12/8/23 - The Beginning

Ok, honestly today was pretty simple. Yesterday, I asked my mom (since she has free access to a printer at work) to print out the coat pattern from This lovely pattern I bought from Cosplayprintables / Indigo Patterns. I also bought my Hu Tao pattern from her, and that went great, so I knew this would be a great way to get the coat pattern. Most of the work today was taping pieces of paper together and then cutting out the pattern. However, I did have to modify a few pieces. The sleeves need to be lengthened, along with their cuffs, and the hood needs to be expanded. And so even more paper was taped together and the pattern expanded. The sleeves were lengthened 6 inches, the cuffs like an extra inch or so and the hood was made 4 inches taller. [picture that goes here redacted for privacy] One funny thing that occurred was, in the process of trying to expand the hood neither me or my mom really wanted to use our normal method to expand circles, measure the distance out and draw a line every half inch or so and then connect them together, and thus I broke out my compass for the first time since middle school. Unfortunately it sucks ass. And so, to actually keep it at the length required... we had to tape it.

Anyways I forgot to grab a picture of all the patterns cut out, so that will go in the next diary entry. Robin is officially a-go, as if they weren't a-go the moment I bought 7 yards of fabric for the coat. Sorry I don't have much to show, I will get better at taking pictures as we go and today is not super interesting, unless you count a bunch of pieces of paper as interesting

The dress construction for genderbend dancer Dimitri is almost done, save for the zipper installation and sewing in the lining.

It's been a lot of handsewing the last several days. I really liked this trim from Joann that reminded me of the goldwork. So far I've added that to the lower tabard (left picture). I still have a few yards left - I might go and get some more to add it in a few other places as well, like at the bottom of the skirt on the edge of the silver. Most of the work today was handstitching the bottom skirt panel to the lining side (right picture).

The top is sitting funny on my dress form because there isn't a closure yet and it's shape doesn't quite match mine, especially with the bra I'll be wearing that I patterned the top part with. Aside from the very top of the bodice, the rest of the pattern was from Indigo Patterns (cosplayprintables on Etsy). Originally I was going to do a FBA but it was giving me some trouble with coverage on the strapless side (still learning how to do that) so I did a masking tape pattern with help from my wife for that part in order to guarantee a good fit.
