Ammonite Fossil Coaster Pattern!
Tumblr media
Finally got the pattern to a nice state, so I'm posting it as promised! This pattern should be easy for anyone with an understanding of double crochet and upwards types of stitches! Feel free to use, and if you really really like it you can drop a few buckaroons in my kofi here, but again this is free! I don't feel comfortable charging money for any patterns I make, at least not yet lol.
I even learned how to make a cute fancy pdf for it!

Something very interesting was blinking far away 💡 so Crab 🦀 climbed the highest seashell 🐚 to get a better view 👀 He couldn’t believe his eyes – it looked like an island 🏝 one he’d never seen before! 😲 What could it possibly be? 🤔 He had to ask the other Mini Kingdom villagers, but no one seemed to know. Maybe you do? 😊

Happy World Turtle Day! 🥳🐢
This year’s annual tortle tower is an extra special one: Remember when Mom went to Canada back in February and met Waffles and Mango @wafflesworld’s humom (and left me at home)? ✈️🇨🇦 Mom came back with a beautiful new friend crocheted by Alicia herself: Astro the tortoise!* I bonded with Astro instantly! 🐢😍🐢
* Crochet pattern for Astro by the amazing Projectarian! 🧶

Soooo, I made a booboo. I accidentally made the skull shell size small instead of the large. I thought I had enough of this yarn left to make up the large version, based on the pattern yardage, but nope, I ran out before doing the skull. Thus, the shell received beetlejuice black stripes instead and I’ll also make up a small snail for the other shell.

Got my really teeny crochet hooks so here's some tiny shenanigans. Still experimenting to figure out what thread weight I wanna work with for doll stuff, the sunflower one is embroidery thread split in half. The tiny shell stitch is sewing thread with a 0.5mm hook. While I think it's too thin for me to use for anything but like idk ... summer clothes on a fashion doll it was fun to prove how small I can go!

blooming shells altar cloth
This is before and after "blocking" the acrylic piece.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you dunk an acrylic project into just-under-boiling water, it permanently "relaxes" the fibers. This gives the fabric a lot of drape, and can make a lace pattern come to life.
Everyone was very kind and supportive in my post about starting to make crochet patterns, so I worked up the earlier altar cloth I made into a pattern with a simplified border.
It's a beginner-level project using one skein (269 yd/246 m, 121 g) of size 4 yarn and 5mm/US H8 hook.
The yarn pictured is Big Twist Value in the Jack-o-Lantern color, I got it for $3.68 after tax.
Hopefully I will get the video tutorial done in the next week or so, but we'll see :) now that the sample is done I need to pop back to Joannes for another skein.

Another mini update because I think I deserve to talk about this:
Tumblr media
I am changing game plans! I'm not sure if I've mentioned this but... The shell stitch is such a yarn eater. I have four rows of shells, but you actually don't see that there are about eight rows in this because there are intermittently small ones to set up the space for all the shells. These four rows have basically eaten up ninety percent of my skein of 210 yards (192 meters). My question is: should I make one more shell stitch row before transitioning into double crochet, or is four sufficient?
My new plan now is something like this: shell stitch four rows, double crochet until I reach the center of the tallit. The middle will be a few more rows of shells, then back to double crochet until I make it to the other side. I genuinely can't think of a worse idea that thirty-three inches (eighty-four centimeters) of solid white in shell stitch.
(Do note that my camera has completely altered the colors. It does this automatically and I hate it so much. These colors are so much richer and more interesting than how this camera decided to mess with it)
