does anyone know if it's worth buying the expensive proprietary cables so i can connect my huion 13 art tablet to my phone and draw in bed with ibis paint? im unfamiliar with ibis and how it controls, and i wanna know if it's a worthwhile investment as im used to CSP and all my brushes are set up in that. im absolutely miserable that it's so difficult to get to my desk, and im stuck in bed so much and i need an art solution

Hi I really like your art! I'm sorry if someone has asked you this before but do you use a tablet to draw? I wanna get into digital art and don't know much
Tumblr media
Hello! I use a Wacom tablet since 2018. From all the tablets I've tried out already this one is the best for me. (Stylus doesn't need any batteries/charging, tablet is just connected to your PC by usb-cable + small size of the tablet itself is really comfortable for me.).
If you want to get into digital art my only advise is to go for a better app than SAI from the very start. I got used to the simplicity of SAI too quickly and it's hard for me to get used to something more complex like Clip Studio Paint or Photoshop, although it would help me to improve much quicker. I use Krita sometimes for animations or landscapes drawings, because it has simple interface yet it's almost as full of brushes and other cool functions as CSP.
yeah sorry for a lot of text I just want to say a lot because drawing is a biggest part of my life and there are many aspects worth mentioning :"""]

… :) Hi. My friend said I should make an animatronic OC into a character you would see in the Security Breach Ruin DLC. boy did I have fun forcing myself to figure out Rain’s internal mechanisms 😵‍💫 (more info below the cut :)) But genuinely I absolutely LOVE rendering; I’ve never actually been more detailed in a piece like this tho. I’m improving! :D
Little timelapse for you too, since I decided to test out the feature on CSP :V
This is what Rain originally looked like! (Post here)
Tumblr media
Internal Mechanisms
There are two wheels beneath her dress on either side of her where her “shoulders” would be from which wires are dispensed, creating “hands” that are useful for grabbing things that are hard to reach. She was designed to only let out wires individually; however, in her Ruined form, the central cylinder containing the wires that feed into her spools has unscrewed from the bottom and burst through the front panel, allowing more wires to spill out. I was going to have some of the cables frayed in some places, causing an electric hazard, but I was too lazy to draw something like that.
Her head is intentionally split into three pieces for venting out heated systems. A small rectangular shape can be seen along the edge of the unhinged piece; this is where the plates latch and unlatch. You can hear them clicking, locking and unlocking, when Rain has to think really hard. She may be “right as rain” when doing her job, but in interactions outside of childcare, she has proven to be pretty inept, overthinking and overheating easily. You may notice how her hair is burnt in a line where her face is split. Her processors, memory, local data, cooling fans, battery, and the like are built strategically along the inside of her head, while giving room for some extra long-reaching wires to be stored inside behind the framing for her LED eyes.
In her Ruined form, Rain’s legs are missing. Normally, her leg joints sticked out from pathways along her central cylinder. One around the circumference allowed her to spin her body while keeping her feet in place, while two along the sides allowed her to store her legs away (think of Eve from Wall-E), normally to enter rest mode, though she also uses it while active to sit down. Her dress touches the ground and gives her the appearance of an adorable chess piece.

PC's back!!! time to reinstall everything again and try to setup stuff like csp and obs. honestly though, this past month i've been more thankful for firefox than anything else. I love how everything is there right the way it was as long as i log into my account no matter what device q_q ♥ firefox continues to be the real mvp.
on an entirely different topic, i heard today that the most affordable and oldest local chinese place has changed ownership very recently. I gotta order some of my usual stuff and see how it is. by the sounds of it so far people seem very pleased. (secretly wishing that they would add more spicy dishes but that's incredibly rare here bc they gotta cater to locals ;; ) Once i have everything installed I am going to play so much Cryptmaster. I've watched some of it but since its riddles and such i didnt want to spoil myself too much but i've been wanting to play it so badly!!! its gonna make me feel so dumb but at least i will be rummaging in my english vocabulary a lot, lmao.
I should be getting some new cabling stuff and the room decorations this week, so I'll have to take a day to move furniture to get drilling the walls and figure out a neater way to install my cables under my desk. Not to be dramatic but i feel like i can live my usual, slightly less uninteresting life again. YIPPEE

So this is my setup for the last week or so
Tumblr media
Kinda hilarious, but I just wanna record how I draw for this week. More below if you're interested.
Last week my original laptop broke, and before it was repaired I only have a laptop borrowed from my lab. I don't wanna install big programs / drivers on it, especially CSP which requires switching devices. So I ended up using CSP on android phone. (I don't have an ipad so. yeah.)
You see, CSP on android is extremely good for an art program on phone:
Has exactly the same functions as desktop version. (Literally can do everything I wanna do just like I'm using desktop version)
Supports keyboard shortcuts if you attach a keyboard on it. (Other programs either don't support keyboard shortcut at all (e.g., medibang etc.) or are very very limited (e.g., Autodesk Sketchbook, basically only has shortcuts to swap to last brush or undo/redo))
Free to use for 30 hours per month. (Perfect for me because I don't even have to pay that $0.99/month subscription)
Have extended settings for phones. (e.g., you can set different actions for fingertip and tablet pen. I set fingertip to pan and tablet pen to draw (duh) when I didn't have a keyboard)
With a keyboard, tablet, USB hub and OTG cable, it can provide almost the same experience for me... with the screen size being its only problem tbh.
But I don't wanna waste that free 30 hours since I need to use this setup for at least 7 days. I ended up delegating the draft part to Autodesk Sketchbook. Almost no keyboard shortcut for basic functions: you have to use pan / zoom / tasso / transform by finger, but it's good enough for drafts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't really know how this might help you, but seriously if you have a tablet and a OTG cable it is already not a bad media to draw. With a keyboard it's basically the same as the desktop version. I guess it's a feasible choice for very specific scenarios.

What app do you use to draw????
i use clip studio paint! and i draw on a surface pro 8 :)
both of those are sorta pricey supplies/programs though, so i feel like i should mention that before i used csp, i drew in krita (which is a free art program last I checked) and used one of those $150 screenless intuous tablets that you attach via cable for like...8 years or something.

Hello! May I ask the program/tablet you use to make digital art? Do you have any recommendations for people looking to get started? Thank you
I use XP-pen 12 pro, a Dell laptop, and Clip Studio Paint pro! (I got my tablet on a black Friday sale a few years ago so it was half the price tho)
mine has a screen and all but im not even using it, and if you're just getting started, i would recommend you get something on the lower price range - i've also been using my roommate's Huion tablet for a while and it is just as good, it only took me some time to get used of not looking directly at what i'm drawing. Take your time if you're going to buy a tablet and look at different reviews on them, and also, make sure they're compatible with your computer (i can't use the screen on my xp-pen tablet because the cable for it can't fit in my new laptop lmao, it still works but the screen is useless)
CSP can be pretty expensive so if you're a beginner, i'd suggest you try out some of the free to use programs that are out there! personally i got into digital art with Ibis Paint X that i had on my phone, you get that on google's appstore and it's mostly free to use. Then there are FireAlpaca, Krita, Paint Tool Sai, ect ect, and i did use most of them at some point; they all have their ups and downs so it's probably a good idea if you just go out and play around with them until you find one that sticks
I can only speak for Android and Windows products, mind you. I can't say anything for Apple but i have heard good things about Procreate

holy shit i’ve just had the most earth shattering but also the stupidest fucking revelation about my art tablet. like imagining just looking at myself like Really. it took you this long to realize this.
Ok basically i’ve really struggled with getting into using my digital art tablet. like i bought it, fiddled with it, have drawn a few things here and there, but overall it’s constituted like less than 10% of my total art practice in couple years i’ve had it now. Mostly because i’ve found it weirdly exhausting to use.
Setting it up is kind of a pain bc it requires taking down my monitor and switching out a couple of annoying cables. dumb but nothing too bad. Art programs also tend to overwhelm me but i’ve found a comfort zone with CSP that’s helped a ton, but still, i just literally get tired of drawing weirdly fast compared to drawing on paper which doesn’t feel like it takes any energy at all. i tried reorienting and organizing my desk to allow me to sit more comfortable and keep my arm supported, i’ve practice relaxing my arm and wrist and doing exercises, and i made a lot of progress bc i did end up solving a lot of my arm fatigue i was getting, but not the general fatigue. i thought it was just a me problem until literally a few minutes ago, i realized what was really going on. i needed to just. fucking tilt the tablet back flat. that’s the key difference i’ve been experiencing but couldn’t put my finger on. i draw with a notebook flat on my desk, and have forever. But as part of setting up the tablet, i just defaults to tilting it upward because that just felt like one of the steps to setting it up. i never questioned it to myself or ever thought about it too much. this whole time Not realizing that drawing at that angle is just not comfortable for me to do and switching it down cinched every remaining problem i had with comfort. Literally just. putting the shit Down. what is wrong with me

what stuff do u use for ur art :0 (like apps and tables)
I use clip studio paint! And I use a Boston drawing tablet! It's pretty big, however I might need a new one as the screen from my computer doesn't pop up on my drawing tablet, therefore I might need a new cable, but it still works! For now it just works as a big ass Wacom 🤔
I also use two brushes in csp called "imi" (for sketching/lineart) and "muffin" (for colouring and rendering!) However I can't get a picture of what the brushes look like rn, I haven't been using these brushes lately though because I've been trying out new ones! I'm trying to dig out different kinds of styles :)
But if you look further down at my art before I got into Ninjago, you can see the brush being used if it has that vintage texture in the lineart! Here's a example of the two brushes being exclusively used in my artworks:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The brushes are in the csp brush store/catalogue, and they're free! I've liked the vintage crayon-textured brushes that you can clearly see in some people's artworks and I've been trying to find some of those brushes! It's been a long search, but "imi" and "muffin" are close to that description! I just gotta learn how to make my own brushes to achieve a brush that I want..
If you don't use csp, I'm sure other brushes in free programs like medibang paint, ibis paint and Krita, have a similar brush set to the ones I use (like a pencil brush!) I have used Krita sometimes with my MLP artworks! Krita is good too, they have great brushes to render and colour with, plus their advanced colour wheel is super helpful! :3

i love when i go to open csp to draw lyre for the 2000th time and my tablet pen, as if sensing this and knowing the charging cable is too short for me to charge it and draw at the same time, dies on impact
