it's rotten work (fighting for my life in the photoshop image settings just trying to brighten crowley's glasses for an edit)

Which leads me to a question...
When in Season 3 will Crowley's glasses come off? (And 2 sub-questions: when will we, the audience see his eyes uncovered, and when will he trust Aziraphale enough to take them off again?)
As much as I love our demon's gorgeous golden orbs, one of the things I'm very much hoping for is a reliance on this established symbolism to convey what Crowley is too tongue-tied, or too wounded, to say.
If we see his eyes at all in episode one, I'd be very surprised. A little disappointed, too, although I suppose I could see an 80s-style training montage of Crowley drinking As Much As It Is Physically Possible For One Immortal Being To Consume-- but even then, I don't think he'd take his glasses off. And I don't think the angel will get a look until the second half of the season, at least.
Part of me really wants him to have stayed in London and established connections with humans or Muriel, but honestly, I think getting spectacularly dumped by the only being he's ever loved (because he finally went against every instinct and every belief about his own unworthiness that he had) would leave him feeling gutted, embarrassed, humiliated, hollowed out, carved into pieces. He won't want to be seen at all.
Given the way neither Maggie nor Nina saw either of our ineffables disappear, Nina because she was pretty swamped, and Maggie because she fell asleep, they may think that the boys ran off together. If Crowley comes back he'll be miserable fielding questions about it. I really want Nina to get him spectacularly drunk and get him talking. But I don't think he'd let a human in that far.
I think he would go on a binge, alone, and he'd spend almost all of it castigating himself for having allowed himself to believe that anything might happen with Aziraphale. He's a fucking demon, he will remind himself. He knows better than to open himself up to that level of vulnerability, that kind of hurt. He'll go to some pretty dark places, not Hell, but here on Earth. He'll see his pain as mostly his own fault, with a healthy dose of pissed-off reserved for the angel and Heaven and the Metatron. I think he'll be angrier at himself than he is at all the rest of them combined, though, and that's saying something. He'll try to drown the broken feelings with alcohol and and anger, masked by indifference.
He's faked things before. But it will leave him cold and joyless. He might try to sleep for a few years, to avoid dealing with it. Might run away for a spell to other places... But we know that nothing will solve it for him.
I kind of want Crowley to become a surfer, and to channel his self-destructive risk-taking into fighting waves in Portugal. He'd look great with surfer hair, and I can see him pretending pretty successfully that it's healed him, while inside, he'd still be a mess.
Somehow, my post that started as a thoughtful meta ended up as a suggestion for a really spectacular AU.

Crowley's glasses after The Fight
Crowley uses his glasses to delineate and preserve private / safe space. He's always wearing them, unless he's alone or in the bookshop that he and Aziraphale together have made their space. And, of course, he uses them in the last fight to communicate to Aziraphale (and to himself) that he is shutting him out and protecting himself.
One idea for early season 3 is that he will always wear the glasses. No place feels safe and warm and supported anymore, so shields up everywhere, even to himself. This seems plausible to me, but it's not my favorite theory.
My favorite theory is that in early season 3 he will have stopped wearing the glasses altogether. Not because he feels open and safe, but the opposite. He is so closed and guarded everywhere that he doesn't need to have the option of marking some times / places / people as safe. I think this would be a more subtle and devastating form of keeping his shields up. I also think he would enjoy being sarcastically unhelpful if anyone (like Aziraphale) tried to call him on it. After all, it's hard to argue "I miss when you used to not wear your glasses and I'm sad about it" to someone who is currently not wearing glasses.

The New S2 Poster Details
Terry's hat and scarf ❤ With an ook pin! ❤
Crowley's old glasses on the statue. The statue itself is the Marly Horses by Guillaume Coustou the Elder.
Aziraphale's bow tie on the floor 👀
The cardboard box - long ago Neil shared on his instagram: Game on! There are mysteries, histories, secrets revealed and Something Too Terrible To Be Revealed on the way. Also a cardboard box.
Three feathers. One white, one blac and one white with a bluish/grey tinge (if it's not a shaddow)?
The angel mug is back 🥰
'The Resurrectionist' matches with skull and crossbones. In the previous poster there was a The Resurrectionist leaflet.
Again the Eccles cakes (already were in the previous poster)
Feather duster with dark gray/black feathers
On this shelf there books also in the previous poster, but at different place 🤔: The Crow Road, Catch-22.
And: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon, from wikj: mystery novel by nritish writer Mark Haddon. Its title refers to an observation by the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes in the 1892 short story The Adventure of Silver Blaze
And: No Woman No Cry: My Life with Bob Marley by Rita Marley a memoir of Bob Marley by wife, Rita.
Also heard the people say that the right one of the Catch-22 they see Gabriel García Márquez on the spine (I can't read it :)).
Lord Jim and Treasure Island have also been identified in the previous poster but now are in a different place 🤔👀.
Three books by Jane Austen: Persuasion, Pride and Prejudice and Emma. We have already seen Pride and Prejudice in the previous poster but it was a different edition so Aziraphale has more than one :).
Candy?
Again geckos! :) 🦎 (there were three in the previous poster)
The Buddy Holly Everyday was also in a different place in the previous poster. And there is a note on it
The Ressurectionist, 66. Goat Gate, Edinburgh 👀.

Thank you for that "hotel? trivago" bit because hahaha the rest of it hurts so much
we do not talk enough about the moment right before crowley puts his sunglasses back on. the "nothing lasts forever" is devastating and if you're like me your eyes were so full of tears you couldn't see the screen the first time you watched it (just like crowley, look at us all twinning in sadness!).
there is a shift that happens in his eyes and i think it is absolutely fascinating and heartbreaking at the same time.
we begin with crowley averting his gaze from aziraphale's face and staring off into the distance instead, and you can see his spirit break. that crowley just lost the one thing in the world he cannot live without and we can see it written across his face like a neon sign.
then, as you'd expect, he gives into the need to cover up his pain, to try and make himself less vulnerable, and even before he lifts his glasses he looks down so aziraphale can no longer see his eyes.
now, the next part is what would not let me out of its grasp all day. we know it happens because of his demeanour afterwards and up until the kiss, but you can actually watch as crowley makes himself numb to the world.
i am intimately familiar with dissociation as a trauma and stress response, and while you can never fully control it, you do eventually find the switch in your mind that makes you snap back into the haze. crowley has had six thousand years to get really, really good at leaving reality behind when he needs and/or wants to.
that's exactly what he does.
he still looks sad, and yet there's just something distinctly distant in his eyes, the shift from openly heartbroken to "i don't want to feel any of this let me leave".
glasses? on
emotions? off
hotel? trivago
i have stared at those four frames more than any person probably should and i don't know if it's the light, if i am going insane, or if there is a single tear sliding out of his right (our left) eye. i'm probably insane and the light is a bitch so if anyone has some high resolution shots or anything that could answer that question without a doubt PLEASE do add it.
by now you are probably ready to threaten me with a knife in a dark alley but before you do that or drive your car off a cliff, let me tell you the best part:
aziraphale notices.
they might be communicating on two different frequencies but aziraphale knows crowley. he knows and loves him, and, most importantly, over the last few years he has gotten used to seeing crowley without his glasses. aziraphale could probably write a book on the expressions in his eyes alone and watches that shift happen and is devastated.
look.
he tries to make himself hope the same second, tries to convince himself crowley is putting on his glasses so they can leave together, but he knows.
aziraphale sees the light leave crowley's eyes, sees crowley leave, knowing that he is quite literally running away from him. you and me against the world, angel, but in that moment crowley firmly pushes him back to "the world" (or tries to, anyway).
the entire season we see crowley take off his glasses whenever he enters the bookshop to the point where he's running around without them on in broad daylight with jimbriel right there.
can you imagine how hurt and confused aziraphale must be?
because what crowley is telling him, if we really, really break it down, is that aziraphale is no longer a safe person for him. and repairing that trust is going to take time and work, no matter how much crowley loves him, how badly they love and need each other.
anyway to seal this off and really rub in the pain - how it started vs. how it ended. <3
oh one last thing: now crowley no longer has a single person he can be himself around, no one that knows him, no one he trusts. no one in whose presence he can take his glasses off.
and outside of the bentley and his own flat, he no longer has a place to do so either. the bookshop was theirs. with aziraphale gone, is it really a safe place anymore? is it somewhere he can just let himself be knowing he will be looked after and protected?
easy answer: no.
alright, off i go. see y'all on the next angst post or in the tags.

@suavissimapenna reply: Except for when he first walks in, Crowley is NEVER wearing his glasses in the bookshop in the new trailer (in the present day). And we don’t actually see him take them off. They just disappear in the scene cut. Not sure if it’s a miracle or trailer editing or something else.
He IS wearing them in the bookshop in the 40s flashback, even though they look *very* cozy. Definitely some kind of change in how comfortable he feels!
@krakensdottir reply: That’s it. It’s the fact that Gabriel is there in the bookshop, smack in the middle of Crowley’s safe space, just walking around like he lives there. Keeping in mind that he isn’t just Some Dude - he’s an Archangel, possibly the Archest of angels depending on who you ask - and Crowley’s reaction to suddenly encountering him THERE of all places isn’t too surprising.
And I agree, he’s no more comfortable showing his eyes in general than he was in season 2. He’s still got his glasses on in every shot we see of him outside the bookshop. But the fact that he’s without them in some of the bookshop scenes, and that he whips them off as soon as he comes in to announce that he’s back? That’s making a statement.
@charlotteharlatan reply: Yes this! By contrast Crowley also has the “lightning” moment out in the street in front of the shop (I’m guessing out of frustration bc Gabriel is there and Aziraphale is being way too nice about it). This was an over the top reaction too, it just doesn’t have as much punch, even with the explosive lightning, because his eyes are covered, like we’re used to seeing them.
My guess is that he hasn’t fully moved into the bookshop at this point in the story but he’s very close to that (hence his increased comfort and immediate removal of sunglasses upon entering the shop, before he knew Gabriel was there). He was THIS. CLOSE. And now here’s this amnesiac archangel arriving out of nowhere and mucking everything up, undoing all his progress (from Crowley’s point of view, anyway).
I’d even bet Gabriel will comment on Crowley’s eyes (bc amnesia, he won’t even remember he’s an Angel, much less that Crowley is a demon) and make Crowley self-conscious about it all over again despite any efforts Aziraphale will make to smooth over the situation.
AND Aziraphale is hiding Gabriel UPSTAIRS from the looks of the trailer, and we’ve never even seen the flat above the bookshop, so it’s not unreasonable to assume Crowley has never been up there, that it’s sort of an inner sanctum for Aziraphale. And here the Angel is, helping the person who told Crowley-disguised-as-Aziraphale to “shut his stupid mouth and die already,” who very much does not deserve his help or his trust, and yet. Maybe Crowley didn’t even tell Az about that part, to spare his feelings. Of course Crowley would be beside himself. There is just such delicious potential for character development here AAAAHHH I’m losing my mind 😭
@scumyuck tags: #CROWLEY IS NO LONGER USING THE SUNGLASSES AS HIS SHIELD TO HIDE HIS VULNERABILITY AROUND AZIRAPHALE HE WANTS AZIRAPHALE TO KNOW AND TO SEE
Saw a gif of Crowley's freak out over Gabriel and got hung up on how dramatic it looks, how intense, and then it hit me. Guys, he's sunglasses-free. That's why his reaction looks so over the top. We're used to seeing Crowley's eyes hidden and only the rest of his face expressing his emotions. But not here! We get to see his wide freaked out, shocked, "what the fuck is this it's Gabriel!" eyes. Because he's not wearing sunglasses!
Crowley walks into the bookshop all casually without sunglasses. He's not wearing sunglasses. Do you see? In season one he takes them off in the bookshop, yes, but while he's super drunk. And then again sitting amongst the flames when he's devastated and thinks Aziraphale died. Season one Crowley takes off his sunglasses for more than a moment AT HOME. In his flat. He very briefly takes them off at the bookshop, but never while sober, never just like that.
Season two Crowley is either very comfortable with his eyes now (unlikely, that's character development you show on screen), or he's very comfortable in the bookshop.
Feeling very normal about this. Brb screaming.

I'm under the impression that crowley's glasses are purposefully way more see-through this season compared to the first one, where I couldn't see his eyes at all if they were covered, and I just wanna know if anyone thinks so too?
Hiya! It is possible. In the first two episodes of S2 Crowley has his old glasses from season 1 (Valentino VA2003)
And since episode 3 he has RIGARDS X UMA WANG - THE STONE ECLIPSE
