Bear Island Light, Cranberry Isles, Northeast Harbor, Maine. One day in the 1930's, keeper Elmo J. Turner had to take the island cow over to Northeast Harbor on the mainland. He did do by rowing her across in his dory. On the ride back the cow got seasick.

Leaf is a writer of original stories and fanfictions. You can find her works on Quotev and Wattpad!! For now, she has written a Sky: CotL Fanfiction called Fly Until You See The Light, or just FUYSTL or Phewstel, and an original story called Remyandre's Keepers, or just RISK. She plans to make sequels of these stories!
Plots of the stories:
🕯️🪽🪶Fly Until You See The Light (FUYSTL/Phewstel):
Sentinekka, on her thirteenth birthday, the date known for the start of the typical journey in the seven realms, decides to bring her best friend, a fifteen year old who was never allowed to start her journey, through the exploration of the Isle of Dawn onwards...
But different and unexpected, positive and negative, heartbreaking and hilarious things can happen during every journey... What could our girl possibly encounter?
Well, why not find out?
☄️🏔️❄️Remyandre's Keepers (Remyandre/RISK):
Remyandre is a really weird place in a too much normal world, a place where nothing good is seen as a negative trait and where you can finally see yourself as the miracle you are. Or, at least, that's what everyone feels about Remyandre. Only one boy, so different and unsettling, feels scared and confused about himself even in the most welcoming place. And that's what makes him leave. In the meanwhile, his friends and the other Keepers of Remyandre, the creatures who own powers, must find him and complete more missions during a long journey that will change their lives.

Marbled Monday
This week's marbling was found on the binding of a book we've posted about before: Root and Sky: Poetry from the Plays of Christopher Fry. The text was compiled and arranged by Charles E. and Jean G. Wadsworth with collagraph-intaglios designed and printed by Charles E. Wadsworth (1917-2002). Charles E. Wadsworth was a painter, printmaker, and poet who lived in Cranberry Isles, Maine with his wife, author Jean G. Howard-Wadsworth. You can learn more about the book in our previous post here.
The marbling is most closely resembles a traditional stone pattern, but does have some swirling or dragging done using a stylus. The main background is a creamy color, which looks darker in person than in the photos shown here. On top of that is green and black and grey, which are sort of swirled around a bit in an asymmetrical way. Finally there is a mushroom-y purple-y brown sprinkled on top and sometimes swirled into the other colors. It's a very earthy color palette, which compliments the muted mossy green cloth of the spine and slipcase.

Ok no actually I wanna hear your Trader Joe’s opinions I’m really into the orange strawberry banana juice, the bruschetta sauce, the cranberry lime juice sparkling water and cinnamon schoolbook cookies
You and I agree on the CLSW (cranlime sparkling), haven’t tried the others but I’ll look into them. The normal lime one is also amazing on its own, as well as a mixer for both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Summer must!
There’s so much shit I’m obsessed with, I’ll try and list the most important ones
English crumpets
Mango kefir
Brown sugar oat creamer
Chocolate oat milk
Simpler wines brand sparkling white canned wine
Pfeffernüsse
Chocolate babka
Brioche sliced bread
Danish Kringle
Pinks and whites shortbread cookies
Joe Joe’s gluten free classic Oreo knock off cookie
Madras lentils (boxed kind is good too)
Canned giant baked beans in tomato sauce
The non joes brand oat milk coffee and kombucha but you can get those anywhere
Their candles, two in one grapefruit mint hair wash (I despise two in one products but this one doesn’t foam and is more of a cleansing conditioner I use in between shampoo and regular conditionings), and many other non food items. I’ve bought their towels, seasonal decor (usually those felt garlands), face lotions and oils. Loved all of them. Usually I only restock on the lotion, hand soap, and lavender laundry bags. Their detergent is nice tho, and I’ve also gotten their wool laundry balls but you really only ever gotta buy them like once. They also usually have pretty cute cards at the checkout! I like their cheaper flowers too, but there’s also a lot of very cute seasonal items they carry that I just can’t justify buying bc of price (have you seen their felt sunflowers? So adorable)
Simpler times potato chips
Crispy Crunchy Champignon Mushroom Snack
Fruit leather bars
Dried orange rings
Lox (labeled as smoked salmon iirc)
Both their Tunisian and kalamata olive oil
Vodka sauce
Roasted red pepper and tomato canned soup
Canned vegetable soup
Gone bananas chocolate covered frozen bananas (gone berry crazy strawberries are good too but like a dollar or two more expensive)
Jasmine rice in the frozen isle
Lime popsicles
Steak and stout meat pie
Pastry Bites Feta Cheese & Caramelized Onions
Canned tuna*
*especially with the gluten free microwaveable mac n cheese (I’m not gluten free if you’ve noticed, I literally just prefer some of their gluten free products. Same with the oat milk. I’m not lactose free but I just really like it)
Most of the frozen wontons I’ve tried
Chimichurri rice (goes great with the aforementioned roasted red pepper box soup, and chopped onions, green peppers, and spinach cooked in a wok)
Chicken sausage
Butternut squash gnocchi, iirc the potato gnocchi is good too
Most of their dried pastas
Almond and chocolate filled frozen croissants
The bars of chocolate you find at the check out that come in packs of threes
The weird meat sticks at the checkout too
Frozen hashbrowns
For whatever reason, their frozen green beans and asparagus is so much better than other generic brands I’ve tried
Any of the canned olives but esp the kalamata
Sun dried tomatoes
The produce is okay, a little pricey but they had brown Mexican tomatoes once that fucked hard. The herbs trustworthy too but really where is it not
Any of their chocolate covered nuts
Their fucked up chocolate covered chips, sometimes found in their snack mixes
Peanut butter pretzel snacks
Their dried seaweed isn’t my fav, but it’s not bad. I think it’s overpriced tho but tbf I usually get huuuge, less flavored packs from Costco
Pine nuts but good Gd are they expensive
They have cute, weird heirloom hybrid squashes during the fall a lot too that are pretty tasty
Things I’ve gotten from there that I hated? I didn’t like their orange chicken, ANY of the cereals I’ve gotten from there oddly enough, their pecorino Romano only comes grated and mixed iirc and I didn’t care for it. Some of their beers have made me scowl but also those are all random brands. But their wine (yes, even SHAW. But shoutout to coco bon red blend and blue fin moscato RIP!) has never does me wrong…except for any other flavor of the simpler wines canned ones. I can only do the sparkling white and literally no else I've forced to drink it has liked it! some of their salads have done me wrong. the canned chickpeas and dolmas were off. and some of their pricy juice mixes left me a bit disappointed.

Tenanye is finally getting her time to shine in dd2! If you're curious about her, her insanely long-winded backstory is in my oc x canon carrd.... TLDR; She's in a relationship with Daimon and lives on Bitterblack Isle!
She's traveled to the dd2 parallel world after finding out it exists, thanks to a pawn names Maahes, who was left on Bitterblack when his previous arisen fled the world, and unfortunately lost her life... So of course Tenanye gets curious about this new world and travels there together with Maahes, to do some exploring and have some fun, although her and Maahes do butt heads often... She's very loyal to Daimon and will absolutely be returning to the isle, but for now she's gonna collect a bunch of cranberries for him to try.
More fun facts and some doodles under the cut...
Tumblr media
Since these weapons also existed in the first game and were found exclusively through purifying cursed items on Bitterblack, and ofc now they mention previously housing a demon.... I decided to go balls to the wall self indulgent and headcanon that Daimon and Tenanye can communicate through them while she's exploring the dd2 world.... Like a rift-powered video call....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then there's Maahes.... Please forgive that he's shirtless right now.... I am working on it....
Tumblr media
Maahes was the pawn of an arisen who was Rothias' beloved ages and ages ago. Sometime after he became seneschal and came back down to earth and started his ruthless, paranoid search for the Pathfinder, killing anyone he may have suspected, his old beloved was made arisen. Maahes was conjured in the image of Rothias, influenced both by his best and worst traits.
His arisen was too afraid to challenge Rothias, seeing as he had already started slaughtering arisen who attempted to challenge him. She somehow found a link to a pocket dimension across the rift, which was Bitterblack Isle. She managed to survive there for a while, but ultimately met her end. Maahes underwent a degree of the bestowal of spirit there, and of course that's also where he met Tenanye. Maahes can be sadistic, sarcastic and cruel, but he's also calculated, and has a love for luxury and power. He's quite hedonistic.
Tenanye surprisingly is quite a few of those things too, although both of their strong wills do clash and lead to contention.... Not to mention, Maahes reminds Tenanye a bit of her ex-husband, although he wasn't nearly as extreme as Maahes...

I HAD A DREAM LAST NIGHT
you and me were at the grocery store and we had to get like cranberry juice or something and like eggs (I don't remember) and so we got to the juice isle and you were like "oh here it is" and got some grape juice and I didn't notice it was grape juice. We left the store and you drove home bc idk and when we got there I got out the bottle and pored myself the juice and drank it before spitting it out and going "wtf is this its bad" and you said "its grape juice" and I said "why did you put grape juice in the cart" and you said "is that what you wanted?" And I said " no I wanted cranberry juice" and so you sighed and took the grape juice thing and chugged it and then threw it away and said "whoops we can't return it now" and then I woke up.
do you even like grape juice???? WHY WOULD YOU CHUG IT LIKE THAT???????

virgo: what does your muse find beauty in?
ZODIAC HEADCANONS | @gaindragon
she finds it in the softness of velvet beneath her fingers, and in the feeling of silk — she finds it in the intricacy of the detailing sewn into her gowns in threads of silver, and gold and accented jewel tones to make the dress complete. she finds it in discovering the perfect combination of her gowns and necklaces and rings, and even a headpiece if it goes along with it the right way. in the near constant thrum of life at court, the double edged sword that is the consistent stream of chatter about ( the conversation is often turned toward her, and is not always kind, but at the same time everything feels so alive with the movement of so many people and the cacophony of their voices ) in the musicians that have made the red keep their home, and entertaining king viserys' court their current profession. in their skill, and the light fluidity of it - and the way without fail they always seem to illicit something from those listening. whether it be an emotion or the beginning of a dance at one of the many balls that had filled her girlhood growing up.
in dancing, in the way when one was it was always so freeing. rarely when one approached her to dance it was merely just that, and that was fine, too — she had grown used to that, but there was something entirely special about the simplicity of it. the simplicity that was following learned steps, to make something that seem complex at first glance easy through practice. she could loose herself in that, and ease up just a bit on herself when it came to it. in music, and in the playing of music. in the structuralized setting that was practicing music notes and working toward a true melody. with her harp she could create something beautiful, and something with no purpose beyond it. and it could not be taken, or twisted, or turned into something else. she finds it in the summer sun and the clear night sky and the subsequent scatter of stars. she finds it laying on the ground and staring upward, or walking the beach on the isle of dragonstone, or hiking to traverse the increasingly uneven terrain the further one went on it - in hearing the near constant littany of dragonsong. she finds it in the smell of cranberries and dragonsbreath in aegon's garden, in those peaceful days she can take her children and spend the day there in near complete privacy - where they can run, and laugh and play amongst the rows of bushes without fear of adhering to propriety or behaving how princes " should ".
she finds it in the laughter of her children, she finds it in their smiles, in their joy, and their little discoveries as they grow that seems so monumental to them. she finds it in the implicit trust that they have in her, even though that prospect terrifies her at the same time — she finds it in those moments in which she's able to escape to the dragonpit and where even if she can't fly that moment, she can sit with syrax and just exist with her, and be able to feel that companionship that has always been there, ever since she'd been borne, and yet which she's always slightly in awe of. she finds beauty in the dragons themselves, in these ancient, powerful creatures that exist even still — in the spread of her syrax’s wings and the unadulterated feeling of weightless she feels when she’s flying.

who: @bluehairedcouffaine where: just sing karaoke bar
Her small slice of the Isle had become the karaoke bar, coming every Thursday night for an open mic where she'd be able to try out something she'd written. It gave her a space to safely share her music while still being able to keep it personal just how she intended for it to be sung. Not to mention the fact that it was Berlioz who was supposed to be the musician of the family and she figured he wouldn't take well to knowing she'd tried to take that. That's the thing, Berlioz and Toulouse had their niche while Marie was worried she'd never find hers. Maybe it was music or painting but she felt like her brother's already had a claim on those. Instead, she'd keep her songs to herself and the Thursday night Just Sing crowd. Once she finished her song she gave a small curtsy and went off to put her guitar back in its case. As Marie closed the lid she saw someone that made her heart jump: Luka Couffaine. Of course, she knew who he was from the record company and having heard his music. Once she grabbed her case she waltzed right over to the bar, asking for two vodka cranberries before approaching him herself. "For you," she greeted with a smile, holding out the glass for him to take. "Maybe it'll make this guy's rendition of Wayward Son sound better." She used her head to gesture back towards the guy who went after her who had clearly drank a few too many himself and had a wave of sudden confidence even though he was tone-deaf.

HAU drink nite
As vaguely threatened, I recreated drinks from the recipe book in the Screaming Banshee bar!
I only ended up making 5 of them because I wanted to make alcoholic versions and I’m too old for hangovers. I don’t own a blender, so those were automatically off the list.
Recipe interpretations:
The big red thing is a pomegranate
The group of three dark red things are cranberries
Mint simple syrup was used for the mint component
Alcohol amount in each drink was x1
Alcohol selection was whatever seemed like it would work with the ingredients
So here they are, ranked from “Hey that’s really good!” to “Absolutely heinous”
Under a ‘read more’ because there are pictures so the post is kinda long :)
Brown River
Tumblr media
An unexpected delight! Bourbon whiskey for the alcohol component. It gave off a cranberry whiskey sour vibe and had a lot of depth. We added some crushed pineapple and pomegranate seeds for texture because my partner has no chill where food and drink are concerned and everything must be fancy.
Tumblr media
Green Isle
Tumblr media
A very close second (and my partner actually thinks this one should be first). I chose a light rum because the mint and lime had us thinking about mojitos. This one turned out the prettiest even though we don’t have actual martini glasses.
Tumblr media
Bog Punch
Tumblr media
This one isn’t bad, but it was the last drink of the night, and by that point I started to realize there was only a limited number of ingredients and everything was going to start to taste similar. It was just generically citrusy and a little sour. Made with white rum and probably would have been more interesting with a tequila, but I’m not a tequila fan.
Tumblr media
Crow’s Nest
Tumblr media
I’m sorry to have to report that Donal’s favorite isn’t very good. There’s just SO MUCH orange juice that it overwhelms everything else and makes the drink feel kind of thick and heavy. Alcohol was vodka and triple sec. We don’t have two beer mugs with handles so one of them went in the novelty boot glass, which was entertaining.
Tumblr media
Peat Bog
Tumblr media
Here it is. The worst. Awful and bad. We knew it was going to suck, but like. It was so bizarre that you just have to try it. Probably would have been best with an Irish cream liqueur, but the closest thing we had on hand was a coffee liqueur. Green food coloring was added to complete the experience. I didn’t need to spit it out or anything, but I also didn’t finish the whole glass.
Tumblr media
(Mmmm, murky green liquid. Appetizing)
And that’s all! We bought way more fruit and juices than we needed, but had a lot of fun and will legitimately add the Brown River and the Green Isle to our drink recipe list!

Baker Island Light, Islesford, Cranberry Isles, Maine. The first lighthouse on the small island was maintained by William and Hannah Gilley. There they raised twelve children, tended large gardens, and made their own clothing from the wool of the flocks of sheep they kept. Baker Island was also home to the family's numerous cows, pigs, ducks and chickens.
