An Uboe boy stumbling across a boar taborang feeding in a thicket.

Taborang are exclusively found in the montane forests on the humid east side of the Blackmane mountains, particularly in its river valleys and floodplains. They are specialized herbivores that feed almost exclusively on the leaves, sprouts, and young stalks of bamboo, a midsized species of which can be found in great abundance within their range. Taborang are nearly indistinguishable from a close lowland relative, but are distinct in retaining their incisor teeth into maturity, which are used to crack and peel tough shoots for easier consumption.

Like most of their relatives, taborang are large, bulky, and highly unusual ungulates who use their long arms and curved claws to collect plant matter for consumption. They lead mostly solitary lives, with adults only typically coming together to breed, and young staying with their mothers for about a year. Adult taborang have very few predators and are not commonly hunted in their range, but are quite shy and tend to avoid humans whenever possible. They will stand on their hind legs and spread their arms in threat display when cornered, and slash at threats if attacked. Mother taborang are known to become aggressive when a person comes between them and their calf, and can move with alarming speed through dense thickets to engage the threat.

The Uboe people live predominantly in the northern Blackmane Highlands, subsisting on terraced farming of rice and barley and seasonal pastoralism of horses. Bamboo figures heavily into their craftmaking and cuisine, lending to occasional close encounters with the shy, secretive taborang. The name 'taborang' is one of the Uboe language terms for this animal, translating roughly as 'man-horse' in reference to its horselike face on a vaguely humanoid body (particularly so when the animal stands upright in threat display).

Taborang range- this particular species is only found within the eastern Blackmane Highlands (with a couple scattered populations in the major river valleys on its west side)

Another species within the same genus has a more generalist diet and a much wider spread, being found throughout the lowlands east and south of the mountain range. A few populations occur in the oak forest and savannah in the far northwest side of the mountains, but they fare better in humid regions than the dry western rainshadow.

Sardonyx is a plucky gem, normally an avid craftmaker over at the gem school. however, their apt dexterity also made them a talented fighter-- able to master several weapons. but at the end of the day, they do quite like their little handiworks over fighting lunarians.

Cheerful and very hard to pies off. Though said cheerfulness often gets tested at the cafe she works at. Though she often dreams of opening her own cafe. Often brings Casper leftover pastries. On days off she sleeps during the day, prefers the night but she does still share the same night schedule with Casper. Her favorite food is lychee. Very eccentric and the type to ask the most unhinged questions at 3 AM. Is no longer allowed to sleep upside down after she fell and had to get her head stapled. Overall fun to be around.

A man who enjoys making arts and crafts to sell online. Born to a bear humanoid mother and a wolfdog humanoid father, Casper is a monster who has inherited traits of the species of both of his parents, though his wolfdog traits are more obvious. The things this resulted in is great physical strength and height, as well as a large appetite. Tends to be slightly insecure about his weight and how quickly he seems to gain weight, but always has the comfort of Starlight. Does enjoy baking from time to time. Is the more calmer and easy going of the two. Though when something goes wrong… he freaks out a bit. But even so, he still does enjoy taking part in the shenanigans Starlight gets him into, according to him, life’s more fun that way.

The two actually met at the cafe that Starlight worked at. Chatting and hitting it off, while one of Star’s coworkers was slow at getting Casper’s order ready. The two currently live together in an apartment but are trying to save up for their own house. Their favorite date idea is stargazing at their balcony.

I'm making more crafts and look at how cute this charm is. I think I'll make more Enha inspired items.

I've ground my own pigments and made my own paints. Modern art materials production is a frickin gift.

And yeah, it all takes a lot of work and people who've never turned their hand to any art or craftmaking really don't seem to have a clue.

Crafted items are precious and people should be fairly compensated for their labor. It is really a lot.

everyone should attempt an artisan craft at some point in their life because it would cut down the number of comments questioning why handmade goods like ceramics or textile craft or woodworking are so expensive

and this is an unrealistic expectation, but I think the attempt should include seeing through to the end at least one "finished" item, no matter how clumsy or lumpy your first attempts might be. like to me, there's a huge difference in perspective between attempting to learn how to crochet or throw a pot for a few days, acknowledging that it's harder than it looks and giving up, versus committing to finishing that scarf or clay pot you started and working on it for weeks while you painstakingly learn from your mistakes and grow attached to your project while also simultaneously hating it.

once you finish the latter, your perspective changes from "why does this crocheted blanket cost $200" to "holy shit I can't believe they're charging $200 for this crocheted blanket instead of $2000" because you may have known crocheting is hard, you may have easily agreed with the idea that "handmade goods take time and effort" even before attempting a craft, but now you know firsthand the absolute time sink it takes to make things. like yeah dude, that one item took you 2 months to make and probably wasn't even an ultra complex item if it was the first thing you made, now imagine attaching an hourly wage to that time to calculate the cost (and this is ignoring every nuance of the artistic element and master crafters being able to work faster/charge higher because of their years and years of experience)

anyway this rant has been motivated by a comment I saw on someone else's ceramic post asking why a mug was $60 and they understand it's handmade but $60 just seems overpriced, and bro do you know how long ceramics take to make. that mug probably took at minimum 3 weeks between how long it takes to throw the mug, dry partially, trim the mug, dry fully, bisque fire, wait a day for the kiln to cool, sand and paint and glaze, glaze fire, wait a day for the kiln to cool, take product photography of the mug, write description and list the mug online for sale, im not even including the skill needed to complete all these steps without the mug literally exploding or collapsing while also making it an appealing piece of art, aaaaaaaaaaaaa
