Over the last year, I have found myself gravitating towards anthologies and collections of stories more and more. I used to read these a lot (and write some) when I was in highschool and I'm excited to be reading them again. I also hope this might inspire me to start writing more too.
This particular collection of stories is synonymous with, "a bundle of joy!" (not the baby kind, but definitely equally cute and swoon worthy).
I started reading this book because not only is it a collection of short stories but also because the stories are set in COVID times. If you follow me on Twitter you know I have not so patiently been waiting for this since the pandemic was declared. These stories did not disappoint and as Irfan aptly noted, "these stories are better together rather than apart". (By the way Irfan, I'm so thankful for our COVID friendship. Our story should be in a collection like this!)
So many of the stories left a goofy grin on my face, making this the perfect, "life is overwhelming" read. The majority of the stories also made me very hungry, which is totally fine and very authentic since most of our lives have revolved around food during the pandemic and lockdowns. Pretty sure I have annoyed most of my friends and new acquaintances with all my talk about food! Sorry y'all.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to sit here for a moment and bask in the wonderful feeling of having read such a lovely bunch of stories.

We were able to cap off a fantastic weekend by going on a hike to the top of Blomidon to try and work off all the Apple Crisp and Cider we’ve been putting down range. But I also took the opportunity to let @twilight_leigh channel her inner Vanna by helping me get a snap shot of this month’s books. She was a good sport about it 😘 October’s books included #18 and #19 of the Sharpes series, ‘Sharpe’s Siege’ where Sharpe is besieged in a ruined fortress outside Bordeaux on foolhardy naval excursion, and ‘Sharpe’s revenge’ where he and his riflemen track down and get his revenge on influential French officer Pierre Ducos. Also read this month was Steven Pressfield’s ‘Gates of Fire’ about the Spartan’s at Thermopylae and Karl Marlantes’ ‘Matterhorn’ about a Marine Infantry platoon at the height the of Vietnam War. Both books have been heavily featured on @kill.z0n3 ‘s page as of late. They are incredibly profound books and they certainly should be required reading for all Service Personnel! And finishing off this month was a semi autobiography of Navy SEAL Admiral William McRaven as a follow up to his ‘Make Your Bed’ self-help book. Overall a very successful month of reading! Looking forward to getting some more pages down range as the days get shorter and the weather gets colder 👌🍂! #blomidon #hike #bookstagram #octoberreads #covidreads #AppleCrisp #applecider #bernardcornwell #sharpessiege #sharpesrevenge #gatesoffire #stevenpressfield #matterhorn #karlmarlantes #seastories #williammcraven #girlfriend #pose #wannabevannawhite (at Blomidon Provincial Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHELn14HntJVsqeG5g0KjbLcUaMgaeUoD-FjmM0/?igshid=1wlwae296joow

*Life kind of stinks these days with all this self isolation and political pageantry going on around us. Some politicians on both sides are using this public health crisis to boost their own ratings and agendas, while others are simply trying to keep us safe. Never mind the fact that it is allergy season, and I have personally never been more afraid to sneeze in public in my life…
Anyways, most people are looking for new things to keep them occupied in this strange new world we live in. What is better for that than a new 220,000 word fanfic? LOL. I wrote this story a while back based on a crazy idea, along with some inspiration from many other book series and fanfics. When I told my family and friends about it, they convinced me to share it. It has now received over 90,000 views on FF.Net and it is also available on Wattpad for any that use those mediums instead of AO3.
If, like me, you prefer to binge watch/read things instead of pacing it out, then this is for you. The whole first book is completed and I am in the process of posting the second. Give it a shot if it interests you. If not, feel free to pass it by.
If you have artistic talents and feel inspired, I would be more than happy to commission artwork from you. I’m a little desperate in fact, lol. I just hate asking someone to draw something that they have no knowledge of or interest in. Anyways, thanks for taking the time to read this long-winded ramble. :P
Keep busy, stay home, stay safe! Take care all :)
Summary:
It’s a Hiccup Leaves Berk story, but with some new twists and turns. Hiccup leaves as a runty nobody with a big secret, only to return as a world-wise and hardened man.
Hiccup and Toothless strike out on their own. Taking a dive into the dark sides of humanity along the way. They meet new friends and discover abilities that they never dreamed they could have. Only problem is, they can’t really come home now. The brothers have changed, but Berk has not.
Now Hiccup is left to wonder, would those he left behind be able to recognize the village loser, despite the man that he has become? Does he even want them to? When the woman he loves is put in danger, will it be enough to spur him into action? In their time of greatest need, will Hiccup be able to save his people? Or is the fear of facing his past too great an obstacle to overcome? Set in a world of smut, blood, and magic, with heavy helpings of history and mythology.

My mom recommended this book to me after I recommended The Life List to her.
Spielman sure knows how to tell a tale.
My mom liked being able to recognize the setting in New Orleans, I have never been to New Orleans but I enjoyed recognizing places in Chicago (like the Purple Pig).
Spielman was able to intertwine romance into this novel without taking away from the overall story and without turning it into a typical romance novel which I really appreciated. Though this story would be categorized as Women's Fiction, I think it could really be enjoyed by anyone that enjoys fiction.
Stay tuned for my favourite/thought provoking quotes on rukhsandbooks.tumblr.com
Favourite character: RJ (and not just because we share initials)
Least favourite character: Michael
If you like the Morning Show on Apple TV+ you might want to give this book a chance.

August and summer have come to a close! Within the next couple of days my block leave will end and I’ll be back to work. It’s been brilliant having so much downtime to relax, spend time with friends & family, and I was able to get four more books down range to kick off the fall! This post also gives the chance to show off this BEAUTIFUL bookshelf my Father was kind enough to make me because I ran out of room a while ago on my main bookshelf. Thanks, Pops!😊 August’s reading haul included books #13 and #14 of the Sharpe Series where Capt Richard Sharpe must regain his Light Company he lost to army politics by leading a Forlorn Hope at the Siege of Badajoz, and game of espionage against the brutal French Colonel Philippe Leroux. Also read a synopsis of the course content on the Marine Corp Combat Hunter’s course, which teaches about the art of combat profiling in Left of Bang, and the recounting of the Falkland War from Brigadier Julian Thompson who commanded 3 Commando Brigade (Royal Marines and Parachute Regiment) throughout the conflict. Looking forward to kicking off Autumn with more reading! #bookstagram #augustreads #covidreads #sharpescompany #sharpessword #bernardcornwell #leftofbang #patrickvanhorne #jasonariley #combathunter #USMC #nopicnic #julianthompson #3commandobrigade #falklandswar #royalmarines #parachuteregiment #newbookshelf #thanksdad (at Kentville, Nova Scotia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CExJD_XHorULg3R0xc9iwx_BQeqsmOHLFjHnIc0/?igshid=1z2vsfzmltbx
