My first visits to the Human Realm...

First impressions?

It's cold! Well, mostly cooler than at home on The Isles, especially in Winter! Then it's colder than up on The Knee! 🥶

In general, the Humans I have met at Coventions have been friendly.

It can be confusing sometimes, when you meet someone who looks like someone you know, but is actually a Human Cosplaying that person.

Yeah, I've met some versions of my little sister, Amity, and other friends! 🤷🏽‍♀️🙂

I am going back home to The Isles soon. But I'm planning on coming back again, to attend more Coventions, and hopefully meet some more friends.😀

Interestingly, Artemis' decision to start wearing suits (and to dress more formally sensu lato) more or less follows the (presumed) death of his father and the mental break of his mother; what we see as Artemis' present-day, default sartorial styling is almost a kind of mourning attire. And, of course, I'm compelled by the many reasons (verging from banal to saddening) as to why Artemis never really stops dressing like this.

Five of Wands: Covention Duel!

Upright: Conflict, competition, rivalry, disagreements, tension, arguments, difference of opinion, clashing ideals

Reversed: Avoiding conflict, mutual understanding, peace, cooperation, truces, healthy competition, release of tension

The Five of Wands is the card of conflict, clashes, and competition. It could signify a literal physical fight (like the duels between Lilith and Eda or Luz and Amity), or more internal conflicts like differing worldviews or clashing priorities. In Lilith and Eda's case, their conflict derives from their opposing lifestyles and beliefs about magic and social systems; Eda practices wild magic and refuses to conform and join a single coven, while Lilith upholds and enforces the coven system and strives to get Eda to join her side by any means necessary. Their rivalry also stems from disparities of raw magical talent between them. Luz and Amity also show clashing priorities in this episode: Amity's diligence improving her Abomination magic to maintain superiority versus Luz learning magic from scratch to protect her loved ones.

When reversed, the Five of Wands symbolizes an end to a conflict, often through clear communication and trying to understand differing opinions. After their botched duel, Luz and Amity communicate their motivations and admit their failings in behavior towards the other. They both recognize a bit of themselves in each other, and are able to come to a mutual understanding and make a tentative peace—the first brick in the foundation of their relationship.

One of my favourite parts of Sekiro's narrative is the sweet irony of how Wolf receives immortality.

Owl is the one actively seeking immortality. He installed Wolf as Kuro's bodyguard so he could keep an eye on him (and to ensure no one would beat him to his goal). Owl cutting the branch off the sakura tree shows he was trying to figure out how the Divine Heir's immortality worked (and potentially, maybe caused the land to become cursed by wounding the Divine Dragon in the process). He somehow arranged this massive attack on Hirata Estate, even got the Ministry involved to unwittingly do his dirty work. He even kills Wolf to stop him from getting in his way.

But at the end of the day, it all amounted to nothing. Not only does Owl not obtain immortality, he goes into hiding and plays dead for the next few years. The only one to profit from Owl's scheming was the Ministry since the attack managed to wipe out a clan allied to Ashina.

Kuro shared his immortality with Wolf instead. To save him from the wound Owl inflicted.

And why did Kuro do it? Simply because Wolf returned to Hirate estate at the right moment and proved himself as someone Kuro could trust. Simply by showing up and doing his job.

No plotting and scheming necessary.

Owl could have easily been in Wolf's place. He could have easily earned Kuro's trust himself. All he had to do was do his job.

Instead, his plotting ensured that he would never attain immortality himself.
