fashion snob talks about boynextdoor red carpet fashion because it's been 1,5 years and it hasn't hit yet

I've made similar posts to this last awards season because they were dressed similarly then, but I had hoped that in their second year, they would up the ante. They did not.

I understand that red carpet fashion doesn't hold the same weight as it does in the West. The performance outfits are more important than the red carpet outfits, so there's less attention placed on it.

But let's look at the MMA looks:

They're essentially wearing the same outfit. There are differences in blazer style and shirt style, but it's the same fabric, the same classic cut. It's copy paste six times.

And if this group was known for their classic style, Hollywood concept, then I'd be fully behind this. But they're freaking boynextdoor. Where's the personality? Where's the fun? They all have such distinct POV's, but that is invisible here.

If any of them would wear such a classic suit, it would be Sungho. But that's it.

Anyway, I think they can still look dressed up and form a cohesive picture, but also showcase their different personalities and personal styles. So here are some options:

a - Pyer Moss SS20, "American, Also; Lesson 3."

These two sets are from Pyer Moss' collection inspired by the mother of rock, Rosetta Tharpe. The first is a leather co-ord and the second is a suit in a bright blue colour and guitar-shaped lapels.

With Taesan's affinity to classic rock and older American music, I think something like this would reflect him very well. These would obviously be used as base layers and then be dressed up in that quintessential bonedo style.

b - Thom Browne (custom, 2023)

This was worn by Daniel Ricciardo for the Met Gala 2023.

Obviously, none of these boys are getting custom TB any time soon, but something off the rack TB would work perfectly for Sungho. Known for his suiting, tailoring, and his love for the female/male form, Thom Browne would look great on Sungho and compliment his physique.

c - Wales Bonner SS20 Menswear / Marni 2024 RTW

First two images are from the SS20 menswear collection of Wales Bonner, third image is current RTW from Marni. All very different looks, but all three possessing a quirkiness and slight vintage feel in the cut of the suits. The Wales Bonner suits are inspired by the 70s, while the baggy plaid suit from Marni clearly references the 80s.

Someone like Leehan, who has a very distinct personality and also loves older music, could pull off a look like this.

d - Kenzo SS25

All three looks are from KENZO SS25, which is a French-Japanese house under the creative direction of Nigo. Since his direction, he's being using a lot of Japanese denim to create his collection and has been doing a diligent job at combining Western and Eastern sensibilities in his clothing. For a group that's heavily inspired by the West, I feel like this brand works well for them.

I've sourced these looks for both Jaehyun and Woonhak. Considering Jaehyun is the leader and Woonhak is the maknae still figuring out himself and his personal style (evident by the fact that's he's constantly borrowing his members' clothes), I think it would be quite neat if they matched a little bit. The younger brother following the older brother.

e - Bottega Veneta FW RTW '23 / SS RTW '22 / FW '22

All three looks are from Bottega Veneta but from different collections. The first is a sleek matte black trousers and shirt set, the second is a leather-that-looks-like-denim set, and the third is a knit sweater and red leather trousers.

Riwoo is the trickiest one because he knows and understands fashion, but I settled on this. It's chic, but not too off the rails, with luxurious fabrics that elevate the look and doesn't need much accessorizing. I've noticed Riwoo looks best in simpler looks and easily gets overpowered by frivolous details, so the simplicity of BV would work for him.

As you can tell, I've strayed away from the typical brands worn by idols (Burberry, Celine, YSL, Louis Vuitton, Gucci), because I'm tired by how uninspired it is. Hope this was more exciting.

Thot-era Ian: Ian gradually becomes more comfortable with his sexuality with the help of his co-workers except there is one ex-best friend he has yet to inform about his coming out. Ianthony. Will be long. Will be spicy.

Creekside Killer AU: A prompt received from an anonymous ask. Anthony is the creekside killer and as a form of slowing Sarah Christ's investigation on him, he kidnaps her husband Redacted. Slight horror. Mostly planotic with Ianthony undertones. Obsessed Anthony.

Jackie's Goodbye Party: Another prompt received a long time ago. Jackie saying goodbye to those she was romantically involved with. Fairly short. Involves Poly. Wouldn't take long to finish! Jackie/Damien, Jackie/Shayne, Jackie/Ian.

Single Dad!Anthony: Anthony has a child at 25 and raises her on his own. Timeline follows the irl canon timeline. Chaptered. Probably long. Kid fic. Will be ianthony!

Reincarnation AU: A series of reincarnated lives that Ian begins recalling in his sleep. Also follows irl canon timeline. ANGST. Major character death. Will likely have a happy ending. LONG. Ianthony.

Hockey AU: Ian is the son of the hockey coach. His dad forces him to switch from cross-country to hockey. Only problem? Ian sucks at hockey. He starts being trained by the captain of the team, Anthony. High school AU. Long. Angst. Enemies to lovers. Fluff. Internalized Homophobia. Sport AU.

Accidental Dating: Anthony is in his feelings and to cheer him up Ian takes him out except somewhere along the line, it feels like they begin dating for real. Short, fluff.

Long Spanning Fic: Fic spanning the canon timeline of Ian and Anthony's friendship, relationship, dynamic, etc. Very long. Canon forward. Angst. Character analysis. Eventual happy ending.

Bluffs Sequel: A second fic set in the same universe as The Bluffs but this time focusing on Ian's first time drinking alcohol. Also based on the story told on FWS that the first fic was based on. Teenaged Ianthony. Mutual Pining.

Priest!Ian: No real strong idea just set in the universe of the funeral characters. Spooky. Kinda strange.

How Captain America 4 Will Follow The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Talk about timing! With the conclusion of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+, Marvel wasted no time in revealing the next project that will spotlight Anthony Mackie’s newly minted Captain America. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman is co-writing a currently-untitled Captain America 4 with another FWS alum, Dalan Musson. There’s no director attached, and no other details available just yet, but it does raise some interesting possibilities right out of the gate.

For starters, this probably puts the kibosh on our hopes for a traditional The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2 (or, more accurately, Captain America and the Winter Soldier). On the one hand, that’s kind of a shame, because the Disney+ TV format allows more freedom and nuance than a traditional big screen outing does. On the other, it’s great that Disney and Marvel Studios want to give Anthony Mackie the headlining slot on a blockbuster like Captain America 4, especially after seeing him suit up in that truly awesome new Captain America suit at the conclusion of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

But considering how The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ended, as well as some of the other information that’s out there in the world right now about Marvel’s plans, there are a few possibilities about what form Captain America 4 could end up taking.

The Rise of Sam Wilson as Captain America

The final episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showed not just how Sam finally accepted the mantle and responsibilities of the red, white, and blue, but also how his first public outing was perfectly suited to getting the public to accept him as the new Captain America. Sam’s first full adventure as Cap came in the pages of All-New Captain America by Rick Remender and Stuart Immonen, which saw him face off against Baron Zemo, Baron Blood, Batroc (that’s a whole lot of Bs), and a resurgent Hydra. That’s certainly a colorful enough roster to populate a blockbuster movie.

The MCU’s Zemo (Daniel Bruhl) is, of course, destined to return to bedevil our heroes in thought-provoking ways soon enough. Might he be one of the villains of Captain America 4? Well…that depends…

Captain America vs. the Thunderbolts (or the Dark Avengers)

Between the ongoing machinations of Contessa Valentine Allegra de la Fontaine (and seriously, can you believe that Julia Louis-Dreyfus is now part of the MCU?) and whatever Sharon Carter was up to in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier finale end credits scene, there’s plenty of reason to believe that some folks have an interest in putting together a team of “Dark Avengers” or something like the Marvel Comics team the Thunderbolts. In other words, antiheroes and villains who reform to do some good, despite still being really shady.

It’s likely that we’re going to see this play out in upcoming MCU releases like Loki, Black Widow (that film’s villain, Taskmaster, is a prime candidate for a team like this, and it’s already been confirmed that Val will appear there), and others. Perhaps by the time we get to Captain America 4 it’ll be time for a reckoning between someone who truly understands what it means to be a hero and these pretenders who have stepped in to fill the Avengers void.

Secret Empire

No, no…not the recent Marvel Comics event with that infamous panel of Steve Rogers saying “Hail Hydra,” I mean the ORIGINAL Secret Empire from the 1970s. The one where Steve, Sam, and T’Challa teamed up after discovering that the U.S. government had been taken over by bad guys and…waitasec, this sounds an awful lot like Captain America: The Winter Soldier when I put it that way, but trust me, it’s not the same.

But wait, aren’t we ALSO getting Secret Invasion on Disney+, the story about how the government has been infiltrated by Skrull agents. Well…yes, and I guess that sorta sounds a little similar here, too.

So then maybe it IS the more recent Secret Empire event, where the Red Skull altered reality to make it so that Steve Rogers believed he was a HYDRA agent all along. What does this have to do with anything, you ask? Well…

The Return of Steve Rogers

Earlier this year, word got out that Marvel was planning on bringing Chris Evans back to the Steve Rogers role in some form in the MCU (Evans, for his part, denied any knowledge of this). It seemed odd at the time, considering we all knew that Mackie’s Sam Wilson was getting ready to wield the shield at the conclusion of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Deadline reported that any potential Steve Rogers project “would be separate” from the Cap movie being developed by Spellman, which is good because it would be pretty dopey to undermine Sam as Cap by bringing back one of the most beloved big screen superheroes of all time, especially this early in the game.

But what if the Steve Rogers who returns to the MCU isn’t quite the one we remember? What if he’s somehow part of a larger plot against America and the world, and it sets up a heartbreaking showdown with Sam?

And if that’s gonna happen, there’s only one baddie villainous enough to make it worthwhile, one who’s long overdue to make a proper MCU return…

The Red Skull

It’s incredible that we’ve only seen the Red Skull twice in the MCU. This is one of the greatest villains in comics history, and there’s no greater challenge for a Captain America. Sam would 100% have his Cap bonafides locked up once he makes this Nazi asshat eat his own teeth.

How could the Red Skull return? Well, we have a theory that the person Sharon was talking to in that post-credits scene was Alexander (or Alexa) Lukin, a Russian spy who ended up kind of “possessed” by the spirit of the Red Skull, which set off a whole messy chain of events (in some of the best Cap comics of all time, Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting’s Captain America run).

Captain America 4 Release Date

Of course, there’s no release date for Captain America 4 just yet. There isn’t even a director! That being said, there are a number of dates on Marvel’s upcoming release calendar that don’t yet have films attached to them: Feb. 17, May 5, July 28, and Nov. 3 all in 2023. Those May or July dates would certainly be good fits for a summer blockbuster Cap flick.

But…while Marvel doesn’t have this date locked up yet, it’s worth noting that July 4th falls on a Thursday in 2024, so a long Patriotic holiday weekend release date sure would fit Captain America 4, too, wouldn’t it? Just having some fun speculating for now, but we’ll update you once there’s more news out there.
