My New TADC AU: The Darkest Night

TW: This AU is dark. It goes over dark themes such as: sacrifice, cult themes, death, grief and more.

This will most likely be my only post about this AU due to its nature. This AU is NOT made to praise cults or cult leaders, but rather just an AU based off of my interests. (I have studied cults for fun for years. It was a hyperfixation of mine for months on end, they are fascinating to me, I in NO WAY condone the actions of cults, all cults are inherently evil.)

"Join the cause Pomni. The Brightest Star awaits you."

The Circus Town has been a long running village, all members looking inhuman, led by a man who lacks all features but a set of teeth and two eyes. It seems that those who move into the town have a special connection to a deity only referred to as "The Brightest Star" who granted them such forms.

Pomni was a police officer investigating the village disappearances when she was ambushed by an unknown entity and forced to seek refuge within The Circus Town. Almost as soon as she woke up her first morning, all the current residents visited her. Her uniform had been removed in her sleep, as Ragatha (the one housing her) had dressed her in proper attire while she rest.

Then she met him.

He was like a monster that only the depths of hell could produce, a being that has never known of humanity. His voice was gentle and soothing, like a serpent readying itself for the strike.

Pomni became his next unwilling subject, convinced that because they helped her heal through her injuries, at the very least she could watch a "ceremony." This ceremony was the ritual that bound Pomni to her new, inhuman form.

Meeting The Brightest Star, the deity gives Pomni a new identity as a jester, seeing through her mask and discovering the person she really is beneath the cop persona. It is also a prophecy that The Brightest Star gives to her, insinuating that Pomni will be the one that will bring The Circus Town to its knees.

This isn't without it's trials though.

In order to become one of them, Pomni has a tough process of attempted brainwashing as Caine's hands. She endures the verbal assault of Jax, the body dysmorphia that Zooble would wish upon nobody, and above all, the constant reminders that there is no way back to her previous form, and that she'd become an outcast if she left.

It was only two months later that Caine saw Pomni unfit for the town, and tried to have her sacrificed to The Brightest Star.

This... is where we are now.

i've died on smaller hills, so i can't judge. but i do think it's funny whenever posts about the proper definition of a poor little meow meow circulate, considering none of them mention that the origin was a kpop fan's absolutely bonkers tweet about not being able to protect a full grown man who was getting backlash for including audio from the jonestown cult leader jim jones in one of his songs

Was thinking about trod Narinder being secretly in love with Lamb the whole time and the fact that Narinder most definitely has trust issue and fears of being mortal now

So with those two trains of thought combined, I wanted to explore… other hidden feelings he might have towards the lamb… 👀💧

I'm listening to an episode of the Cults to Conciousness podcast about gay erasure in Amish & Mennonite communities and one interesting thing one of the guests (a bi woman) brought up is that sometimes conversion therapy doesn't look like overt violence and attempts of sexuality conversion (although it does happen), because especially queer people in the social role of girl/woman in such communities will often simply not have their queerness acknowledged at all. The conversion therapy for this guest was when her father walked behind her and corrected her so she'd walk like a "proper lady", it was corrective rape and it was forced marriage, something she just barely escaped. Sometimes the conversion therapy is covert, like your community pushing you into marriage and having children so you'll be too busy to think about your sexuality, gender, freedom and self-actualization. It's not what we think of when we hear the term conversion therapy, but it's still violent, oppressive and has the same end goal.

One of the things that deeply hurt her was when a sociologist, an outsider, wrote about her community and declared that there were "no gay people" because there were not allowed to be any. It made her feel so unseen and even more like she shouldn't exist.

I can definitely see the parallels between that and how trans people have been treated historically and how trans stories are still often erased.

To believe that there are/were no LGBTQIA+ people in certain communities and time periods is to believe that conversion therapy, in any of its forms, works (which it does not).
