I'm always like "yeah sure I'm no expert but I'm relatively familiar with PC tech terminology" until I'm actually trying to shop for PC components
#me: I'd like to go back to having a proper tower so I'll just do some light research on current specs :)#website: The ASRock B660M Pro RS Micro ATX LGA1700 Motherboard supports the Intel Core i5-13400 2.5 GHz 10-Core Processor with BIOS version#The Thermalright Peerless Assassin 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler may require a separately available mounting adapter#We are filtering for a 2x16GB kit of DDR4 RAM with a speed of at least DDR4-3200 and a CAS latency of 16 or lower.#me: you are saying devil incantations at me

Here I am streaming the exact same movie with my methods 8x may have been an underestimation (especially since this will probably taper off as the streaming CPU starts predicting bits that need to be accessed next). With these numbers it was actually a 25x increase in hardware load. So, maybe consider avoiding transcoding unless you're willing to really spend on the hardware.
#load average is the number of tasks waiting for CPU time over a span#this is the one minute average#the percent is taken by dividing that number by the number of logical cores present

watching anyone do modern things on old hardware and like yes sometimes that hardware is slow bc it was a bad product even at the time, but damn you're just showing how shit modern software is. like not being funny but i should be able to load the videos website on a single core cpu and i should be able to watch 480p, maybe even 720p flawless w/ some graphics acceleration. heck even 1080p if the OS is light enough
#daemon.md#techblr#i just#you don't need 8+ cpu cores on a modern efficient architecture that can turbo to 4+ghz and 8GB ram and a fucking rtx whatever#not to watch youtube and play basic games#and write documents#and play music

(It was me, I'm the bitch)
#kerytalk#ok to be fair I was running two copies of blender and one was open on this file with a shader map that looked like factorio#because I was trying to figure out how BG3 textures work to rebuild them#I should have probably double checked the render engine was set to the right setting on the file I downloaded that I was examining#because blender is a FUCKING BITCH WHO KEEPS PUTTING IT ON CPU RENDER#ugh I need those fans#AMD chip runs like the sun#Karlach core in my PC#hahahah#at least this only happens when I'm doing stupid shit in blender#I mean I could look at the thermal paste but that requires unscrewing my cooler and I really don't wanna#and all idle temp readouts are in normal ranges so idk man#probably just my case fans are shite

These are scalper prices nvidia has moved onto the rtx 5xxx series (these ARE insanely overpriced for little performance increase but even the 5090's price is supposed to top out around 3.1k) I see 4090s around the mid to high 1000's on ebay.
Also the 60fps benchmarks you saw were likely with all settings maxed out, 4k res probablly rtx if it has it, most reasonable people have a 1080p or 1440p monitor and when paired with a decent enough gpu it shouldnt be too hard to acheive 60+fps with some tweaking.
I have an rtx 3080 12gb (about 400 used for the 10gb version) and its been more than satisfactory for every game ive played that had some attempt at optimization. If i hadnt stupidly broken my 2080ti i would still be happily using it, im still using the 9900k i got with it from 2018, its admitedly spitting fire at 5.1ghz but its still keeping up. We all really need to be less afraid of buying used and older computer parts, recent tech innovations seem to be adding extra features like ray tracing or new dlss versions, NOT huge increases in performance. Theres all kinds of wonderfully useful tech all around us and especially on ebay that will last for many more years!
Not that i doubt that monster hunter wilds is also very poorly optimized, so many modern games are and it does need to stop. Marvel rivals brings my 3080 to its knees without dlss or low settings and for some reason it struggles to fully utilize my cpu usually capping around 80 to 90% even if i have gpu headroom left.
Everyone is talking about Monster Hunter Wilds performance on a 4090 so looked up how much a 4090 is and my jaw dropped.
"Hmm, do I want 60 fps in monster hunter's badly optimized pc port or a Fucking Car?"
#also i saw some people saying its pretty cpu heavy#and if your cpu isnt up to snuff it doesnt matter if you have a 5090ti!#in the finals i have everything maxed out at 1440p and my system is still bottlenecked at the cpu because the games just#so damn cpu intensive with its destruction#i actually got my 9900k at 5.1ghz all cores 47 ring ratio and my 2400mhz ram oced to 3100mhz just to keep over 110fps when stuff gets hecti#im really feeling the bottleneck though im probablly gonna upgrade soon and im gonna have too cause im prolly gonma fry this 9900k#if it does fry its had a good life and ive enjoyed it plenty besides 200$ could get me 50% more performance nowadays in the cpu market#and that includes the mobo#ive seen 12th and 13th gen cpus under 100 used on local markets

Waow, turns out making sure your thermal paste is still wet + blowing dust out + making sure the primary cooling fan is plugged into the right port, can completely revolutionize a pc build!
#mine#okay. hear me out. sysfan is system controlled fan right? I thought I could tell the system to cool the cpu#a normal person might have looked twice for the port labelled cpu fan but here we are#I've gone from 50+c idle temp to 29c fucking rip to whetevers left of my chip lmao#I also tuned down my frequency by 1 mghz to keep the core clock under 4k and it's soooo fucking happy
