing off the top. Her processing that and realizing, “wait, wait, so everything that I thought was true, was a lie. And the whole time that I thought I was with someone, he was someone else.” So does that make it like a consensual relationship then? There was a lot of questions that came up that Carina and I were talking about, the implications of what it means to be with someone who was lying to you all the time so. [audibly shudders] Gotta shake that off. Take a bubble bath after those scenes!
Interviewer 2: I wanna know, can you trust Kyle?
Lily: Can you trust Kyle, I mean. Me personally, I feel like I trust Kyle. Don’t ask me because the writers have stuff that I don’t even know coming down the pipes, my instinct is like, I - I would put my money on Kyle before I put my money on other people because like, it’s the Valenti code. He’s got that Valenti code…[to interviewer] what’s that?
Interviewer 2: I think he’s a double agent.
Lily: A double agent, Valenti? Oh my god.
Interviewer 2: That’s like my theory, I get torn apart for it a lot.
Lily: Oh my god. I like that theory. I’ve never thought about this.
Interviewer 2: Sorry.
Lily: Oh my god. I need a bubble bath!
Interviewers together: Thank you so much!
Lily: It was such a pleasure talking to you guys, have a wonderful day.
Interviewers: You too.

Notes from my October Daye reread, #7 Chimes At Midnight. Or, "don't eat evil pie if you're planning to overthrow the government". Advanced spoilers, please read the books, etc.
Reminder right off the bat that sweet fashion disaster May used to be an eldritch horror of the night???
-the month name in her case seems to be a coincidence? (But like. How could a name like May Daye be a coincidence. Come the fuck on.)
-Goblin fruit is super yikes. Super addictive drug that inevitably leads to death?
- Tybalt and Toby domestic shit hell yeah
Tybalt: arrested for being horny on main
- Toby: let's visit the Queen, who demonstrably hates me, about the goblin fruit problem. What could possibly go wrong (spoiler: a whole lot)
-"i may be a composite of multiple dead people, but I'm not stupid" May is nonbinary, pass the fucking tea
-The Gang Overthrows the Queen
Quentin is such a good kid! Fuck!
-I just... love the characters and how they've developed over the series. Quentin is great, Tybalt is great, The Luidaeg is great... October has changed into a more open and less depressed person. It's great! I mean, everything goes to shit over the next 2 books, but we've come so far!
-Quentin getting extremely upset that The High King didn't notice the Queen didn't have a legitimate claim to the throne? Haha. Haha. *takes another shot*
-Quentin: we could just like... TELL the High King that shes not a legitimate ruler. Like we literally could just call him up and say--
Toby: he would probably kill us and how would we do that anyway
Quentin: *silently screaming*
Have I mentioned I LOVE the Luidaeg? Shes such a great character.
-the implication that tybalt's archaic speech is at least partially just to fuck with Toby is so fuckign funny god they're so cute
GOD...
-Quentin not quite bowing to Arden, or at least not as formally as the others. That's foreshadowing. God damn it.
- The Undersea: is relevant
Me: wow I knew we introduced all that lore 2 books ago for a reason
- "Princesses aren't exciting. I've met Princesses." I am so glad I am not ACTUALLY drinking every time Quentin's identity is foreshadowed, because this book alone would have killed me by now.
- everything: goes to shit
Me: ah, there it is
- Toby becoming instantly addicted to goblin fruit and forgetting 2 of the most important people in her life has me at a severe oof. :(
- fucking props to seanan for making pie legitimately threatening.
- October Daye patch 7.1 notes: due to balance concerns, toby has been shifted back to more human.
Gameplay effects: hair is brown again. blood magic effects and self-healing have been reduced by 75%. Iron resistance increased 75%.
-Theres a line about how Tybalt should have known better than to believe anything could have gone right for very long and. Yikes in context. Yikes with knowing Tybalt's backstory.
- fun lore with the Luidaeg offering to turn Toby into a Selkie to save her from impending death. Being like... technically the Selkie Firstborn. And how much doing that would actually cost. It's certainly something to file away for later because I don't imagine we would introduce a concept like that and then abandon it...
-SUDDEN HEAVY SETUP FOR BOOK 8 STUFF. SUDDEN BOOK 1 BEING RELEVANT. Why did Evening, some random noble, have a fucking ancient powerful artifact just kinda... randomly in her possession? INDEED.
- toby: Why does the name Eira Rosenhwyr sound so familiar?
Mags: Oh she's a Firstborn
Toby: Right, that definitely explains it one hundred percent. Time to not think about it at all ever again.
- TOBY I'm aware you're kind of out of your mind right now but surely you can see the aesthetic similarity between EIRA ROSENHWYR and EVENING WINTERROSE. Ajdjenskkelbsbd
- I fucking googled it and Eira Rosenhwyr translates roughly to "Snow Rose Evening" lmfao
- Mags, continuing exposition: yeah she always had this Snow White thing where like she never stayed dead for long
Me, considering book 1's central conflict and how Evening was described multiple times as Snow White: 🙃
- I really appreciate the fact that whenever Walther shows up in a book he pretty much saves the day in a major way just by making like. A potion
- toby: magic is weird. Candy made from my blood that temporarily curbs the effects of addiction? Right
Walther: you're dating a cat
-I forgot we learn The Luidaeg's actual name in this one???? "Yeah I'm Antigone what up"
-OH THATS WHERE THE "ANNIE" PSEUDONYM COMES FROM. God damn it.
-God I love Danny and his godawful expletives "Oberon's scrotum". God
- I haven't mentioned it too much but there are soooooo many good tybalt and toby moments. They have such a good and loving relationship. Boy I die
-there's a bit where Toby consumes some of the Luidaeg's blood for Reasons and gets a brief Luidaeg-POV flashback.. which shows the Luidaeg protesting Amandine abusing Toby as a kid. So even though they don't really meet until book 1, it puts her first unofficial appearance in a new context. Just some all powerful ancient sea witch checkin up on her niece at Safeway, y'know
- god the first Cu Sidhe shows up in this one and he just looks like a glam rocker who's also sort of a dog. Jesus christ
- they just act like dogs too and it is so funny. Fucking zero attention span, super excited and happy at being told they did a good job.
- arden: there's no way you're amandine's kid. She would never sleep with a human. Her husband would be pissed
Toby: ??? My mom isn't married?
(Oh boy that's gonna be a fun one)
AND, AFTER SIX AND A HALF BOOKS OF SOLID FORESHADOWING:
We get the Quentin reveal. The alcohol poisoning ceases.
-There's some real good irony in like. THE Crown Prince getting apprenticed to Toby, who is a member of Faerie's biggest underclass. And they become fucking BFFs over the course of the series. That's some good shit
👌👌👌some GOOD👌 shit right there
-God just going back there are SO many hints. I noted a lot of them on this series reread but some of my favorites are the real subtle ones. Like Quentin in book 2 being inexplicably amused when Toby orders him to do something.
- Like?? She makes the kid do chores. She's almost gotten him killed like half a dozen times. That's just some... premium good shit.
Well the book sums up that revelation pretty well lmao
- Did... did Arden just imply Toby's mom caused the 1906 San Francisco earthquake...? That is certainly something I either missed or forgot. How is that like even a thing
- The night haunts are cool as shit and I'm glad they're showing up as bigger players. And now we have setup for Toby owing them a favor. Delightful.
ME SIPPING THAT LUIDAEG LORE JUICE
- October Daye patch 7.1.8 notes: oh god we fucked up we fucked up changes reverted
-Blood magic CPR? Canon. Then again I'm pretty sure Toby was established using blood magic to resurrect someone in book 2. So. Book 2 is still relevant
God I'm such a sucker for this angsty shit. And of course this would be Tybalt's solution, considering his backstory. God. Fuck
-I like how they went from enemies to like ridiculously sweet and affectionate lovers.. but it's not 100% perfect, they still have arguments and disagreements. But it all comes down to them caring about each other. That's some good shit right there
- Dianda being a huge badass and just singlehandedly taking out six guards while iron poisoned. a good development.
- new toby power of literally stealing someone's powers by drinking their blood. We're going like full vampire here huh
- and The Queen... who we establish actually traded her name away... manages to escape. Wonder when she shows up again 🤔🤔🤔
- ok god the fucking short story epilogue is SO GOOD. Luidaeg POV!!! Luidaeg lore is always good but this is one of the only parts we have seen Amandine. It reveals that The Luidaeg literally has just been October's guardian angel for years, which explains why some all powerful sea witch just stumbles into Toby's life???. Amandine is a fucking brat. It foreshadows fucking... SOMETHING with the goddamn month names. And it sets up Eira. God next book is going to be so good.
- There are interesting parallels between Toby and her mom. Amandine was trying to turn Toby into a human for fucking years?? As some kind of shitty experiment? Almost succeeded until The Luidaeg intervened. There's all these lines about how Amandine had stolen centuries of Toby's life, how Toby would be defenseless and Faerie would still know who she was even if Amandine succeeded. What does this say about Gillian? Toby turned her completely human in book 4 to save her life. There's no way that's not going to come back in a big way.
-What. Is with. The month names. Seriously we have not had any new ones since 3 but that's still like 5 characters. I know there are several more coming in the next few books and I still don't know why the fuck lol
-This book was mostly the final setup for next book, which is an absolute fucking bombshell. Probably the best book in the series and that is saying something. I'm excited to reread it. But on it's own this one is a good read too... love that we finally got the Quentin reveal!! The horrific Queen is gone for now! Stuff!
#oh god the winter long is next. heaven preserve me#that one is gonna be a LOOOONG post#how am i going to limit it to 10 pics... i had issues with this one!

Part 1 of 4: Solution To Overcoming Your Mental Barriers and Cultivating A Winner's Mentality
The strange secret I learned from a Senegalese taxi cab driver in Manhattan that re-wired my brain and smacked me back to reality (these words of wisdom will help you finally put aside your fears and live the life of your dreams)
It started at 2 p.m. on Saturday in New York City, in the heat of August.
The blistering sun seemed to be piercing right through my skin, completely ignoring the fact that I was sitting in the backseat of a covered taxi cab.
I guess it didn't help that I was also leaning smack dab up against the window.
In any case, I was understandably not in a good mood.
The heat only added to the anger and anxiety boiling in my brain from being stuck in weekend Manhattan traffic, where a 15 minute drive can easily turn into a 50 minute nightmare.
For a moment, I even entertained the thought that a brisk walk would get me to my destination faster than this godforsaken taxi cab.
But alas, a walk would've taken me 40-50 minutes, and a long walk with luggage in tow in 95 degree heat just didn't sound all too appealing at the moment.
I did have to come to terms, though, with the fact that time was winding down fast.
I now had less than 15 minutes until my 2:49 p.m. train to Long Island left from Penn Station.
Missing the train meant missing a ride to a relative's wedding out on the island.
And this relative was also a friend from my youth, whom I hadn't seen in over 8 years at this point. Understandably, I had zero intention of missing the festivities.
So when my seemingly knowledgeable cab driver drove 2 blocks past 34th street, where we should've made a turn, I flipped out.
I unleashed a torrent of anger, directed solely towards him.
"HEY! You missed the turn!! I thought I told you I'm going to Penn Station and that I'm running late. Are you freakin' kidding me?!?!"
He replied, "Hey man there's some traffic that way since they blocked ---"
Before he could finish his sentence, I responded with:
"I don't give a shit what they blocked off. You probably have no clue what the heck you're talking about. Do you even know where Penn Station is??"
What happened next was akin to being backhanded by an angry Arnold Schwarzenegger, in his prime, hopped up on steroids.
My cab driver screamed back with a fervent zeal that I'll remember for years to come.
"HEY, you better calm down man. Why are you so mad?? You'll catch your damn train. And if you don't, then what? What are you going to do? Huh? Huh?? What's going to happen to you if you don't catch your train? Are you going to die? Is it the end of the world? What is it??"
"You're young, man. Just chill. Everything will be OK. Be happy. You're alive. Don't worry so much. So much goes wrong in this world. You never know what can happen, and you're going to drive yourself crazy for missing a damn train?"
"It's sad, but tragedies happen all the time. For all you know man, that train could crash and you could die. Then what? Then you'll have wished you didn't make it there on time."
"You just don't get it. Life isn't always so simple. You work so damn hard for a brand new car, and then you get hit by a truck when you turn the corner. You kill yourself over a girl that you love, and then something goes wrong, and she takes all your money. You lose everything. Every moment is a blessing. Work hard, be the best you can, help your family and pray. Just pray and accept that everything happens for a reason. If you miss the train, god has a reason for it. People run like crazy to catch their plane and then it drops out of the sky. Relax, be calm, be positive. Everything will be ok.
"And look, man. If you don't die in this crazy way, there is only one thing that will get you.
Stress. Stress is the killer."
Then, he ended with something that I'll never, ever forget.
"I saw this with my kids too. You just never know what will happen. I mean you can think life is so good, and you build a home with a beautiful wife and your kids. And then it all burns to the ground. You never know, man. Treat every moment like a blessing. Like it's your last."
I was floored.
I didn't know what to think of when he said that. I still don't.
I especially zeroed in on what he said last. I don't know for sure if the "house burning down" was just another of his examples, lost in the mix of the other points he was trying to get across.
Or if it was his reality.
And while I regret to say it, I do think that this last example was his reality. I didn't have the heart to ask further but, from the way in which he said it plus based on other things he told me, it seemed that he had lost his wife and children in a house fire.
And both at the moment, and even looking back now as I write this, I truly believe this man has seen some terrible, terrible things.
Beyond losing his whole family, I believe this man has seen more death and faced more pain than 95% of us.
That everything he loved and cherished was taken from him.
And that he realizes all he has left is himself, and the opportunity to be happy. The opportunity to enjoy life at the moment, and to treat every moment like it's his last.
What he told me about his background corroborates my understanding of his experience even more.
He told me that he originally was born in Senegal. That he was raised and lived there for quite a long time, and that he was married and had 2 boys there. And that he had now been in American for 25 years.
From what I surmised, he looked to be about late 50s, maybe early 60s. So I figured he had left Senegal in his mid-20s or early 30s. In my analysis of this conversation, I kept coming back to remember his use of the past tense at certain times. I especially cued in on him saying that he "was married, and had 2 boys in Senegal".
It hurt to hear this, and it hurts to look back at it now. But when I combine this past tense statement and the house fire example he gave me...a strong part of me thinks that sometime in his late 20s, before he came to America, he lost his wife and 2 boys in a fire. Otherwise, I am almost certain he would've said "I have 2 boys".
You see, behind the thin, wiry, gentle-faced Senegalese man, with curly, graying hair, I saw a man who seemed as if he had been to hell and back.
And this pain showed itself, at its greatest, during his long, powerful talk.
He was, at his core, a man who really wanted to be happy, and who really wanted to see other people happy.
And on this day, he just couldn't take seeing a young, 24 year old man like me being so stressed, worried and rushed to catch a train that may kill me for all I know.
His riveting story shocked me, and taught me an innumerable number of lessons. It was a divine miracle in my eyes to have the opportunity to hear this man talk.
This 30 minute cab ride turned out to be one of the most powerful moments of my life, and it has significantly impacted the way I think, talk, act, and live.
This man drilled into my head many things that I had heard hundreds of times, but could never apply...
He taught me that I really don't know what life will bring me, but that I will be OK in the end.
He taught me that life is a miracle, and it is something to be cherished.
He taught me to take nothing for granted, and to always be grateful for the people and things I have in my life, no matter how insignificant they may seem at times.
He taught me that I have to do my absolute best in each and every moment, and to be the best person I can be, both for myself and others.
And he taught me that everything will be OK, as long as I relax, be positive, and have faith.
That no matter what happens, I'll be OK. That when I'm facing an insurmountable task, or I feel like I can't do anything right, everything will be OK.
That there's no need to worry about things that are completely out of my control. And in doing this, I can let go.
I can let go of any pressures or insecurities, and just relax and do what I have to do to overcome my fears, follow my passions, and live the life of my dreams.
And in doing so, I can finally be happy, joyous, and free.
The way I see it, if a man who lost everything can still find a way to be happy, there's no reason I can't either, there's no reason you can't, and there's no reason anyone in the world can't. If we change the way we think, we can change our lives completely, even in the worst of circumstances.

70 Questions
Thank you @pinkhoodiemark for tagging me in this. I usually get so lazy to do challenges and this one was soooooo long but it’s kinda nice to reflect on some of these ☺️ also I’m pretty sure Emili has tagged me in at least one other challenge before and I wanna fulfill at least one thing she tags me in ✨
this is pretty long so if you really wanna get to know me you can read more under the cut
1. do you have a good relationship with your parents? it’s 50/50 we have our good moments and our very bad moments but sadly, even tho I’m an adult now, things haven’t changed.
2. who did you last say “i love you” to? my pets are pretty much the only ones I’m comfortable saying ‘i love you’ to. I say it to my cat Cloud the most.
3. do you regret anything?
Yes, lots of personal things. Lately I regret my major and not putting more effort in college.
4. are you insecure?
Like everyone I have insecurities but I try not to dwell on them or let them affect me cus I know that they’re insignificant and not worth it. Doesn’t mean I don’t think of them from time to time.
5. what’s your relationship status?
Very single, mostly because I’m not comfortable opening up to people and I’m still kinda struggling with my ‘identity’
6. how do you want to die? the most painless way possible? i don’t...really think about how i wanna die tbh
7. what did you last eat? some store bought chocolate cake I’ve been eating almost everyday 😬 I really need to stop, it’s not healthy
8. played any sports? no, never. i am very very unathletic. idk how i ever managed to run those 12 min miles in high school
9. do you bite your nails? not now but i did a lot as a little kid
10. when was your last physical fight? i’m not much of a fighter but most likely it was a fight with my sister or maybe my mom (don’t worry it wasn’t too rough) years ago
11. do you like someone?
define ‘like’
12. have you ever stayed up 48 hours?
i don’t think so, i think maybe 36 hours would be my limit
13. do you hate anyone at the moment? at the moment no, though I usually don’t feel hate towards people
14. do you miss someone?
i miss the company of someones
15. have any pets?
i have two cats, Maxx (an old lady) and Cloud (my soon to be 3 year old bby) and my sister has a yorkie Oakley (a terrorizer who won’t leave me alone) but since she’s hardly ever home and I’m always taking care of him he’s practically mine
16. how exactly are you feeling at the moment? i feel like I probably sound like a robot throughout all this, sorry I can’t express emotion unless it’s in all caps
17. ever made out in the bathroom? nope
18. are you scared of spiders? regular daddy long legs are fine but anything bigger than that get it away from me
19. would you go back in time if you were given the chance? I want to say yes because there are things I really really regret that especially affect other ppl but I feel like what’s in the past is in the past and I probably shouldn’t mess with it
20. where was the last place you snogged someone? no comment
21. what are your plans for this weekend? no plans!! my life is so boring since a bunch of my friends joined the military and moved away and some of my college friends have moved on with their life and I hardly see them anymore 😭 (i still have friends they’re just as boring as me)
22. do you want to have kids? how many? not really, i kinda fear having a tiny human growing inside me and giving birth to it. i think if i ever were to have children I’d rather adopt but even that sounds like a big commitment I might never be ready for
23. do you have piercings? how many? my ears have been pierced since I was a baby and I haven’t worn earrings in over 10 years but the holes never filled in
24. what is/are/were your best subject(s)? I was always good at english cus I was good at reading and bullshitting essays
25. do you miss anyone from your past? man, ok there was this one guy/friend who I always clicked with and we were kinda on and off for years but never dated and I haven’t seen him in a few years and I’ve kinda moved on but I still think about him cus we live in the same town and he has a really common face so so many guys I see look like him
26. what are you craving right now? guidance? an epiphany? motivation?

29. have you made a boyfriend/girlfriend cry? nope.

35. who was the last person you cried in front of? oh man I cried at work on Valentine’s Day cus we were unexpectedly crazy busy (you can’t even understand how busy) and it was just really stressful for me cus it was only me and another girl handling customer service and she got to leave early (she was a champ idk how she kept a smile on her face even when she left) and there was this especially rude lady I was on the phone with who just wouldn’t stop talking and pretty much blaming me so when the call ended I ducked down behind the counter and cried a little from all the stress (that lady was just the final straw) and I’m sure most if not all my co-workers saw
36. do you give out second chances too easily? I think so cus I don’t really hold grudges I’m too soft that way, but no one’s ever fucked up so bad they really needed a second chance with me

69. do you believe in soulmates? JJP ARE SOULMATES!!! they don’t have to ever get together but you can’t learn about their history and tell me they’re not soulmates (at least platonically) but honestly I strongly believe a strong force like fate brought all of got7 from 4 different countries together. So many trainees get switched around from company to company and either never debut or it takes them 7+ years but with GOT7 they debuted under their first company and their average training period lasted around 3 years. BamBam almost didn’t debut with them because JYP thought he was too young until YG’s show did an episode at JYPE. Youngjae would have never debuted if he didn’t practice and practice and continue auditioning for JYP. I could go on and on but in the end I truly believe jjp are soulmates and got7 are soulmates.
70. is there anyone you would die for? um idk maybe my family and pets but don’t hold me to that
I feel like a lot of my mutuals aren’t really on tumblr any more :// so I’ll tag a few who are still active @katbeom @yubgam @husbandsjjp (I haven’t seen you around in a while either!!)

Skyrim is such a fun game??? But also surprisingly emotional
it’s been more or less since the game came out that i played it. I don’t even know how many years but long enough for me to not remember anything but the literal first scene, so i decided, since we’re in quarantine and all, this would be the perfect time to start over and finally at least finish the main quest. back when i first played, my english wasn’t great so i didnt understand upgrading or taking random quests from random npc’s so i mostly went along where the lil white arrows told me to go.
NOW THO, i can upgrade weapons, gear, i can actually understand alchemy and enchanting, i can do as many useless quests as i want and i have the internet at my disposal in case i was too stoopid to figure out the next step myself.
Started out great, clicked the wrong button while picking a name and so instead of pressing the backspace button, i confirmed my male breton’s name as Prisoner, for the rest of the fucking game. He looks like a sweetheart tho who’s always confused, thin and wiry, ponytail, can’t grow a beard to save his life but he has a scar under his eye. He’s amnesiac, was arrested at the border, has no fucking clue what he was doing there.
I didn’t wanna think up a backstory, hence...
I immediately decided, fuck it, i ain’t fighting this civil war, I’m a breton, y’all nords do whatever the fuck u want. And i stayed with that. I briefly thought about choosing a side depending on whose point resonated with me more. Turns out, neither point is entirely valid. One side has no respect of history and culture, the other side is racist. So Prisoner was neutral for the entirety of the game. Neither Ulfric nor Tulius got any attention from this homie.
What did receive attention tho was the main quest and boi, i know everyone hates chosen one stories. And they’re right. But man, i love chosen one stories. And my baby boi is the dragonborn and he’s like ?????? And everyone is like “you defeat dragons and you are the hero everyone waited for” and my dude is like ????? Ok??? Sure?????? And he just goes to places and helps as many people as possible on the way.
Fuckin, the best thing was sideplots happening BY ACCIDENT. Prisoner goes on a quest to murder a shitty orphanage keeper, goes to tell the kid who commissioned him, he feels pretty okay about it. Then he gets The Letter. “we know” with a black handprint. And the shit that left my body at that moment, could’ve started a new nation. I mean, i had a 35 damage weapon at that point and i had slain my, what, fifth dragon at that point so i wasn’t worried about dying from assassins but THE INTIMIDATION WORKED.
LITTLE DID PRISONER KNOW that this would be the biggest emotional rollercoaster in the goddamn game, no lie. Being the chosen one, sure. Defeating dragons that will cause the apocalypse, no pressure. Become thane of a city, aight. But THEN I GET KIDNAPPED IN MY BRANDNEW HOME AND I WAKE UP IN A SHACK WITH A LIL LADY TELLING ME TO KILL ONE OF THREE PEOPLE. THE FEAR I EXPERIENCED... but then they recruited me, and they’re all really cute colourful characters and we’re assassins and we’re the black brotherhood and we kill people for a living but we’re a Family. And my baby boi character had yet to experience anything like that. Sure the greybeards are mentor-ish but Prisoner never lived up on High Hrothgar amongst the old dudes. The blades did a roadtrip thing which was fun but then they kinda just squatted in their new headquarters and sent Prisoner on his merry way. But this, they had a sleeping place and a dining hall and a lil garden and the werewolf man gave me insulting nicknames and there’s a little girl who says she’s a vampire and to this day, I’m still not sure if she was telling the tRUTH OR NOT.
AND THEN, AND THEN, the whole emperor thing happens, right, and that’s fucking hilarious. Prisoner with a chef’s head, i was cackling like a madman. And then AND THEN, THE BETRAYAL. ASTRID SAYS there’ll be a surprise up on the lil walkway bridge thing. And then there’s no one. AND THEN THERE’S SOLDIERS TELLING ME THEY’RE AMBUSHING HQ. AND I LOST. MY. SHIT. The thing wouldn’t let me fat travel either because the soldiers kept chasing me and i thought i was gonna have to ride Shadowmere all the way to the other side of skyrim, hysteric and worried about mY FAmILy. AND THEN i arrive at hq and there’s on of them PINNED TO THE TREE and like, guys. Guys. I was crying and full on immersion, i was like “nobody leaves here alive”, it was horrific, I didn’t do any of the stealthing, i just ripped them apart with my draugr greatsword, i already leveled up to the point where i cut my enemies’ heads off, it was glorious. It was so emotional, seeing werewolf man get killed, HE GAVE ME INSULTING NICKNAMES OKAY, and then finding Nazir and then hiding in a fucking coffin with a corpse who’s then like, trying to sooth me?? it was so emotional and i was crying tears of goddamn grief, i was Prisoner and Prisoner was me. The line between fantasy and reality: gone. I had spent HOURS upon DAYS on this game at this point, there was no going back.
hoo
..
So then i killed the emperor, and the reacting of the land was “...hm?” And i killed the general captain dude personal, like, optional my ass, i was gonna murder that shithead optional or not.
So i bought a house. In whiterun. It’s called breezehome (that’s not a choice) and I instantly decided if i ever get my own place, I’m calling it breezehome. I really hesitated about getting a house, since Prisoner is a nomad and constantly on the road, plus, has a “””””home””’”’” with the blades and other places in other quests. But then i decided it takes too much frigging effort to get all my loot sold cus all the pawnbrokers are pawn broke (HAH) and i can only sell them like a few gems and that’s it. And i needed a place to store all that shit, plus, i was going nuts from my collection of keys on my person aaaaaand i needed like a drawer to chuck em all in. And so that’s what i diiiiiiid. I later got the place in solitude too to finish the thane quest there but i literally only used the mannequins in the basement for my brotherhood and nightingale outfits. Which i both have worn literally once and then i just went with my guild outfit. 46 armor is good fuckin armor and the best i owned the entire game. Added some fire resistant shoes and suddenly dragons were super easy to defeat. I also found dragonbane somewhere, i literally only used it to wack dragons when they run aground. Otherwise i switched between a bow and a greatsword, both with the power of stealing health. Glorious. I was invincible. Well, with that and the power of Strategically Running Away.
I thought it was weird my guy never got the choice of being a leader of literally anything. I mean, thane is an honorary title so you can do whatever you want and not get shit for it, like the privileged fucks we all are, but arch-mage when i only entered the school like last week? Head of the thief’s guild after going on 2 assignments, one of them being the chasing and murdering of the previous one? Never got the choice, was just like “you’re perfect for that” and me “‘I’m LITERALLY the least qualified person im this entire province!” Also i has a flute on my person at all times, bard’s college never taught me how to play it, the bastard’s, all they did was send me on errand in dusty cAVES. AT LEAST IN ASSASSIN’S CREED YOU HAVE TO CHASE THE SHANTIES IN ORDER TO PERFORM THE SHANTIES.
Then the husband thing.
I knew there was an option to get married and adopt. I don’t want kids, in game or out. But i am disgustingly lonely (especially after the massacre of the black brotherhood) in game or out, so i looked it up and SURE ENOUGH, SAME SEX MARRIAGE IS DELISIOUSLY LEGAL IN SKYRIM, OH BLESSED DAY. Things i learned with this: i cannot handle flirting. It was cute and Prisoner and Falkar are adorable but I CRINGE, A LOT.
Honestly, the most i personally had with this was envisioning Prisoner finally leaving for Sovngarde (after putting it off for as long as possible) and giving his final goodbye to his brand new husband like, caressing each other’s cheeks and holding each other’s shoulders, “i promise I’ll be home again soon” “and if you don’t, i will find you in sovngarde” “keep the hearth warm while I’m gone” “keep your sword sharp, you always forget to redo the enchantments” “‘don’t neglect the companions just because you wanna housewife” just sacharine as. Fuck. They were in bed togeher the night before, just talking about useless shit and holding each other t was very PG. And then after defeating Alduin, Prisoner finds himself back in Skyrim, relieved that it’s all fucking over at long fucking last, and he climbs on Shadowmere’s back, tired, and rides back home. When he arrives in Whiterun, tired and weathered, he spots Falkar just returning from a mission, he’s also travel weary and just unlocked the door to breezehome. He spots Prisoner and Shadowmere entering through the gates. They pause, they look at each other like they’ve been apart for years instead of days. Falkar drops his back, Prisoner gets off the horse and suddenly they’re running towards each other, till they smack together and they’re just holding each other, it’s the best hug ever.
Aaaaand that’s kinda where i left it. I have more companion missions but i physically can’t get myself to do them because i feel the story is over, there’s no point. I can also still pick which side of the civil war i wanna take but it would be extremely out of character now. it’s weird, i feel like crying again. I invested so much time in this story and these characters with so little effort. Cus usually, writing my own stories, it takes effort to develop and build them. Here, all i had to do was make choices and kill the bad guys. And I don’t want to say goodbye even though i feel like there’s nothing more to add.
