Really scared and angry right now about the Nashville shooting and its potential aftermath. First and foremost, my condolences go to the victims’ families, as well as the students and staff of the school, but I’m also really nervous about what this could mean for the trans community, given the perpetrator was trans. The actions of one individual do not define a population, but with the rise of anti-trans legislature and rhetoric in America, especially in conservative-majority states, I’m worried that this tragedy could be used to further persecute trans people and detract from the central issue of gun violence. I want to offer my support both to the people who are grieving and to the trans community, and am beyond angry at the politicians and public figures who are exploiting the shooting to further harm both trans people and victims of gun violence.

Idk if I’ve seen any post ab this today
but it’s been a year since the covenant school shooting and it breaks my heart that this is still an ongoing problem that people my age have to worry with, it’s utterly sad and depressing that we have to worry about going to school without being killed. Please rest in peace

Please consider writing down the words: "Thank You" and then drop that paper or card off to your local firefighters and police officers & staff or drop the note into the mail. I know from experience that it doesn't need to be fancy.
Proverbs 16:24 Kind words are like honey sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
“Kind words do not cost much. Yet they accomplish much.” Blaise Pascal
“With the help of grace, the habit of saying kind words is very quickly formed, and when once formed, it is not speedily lost.” Frederick W. Faber
“Perhaps you will forget tomorrow the kind words you say today, but the recipient may cherish them over a lifetime.” Dale Carnegie”
“Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust, and hostility to evaporate.” Albert Schweitze

🚨I personally don't think our hearts and minds were created to absorb daily bad news and violence. I'm posting the bodycam video for our international friends who often hear terrible things about USA first responders. Our first responders have been demonized and thus demoralized because of a few rotten apples. They deserve our prayers & appreciation.

Nashville Private School Shooting
I just wanted to put this on here in light of the tragic events that took place in my home city. I love my community with all my heart and to find out about the shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville this morning just broke my heart. My school, CPA and the Covenant are sister schools. Typically when you finish sixth grade at the Covenant (the school only has preschool through sixth) you go seventh through senior year at CPA. Many many of my good friends had younger siblings who went there or kids they babysat there etc. Thankfully none that I knew were fatally injured or wounded. However two of the adults that were killed in this shooting did have an impact on my school as well. Katherine Koonce was an amazing woman that lead many discussions and meetings on helping parents with parenting and child growth and development. She left a few years ago and became the Head Master/Mistress of the Covenant and was shot and killed today. I pray over anyone and everyone in the community - especially those who are friends or families of the three children and three adults killed this morning. Gun violence is now the number one most common death among children in the USA at this time and it is just disgusting. I pray over all the children who went to the Covenant school today and the children who found out during their lockdowns at other schools. If you’re seeing this post, please keep these sweet young children and these wonderful, hardworking adults in your hearts. If you are a believer, I deeply encourage you to pray over these people and their families.
Violence such as this is despicable and it has GOT to stop. Todays shooting is the 19th mass shooting at a school this year and IT IS ONLY FUCKING MARCH. The number for mass shootings this year in general are already over a hundred. People should be able to send their children to school and fully EXPECT that their kid or kids will come home safe and healthy. We MUST do better as a nation.
Thank you for taking the time to read over this. Thank you for taking the time to think over todays events and keeping these innocent people among your hearts.

sorry to be dark but I genuinely think we should lock every anti-gun control senator, representative, and governor in an empty elementary school with a shooter armed with assault rifles and see how they feel about it.

Staining Fences
It was the best of weeks. Mornings were cool, low 60s, and no humidity. There was a strange hint of Fall, in mid-August, in the south. So my handy husband Bob decided it was time to paint our six month old fence. A cedar fence can be allowed to grey gracefully over the years; OR you could preserve its beauty by painting it a color (like the black fences that dot Virginia) OR if one prefers,…

children died and you're focusing on the gender identity of the person who shot them??? you're fucking sick in the head
The killer’s already dead. Justice cannot be delivered to this person directly. What do you expect me to do? And I think the mental illness and hormonal imbalance were motivating factor. The shooter was allegedly a former student of Covenant School.

The spate of senseless shootings and killings of our young people in America is unacceptable
Too many young people are dying in America of gun violence. It's time for gun reform.

Race to the Bottom
You might have heard about this but here’s the very abbreviated version: Two 27 year-old Black male lawmakers were expelled from the Tennessee state legislature this week for participating in a peaceful protest to speak up about gun violence on behalf of their constituents – both young and old – who were not being heard – after three 3rd graders were murdered by a shooter using an assault weapon…

you know, I feel guilty for having a normal day today. I woke up late - I stayed up late - and went to the gym, took a shower, will have a date at the Smiling Elephant later on this afternoon ...
and yet there are seven families that are still mourning and likely will always be
and yet there are people who will refuse to do anything productive to prevent this from happening again
my heart is so heavy
