alright i'm a little late to the current round of @spnficrecfest. on account of I Hauve Covid. that's also why i missed the long fic / short fic round, and i will go back and do that at some point, but not yet. anyway. two fic rec lists for this round. one for true aus, and one for canon-a-little-to-the-left aus.

so can i confess something? i'm actually only about halfway through reading this, currently. which i feel like is against the spirit of a fic rec list. i thought of trying to put on a burst of speed and finish it specifically to rec it, but it's simply too long for that. and i just can't not rec it, it's way too good.

anyway, this fic is balls to the wall insane. perfect "what if the early seasons actually had the vibes they pretend to" story. specifically, kind of a "what if born under a bad sign was good and also was the entirety of seasons one and two" thing.

sam never made it to stanford, and when dean goes to pick him up, he isn't there. the level of gore and body horror in this fic raised my eyebrows, and you guys know me. i'm no slouch. half is dean pov, half is sam pov. the sam pov is actually my favorite because it's so insane and fucked. oh and it's also destiel.

Idk though I’ve been going through a mini crisis with my writing LMAO because even though logically I know I have done this to myself, and that it’s just the way this particular fic is working out, it’s hard to feel like all you do is write write write and get no where. 😔 Like izuku pt. 2 is currently standing at 31k and I’m both so close to finishing it and so far away from the end, too. 🥺 idk. I just feel like i have nothing to offer bc every single word i have in me is going to like, this or the regency fic!! I wanna do fun drabbles or whatever, i wanna do fun things reeeeee!!! instead I feel like I’m inside during the summer holidays with like, extra homework, while the neighbourhood kids build themselves lil go-carts and forts and lemonade stands and I have to watch them come trekking back in the afternoons with their hats filled with like, idk, mulberries they found down beyond the creek or something. 🥺

and it’s even MORE stupid because i do this to myself by writing these chapters like this!!!! 😡😡😡😡 like Mum’s in the background going, “you know you can go outside right…?” And I’m like “NO, I wanna get this done before school starts!!!” 😡😡😡😡 stupid. It’s fine. We all make our choices and I don’t regret the way I do things for all my sulking. It would just be easier if I was faster!!! 😭😭😭

He supposes Dan’s just taking it slow, trying to come to terms with his sexuality and so on. It’s okay.

On the other… Dan doesn’t know they are dating. He has a longtime crush on Phil that he thinks is unrequited, despite their mutual rather romantic and domestic behavior.

WIP Headcount

I’ll do my regular wordcount post tomorrow (and a little extra to round up the year) but I thought the last day of the year was a good time to do a little WIP headcount because, surprise, I have far too many of them.

I’ll only talk about Shadowhunters WIPs in this post, and do another post for the other fandoms. The word counts are the current wordcounts, not the final ones.

And to make it more fun, send me an ask with one of them and I’ll tell you more about it or give you a snippet.

take me back to the start: 3x19 AU where Magnus erases his memories of Alec after their breakup. Chapters 1-4 are done. I’m sort of struggling with the last part of it, but I think that’s mostly because I’m struggling to focus in general. (23k)

straight through the smoke: Malec Secret Santa gift that got long. Alec is accused of high treason by the Clave after Magnus breaks up with him and raises wards around the city. Two chapters posted, chapter 3 in progress (ie I’ve got a whole two lines of it). (6.5k)

the time we've been given: Malec Arranged Marriage AU, with wheelchair user Alec. My main WIP at the moment. Chapter 9 is in progress (for real, I promise, it’s almost done). I think the story somewhere between 1/3 and half done. (31k)

sparks filled with hope: Mutant AU. After the fall of the NY Institute, with Idris in lockdown, Alec and his siblings find themselves stranded in New York on their own. They’re forced to reach out to the Downworld for help, and specifically to New York’s most powerful teleporter, Magnus Bane. 7 chapters are written (28k) and it’s maybe 1/4 through.

Holding Angels: Post season 2, Alec confesses to making Raziel’s Wish to revive Jace instead of Clary, and he’s arrested and taken to the Guard. I used Whumptober prompts for this one and ended up making it too angsty. I have two chapters (11k) mostly written but I need to rewrite most of it.

The Lightwood Home for Queer Children series: I wrote the first part as a bunny thanks to a challenge. I intend to make it a real series but for now I only have vague ideas.

Hurt Alec (2.4k) and 1x07AU (1.5k) are both abandoned. I will probably use some elements of them again, they were both heavy and gratuitous Alec whump.

Blind Alec AU: Human AU where Malec were together in high school and Alec enlisted while Magnus left for college, and they meet again years later (400).

Soulmate AU: AU where soulmate marks are words that the other person uses to identify themselves. I started this for my secret santa before going in another direction. I don’t know if I’ll go back to it (1.5k)

Dance AU: Human AU where Magnus is a ballet dancer and Alec is part of a circus. Alec gets injured before an important show and Magnus has to replace him. For my bingo square Dance AU. (400)

Nonspeaking Alec: AU where HoH Magnus meets 11yo nonspeaking autistic Alec. It will be a series, probably, of their meetings over the years.

I also have two prompts left in my inbox (not counting the 500 followers celebration asks that aren’t for full fics) and two other prompts I said I would write.

I think that’s all of them! The rest are ideas that don’t have enough substance to be considered WIPs yet.
