Something something while realistically I dont think theyd have kids, at least not as bishops, I do think it would be interesting as a hypothetical

He spoils you, to the highest degree- he can get just about anything he wants thanks to his status, so by extension all your wants are fulfilled

That being said hes not... the most responsible parent.. being the god of chaos, order and routine seem foreign to him

Definitely receives guidance from his siblings to help make things run more smoothly, you sometimes spend afternoons with your uncles and aunts

Will have someone killed if you tell him theyve wronged you.. or vaguely annoyed you..he'd do the same tbh

KALLAMAR

Shes incredibly firm with you but I wouldn't say shes suffocating or overly strict- she just wants you to be respectable and have thick skin

Will not tolerate anyone throwing bullshit your way, they never get the chance to finish their sentence before they're killed

You get her temper and attitude, and shes proud that you're able to stand up for yourself

Protective of you to a degree but wants you to fight your own battles if possible, steps in when you're in over your head

SHAMURA

Might spoil you more than Leshy does, you have so many jewels and pretty things in your possession

A very proud parent, always showing you off to his followers and siblings- will talk about your milestones to his siblings! "Oh they said their first words they're so smart!" "Oh they made a drawing they're so talented!" "Oh they killed their first cultist they're so strong!"

But he is a bit.. of a worrier... if hes not around he has one of his disciples keeping an eye on you to make sure you're not in trouble- though this only applies when you're off the cults grounds

Ooouuugh soft at the idea that he puts on a brave face when hes terrified in the inside so you can still count on him

A firm parent like their sibling, they have some experience from taking care of their siblings! This is not their first rodeo!

You're about to be so knowledgeable on various pieces of history and other information, some cultists may come to you for wisdom if shamura isnt available

Definitely the best fighter out of your hypothetical cousins, to the surprise of no one given your parent is the god of war

Sorry if someone asked you this before, but what are your ship's with the bishops? I know you have leshy x the yellow cat, narilamb, and shamura x sozo, but what about heket and kalamar? Do they have lovers, or are just single Pringle's?

Question for all shippers in the COTL fandom

ok, so we all know of Narilamb and most, i think, know of Shroomwool for lamb x heket.

but I must ask if there are any names for other ships?

like, what about Lamb x Shamura? Silkfleece, perhaps? (keeping that one. I like it.) what about other bishops like Leshy? Kallamar? and that's just if you want to stop at bishops. what about the other characters? like sozo? (maybe cosmica has one for that.)

why am I asking these questions? well...

after making a short Shroomwool one-off, I decided to try a Kallamar one to feed the squid simps and now I'm curious what the ship name is.

plus I find these interesting even if they just default to combining names. like with Narilamb and Leshycat.

just don't mention any shipcest here. period. zero tolerance policy.

Edit: apparently Leshycat is also called "Blind Faith". though I thought True Devotion was an AU not an alternate for Narilamb. duly noted.

edit 2: new Kallamar x Lamb: Kallamb. simply yet effective. both sounds like a demon's name and a potential fankid of the two.

ok here's the essay

So. How much evidence is there that the Fanatic was the god of knowledge before Shamura? Not much. The game is deliberately vague on what exactly the Fanatic was the god of, but there's just enough crumbs to point in that direction. They tell the Lamb they are waiting for "one who values truth over all else" and in tablet II they pray to the Great Ones for understanding. They also give the Lamb the snake follower form; the serpent tempts Eve to eat from the tree of *knowledge* of good and evil, so the symbolism is there.

The smoking gun for me, though, is the early unused version of tablet X.

"I am shamed, shamed. I deserve no forgiveness. I deserve to die here, shrouded in sin. I renounced the First Gods. How easily pain made a defector of me. I will take whatever punishment is due, but I beg you, reader of these chronicles, remember: they call their faith old, but they are nothing more than heretics. He of havoc, he of blight; she of hunger, they of might. He that lays a soul to rest; five remain of hundreds blessed."

From there we can infer a few things:

The bishops obviously did Something to the Fanatic.

The Fanatic had to be tortured into going along with whatever that Something was. It wasn't just inflicted on them, their cooperation was needed somehow, possibly as part of a ritual or spell.

It didn't kill them. They even managed to get out one last tablet afterward.

We never find out what exactly it was; the Fanatic only describes it as having "renounced the First Gods".

By the time the story starts, the Fanatic isn't around anymore. We hear their voice but that's it.

We know that gods in the COTL universe canonically leave behind a "lingering presence". That lingering presence can persist even if the god loses the Crown and becomes a mortal, or even dies as a mortal; this is what happens with the bishops.

Tablet IX and the Offering to the Owl also heavily imply Haro was once a god of hunting, who willingly relinquished the title for unknown reasons. Maybe this is what the Fanatic meant by "the Owl has chosen a different tact"; giving up their proper godhood, leaving them with their weaker current form (notably, Haro's crown has a crossed-out eye, like it's "dead").

From Ancient Tablet IX: "[…] for regardless of what they threaten, I shall never relinquish my beliefs."

In tablet VIII, the Fanatic refers to their crown as "the blessing of the First at my brow". HMM.

In tablet VII we learn Shamura approached the Fanatic seeking their allegiance, but was turned away. HMMMMMMMMM.

IF, indeed, Shamura found a way to take domain over knowledge from its rightful owner, in addition to already having domain over war, that would add a whole new layer of thematic resonance to their story. The creators have said a big theme in COTL is that those who try to deviate from their nature are usually punished by the universe. Shamura getting greedy, claiming another god's domain in addition to their own, their newfound domain over knowledge leading them to encourage Narinder's experiments, and it all blowing up in their face catastrophically… their descent into madness makes a nice parallel with Chemach also

LESHY

sometimes he can get behind your nature, given he was once a chaos god- in a way you both kind of build up off of each other with you being so... unpredictable

though that doesnt mean hes going to stand by and knowingly let you get hurt, if he can help it... keeps your attention on him to make sure you dont wander off

youre both often paired together to go out on missions together due to him being unable to see- you work as his eyes, and he uses his smell in order to seek out where resources are

this really goes for all of the bishops but youre one of the first people to befriend him after he joins the lamb's cult- if it weren't for you falling over and slamming your face on the ground, he wouldn't have given you his time... hes glad he didnt ignore you, he gets to rope you into some of the pranks he pulls around the cult to sow mischief and chaos

HEKET

slow burn friendship with you likely being under the impression youre both already friends- it almost gives off dog and cat dynamic vibes

you first really got her attention when you threw yourself into danger to go retrieve something she mentioned having some low level desire for- of course, coming back with various cuts and bruises scattered across your body

you did it simply to be nice, not because you felt the obligation to do it out of fear- she doesnt have her power or influence anymore

picks you up and yanks you out of the way of any traps while out on missions, low grumbles are sent your way as she wordlessly scolds you

you tend to try to spread the word that shes a sweetheart to others but no one is buying it due to her past and general attitude around everyone else

KALLAMAR

if youve got the balls to back up your recklessness, you unofficially become his guard dog; standing up for him when some of the other cult members give him flack or when he says something that he probably shouldnt have- anxiety be damned, that man still has an ego that still peaks out every now and then

youre the one whos always charging head first into danger during missions while he trails behind you out of harms way...

frets over you once you both return to camp, hes dabbing a wash cloth to your wounds as he scolds you for being so careless with yourself

if you return from a solo mission or outing and return with something for him- say, some crystals from anchordeep, hes going to be torn between wanting to get onto you for putting yourself in danger and wanting to just melt into the ground- you'd gotten the crystals because he missed his old temple and home

clings to you when you both dont have any work assigned for the day

SHAMURA

youre reckless, and they tend to be forgetful- you both have the capacity to get hurt in some way during a mission

youre more than willing to take any hits for them, often times leading to them pulling you to the side to gather yourself together

you both keep an eye on each other out of habit- you fear they might wander or get left behind, and they have the same worry

admires your energy, though, even if its so so different from their own

they help you reel it in if you ever become too much or nearly throw yourself into something thats far above your skill level

naturally you have some scars from your adventures, sometimes they will ask about them if youre open to talking- however theyre more than understanding if theres some you dont want to talk about

I wouldn't say narilamb is "default settings" it's just kinda the big ship the majority enjoys skdhs

Anyways leshylamb is fine, not my favorite but not my least favorite; I'm sure it's fun and chaotic tho

I am not a big kallamar enjoyer I just do not like that squid... more power to those down bd about him but nah. I cannot see him being shipped with the lamb at all

shamura x the lamb I could definitely see some depth to it... I've mentioned I hc shamura as aroace so I don't personally enjoy ships with them in it but the appeal is there and I can see why people would and do ship it

Concept

The concept for this AU is that instead of the bishops becoming followers or reincarnating like many AUs I've see do, they become ghosts, also taking inspo from those drawings where follower Narinder feels guilty and sad by looking at the crowns of his dead siblings, the ghosts of the bishops are most of the time around Narinder, reminding him that it was his fault that they're dead

Characters and their designs

All the ghost bishop designs from Ghosts of the Heretics are colored all around the color purple, their crowns have an X showing that they have no power, just as I headcanon Haro's crown to have no power being the reason for it to have an X on it, they all have an oozy aura around them that is always going up

LESHY

Ghost Leshy is still the most chaotic of the siblings, as the deceased god of chaos, he causes the most chaotic supernatural stuff to happen, he has bad eyesight tho, sees a lot of stuff being blurry or too bright to identify, his presence generates chaos in the hearts of the living

HEKET

Ghost Heket is just as temperamental as she used to be when she was alive, her rages make her supernatural stuff be very destructive, her voice is very weak, she may lose it sometimes during conversations, her presence generates famine, causing the living to starve, sometimes she steals food from the mortals because it's funny

KALLAMAR

Ghost Kallamar is still a coward, he will act tough because he is in a very powerful vengeful ghost just like his siblings, however he is still easily scared and will run away sometimes, Kallamar's hearing is poor, spells to ward off ghosts that include saying specific words do not work on him, as he cannot hear them properly, so his soul doesn't consider the spell, his presence generates sickness, causing the living to well, get sick

SHAMURA

As the former god of war and a symbol of wisdom, Ghost Shamura is the most angered of the vengeful ghost siblings, they feel betrayed, backstabbed, their own sibling turning against them and their other siblings, they seek revenge against The One Who Waits, Shamura has poor memory, sometimes forgets stuff they used to do when they were alive, but can never forget the betrayal of their brother, Shamura's presence generates war and unbalancement between the living

NARINDER

Narinder as a high tier follower from the Cult of the Lamb has access to more stuff than the regular followers, he's often called a schizophrenic by the other cultists because of the ghosts haunting him, Narinder carries with him a machete(item said to ward off ghosts) to defend himself, he wears a chestplate made of iron and silver(materials said to ward off ghosts) and also bracelets of the same materials in the top half of his arms, he's also scared of the Ghosts, they hold a lot of power and that's why he has a lot of stuff to ward off ghosts, but it usually doesn't work

The Lamb / Lambert

By time this AU takes place, The Lamb has recieved enough devotion to start changing their body into a more godly appearence, as the Red Crown holder, Lambert develops traits about death, and can feel the powerful presence of the Bishop Ghosts around the cult, espcially around Narinder, they have no time to investigate tho, they're too busy taking care of the cult

Stuff about the AU

The main purpose of the Ghost Bishops is to haunt the one who was responsible for their deaths, not the Lamb, they were a vessel, they are here to haunt Narinder, The One Who Waits, now as a follower of the cult, he barely can do anything to the ghosts, showing fear(he was afraid of ghosts in the Blood Moon Festival so yeah), their prensence makes him feel guilty of his actions, being the responsible for the death of his own siblings, Narinder wishes he could go back in time and prevent all of this from happening, he wouldn't have to suffer from the souls of his dead siblings seeking revenge on him

The Ghosts are never around Narinder when the Lamb is with him, they wanna be kept as a secret, if Narinder tries to tell the Lamb about them, they will show up and stop him before he does

However The Lamb knows the spirits are there, but they don't know that they're the Bishops

The Ghosts cannot be taken to the afterlife while their unfinished business with Narinder is completed(which means Narinder has to die)

I might have repeated something I said before in this part but I really don't care
