“Intimations” by Zadie Smith is the first book of 20 pandemic-style literature I’ve finished this month. “Intimations” is a clever poke at the underlying issues of the 2020 outbreak — economic collapse (prompted by ignoring the real issues of America’s underbelly.) The pandemic is simply the tip of the iceberg. / / / / / #bookstagram #booksta #bookstagrammer #bookgram #whatimreading #bookstagramfeature #booknerdigans #bookworm #reader #read #booksarelife #bookholic #ilovebooks #instaread #bookishgirl #amreading #pandemic #pandemicbooks #pandemicliterature #intimations #essays #zadiesmith https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpx1iaCrDi-/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A great “multi-part” day out yesterday. Part 1: The first non-virtual book event for me this year as Hwee Goh and I join fellow Marshall Cavendish creators at Times@Waterwaypoint to talk about our books. Hwee and I talked about our book “Invisible Enemies” - a book about the history of pandemics conceived at the start of the global crisis and then written, illustrated, published and released in the thick of the lockdown! Part 2 Got to catch up with friends... Melanie Lee... William Sim... Leila Boukarim... Barbara Moxham... Our great Marshall Cavendish team of Lydia Leong and Mindy Pang... Pt.3 Hwee and I revealed our new Invisible Enemies collaterals in the form of postcard and business cards sized bookmarks! Pt.4 Completely unexpected (and unrehearsed) A review of “Invisible Enemies” by Western Australia writer-scholar Nadia King appears 5 minutes before Hwee and I went Live on Facebook :) “Invisible Enemeis” is available from major bookstores and online platforms such as Goguru and Closetful of Books #marshallcavendish #marshallcavendishsg #marshallcavendishasia #hweezbooks #kidlit #kidlitsg #childrensbooks #childrensbookssg #childrensillustrationsart #pandemicbooks #bookspandemic #childrensbookssg https://www.instagram.com/p/CIKGao3HTCw/?igshid=1mln8y2xzl8bh

Finished the audiobook SEVERANCE by Ling Ma. It was published in 2018 and takes place in 2011. A global pandemic is happening and the main character is on if the few that’s not been infected. It is eye-opening in the similarity as to what is happening now. The sickness is different as in it’s effect to an individual (no spoilers but it’s not zombies or anything like that, nothing gory). It’s not sad or hopeless in feeling, just one person documenting her own personal experience with all of it, as well as some of her backstory. I enjoyed it, and am happy to recommend it for some pandemic themed reading, if that’s what you’re looking for. #pandemic #book #audiobook #pandemicbook #pandemicreading #shenfever #severance #lingma @bridgeportlibrarywv #libbyapp #wvdeli #newyork #chicago #readingwhilecleaning https://www.instagram.com/p/B_5Zuewjuan/?igshid=h4op7kqylyqi

Hey guys!I never thought I’d read a book on a pandemic this year, but here I am. I avoided reading about plagues or any pandemics last year because reading about them in a lockdown felt more distressful. But this book was unexpectedly comforting and better than all the books I read last month. Let’s quickly take a look at why you should be reading this book in today’s post. About the…
