I’m honestly bummed the fact that Wayne (and possibly by extension Raj?) wearing a cup the entire show never came up after episode 1. Like during episode 7, he and Raj get beat up by a cassowary, fall down a mountain (and survive) and Wayne just weakly goes “good thing I’m still wearing my cup!” and passes out. Perfect bookends for his time on the island. Also because I know guys who unironically wear a cup in normal settings.

THOUGHTS ABOUT ACGAS SERIES 5 (that nobody asked for…)

First, I love the show. I love its feel, its atmosphere, its decency and respect towards people and animals alike. I love the actors and all those who contribute to give us such lovely 7 hours of joy every year. And I’m really happy that so many people enjoyed S5.

I really want to be one of them. I started so positively, absolutely loving the warm feeling of the first 3 episodes. We had really great moments - James’s struggle and return, the emotional telegram moment, Audrey *wrenning* herself into a warden uniform (and Siegfried’s reaction to it), Mrs P being her wingwoman, Jenny looking outside the farm and Helen coming to terms with it, Jimmy(s) just being cute, Carmody in all shapes and forms, Tristan hugging people, the dogs (of course the dogs)… it’s really good to remember the nice bits 😊.

Sadly, once we got into episode 4, for me things started to go a bit downhill. The locked door antics were funny, but I found them funny in a clumsy way. It’s nice that Tris and Richard came to an accord, but it felt weak, not supported by an actual understanding of one another. The last 10 minutes of the ep were delicious, but a bit too little to sustain the whole thing. Still, I was hopeful. But going forward, I really struggled to find much substance, and I’m annoyed by that. Tris drinking and going out every night - apparently because he had a *good* war? From the show that gave us the intensity of Siegfried’s and Audrey’s traumas related to the WWI, it really felt weak and inconsistent. No mention of Edward (though I still hope it’s in a PBS cut). Audrey’s warden experience - not to mention the wonderful Jeremy Swift - was used just for some comic relief - this is the same character that gave us such a window into her emotional struggle last season. I could go on, but you get the idea. James and Helen’s story was first and last episode. They kind of disappeared in the middle, and while the last episode was brilliant for them, there was very little build up throughout that again, it felt inconsistent.

Also, I wasn’t hyped by the press highlighting the ship or annoyed by the insertion of Miss Grantley. If used well, it could have been brilliant, but it felt flat. We had Siegfried wearing his heart on his sleeve for ages (Sam and Anna’s performance at the end of the last series was a masterclass in things deeply felt and not said) and suddenly we have the last episode of the series in which they barely speak to one another, Siegfried’s pride hurt by Miss Grantley’s rebuff, Audrey holding the fort by being super housekeeper, each in their own “box”. The Farnon brothers’ walk was funny and superbly acted by Sam and Callum, but it didn’t give us anything new - I thought they were far beyond their squabbles, and their time together could have been put to better use.

I just think that it was a bit of a waste. A fun, light, frothy series ( and no, I didn’t want drama for drama’s sake) where the only resolved arc, for me, was Carmody’s. The other characters are still beautifully dangling without a resolution. They gave us great performances, tender moments, lighthearted laughs, but it kind of feels disconnected and childish. It wouldn’t have taken much (after all, they have given us so much for 4 and half years!) and yet.

I don’t know if the show and the writers are changing direction (I hope not) or there is something I missed (probably) or it’s simply a way to drag things along (mostly the ship, but not exclusively). I hope (eternal optimist) for a CS that will pick up all the threads left hanging and will put them beautifully together as in the past - just under the Christmas tree for us to unwrap.

And on the other hand, could this potentially mean more bird boy episodes? 🫣 (obviously it's fine if not especially since you're probably going to be busy creating the castle swimmer eps)

Yes I’m trying not to be bummed out about it because it is healthier for me in the end lol. I’m just used to working like a goblin and having a crazy schedule.

And yes there should be more wiggle room for bird boy updates now. Working on it has helped me not get burnt out on castle swimmer stuff. It’s like it gives my mind a break from the story so that I can jump into the next CS episode feeling refreshed.

I’ve reached a point in my life where every good thing is a result of me taking some form of break 😂 but I hope to stay productive and keep making good progress on both stories.

The most painful thing about Geto's story for me is seeing his change from the beginning up until the moment before his death.

Probably it's because I watched the flashback in its chronological order (Season 2 Ep. 1-5 --> JJK 0 Movie), so I could get a better view and feels of his transition.

When he was still a student, putting aside all the shenanigans he pulled with Gojo and his other friends, we saw Geto as someone logical and level-headed. He has ethics, morals, and responsibility. To put it simply, if there's someone in that world who understand "with great power comes great responsibility" the most, it would be Geto.

Even after the trauma of witnessing those cult members happily giving standing ovation to Riko's death, he was still level-headed. He was in a dilemma, he was depressed, he started to hate and question "why do I have to protect these people at the cost of my comrades/my own kin?" But he still retained his logics and level-headedness.

Even at the very last seconds before he snapped upon seeing Mimiko-Nanako being tortured by the villagers, he was still trying to speak and explain things to them instead of just instantly went on a rampage on the spot. Had those people not insist on slandering and accusing Mimiko-Nanako, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't explode and massacred the entire village.

To be honest, when I watched the movie, the Geto Suguru who has become a cult leader who hated all non-sorcerers looks like a fake personality to me. Everything he said and did was the exact opposite of all the principles and moral values he used to speak of in the past. Throughout the movie, I kept asking myself "huh, is this really the same person?"

But his "fake personality" here wasn't meant to deceive other people. In fact, for me, I feel like he's actually been deceiving himself into believing that this is indeed the correct path for his life, the one he had chosen, and the one best for him.

Why did I say this? Because actually, even when he was falling into depression and ended up a villain, his true/real personality never actually disappeared.

Geto is a very caring and nurturing person. When asked if he wanted a sweet or savory snacks as souvenir, he didn't think about what he himself wanted but "Oh, I have a friend who likes sweets and he usually gets some, as well, so better get the sweet ones."

Despite already "fixing" himself into the villain role, he still took care of Mimiko and Nanako properly. He was like, what, 17-18 years old when he met them and he actually raised them into fine, healthy, proper young girls — outside of their hatred for non-sorcerers (which was caused by their personal childhood experience, so that's understandable).

And this real personality of his finally came out again near the end of the movie right before he died, when there was only Gojo there with him to listen to him speak about what he'd truly been feeling all this time.

When Geto said there was no way he could truly be happy/smile from the bottom in his heart in this world, IMO it's his most honest feelings. Because no matter which path he took, his internal conflict would never disappear for as long as he lived.

In canon, he took the most extreme way of eradicating all non-sorcerers. But had he not become a villain like this, had he chosen to live "normally," graduating from school, becoming a proper Jujutsu sorcerer, perhaps becoming a teacher with Gojo, his dilemma would persist when watching his comrades and students getting hurt and dying to protect the ignorant non-sorcerers every day.

And I'm sure he has already considered that possibility, as well, at some point before his death.

Geto Suguru isn't the kind of villain who wholeheartedly believed that he is in the right. IMO, he educated Mimiko-Nanako and his family (Miguel cs) into believing in the "justice" of Jujutsu Sorcerer Supremacy more for himself, to convince himself over and over again to stay in the path he already chose to take. Because deep down in his heart, he knew that there are actually other ways he could take — but he is already too far gone to turn around (and it's not like choosing a different route will give a better result because as I've explained above and he himself said, he already knows that there is no way he can truly be happy in this world).

This is a character who only appeared for not even 20 chapters in the manga; he also only got like 5 episodes + 1 movie in the anime. But his depth, background, and personality is that solid and his presence is that strong despite only existing in Gojo's flashback.

Beyond ships and all romantic headcanons out there, to be honest, if there is no Geto Suguru, I think the current Gojo Satoru now would not exist.

Yes, Gojo may still become the strongest sorcerer. Yes, he may still become a teacher and fight for the good purposes.

But he wouldn't have come to that much realization just how rotten the morality, regulations, and bureaucracy in the Jujutsu world is, to the point that he decided to dedicate himself to that extent to raise and nurture a new generation of sorcerers who can bring change to that rotten world.

(Disclaimer: Obviously, this is my personal opinion, so no need to take it as the truth and it's perfectly fine if you think differently. ^^)

What an absolutely showstopping finale!! I'm so thrilled to liveblog it. This episode gets serious like no other episode really does before or since. Lets get started!

right off the bat this episode is pretty much unlike any other. they try to have a caper setup- the vile drive- but it's not long before we realize that EVERYTHING is gone. even in the last finale the sort of "caper" of the episode was rescuing devineaux. this episode is all about answers.

also. yes. "your silence is like thunder" is just. ough its such a good line

he isn't even surprised by the question he knew it was coming eventually

"if you run, I will find you." its not a threat its a damn promise. for older viewers its easy to draw the connection between the famous i will find you and i will kill you. it doesnt have to be said.

mm and carmen rejecting the offer to sit and be comfortable around him. she just can't

even in the flashbacks your can see so much of carmen in him its so great. its dishonorable, and everything carmen stands against, but she is undeniably her father's daughter

the plot for this flashback is so sophisticated its so so good. they treat the audience really well about it

misfits rewatch- 1x1 thoughts & rambles

-Alisha checking out Simon in the welcome to CS scene 👀 maybe there's always been an attraction lmao

-Every time the word freak gets mentioned, it pans to Simon 😭

-When the storm hits, Simon immediately with his phone out lol

-My DVD subtitles keep putting Simon: when Nathan's talking, and it's really bugging me lol

-Shame Gary got killed. It would've been interesting to see what would play out with the others and their dynamics. I think the others would've subconsciously paired him and Kelly together cause chavs. I do think if he had gotten a power, it'd have something to do with aggression. Something where it'd affect others, but not with touch like Alisha. For example, if he got irritated or aggressive towards someone, they'd be aggressive and wouldn't stop until Gary chilled himself out. We only see a glimpse of Gary, but we know he has some anger issues. With the others, their powers sort of give them the finger towards their insecurities. So I think Gary having to learn to control his issues or risk death would be a neat storyline... I honestly have a lot of thoughts about this topic; I might make another post.

-This ep, specifically the two scenes where Kelly is trying to see if they've felt weird after the lighting, and Simon's the only one to take it seriously. When he first says something, there's a glint in Kelly's eyes, and at that moment, I feel like Kelly decided that she and Simon have a bond and wants to sort of protect him.

-When Tony's having his freakouts, especially when he's doing it outside close to the rest of them… how can they not hear him??? lol? Maybe it's just because I tend to be hyper-aware of my surroundings, but I'd be bugging from hearing it haha

-God, Alisha's snarky remarks 😫 I miss early season Alisha when she still had flavour and wasn't watered down to girlfriend

-Nathan was so unnecessarily mean to Simon in the first ep. I get it during the second day of CS 'cause Nathan wants to deflect his feelings after his mum kicked him out. This ep really sets the scene for their dynamic, Nathan taking the piss and Simon fighting back (poorly, might I add), which Nathan finds amusing, so he keeps doing it 🙄 lol

-Kelly's really is that girl. Anyone else would've been booking it home rather than warning the others. (Out of the others, I think Simon might have warned them. Curtis, too, but would only do it so he could warn Alisha)

-When everything's going down, and Curtis starts talking about travelling back in time, Simon is clearly interested in the superpower talk… but also freaked out by the possibility of getting murdered.  

-When they find Gary's body and everyone else's reaction is entirely valid, and Simon's just there like 🧍👀🧐…little freak (endearingly)

-I felt so bad for Alisha when her power got discovered. Truly one of the worst powers. Curtis was just trying to comfort her, and then the power makes the already traumatic experience even more so.

-Thank you, misfits writers, for feeling the deep need to make sure Simon has some freaky taste. Thank you 🙏

-Simon and Nathan coming up with the plan.

-Nathan still dwelling on the piss thing when they're burying the bodies lol

-My DVD doesn't have the Lonely Souls montage 😭😭😭 awful

Finished the first 8 episodes of Stardurst Crusaders, I like journaling my thoughts as I watch so here they are:

The switch from BT to SC is really jarring. It feels like I'm watching an alternate universe a lot of the time. I think if I could rewrite one thing for the first two parts I'd get rid of hamon in favor of stands, stands are better as a magic system for me personally.

I'm really mixed on Joseph. I don't get why they changed the fun loving part of his personality, It would have contrasted well with the rest of the crew. I like his stand, he has used strings and ropes a lot of times before, it's versatile, suits him well. Also connects with Holly's stand.

I thought him being unbelievably racist was pretty funny. Seems in character tbh.

And uhh there were some situations where hamon could have easily fixed it, but we almost never see Joseph use it.

Jotaro is not... the most interesting character but he doesn't hamper my enjoyment of the show or anything. His solution to a problem is usually pretty simple, I actually kind of like that. (Because one issue i have with the first two parts is how contrived the fight scenes can get. What's more annoying is that the show thinks it's being clever. The fight scenes in CS are better written imo.)

Jotaro's personality meshes well with the rest of the cast.

I love Jotaro's (And Star Platinum's!) design. Something about it really clicks with me. It's the main reason why I like him. Jotaro's hat that blends into his hair, brightly colored shirt under his school uniform -which he has modified with chains and two colorful belts- all work great together. I also like what they did with his eye shape.

I don't know why I like Star Platinum so much though. His wild hair and the crown that puts his eyes in shadow is really cool.

Advol MY MAN. I think his design is my favourite outside of Jotaro's. He is definitely the knowledgable one of the group. The way he delivers expesitions never feels jarring to me. He hasn't done much outside of the early episodes, I'm hoping he gets to do some more stuff later. Also his stand is amazing. Ultra HD Blaziken.

Polnareff is ok. I like him. I like his fight with the doll stand thing. His stand is pretty cool, I like fencing. He is the funniest out of everyone in the cast so far. Most of the jokes with him landed for me. He is a bit arrogant but he also respects his opponents.

Kakyoin is probably my fave out of the main 5. I think my favourite scene so far is when Jotaro removes the flesh spider thingy from his brain. It's moreso a Jotaro scene, i mean, he puts his life on danger just to save a person who tried to kill him hours earlier. You can tell how bad Kakyoin feels about the whole situation, you can see him tearing up.

I also like the scene where the group tells Polnareff to offer Anne (the little girl) to stay with them without wounding her ego too much, since they know she doesn't have a penny on her. Polnareff of course calls her stinking poor and a freeloader. Everyone in the group is like "goddamit" while Kakyoin laughs in the background lol.

He definitely has something to hide, I can't really shake that feeling. Probably a tragic backstory but with the way ep 8 ended it might be something else.

Hermit Purple calling him a traitor probably has to do with the new stand user Dio sent (presumably). I still trust him. I don't think he was Dio's servant all this time.

Speaking of Anne, I like her actually. I was surprised too. I thought she was gonna be irrelevant like Poco (the kid from part 1). Her interactions with the main cast is really fun, it reveals a lot about them. She isn't annoying, I like having her around because she isn't on every scene. She shows up when she needs to.

I think it would be for the best if she stayed on Singapore, she probably will.

Some other things I wanna mention:

It think it would be cool if some of the stands had a lil bit of personality. Not like a separate conciousness or anything. Just some moments. It would give stands a fun lil dynamic with their users.

Some of the stand encounters are not really necessary tbh. They drag a bit too much.

These are just my first impressions :D. There is still a lot of episodes to go... 40 to be exact.

The Gygax School of Dungeoneering and Dragonslaying: homebrew rules for adventuring schools in D&D 5e

Grading:

Grades are on a scale from 0 to 20. To do an assignment that doesn’t involve an activity that is already reflected in the game’s rules (writing an essay or doing an exam, for example), you must make the appropriate skill check. Instead of having a DC, this check has a number subtracted from the result, with a higher number subtracted reflecting a more challenging assignment. To graduate from the school, you need to pass all your classes and get a combined average grade of 14 per class (336 for 4 years with 6 classes). To pass a class, you need to get a minimum average grade which starts at 6 for year 1, and increases by 1 each year (this rule set assumes that this is a four year school). If you get higher than a 20 on an assignment check, it is considered a 21 for the purpose of determining your average, but if your average score is 21, it is written as a 20. If the year is divided into semesters or trimesters, you have a different average score for each segment of the year in each class, but those averages are averaged together at the end of the year. Your grade point average can be determined by dividing your average score by 5. An overall GPA of at least 2.8 is required to graduate, although the DM may change any of this if they wish.

Extra credit: if you want to redo an assignment check you got a bad grade on, the DM may allow you to attempt the check again, but at disadvantage and with an additional -1 (or possibly more) penalty. Unless the DM says otherwise, you must persuade the teacher first. The base DC for this persuasion check is 14+the number that was subtracted from the assignment you wish to redo, although the DC may be modified to reflect how strict the teacher is, and how much they like the student. Alternatively, the base DC starts at 10, but is increased by 1 every time the player asks to redo an assignment. This may be decreased by 1 for every assignment the player gets at least an 18 on. It may not be decreased to below 10 (or whatever the DM chooses as the base DC for that teacher)

No matter which rules you are using, it is important to factor in the amount of time it takes to do an assignment. The base rule for this is whatever you got on the check before the difficulty was subtracted from it * 8, + 4 * the number subtracted from it to get the number of minutes the assignment takes. The 8 becomes a 2 if the assignment is done entirely in class instead of being homework.

Character progression: passing a class for a semester gives you an XP amount equal to 1/12 of the XP required to get from your current character level to the next level. Alternatively, you  may exchange one year’s worth of XP to gain a new proficiency of a type associated with that class. You may not learn more than 2 new skills per year, unless the DM says otherwise. If you are taking a language class, exchanging this XP gives you a basic level of understanding of the language. To communicate to someone using this language, you must succeed on an intelligence check with a DC equal to their passive perception.

Skill mastery:

If you exchange XP for a proficiency in the first level of a class, you may continue to do so for higher levels of that same class. When you pass the final level of this class, if you have exchanged XP for all levels of it including this one, you may master the proficiency you initially learned, gaining a bonus to checks with that proficiency (or attack rolls if it’s a weapon) equal to the total amount of levels of that class -1 (a +2 bonus by default). If you take an armor proficiency, mastery gives you a +1 to armor class with that type of armor or shield. If you take a vehicle or mount proficiency, its speed increases by 5 feet, and if you take a language, you become fully proficient in that language. If you exchange XP for an intermediate level, and don’t get anything for it, it doesn’t count against the number of skills you can learn that year, and you only have to exchange ¾ the XP you would normally have to if you were getting a skill from it.

Alternative skill mastery options (only for skill and tool proficiencies, one per skill, replaces the bonus):

-signature skill: gain advantage on all checks with that skill, unless you would otherwise have disadvantage on a specific check, in which case disadvantage is applied as if you didn’t have advantage

-dependable skill: you may never have disadvantage on a check with that proficiency

-talent: you may reroll checks with that skill up to two times, but must use the final result

-second nature: if you don’t have disadvantage, checks with that skill may be made as bonus actions

-expert: you may use your reaction to give someone else advantage on a check they are making with that skill
