everyone's always on wwx's case about his social graces but he had the right to clown jzx in the beginning after jzx kicked them out with nowhere to stay simply because he didn't want to "mingle with the common folk." my point being that when jzx kicks out the jiang contingent even though they're both going to the same cr lectures and he is betrothed to the jiang's eldest daughter, insults their clan and then later slanders his betrothed publically, that's hardly worth pointing fingers at—it's only when wwx matches that disrespect when etiquette becomes a problem. does wwx really lack manners and understanding of proper conduct or does he just lack the privilege to escape punishment for taking his peers to task for their own pointed disrespect and ill-mannered behavior? on a cql rewatch, i'm really struck by how active wwx is in the face of injustice even from the beginning, and he is often still scolded for it while others reap the rewards of his questioning. and if you love jyl but don't condone her #1 ride or die wwx in his defense of her honor you are a FAKE jyl stan i'm saying it now!!!

I've said it before but I LOVE the wen indoctrination camp opening as an introduction to all of the characters involved. it's episode 12, so we already have a grasp of their personalities and relationships, but the first few scenes with wen chao so perfectly capture everybody's values and roles in the story. it's just such masterful writing

wei wuxian, who is arrogant and unafraid, who offers his sword freely to protect his sect, and because nothing can make him flinch. he plays off his stunt reading the lan sect rules as a cocky show of rebellion, and it is that, but at it's core it's a signal to everyone that he won't roll over, and a message to lan wangji that he's on his side. it's an active ploy to try and get a moment to speak to lan wangji alone. wei wuxian is smart, and principled, and arrogant, and this scene shows it all

and there's jiang cheng, who from the start is so concerned with appearances. who thinks the only way to make his sect look good is to play along. he's outraged at wen chao's audacity at the same time that he fears the repercussions of standing up to it. and he's proven right - standing up to wen chao Does have consequences. he's as well versed in politics as he is a coward

lan wangji, who is principled enough to stand up to wen chao but so out of his element. he can't be loud like wei wuxian can but he can be quiet. he can refuse to engage. he can shut down. he can be proud and still and cold and not bend to wen chao's demands. and the silence pisses off the wens almost as much as wei wuxians noise

jin zixuan is proud and boastful and doesn't back down. he's not used to his name and his money not backing him up, and he almost pays for it. HE'S arrogant too, in a different way than wei wuxian is. he doesn't know how to weild it to get what he wants. and as much as he dislikes wei wuxian, he's willing to respect him in the face of a common enemy

and nie huaisang, who never cared for cultivation much anyway, who avoids conflict any way he can, offering forward his sword without protest or show. he's quiet, too, like lan wangji, but where lan wangji's silence has a presence, his is unassuming. but he comments on wei wuxians audacity with admiration. and later when he faints, and is not seen for the rest of the arc, thus avoiding the nightmare everyone else is about to go through, you have to wonder if it was on purpose

People who are against adding a TV section to Letterboxd don't know my pain as a Doctor Who fan.

Most if not all of classic Who is already on LB, along with the new Who specials. Currently they're all classified as movies, as far as I can tell. And it seems like some other shows present in the database, like Black Mirror or BBC Sherlock, are in the same boat. I can't add episodes from these shows to my account without horribly diluting my actual movie statistics — exactly the thing that people fear would happen after the update. If LB manage to solve the genuinely difficult problem of making a clear UI for television that is broken down into shows/seasons/episodes and doesn't interfere with the movie section, it would make the website more clean and organized, not less.
