The Entrelac Crochet Tutorial Masterpost
Tumblr media
A really neat crochet technique is called entrelac, which is also available for knitting. But, as we all know: I don鈥檛 knit馃槀馃ぃ. At first it can seem really daunting to pick up entrelac crochet because the pattern seems so intricate, but once you get the hang of it, it鈥檚 really easy and the end result is just stunning 馃ぉ, especially with a good color combination.
So, here鈥檚 a few tutorials to get you started, enjoy!

You all need to hear this:
1. You probably dont suck at your craft as much as you think you do, I bet a lot of people are amazed at what you can make, and
2. If you actually are the Literal Worst In The Whole Wide World at your craft... who the fuck cares? What are they gonna do, call the police on you? Keep making your shitty little things, youre the boss of you, fuck the haters.

Handicrafts like knitting, crocheting, and tatting teach you that holding good tension is a balance. You can't work entirely without tension, but you also can't brute-force tight work. You hold good tension with practiced hands, not squeezing fists.
I think there's something poetic about life there, but I don't have the braincells to express it.

i am thinking how much poorer, how much less colorful the world would be if art was only made by "professionals." if all the music, all the stories, all the sketches & paintings & craftwork of the world was created only by the small category of people able to make a decent living from their art. imagine if the only people allowed to create were the experts & the renowned & those aspiring to the top. what a grey world that would be. how much joy would be bleached away! i love you people who create for the sake of creating, i love you artists who do art for tiny audiences, i love you people who make things even just for one person, even just for themselves, even if no one's watching, thank you thank you thank you for decorating the world in which we all exist

idk who needs to read this but you can make things for yourself. Without excuses. People/friends/family are not owed things from you. And don't get me wrong, giving people gifts is one of my favorite things to do but I get so burned out by it.
My dad's favorite question when he sees me working on a new project is "who's it for?" and then looks vaguely disappointed in me when I say it's for myself 9 times out of 10 and then I feel guilty cause I feel like I make too many things for myself.
He is incorrect. Make things for yourself. I love making things for other people but I also love making things for myself, and I don't need to justify the second. Neither do you.

...5am Pearl has entered the chat
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was thinking of giving her some bloodstains and scratches but then decided not to.
The three rhinestones on her back represent the life series: Jimmy and Tango got green, yellow, and red on their designs, but Pearl is all red for the dramatic funsies.

Self-taught one work-in-progress at a time so that there鈥檚 some beginner stuff I don鈥檛 know and advanced stuff that I do know and I will forever be making silly beginner mistakes in complex projects that I鈥檒l probably never complete :)

The Corner2Corner Crochet Tutorial Masterpost
One of the most versatile crochet patterns is the corner2corner, or c2c, crochet pattern. Working your way up diagonally from the bottom corner to the top corner is not only a fun way to crochet a project, it also works up rather fast. Which is absolutely amazing when you were born with little to no patience, like I was馃槀馃ぃ. This pattern is also very easy and thus very beginner friendly.
A little fun fact: the corner to corner pattern lends itself very well for grapghan crochet, so I鈥檒l link a few tutorials on how to do that as well.
This is what corner2corner crochet looks like:
Enjoy!

Wanted to write stories, wrote a bunch, learned how to write. In that order.
Wanted to crochet toys, crocheted a bunch, learned to crochet. In that order.
Want to learn a language... try to learn that language... struggle and quit.
What's the "do" that comes before the "learn" in languages?

i dont think everyone appreciated my life-size furret as much as they should have
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he is approximately 7 feet, so he鈥檚 a little bigger than most furrets, but we love him anyways.
this took me over 3 months of ~5 to 14 hour daily crochet sessions, so please appreciate him

Love how crocheting is just 99%, "Wtf did I do wrong???" and undoing the whole project just to realize that you didn't do anything wrong in the first place
