Arctus had lost a man in the middle of healing him. It had happened before of course, though he never admitted it. But this time something in him snapped. So as soon as he got back into the city he submitted a report and then found the nearest dive bar to get wasted in. He didn't want to be in the Citadel right now, didn't want to be where his dad or brother could find him. Just wanted to drown his sorrows for a bit a forget the whole thing.

When a tall, fit man came in a couple hours later he figured being in a different bed for the night might be good too. He pulled the man down for a quick and messy kiss, only to groan when he saw the face of the stranger.

"Shit," He muttered. "Suppose it's too much to hope you won't tell Regis, huh?"

"Are you here about the secretary job? I'm afraid I've no time for another interview unless you've got something very impressive to show me..." His words were extremely dismissive, maybe a bit irritated. A hand waved at the other for them to exit the cramped, messy office space.

There were stacks of papers everywhere; cardboard boxes piled in corners, trinkets and newspapers, broken bits and bobs, several empty coffee mugs as well as his own fresh one, cigarette butts, an overflowing trashcan, stacks of books, old receipts. He looked rugged. And that was putting it lightly. His hair was a fluffy mess atop his head, his skin pallid and eyes sunken from lack of sleep. He had already talked to 13 other applicants today and none had been very impressive. Chewing on the tip of a pencil, his eyes scanned over a folder full of documents, clearly searching for something amidst the absolute chaos of the small space.

Tossing the folder aside, he pressed his lips into a thin line, hands on his hips as he finally took a moment to look up at the stranger. A heavy sigh. If only he had another cigarette handy...

"And if you've something else to say, you've got less than 3 minutes to say it. I'm not taking on anymore cases at the moment unless it's something worthwhile."

as the stylist moved through the halls of the tribute tower, her high heels echoed against the stone floors. she did sometimes try to walk quieter, but in the early hours when there was so little activity, any sound at all was amplified. clytemnestra found the door to the suite she was looking for and stopped. her team would follow in a few minutes with some looks picked out for him, but they were running a bit behind schedule. as the clock struck the hour, clytemnestra pushed the call button outside the door that would let him know she was outside. she had a key, she could just come in, but she'd always found people preferred to have some warning. "good morning! if you don't open up, i'll be coming in. lots of work to do!"

his hand rubs relentlessly at the scars on his wrist, turning tanned skin red as cyrillo stares up at the clear blue sky. the sun warms his cheeks, has him squinting and scowling, yet his gaze never leaves the aky above.

he had. he discussed it with her as a possibility, a scenario to be prepared for; a small part of him always wondered whether or not she ever had to do it, and a larger part preferred to push the thought down. not knowing and wondering would be the end of him if he let it. though, now that cyrillo knew what happened after his death, of his wife's fate, he realizes the truth can be just as maddening.

she died without him, because of him. their daughter lived without both of her parents, raised by a valravn forced into servitude. he wonders how different all of their lives could have been if he hadn't deserted the army all that time ago.

cyrillo doesn't turn upon the sound of approaching footsteps. bronwyn did not save her biting words for a private conversation, relishing in his subtle discomfort ( despite centuries apart, it was disconcerting how well she knew him still ). he can only imagine the other is here to bring some sort of comfort, but the vampire would much prefer a distraction.
