All his parts have been finished...

Some days ago I started working on @psychic-pigeons 's Chilchuck pattern and today is finally the day when I put him together. The pattern was actually really easy to follow and fun to do, and even when I struggled, psychic-pigeons was kind enough to take time out of his day to answer my questions kindly and clearly. I had so much fun I took a lot of pictures, that I'll be posting here! I changed a few things out of laziness, but overall I stuck with the pattern!

I started with the head and the arms and I had no problem, then went to the legs and body. I really like the shape of the feet, and the fact that they are a single piece together with legs and torso made it very sturdy. But one thing I couldn't get over was how fucking cute the little boots were... I played a lot with them, and I enjoyed putting them on and off maybe a bit too much.

I had some trouble with the shirt and thought of winging it and making a different one, but with pigeon's help I managed to finish the shirt and I'm glad I didn't change it... It's adorable... Something that I really like is that all clothes are actually clothes, and you can take them on and off. I had a lot of fun dressing and undressing my poor headless armless Chilchuck.

One thing I did differently (apart from the belt and pouch that I winged at the end) was the vest. If you know one thing about me is that I hate sewing, so I couldn't see myself making all the squares individually and then sewing them together... So I used the same tunisian crochet technique and diagram of the original to make two pieces and embroidered the panels on top afterwards. Here they both are on top of my dinner table together with plenty of breadcrumbs.

I dressed his body with the clothes and... Made the mistake of putting his shirt backwards... I corrected it and then... Put his vest backwards so I had to undress him again...

(I pinned the collar for a bit to make it stay flatter, but I removed them later)

I suck at embroidery, so I was very scared of doing the face. For how much I suck at it, I think it looks very good!

The hair I didn't take as many pictures, but imagine his head full of pins. I did the individual strands first before the "crown", and worked in sections making sure each one was dry and secure before taking the pins out and moving to the next part. I used liquid silicone.

And with that I sewed his head in and he was complete!

I had a lot of fun. The pattern is a delight and I learnt a lot throughout too. If you were on the fence of making your own, take this as a sign to do it! I love my little guy. My mum calls him her grandson.

Also don't forget to show support to @psychic-pigeons ! Making patterns is hard enough without considering writing them down and explaining them, and his pattern is in my opinion a 10/10. Thank you for the chance to make one as well!

Sadly my Chilchuck doesn't squeak, but maybe eventually I'll make him a hermit crab inside a box to sit on top of (eventually... This took me four days and my hands hurt).

17. name 3 things that make you happy

not to sound corny, but my friends. unfortunately most of them live pretty far away, but talking to them, even if it's just over video call, never fails to brighten my day.

my pet snails! love watching those funky little guys go about their day.

creating things. the act of creation sucks so bad when it's not going the way i want it to, but when it's going well it's the best feeling in the world. i love when i find just the right word to use in a sentence or when i get lost in a crochet project. there's just something so special about putting something into the world that i made with my own hands.

24. what's one thing you're proud of yourself for?

again, not to sound corny, but i'm proud of making it this far! i've struggled a lot with my mental health for almost my entire life, and with my physical health for the past few years, but somehow i've persevered and am still trying to find silver linings. i guess i'm glad i'm still alive, despite it all. recently, i've also been trying to abandon my hermit crab lifestyle and i've gone on a few dates. it's been very anxiety-inducing, but i'm proud of myself for giving it a shot anyway.

I just realized that the adhd stereotype of a million projects going on and none of them getting finished is definitely true for me. I decided to clean my room last night (which didn't end up happening) and found 30 yards of tulle fabric from when I started making a petticoat, 15 broken monster high dolls from when I used to repaint them, my knitting needles, my crochet hooks, a tangle of yarn that was going to be a scarf, the computer I got for my birthday to start learning Unity and haven't touched in 6 months, my watercolors and old paintings, my acrylics for the unfinished mural I made on the basement wall, my embroidery hoop, my scrap book, my journal that I stopped writing in 5 years ago, the water bubbler I bought for the hermit crabs I never bought, and my currently broken sewing machine.

Were you named after anyone? i was named because of an actor with a very specific spelling of a common name, but not after them.

When was the last time you cried? idk, it miiiiight have been watching yellowjackets.

Do you have kids? my cat.

What sports have you played? i've dabbled in everything from tennis to competitive bowling. i did netball for the longest though, around four years i think.

Do you use sarcasm? i try not to as much as i used to, but definitely.

What's the first thing you notice about people? if they have cool hair or piercings. especially if they have the same ones as me.

What's your eye colour? green. i had blue eyes when i was really young, and then they went hazel, but now they're just green. The only hint of brown left is in the freckles i have in my irises

Scary movies or happy endings? scary movies for sure. i can rarely enjoy media that ISN'T horror-related. idk what the appeal is for me but i just love spooky stuff.

Any talents? meaningful ones? no way. i can fold my tongue into a 4 leaf clover though. also being able to recognise most songs from just a few seconds of audio, i think that's a talent.

What are your hobbies? oh god i have so many. being insane about twd. doing art, all of it. decorating my over-decorated room (latest addition is glow stars on my spinny fan) skateboarding (SOOOO beating the uncoordinated allegations). crocheting, knitting etc. getting obsessed with video games for the perfect amount of time to 100% them and never look back. listening to cool music and making my silly little playlists. talking people's ears off. running a mediocre fandom-obsessive tumblr blog. overall just being the coolest guy ever.

Do you have any pets? YEAHHHH!!!! my awesome big cat alden (did not name him after a walking dead character, i would neeeeever) i also have fish, and i'm getting hermit crabs VERY soon!!!

How tall are you? i think i'm just over 6'0. most of the time i'm in my platform docs though, so by general consensus, way too fucking tall.

Favourite subject in school? I loooooved my arts, but couldn't bring myself to take them into my final years, some things are just supposed to stay as hobbies. i do like all the sciences though, which is what i'm ACTUALLY doing.

Dream job? sitting around and being the special-est guy in the world... what do you mean that's not reeeealistic?? i guess if i HAD to pick an ACTUAL job, i'd love to work for NASA.
