— TANGERINE.

People are often one to laugh over your irrational, almost silly fears. In most cases you’re brave - hard as rocks, but the moment you see one of eight-legged insects scatter across your way, you’re out of there. It doesn’t matter how big or small they are, a spider is a spider and you don’t wanna see it.  You’d find yourself calling for your boyfriend, calling in your knight to catch it for you. You hated them, but you’d never kill them. It’s not their fault they’re scary. You’d almost always be out of the room, lingering in the hallway as Tangerine finds and catches the spider in a glass. You would talk to him through the door, pestering with questions - asking if he caught it yet.  He knew never to show you, to only tip the cup out of the window or door - or if it were a spider too large, he’d be keen to take it to the furthest point in the garden, making sure it couldn’t get back in.  Though, he does like it when you need him. He likes to feel needed, even if it’s just to collect a harmless tiny little thing.

Annoying Tangerine was fun, it was easy. Almost anything could piss him off, and often, it was hard not to piss him off. Anything could make him tick, it was just the matter of what way you were going to do it.  In the past, you’d choose to add salt to his tea instead of sugar, or draw on him during the night - often opting for a black, felt-tip goatee or penned, handlebar attachments to his moustache. Sometimes, if you really wanted to annoy him, you’d share how the bikini wax you got earlier that day was from a male cosmetologist. And he’d fall for it every time. But the one that would tick him off most, is when you spoke to him like you were a guy, hitting on him in the crudest ways you could think of.  If he were minding his business, eating a banana while doing work bits on his laptop, you’d always, always say, “what that mouth do, ma?” It was simple, but it never failed to crack you up. Another favourite of yours is to fake bang him when his back is to you, rubbing up on him from behind while you whisper some whacky obscenities.  He’d push you off, calling you a, “fucking freak.” But you wouldn’t let him get the last word because before you let go, you’d call him your good girl, slapping his ass as if to emasculate him further.
Tumblr media
wc. 210
Sometimes at night, you’d struggle to sleep - many thoughts swirling your mind. The deep, existential ones were common, but you were far more acquainted with the pestering, silly ones. Random little what if’s popping up. Tangerine would be beside you in bed, settled and almost asleep when you break the silence, asking questions as if there were no filter. Anything ranging from, “Would we still date if we didn’t meet when we did?” or “What if there was a house fire. What would you save first? Like what object or thing would you save?” Often opting to the extremes, like, “If you woke up one day and I wasn’t here, what would you do?” or, “What if I suddenly went deaf and blind, what would you do?” To him, these were silly, pointless questions that are a result of no sleep - but he could always tell they’d mean something to you. Even if it was a stupid thought. So he’d scooch closer to hug you under the covers, soothing over your skin as he sleepily whispers to you - telling you those things will never happen, and that he’d love you no matter what happened to you. Always being sure to punctuate it with the emphasis that you need to rest.
PIETRO.
Tumblr media
wc. 430
It was no secret Pietro had been around. His staggering charm and good looks coming to play when it came to bedding women. In other words, he used to be a whore. A few days ago, you and Pietro were in the discussion of what you both used to be like before meeting one another. You chatted and shared stories of your past lives, and upon hearing one of his encounters, you learnt something new about yourself - realising how quick you are to feel envy and jealousy. He shared how he used to have multiple hook ups a day, describing how he’d meet one in the noon, and then a couple girls together at nighttime. It was like he was finding humour in it, laughing about how much of a slut he was. But you were struggling to find anything funny about his stories and it actually pissed you off more than anything. Possessive and territorial - even though you didn’t know him those years ago. So to retaliate, you told him your exaggerated body count, sharing lies of how every day in the month of September, you slept with a new person - telling him in detail the encounters of these strangers. It was all lies, but it helped with the strikes of jealousy you were feeling.  And so today, he pulled you aside, a quizzical look on his face as approached the topic running rampant in his mind.  “You uh–” he starts, a small chuckle escaping as if to release the nerves. “The other day…” he prompts, waiting for you to give him something. “Yeah,” you nod, also waiting for him to give you something - you had no idea what he meant. He rubs the back of his neck like he was stalling, as if he was having a hard time getting the words out. “When we were sharing stories. Was yours true?” You laugh, caught by surprise. You wildly shake your head ‘no’, unable to stop yourself from the amusement. “God, no,” you pause. “Dude, you pissed me off so I lied.” He chuckles, mirroring you. “I pissed you off?” “Yes. So bad,” you hum, emphasising with a stern nod. “Talking about all those girls– you really bothered me, man.” “Aw,” he playfully coos, the sound almost like he was mocking you. “You got jealous?” he teases, a sly smile slapped across his face. “Shut up,” you fight off a grin, pushing him away when he tries to kiss you. “Get away. You probably have chlamydia.” “Yeah, I caught it from you after you slept with all those people.”

A Wacky Nonsense of an Idea
Tumblr media
We know nothing about this chaotic darling except she man crazy and she died during the 1950s. Her death appearing to be three gunshot wounds to her torso.
Guess who else we know from the show so far, who died in the 1950's? This guy:
Tumblr media
Wouldn't it be whacky if they caused each others deaths?
My last post, I headcanon Vox being a popular television game show host.
Easy eye candy for Niffty to be infatuated by every night. Niffty was a crazed fan. She sent overwhelming number of weird, creepy occasionally threatening fan letters to him. She eventually tracked him down and started to stalk Vox.
At one point, she broke into his home. Vox called the police but grabbed a gun he had stashed to defend himself with as he waits for help. Thinking the intruder was committing burglary. He pretty well off after all with his fame. But it wasn't a burglary. It was worse. It was crazed Niffty approaching him. He knows her by sight at this point. First time Niffty got to met Vox, Vox immediately knew who she was when she gave her name. She sign her perfumed letters with lipstick stained kisses. She the one with the alarming letters. He try to vacate ASAP. Only for her to show up everywhere he goes He had to file a restraining order on her. Now shes inside his house. She probably saying some really off the wall scary crap she thinks is romantic. Like how shes going to cut his heart out because it always belongs to her.
Vox panicked and shot her. I mean, how can you not when she looks like a human version of this?:
Tumblr media
So the shots were fired when she lunged at him. She always did seem to jump and climb on people during the show. She died by her wounds but her body did land on Vox knocking him down. The fall having him crack his skull on the corner of a console Tv (Those things are sturdy!) Which may explain Vox Tv head.
They didn't live virtuous lives, and well, both end up taking a life so they landed in Hell.
It may give another reason why Alastor adores having Niffty around. After Vox started to make a name for himself, and started his rivalry against Alastor, Alastor happenstance ran into Niffty not long after that. He eventually learned there was a bit of a connection between the two. He befriended her to get information and well, she so chaotic and entertaining! No way Alastor was going to pass up this tiny spitball.
I don't headcanon this at all but its wacky nonsense that is possible.
Did I just created a new weird ship? I hope I did, more chaos into the world!
It may make a decent fun crack fanfic if anyone up for it. Love a link if someone one took it upon themselves to write it.
At the end of this post I got Niffty vibes as crazy Shia Labeouf vibes, and Vox panic fear vitum from that song, actual cannibal Shia Labeouf.

I don’t know if this is a crossover that makes sense but I saw that you like doctor who and MotoGP which are two things I enjoy a lot so if you had to a-sign Valentino, Marc, Casey, Jorge, and Dani as a doctor which doctor would each of them be (the one most like them) and would there be crossovers for who’s who.
ontologically fascinating ask in that the premise supposes all the aliens are essentially variations upon the same guy. and given I do indeed am a known doctor who enjoyer, I will absolutely have a crack at this. obviously some of the aliens will inevitably have more of a doctor-ish vibe than others, which made some of these trickier than others. but this kind of exercise is fun in that it forces you to think of like... the key, non-negotiable character traits you associate with each guy. so here goes
dani: struggled most with this one. I initially thought maybe third doctor - some kind of homage to the samurai styling and three's martial arts thing. idk I could picture dani dropkicking an alien. (literal, not motogp alien... although maybe?) though mainly this pick is about the UNIT team environment. you've got this loner vibe, right, paired with this sense of superiority over some of those you're working with: maybe you've been exiled to earth and have to spend time with a bunch of humans or maybe you have to share a garage with a teammate when you'd really rather not. it's about capturing the energy of early premier class dani who flirts with the line between being kinda shy and awkward versus being a bit of an arrogant prick. the contemptuous vibe the doctor brings to the table... he knows how good he is! boy wonder dani surrounded by people convinced he's going to be the next big thing. a lot of the time three just wants to be left alone to do his work... three's the most grounded doctor (no pun intended) and between the pragmatism and the haughtiness, there is an appeal to this pick
but a different alien is more suited to the third doctor in terms of actual personality, so... for dani, we'll keep the trappings of three, but maybe in terms of actual personality veer a tad closer to nine. very much a big-hearted incarnation of the doctor despite having been thoroughly beaten down by the universe. regret, frustration, a reckoning of sorts with his own ineffectuality... nine's arc of coming to terms with his failure to save others, versus dani's arc of coming to terms with not achieving what people expected him to. nine is a transitional doctor, one who's all about finding himself in the aftermath of loss + tragedy - it's a journey that's very much about finding some measure of peace. reckoning with how painful and unfair the world can be, finding meaning within it anyway. nine's also committed to his worldview, his sense of morality... he's rigid at times, inflexible - though he's sometimes successfully challenged to reassess his beliefs. embraces a little more nuance by the end of his tenure while still never wavering from certain core values... the world might reward cruelty, might be unfair, but nine can choose to fight anyway. commitment to the struggle, even if it's ultimately futile! I'm still not wholly convinced by how good a fit this is because nine's outwardly manic persona is key to his characterisation, but. well. maybe you'd go three's life circumstances with nine's soul (?) with one's gruff exterior. having to make a choice, I'd go nine
jorge: this one's a straight contest between two doctors for me. my first thought was six - you know, the one with the whacky clothes. on a meta level, there is something to how the doctor who showrunners really ramped up the quirkiness to the max with this version of the doctor without figuring out why that had worked with past incarnations. one of my fave things about jorge is that whole process he had to try to figure out his 'character', attempting to construct a persona in this deliberate, self-serious way with constant reference to valentino, reflecting upon everything he did to the point of omphaloskepsis. and six at the start of his tenure was also a bit of an... unfinished product, rough around the edges - just too abrasive a personality to work in this particular show. also one of the most outwardly arrogant incarnations! six is always A Lot, with this flamboyance and passion that just suits theatre-kid-at-heart jorge. and six does calm down, stops trying to be so edgy... idk, to me just a little reminiscent of jorge's evolution. stopped trying to come up with a 'character' that rivals valentino's - which does work rather nicely as a meta-textual parallel with that particular era of doctor who. six might have been stubborn, poorly socialised, sometimes a handful to deal with... but also someone who softened some of the rough edges. it's taken some time, but he's won a lot of fans over. eventually
all that being said, I'm leaning towards the other option here - and bring back three, a better fit for jorge than he is for dani. a lot of the stuff about the working environment applies here too, of course... like, you've got an alien who's being made to work a nine to five job surrounded by actual human beings; the interpersonal interactions tend to be a bit hit-and-miss. three's self-seriousness, his pompousness really work here... his tendency to pontificate, I see the vision for jorge. and - let's not forget - three's run was very much defined by his relationship with the master, who got to actually be a very regular antagonist in that era. that particular dynamic has taken some radically different forms over the years... but the third doctor, for all of his antagonism with the master, brought a certain 'only bitch in this house I respect' vibe to the table. jorge would get obsessed with his old academic rival who keeps showing up to bother him/commit mass murder. after the master's first appearance/mass murder spree, the doctor can barely contain his enthusiasm at the thought of fighting the master again soon. that's jorge, if he were a time travelling alien. going three
casey: right, casey's getting the old soul treatment. the first doctor fits that brief and is also the most irascible incarnation, back in the earliest days of the character when they just wrote him as kinda a dick for a while. do I think casey would abduct two school teachers just because they poked around where they wren't supposed to and pissed him off? well, yes. that sounds like a casey thing to do. the first doctor is stubborn, moody, frequently dismissive of those who aren't as brilliant as him. doesn't trust easily. blunt, pragmatic, sceptical of authority. a bit of a loner. and given he's the first incarnation, he's also the version going through the most culture shock!! not always easy, is it, when you're constantly surrounded by all these [humans/europeans] who baffle you. the first doctor did get to mature a bit, got to have some fun and lean into his natural inclination towards mischief... a piece of work whose heart is mostly in the right place, even if he doesn't always show it particularly well
another option for casey is twelve, another a pick that does kinda work on a meta level. twelve follows on from some massively popular incarnations, keeps dropping all-timer performances that don't always get the appreciation they deserve from the casual fan. the real ones know how goated he is. twelve starts out REALLY surly, not exactly the most outwardly empathetic doctor - let's just say his bedside manner could use a little bit of tweaking. at the same time, twelve's very preoccupied with questions of morality... he has a tendency to be incredibly harsh to those he doesn't feel live up to his standards - ones which at times feel a touch arbitrary, even hypocritical. also very harsh towards himself!! twelve goes in heavy on the self-loathing, pairing an ironclad confidence in his own abilities with plenty of doubts and insecurities. casey's all about confidence - both in the positive sense that he's got a lot of it and knows he can always rely on his obscene levels of talent, but also in the negative sense that he's constantly terrified of letting everyone else down and can have his self-belief shaken under the right circumstances. possibly setting off a streak of crashes. twelve's another quite rigid sort at the start of his tenure, very capable of lashing out at anything in range, though he does chill out a bit. and he's a very kind version of the doctor, principled, got a dry sense of humour... one of the more misunderstood incarnations and still somewhat underappreciated. this is already a good fit to me! but I'd also throw in a wild card tenth doctor in there, for that tendency to think he's always in the right and a reluctance to admit to certain shortcomings - he's just a little less reflective and honest with himself than twelve. a Proper Grudge Holder who went to the resent and remember class of conflict non-resolution. his rather remarkable capacity for self-delusion doesn't hurt with the parallels either. ten's admittedly a bit too happy-go-lucky for casey's whole deal... primarily I'd still say twelve
marc: went the other way from casey with this one and considered the doctors with younger appearances. five would be an interesting pick - an incarnation that really embraced having a young face, who felt like some of his previous incarnations had been trying way too hard to appear old and mature. there's a vibrancy and charm to five that suits marc I feel, cheerful and a tad naive (to the point of being somewhat childish) and wanting to really engage with the universe... he wants to live life to the fullest, wants to have fun out there, rejects cynicism. and for his troubles, five absolutely gets put through the wringer. this is a man acquainted with TRAUMA. full time companions really don't die very often in this show, but one of the defining fifth doctor stories features just that. as he continues getting blows dealt by the universe, he becomes more guarded, wearier, cautious of trusting others. but also... idk, five is a bit too spineless I reckon, lets himself pushed around too much, is too easy to manipulate and too docile in the face of authority - that's not marc
my actual pick is eleven (for meta-narrative points, he follows the incarnation who is seen by many as the archetypal doctor). marc's got this interesting career arc where - because of the age profiles of his competitors and the gap left by the injury years - he's gone from always being the baby to being the old man... with seemingly little time spent in between. eleven's very much all about being an old soul in a young body and is one of the incarnations that best manages to capture that energy - for all the outward exuberance, the mania, this is someone who has seen a lot and hurt a lot and carries that burden with him. eleven has a steeliness to him that works for marc, a cheerful facade that covers a real ruthlessness. a lot of emphasis during eleven's tenure is placed on how much the doctor lies, just constantly deceiving and playing his games and... well! marc! with eleven you do lean into the secrecy and mystique of it all - he's just quite a slippery guy where he does obviously care, where there's a select group of people he loves with all his heart, but he's also plenty capricious and arrogant and is willing to withhold vital information if he thinks he knows best. all about the contrast between the cheery exterior and darker, cunning interior. very marc. eleven
valentino: tough. tough! you can legitimately go at least 4-5 different directions here. a lot of the marc + eleven stuff applies here, though marc fits eleven's coldness a little better I reckon. you can copy and paste everything I said about ten in the casey section here too - they're all traits valentino and casey are aligned on, maybe go even more all in on ten's hubris for valentino. ten's outward demeanour does suit valentino better than casey, with the charm and the cheeriness and the manic energy and all that. and meta-narratively it doesn't hurt how crazy popular ten is, to the point where plenty of the more contrarian fans think he's overrated. he also just keeps coming back... refuses to fade into irrelevance! fans aren't allowed to forget about this bloke, however they feel about him. still, ten's not got quite enough of an edge, doesn't have the self-awareness he needs to lean into some of his nastier traits. another good shout is the second doctor, who kinda revolutionises the game by introducing the concept of regeneration into lore - and is also softer, gentler than his previous incarnation, a bit more capable of communicating with others and performing empathy and all that stuff. and is playful!! might pretend to be the fool to catch others off guard, but is constantly plotting and scheming and has a tendency to be more control of the situation than anyone thinks. it's that element of trickery and mischief that makes me like two as a pick... though, idk, I reckon he's a bit too nice to quite work
on the other end of the spectrum is seven, who was my initial impulse actually. seven is the manipulator, the doctor most willing to coldly maneuver enemies and allies alike to suit his purposes, very secretive... this is the real arsehole doctor. which, y'know, does suit valentino. plus, he's got this paternalistic energy, especially towards his companion ace - this is an era where the doctor/companion relationship is most oriented around the doctor being a teacher. where the seven pick falls apart for me is that there's a real contrast between his early playful personality and then his later manipulative, darker turn. these two sides of him feel in opposition to each other in a way that feels distinctly un-valentino, like with him it's all part of the same package y'know. seven is also a bit too cold and detached... valentino is more emotional, more passionate than that. and seven is a bit too obviously manipulative, that's the number one thing he's known for - you need someone more charismatic and popular than that I reckon. which brings us to four, the most popular incarnation of the character from the classic era who also got some of the highest quality writing, continues to be iconic however much time passes. four is this bohemian weirdo, eccentric but also charming... like the second doctor, he tries to catch others off guard, and he's big on joking around to do just that. he's also moody, at times mercurial, capricious... harsher than he initially seems, with quite a temper. he's also a bit too dispassionate to 100% fit valentino, but still the closest option - so four
in conclusion: loved answering this ask, really made me think lol. I did try to come up with a unique pick for each rather than honing in on the crossovers - though there's still a few doctors I've mentioned for multiple aliens. and also a few more I could probably make a case for, like seven and jorge or twelve and valentino or nine and casey... but you have to cut yourself off somewhere. this did made me realise the key similarity between the doctor as a character and the aliens as a group is the massive ego - partially justified by actual brilliance but still insufferable. I mean, there's also some crucial differences, like how the doctor is a selfless hero who goes around saving planets while the aliens are egocentric tax evasion-inclined athletes who mainly just care about winning motorcycle races. but apart from that, there's a decent amount of common ground yeah

I love Elriels but sometimes theories can be a little much. like with this 👇🏻
“Elain had already departed with Feyre, claiming she had to be up with the dawn to tend to an elderly faerie’s garden. Cassian didn’t exactly know why he suspected this wasn’t true. There had been some tightness in Elain’s face as she’d said it. Normally when she made such excuses, Lucien was around, but the male remained in the human lands with Jurian and Vassa.”
I see people saying Elain was meeting with Azriel’s mother to practice her seer abilities, or she was going to meet with some high fae to find the dread troves, and some other crack theories.
Now this scene took place at the riverside estate, where they have monthly dinner meetings. Azriel was literally there. and i’m pretty sure she was avoiding him— not in the way she avoids lucien (of course, duh) but the way Azriel tries to avoid her, because of their FEELINGS for each other. if they are around each other, it makes it much harder to hide their feelings.
but i don’t know, maybe Elain was going to meet with… somebody. but i really think SJM was just trying to emphasize on how much Elain and Azriel both crush on each other. and how shy they act with each other (she wrote Elain literally looking away from his smile:) but what do you think?
I agree with you on both fronts, Anon.
I always thought the same--Elain left the table because of Azriel. It was just another hint of mutual attraction. Azriel was avoiding her, and she was avoiding him. It's that simple.
As for 'theories'--I think we always need to remember that theories are different from headcanons. That goes for everyone. Just like Elain is not madly in love with Lucien and is so enthralled by his pheromones that she wants to jump Azriel's bones since she can't control herself (Eluciens' 'theory') or that Azriel and Gwyn's mate bond snapped in Sangravah and she asked Rhys to daemati Azriel so he wouldn't remember, so she could heal (Gwynriel theory), so is the whole 'Elain is a witch' or some whacky shapeshifting theories in regard to --all in good fun, but let's be honest, it's just wild headcanons.
Hello I wrote a whole fanfic full of my personal headcanons regarding Elriel and Az's mother and shapeshifting and fanged beasts. But these are HCs and MAYBE something will come to pass, but I can admit that it's not real though it feels a little real.
Yeah, SJM is not gonna do anything off page with Elain. Or Azriel.

ahhhhhh, sorry for the delayed answer (american long weekend whoops and i was away from my laptop)
I choose the klaroline fic meat ugly, which was an incredibly whacky fic. it wasn't originally meant to be klaroline, it started as a crack fic idea for jack harkness/ianto jones, a torchwood ship. there's a tumblr post floating out there with my whole main idea, but it never actually happened. when time came for the kc autumn exchange, i decided to go really cracky and just write this one and it's certainly... something. ridiculous. i still happen to think it's pretty fun, and i hope other people thought that too. it's just starring klaus and caroline as two petty terrible people who fall in love lol.

I’m so sorry people are being dicks on your fics! I for one am here for your whacky shenanigans and perfectly in character crack that works way better than it has any right to.
Thank you so much. Honestly switching to archive locked on AO3 cut down on so much of that, it was a surprise that I got one dumbass comment, let alone two in two different fandoms on the same day.
I love how you describe my writing here, because it is absolutely what I am aiming for in my fic. I love being silly but as in character as possible.
One of my favourite comments I received on ao3 was "I quite like your approach to reckless absurdity."
I am here to have fun, and just hope my readers are having fun with it too.

FIPTION: There Is A Crack In The World (Review)
So, I finally finished "There Is A Crack In The World", the largest part of my fiction reading trade with @fipindustries. It's taken me a while, and I haven't spoken about it much here as I read, sending my in the moment thoughts to Fip directly, instead. Part of the reason I didn't finish it sooner was because I am abroad, and I've been distracted by not being in my own home, hanging out with my boyfriend, actually hanging out with Fip in person, but regardless; I am done now and here are my thoughts.
Crack in the World is a really interesting book for a lot of reasons. There are a bunch of things I didn't like about it, and a bunch of things I really did like about it, and it's fascinating for me how those things intersect. I'll start with my biggest criticisms; the writing itself is very one-and-done, unedited prose, which, combined with this being a novel written in a second language, results in text that feels fairly sloppy in parts, spattered with spelling and syntactic errors, odd sentence phrasing that needs a second eye making adjustments. There are some moments where I can feel the author had a clear picture in her head, but where the details didn't come out as clearly as might have been liked to the reader. These issues would be the biggest barrier to this getting published properly one day, but it's also arguably the most straightforward to fix; the book just needs a thorough editing pass, either by Fip or another editor. The intent is clear enough that I think someone could fix up these issues without any author input, and indeed I found myself doing so in my head as I read. The core meaning is solid, and so when thinking about the book I am going to largely ignore the typographical stuff, the narrative now feels fairly accurately transcribed into my head where I can prod at it as a consolidated story, and it is that story that I'll be reviewing.
The important context for CitW is that it was written when the author was, per her description, dealing with having been in a pretty bad place, and so the tone that the novel seeks to strike is a pretty grimdark one. According to the aftermath post linked at the end, parts of it were an exercise at writing "unrepentant misery porn". Maybe I am desensitised to dark fiction, but a lot of the book didn't really come off that way to me, but in a way that's almost to Fip's credit; even when she's trying to write a dark and miserable story, Fip's delight in writing about whacky characters playing out dynamic adventure narratives comes through in many places, and so the book's dystopic setting feels more Mad Max than 1984. The setting is dark and grim, but it's a cartoonish kind of grim that is, to be frank, mostly just sort of fun. There's a teenage edginess to a lot of it, which Fip has talked about being an accurate description of the mindset for some scenes. The times when that edginess doesn't work are, ironically, when the book really tries to be dark but in a way that pushes into being too crass to be endearing. There's a lot of blood and gore, which I appreciate, but then there are anal rape and shit jokes, which I do not, it feels a little bit too immature and too aspirationally edgy. I think some of that is regretted in retrospect. It doesn't detract too much from the overall feel, though.
The plot is also surprisingly straightforward, not as labyrinthine as I had expected at its core, a fairly conventional dual-protagonist adventure arc culminating in crossed paths (with several side-vignettes, as I discuss later). The ending is dark and follows up on the themes of hopelessness the most effectively of anything in the novel. After the entire book, I think that the background thematic radiation has built up enough for it to be earned, by that point. The final chapter and epilogues are a little fast and blunt, but not unworkably so.
There are two big strengths to the book, two things that I really liked. The first is the characters; Fip is primarily a visual/comics artist and you can really tell, even via writing alone, that she really likes coming up with cool characters with their own specific emotional vibe, and setting them off to interact with each other. These are guys who all feel like they should come with their own splash screen, tag line and iconic halloween costume. There's something almost superhero comic strip about the iconic identities of the characters, about their specific skills and motivations, true even for those that don't actually have their own "superpowers". But don't get me wrong, there's plenty of superhuman individuals on display, here; we have impossibly tenacious gun-wielding assassins, murderous, practically invulnerable clown girls, jungle mercenaries using anti-air rifles as a personal pogo stick, Russian mobster types, a literal dark lord... It's very whacky and fun when you get down to it, which is what really tempers the intended grimdark tone. You might fear that there's some dissonance there but it merges into something unique and interesting. That said, perhaps a more tightly edited version could change some passages with that in mind.
The second thing I really liked was that the story is used as a sort of... Stage setting for a bunch of smaller, more contained narratives, almost smaller parables (sometimes literal parables) that slot into the story. These are clearly separate ideas that were floating around in the author's head, and a lot of them are more tightly written than parts of the main narrative, more fully formed from the start. The two interlude chapters are the clear standouts in the whole work, and both are examples of writing in the style of these little vignettes. I do almost wish that the rest of the story was more integrated to match, there is a risk a few times of the non-sequitur insertions coming across as a little piecemeal, but this becomes less of an issue near the end - the second interlude is at once its own thing but is deeply connected to the rest of the story, and it makes absolute sense that it comes when it does.
One thing that the vignettes also highlight is the difference between pre-planned narrative trajectory/pacing and the "write on the fly" nature of the rest of the novel. There are some times where, in comparison, the "standard" chapters are at risk of tripping off required plot occurrences by rote without dwelling on them, and it's most notable by contrast. Keeping the little sub-stories in the novel is well with it though, and the pacing issue could be fixed with editing.
Other little things I liked: the bounce back and forth between protagonists in alternating chapters was very fun, and helped keep the pace up. I liked seeing the world from different perspectives, and from characters with very different roles in the world. For that matter, I liked the world itself; the worldbuilding was fun, if a little tropey, and I enjoyed trying to dissect the lore. There were a few things that didn't hold up to scrutiny lore-wise in retrospect, but that's understandable given the serial publishing. On the other hand, there was a lot of cool thematic stuff and character foreshadowing that was clearly planned well in advance and paid off really well. I'm avoiding specifics due to spoilers, but there are a lot of fun surprises in this novel!
So that is There Is A Crack In The World. Not a perfect book by any means, but a lot of fun and vibrant ideas. Fip has been sending me her excellent artwork for the story, which really adds a lot, and that compounds my desire to see this adapted as a sort of pulp graphic novel, given an ideal world. At it is, if there is future development of the story to be had it would be in a thorough editing pass. This is not required, however; the story is a fine artefact as it exists on its own, as rough around the edges as it may be, it tells an interesting and satisfying tale of some very cool characters. It's a shame I didn't get through it faster, but I'm very glad I took the time.
Great job Fip. Next up I read The Milkman (although that may also be slow coming; my preemptive apologies).

I feel like I have no where I can talk about what’s wrong anymore, I way over share here and no one wants to read about all my problems. I foolishly though maybe talking about it might help other people going through similar things but all it does is bum people out or annoy them because no one wants to hear about complaining. I can’t talk to my parents because I am on a literal pedestal for them and they see me as this bastion of strength and resolution. There’s also the religious factor they’re disgustingly Catholic and I worship a crocodile I don’t want to hear their God will take care of me, I want to hear about mine feasting on the flesh of whoever did this to me. My brothers are useless and don’t under any aspects of how difficult my life has been so they can’t provide any comfort. I can’t talk to my partner because they are emotionally shut down, they can’t communicate about difficult emotions and topics because adhd and autism. I can’t talk to my boyfriend because I’ve been lying to him and telling him nothing is that wrong. I can’t talk to my physiatrist because she’ll just talk about radical acceptance and how I just have to except bad shit happens and I can’t change which I understand but it doesn’t make me any less sad, or scared or upset. I can’t talk to my friends because they’re going though awful things too and don’t need my misery on top of their own. They don’t deserve that after everything they’ve done for me. I can’t post on FB because everyone just ignores it or my Aunt comments the little prayer emoji as if that does something. I can’t talk to my IRL friends for the exact same reasons as my friends and family, to my IRL friends I’m an unmovable force that can’t be fucked with because I handle everything so well. Well it’s all just a fucking lie, I just don’t let any of them see me falter, I don’t let them see the cracks, the terrified tears, the meltdown, rock bottom. I’m there alone, just like I’ve always been, just like I always will be but if so hard not to have an outlet anymore. I’m sick of annoying my moots and followers, I’m supposed to be a fun fandom blog who just talks about Bi-Han’s tiddies and icicle and posts smut and bad fanart. I’m not supposed to be a real person behind that and people don’t want to know the real Sol, they just wanna know silly, whacky, horny for Bi-Han Sol, and I don’t blame anyone. I just don’t know what to do. I need to be able to get things off my chest but in a way it won’t annoy anyone but I refuse to do journaling. That’s horseshit and then you always have someone who wants to read it, my partner, my Mother, my psychiatrist and then it’s like no fuck you didn’t listen before you don’t get to read it now. There’s just no good solution. Maybe I could just set the posts to private so people don’t have to see it? Would that work? Then only downside with that though is what if I did post something that helped someone and then no one would see it? Fuck me. There’s just no good solution. I guess going forward I’ll just do my best to keep everything to myself. I can’t annoy anyone that way.

2 and 4!
2. What’s your favorite episode and why?
Just - just one? No cheating with top list? Alright. I can do that. Imma go with the Runaway Club based on the infinite number of times I've watched it pffft.
The parody opening cracked me up and the flashback scene is 👌👌👌 I love the shenanigans with the kiddos, the iconic one-liners, the silly outfits, Tina and Tammy's sparkly bracelets sass battles ("You wanna go, Tammy? Wanna go?! Yeah!"). Mr. Frond is lovably distraught and absurd as always. Ms. Schnur is mooood and god I love Mr. Branca so much (someone needs to get him a centric episode about his president days, i am HOOKED)
The B plot at the restaurant is amusing too. That unhinged lady and snappy turtle line are hilarious. I'm also a huge enjoyer of Bob & Jimmy Pesto's childish rivalry, so plus that too :]]
All in all, perfect episode. I really want to pick a more impactful ep as my fav but eh, this one sits on the top
4. What’s your favorite setting to explore in the Bob’s Burgers universe?
Hmm, i'm torn between the Wharf & Wagstaff. All the most bizzare things on earth occurred at the Wharf (duh, it's the Fischoeders, we ain't ever expecting a normal day with those folks) which always got me super engaged. I'm so glad the movie lets us explore more of it's secrets and settings. The carnies are such fun characters too
But I love Wagstaff so much with all the kids characters and staff faculty. It's amazing how they can come up with such entertaining storylines at the school. Intense voting season for a school president, two kids and their gang getting on a musical battle, a fashion show on Saturday detention, a nine-year-old kiddo on her busy principal's schedule. Everything's so whacky and fun!

hewo beloved moda. :3 thankoo for froots
Who’s a character you don’t write for that often, but keep meaning to write for more? (They’re so interesting! But maybe you have trouble pinning them down, or keep getting distracted by another blorbo…)
fucking shouto todoroki. i am constantly distracted by deku and bkg to even think about the two shouto wips i have in my docs. weeps. i'll get to them one day lmaoo.
also yamato. he deserves fic. but i am also so very lazy... my love is clearly weak...
Rank from most enjoyable/fun to write to least: Fluff, Smut, Angst, Crack.
Crack -> Fluff -> Angst -> Smut
What is crack anyway? I mean is it different from when I was an young'n? Back then crack was like balls to the walls insane stuff... I don't think i write anything that whacky?
I think angst can be fun if I am feeling evil.
And uh. Smut's hard. Too hard.
What’s your favorite trope/AO3 tag to write?
Ven also asked this but hmmm Is there another answer.... I was going to say 'unresolved sexual tension' but I think that is actually the name of the trope i was describing LMAOOO. SO YEAH UNRESOLVED SEXUAL TENSION it doesn't get resolved because smut is hard LMAO.

Random question! What are your five favorite YouTube channels?
Dearest Nonnie~ I'm the absolute worst for replying so late!!! [Bows a million times] Sorrysorrysorry! 😭😭😭
An honourable mention would go out to any channel that uploads a show I wish to binge~ 👍 The unsung heroes of our time!
[Cracks knuckles] Alrighty, in no particular order:
Abroad in Japan Chris' dry sense of humour has me rolling! 🤣🤣 Thoroughly enjoy his Journey Across Japan vids with mates Natsuki and Connor (CDawgVA) and all their shenanigans traversing the country. He's so entertaining and always enjoy learning more about Japan. Speaking of Connor...
CDawgVA Another hilarious Youtuber based in Japan! Originally started watching him for his insanely side-splitting and impressive Anime impressions (namely Sebastian Michaelis from Black Butler or Levi Ackerman from Attack on Titan) and even though he no longer uploads that sorta content I don't think (?), all his other series are just as enjoyable! Whether it's crane games, trying every [insert food/drink] in Japan, or Whacky Weekend collabing with Chris Abroad or anyone really, he's just so much fun to watch.
Saberspark Saber reviews animation of just about every kind. Think he was more into just obscure adult cartoons in the past, but has since gotten into all sorts, from popular to unknown to forgotten to insanely bizarre. He puts a lot of effort into his research; looking into a show/movies' history, the company that animated it, the people behind it, and all matter of juicy titbits in its regard, all in all while reviewing it fairly yet still in an entertaining manner.
Love2DrawManga Such an adorable, cosy channel! Love watching Bekah's art vids and how soft spoken she is. Her style is beautiful and the amount of love she gives to her OCs is so heart-warming.
C. C. Creations I don't know what I would do without CC's spoiler vids for Star Stable Online! She's really saved my @$$ Star Coins a bunch of times by sharing what's to come in the game.
There are of course a ton more, but these are the five that came to mind first. It can also alter according to my mood, such as when I'm fixating on a certain franchise, then others that upload content specifically for that interest may come up before these, it all really just depends. 🤷‍♀️
Many thankies for the Ask, Nonnie, and deepest apologies for the insanely late reply!

Played: 8-Oct-2023 Playtime: around 45min (im slow) Rating: - [IFComp vote] Thoughts: But what if you tricked the devil?
============= Review
Dr Ludwig and the Devil is a small parser game, where Dr Ludwig recounts a time where he made a deal with the Devil, and find a way to keep his soul. The parser is fairly beginner friendly, including an external walkthrough and in-game hints. I used the walkthrough to solve some puzzles.
Spoilers ahead. It is recommended to play the game first. The review is based on my understanding/reading of the story.
If the blurb didn't catch your eye, the introduction inside the game surely should. Mixing Drs. Faust and Frankenstein lore with a good dash of humour, Dr Ludwig and the Devil is a delightful small parser cracking laughs left and right. From the witty dialogue, to the descriptions of rooms, reading through the pages of a book or failing to act accordingly, the game just wants to make you cackle*. It is here for a good and fun time! *also... why do you mean you can't do magic in France >.<
There's a lot to love about the game: the puzzles are reasonably simple, but you get plenty of help if needed (thank you for the hints!); the characters are all delightful in their own way, and have a whacky reason to be where they are; the overall shtick of the game is just fun to boot! It is entertaining and there is never a dull moment.
While I don't have much experience in what's to be expected or not in a parser in terms of puzzles, I found the whole mechanic with the devil pretty interesting (it was fun to order him around, hehehe). And if you mess up (which I did quite a bit), you don't get punished for it - you just get a witty response before you're sent on your way.
The characters are still the highlight of the game, from the mad scientist striving to attain godhood - oh but oops something keep going wrong and now I'm being chased out of my manor again - to the pitchfork mob acting like a HOA* with their contracts, every character in this game has a special flavour of wittiness and charm, with jokes to boot! Interacting with the NPCs, especially diving into plain regular conversations with them, adds a delightful layer to the game (they're just like us, normal peeps with normal problems**). *also... the head of the group is a illiterate legalese lover. xD **honestly, I might side with the pitchforks after talking with them...
Fun time!
