Airtel Nigeria Donates Modern ICT Centre to Ijebu Community

Airtel Nigeria, one of the leading telecom brands recently donated a modern ICT centre to Ijebu community in Ogun. The donation is part of the brand’s CSR initiative, ‘Airtel Touching Lives’. Airtel Nigeria donated a fully equipped ICT centre to the community. They donated over 30 brand new computers to the Ijebu community. The computers are very modern and they are riding on Airtel’s robust 4G/LTE network.  The telecom brand donated the centre to help empower the members of the community. According to the brand, it was designed to foster digital learning and give the community unfettered access to information.  The telecom brand hopes the centre will usher in a new wave of innovation for the community in today’s technology-driven world. Airtel Nigeria is very excited to offer opportunities that will help uplift communities, empower young people and transform lives. They believe that an ICT centre is critical to the success of a community and the development of both young and old because it offers a passport to the world. Hari ini bareng teman-teman seperjuangan sosial, buat kenangan yg tak terlupakan, berkunjung ke Yayasan Al Fajar Berseri asuhan Pak Marsan (kopiah hitam, tiga dari kiri) mantan supir andong dulu. . Pak Marsan mengurus 224 manusia dengan disabilitas mental alias gangguan kejiwaan, laki dan perempuan. Beliau mulai melakukan sejak tahun 1992. Baca deh sejarahnya di internet . Sehari di Yayasan ini butuh 100 kg beras, jadi 3 Ton sebulan dibilang cukup. . Susah diomongin pake kata-kata tapi pelajaran berharga hari ini kita dapetin, jaga kesehatan mental, hindari stress dan berbagai tekanan hidup, selalu percaya bahwa kita punya Allah SWT tempat kita mengadu dan memohon perlindungan . Jangan dibawa berat ya mikirin kehidupan, banyak ketawa bareng teman2 dan dibawa santai aja :) . Btw, ada yg terketuk mau bantu Pak Marsan? How CSR can make a perceptual difference to a tea brand

There's a saying that rules make the game. A change in the rules changes the entire game. In a sport, smart players analyze the rules to see how to acclimatize their game to win. In business, it should be no different. In an era where CSR as become an integral part of corporate strategy, to important questions have been raised: 

(a) What should be the strategic direction of our CSR from our area of competence?

(b) What’s the best we can do for society?

Ideally, the preference of CSR should be aligned with the corporate strategy. This means being resourceful enough to serve both, the society and business needs at the same time.

Being caught up in global competition has led to develop new strategies to sustain their bottom lines, draft smarter solutions to their most pressing issues, and to build and safeguard both their reputations and their revenues.

If a company wants to look at how it can get good value by investing in CSR initiatives, they should look at aligning such activities with their brand. A strong brand offers many different commercial benefits varying from the ease of acquiring good talent at reasonable costs, to customer loyalty, to better terms of trade and so on. All these mixture of benefits transform into profitability and better valuation. This makes it a better choice than investing into a single dimensioned area that may not have such a powerful impact on the business.

Considering the tea plantation sector in Sri Lanka, the plantation workers have long been one of the most exploited workforces. They have for generations endured sub-standard living conditions and their wellbeing was an underpinning factor in the crusade to market his very own home-grown brand of 100% pure Ceylon Tea. 

Dilmah is renowned for its powerful brand oriented CSR. Education in the community of plantation workers is an area that is of particular concern to the Founder and on which he has placed a special emphasis. They have been deprived of accessing higher education and the numbers that have gone on to receive University educations have been shamefully below the national average. Such a damning statistic demonstrates the endemic lack of opportunities and resources that have systematically impeded them from accessing higher education. In rectifying this anomaly, the MJF Foundation set up a scholarship scheme and improved facilities in plantation schools. 

Therefore, a sizeable focus of the fair trade tea companies and ethical tea manufacturers’ CSR initiatives revolve around the plantation industry and the uplifting of its workers. Tea manufacturers, who do not become accustomed to this concept, those who merely consider exploiting them to the fullest while poorly treating their plantation workers, will pay the price, giving one more reason why a business entity should also be a responsible corporate citizen.
