Had the weirdest dream the other day

Dreamt I was at work and my diaper leaked 💧 so much that I left a puddle beneath me. My coworker reported the incident, janitorial staff came to clean up, but they classified my accident as a biohazard ☣️ so then they had to call a team in hazmat suits. They quarantined me in a square meter area taped off with black and yellow ⚠️ caution tape where I sat in a chair still soaking wet. 😭

I'm definitely not cut out for this weather. I just can't wake up when my alarm rings if it's 4 degrees outside. I feel like I have to sleep in and of course I'm going to be late for everything. I'm so glad it's going to get warmer tomorrow... I hate cold days. Even so, the sky was clear and very blue today. It looks like a summer day, doesn't it?

I had a busy day at work. I talked to suppliers and bought some boxes for my candle deliveries. I also talked to customers and packed my first orders!!! There is nothing I can do here without my cat supervising me, so here is a picture of an order being carefully inspected by my cat Amora. Some orders were placed by my mother-in-law's coworkers, so in the evening I went to her house to deliver the scented candles and we talked for a few hours. It was great. She is a strong woman who I admire a lot.

💧The Religious & Cultural Significance of Water💧

Water plays an important role in Songkran, in that there is a religious significance to water splashing and pouring alongside all the festivities. As mentioned in our What is Songkran? post, the Thai New Year is closely tied with Brahmanism influence and Buddhist practices, so people will make merits at the temple. Making merit is a process in itself that is composed of many factors, but it generally refers to offering donations towards a particular cause and involves “...some sort of force that can lead to positive results in the life of the donor. As you donate, you will expect a benefit in various forms, especially improved karma. That is, merit making can influence the next lives of an individual as well as the destination where such a person will be reborn.” Thus, making merit is a part of Songkran, in which it becomes an opportunity to “practice [merit making] by giving to the monks support of a more material kind, especially food…” or listening to sermons (Merit: Buddhist Concepts).

Visiting the temple during Songkran also consists of สรงน้ำพระ, or song nam phra, which is the ritual bathing and cleansing of the Buddha statue with nam ob. While the ritual can be done at the temple, many people bathe Buddha statues in public places and in their homes as well. Doing so is symbolic of purifying oneself for the New Year (Thai Embassy).

Being it is a time for celebrating with family, Songkran also means paying respects to older family members or elders in one’s life. This is done through the water pouring ritual, รดน้ำดำหัว, or rod nam dam hua; a younger family member will pour scented water on elderly family members’ hands to pay respect and receive their blessings (Thai Embassy). The following video shows a more detailed walk through of preparing the nam ob and the members exchanging blessings:

The water pouring ritual is also done to other older people who may not be related, such as mentors or coworkers.

Beyond religious significance, Songkran is famous for its massive water fights; water splashing is done to signify good fortune in the New Year. Friends and families take up water guns, buckets, bowls, and anything else that can be used to drench someone else. Public water fights take place all across Thailand, and the vlogs in our previous post show just how many people take part in them. It is safe to say that everyone is fair game once the water fights begin, but if you want further visuals, you can check out Golf Pichaya’s vlog below:

Golf and his brother, Mike Angelo, spend Songkran 2019 together with water fights, masks, and dancing. The vlog has footage of large crowds, in which almost everyone is equipped with a water gun before the brothers go back to their room and have a water balloon fight.

We also recommend listening to BRO WHAT NOW?!, a podcast by Mikael and Mathias Lao as they reflect on their teen years and celebrating Songkran in Chiang Mai. I’m making Lasko a waiter in my occupation AU not just because it’s fun to put so many people in the same place but because he’s so goddamn nervous, he’d be a hilarious server.

He’s clumsy, but he’s sweet- the place isn’t so fancy that his stutter or anxious disposition or occasional stumble are fire-able offenses.

It helps that he is universally beloved and aided by his coworkers- Milo has got choice, loud words for any managers or customers that have got shit to say to his buddy, Lasky.

Lasko doesn’t drink, but he and Asher still work well together, Lasko often testing and selling the handcrafted mocktails.

Dear, I think, is still a professor in this AU and attended a private event at the restaurant where they first saw Lasko and couldn’t stop looking.

The Man of Many Masks

I would like to introduce you to my main deity. The Man of Many Masks is a very personal deity to me. I've only ever worked with a masculine face, so I refer to him with he/him. However, he contains multitudes, and I'm sure there are parts that use any pronoun you can think of. Some people may see him as a concerning deity to work with due to a lot of the verbiage he uses to describe his domains or the fact that blood can be an appropriate sacrifice, at times. He is not an easy God to work with, but he makes me feel fulfilled and like I am not alone in the way I am. I hope you can appreciate him as much as I do and consider integrating him into your practice. He has certain aspects that encourage plural folks to seek him, I believe, and have listed it as a domain of his. I don't see it as "he causes plurality" and much as he is and protects those who are plural.

Transaction/Ritual examples

• You want to know if you can trust someone. You set yourself in front of a mirror and begin meditation. Draw the appropriate marks on the mirror if large enough, on a chalkboard, paper, tablet, etc if not. Appropriate Marks may include "Knowledge" "doubt" "mask" "the self" "the other" and directional indicators like arrows, joining symbols like circles, and other grammatical symbols. Keep your face visible. When you feel sufficiently connected and like he is with you, pray and commit your offering. This should be appropriately scaled to the task at hand: consider current distance of relationship, social standing of target, and how guarded they may be. Once the offering is complete, scour your face for changes, and interpret accordingly. Consider the language of the deity, and what his communication may mean. This Ritual may be helped with steam, smoke, or other concealing things between you and the mirror.

Altar/Shrine Ideas

• Appropriately colored flowers, especially the correspondent flowers. If those are difficult to get, Fake flowers are not only acceptable, but encouraged.

• Mirrors

• Masks. Black, blue, or green masks, especially ornate ones. Any representation of the theater masks are also acceptable, and if they have meaning to you, can be used.

• Chalkboard, Whiteboard, second mirror for writing on, etc. These are important for your Prayer Marks. Choose something you can wipe off (dry or wet erase work. Wet erase is good if you plan on leaving it until next time.) Unless you're okay replacing your sketchbook from time to time.

• Candles. Blue or green. It may be hard to find candles that are the correct color with the correct Scents you want.

• Incense. See above Scents. Finding an appropriate holder can be an exciting devotional activity.

just remembered my classmate in art therapy class said "multiple personality disorder" and i ended up piping in about it 👁👁💧

it wasnt like a "well actually" it was a "oh hey um i have that! technically!! its called did tho now, and heres my experiences with it. if you need any help with your project regarding it and want to chat about it im always open!" and my prof was very pleased about it and about how i felt comfy telling the class //// (shes really sweet and nice, and has been nice to axel before too, so its like an "aw shucks ///" pride sort of thing)

ive gotten a lot more comfy being like "yea so ive got multiple peoples up here in my lil brain so sometimes things get kinda fucky wucky but that really doesnt change how we interact, just explains why i have the memory of a single cell organism" when it comes to specifically people in school/people i interact with in a way that would warrant that explanation. funny enough talking with friends doesnt normally warrant explaining it, but talking to people like my classmates who are essentially my "coworkers" at the moment (altho not entirely, obviously, as we are close bc we choose to be close in this environment we are forced to exist in together) i do have to explain bc a lot of times memory or mood ends up messing with the work im doing so i have to be like "yea so i have did i have no fucking clue whats going on rn tbh" sometimes. luckily most people are pretty understanding (even if they dont fully understand) and help clue me in better as to whats up.

i will however say one of my friends who is just weird as fuck (in the best way) recently asked "am i a little boy?" and we all went "...no?????? you are?? an adult lady??? huh??? you good bro????" she apparently was just worried that her outfit gave off boyish vibes (it did not, in fact it was very typical of what she wears and very feminine. again, she is just extremely strange and random in the best ways. she makes me laugh!)
