overview of what happened so far.
Currently, there are 230 cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines--18 have died and only 8 have recovered. Consequently, the president imposed a Luzon-wide community quarantine from March 17 until April 14 and suspended work and classes. Every barangay was ordered to issue a quarantine pass to enable a member of each household to go outside--groceries, wet markets, banks, remittance centers, drug stores and restaurants with a take out service are all open.
Of course, there are people who are criticizing the government amidst the pandemic. Some held rallies which emphasized the slogan “Solusyong Medikal, Hindi Militar” when the government put checkpoints everywhere wherein people will be checked for COVID-19 symptoms. For some reason, the people in these checkpoints are uniformed soldiers holding guns which baffled people with a question regarding the purpose of the weapons. I wondered if they will utilize fear for respect and obedience and if we are that barbaric that we will not abide vbgh the rules unless guns are pointed at us. Sure, checkpoints are needed to contain the coronavirus but what is the government doing about the medical needs of the country? There should be road disinfections and free COVID-19 consultations. The testing kits are limited yet these selfish, privileged politicians and celebrities are putting their asymptomatic selves first. There are FIlipinos who were not prioritized because the hospitals said the test kits are only for those who most need it and that they cannot just test anyone. DoH tells the public they are prepared. In 2017, the budget for health was cut by Php10-billion and it is undeniable that the unpreparedness of the country can be traced back to this factor.
Apart from this, there are also controversies about the mayors and this pandemic just showed the true colors of those pieces of shit. Lots of mayors are idle and only a handful have shown their profound leadership. Our mayor, Joy Belmonte, is trash. Mayors have been ordered to give away health kits to the people and for some reason, she thought it was her idea and posted on her page that she was the one who fucking decided to give away this eco-bag with her face on it (unlike other mayors who did not use this opportunity to campaign for their names unlike this shithead Joy) which only contained a bar of soap, 500ml of alcohol, four full packets of vitamins, and two packets of mask. How about the people who will starve then? Other mayors gave grocery certificates and relief goods. The worst of it all was when she posted on her Facebook page this: “To those who hate me, you are under no obligation to accept any of my projects [such as] housing, education, healthcare, social benefits.” This fuckery was not overlooked by the people. As a mayor, she is under the obligation to serve the people indiscriminately and it is not her money that is being used for these programs--it’s from the people’s taxes! The people are paying her to serve them yet she had the audacity to say these shits. I urge her to keep talking herself out of politics. Surely no one will vote for her next election.
For my personal life, I am just taking courses in Yale under Paul Bloom: Introduction to Psychology and Moralities on Every Day Life. I am also studying the Introduction to Language. Moreover, I plan to indulge myself in art and in journalling. I shall strive to stay productive. Our classes resume on June-August. Sigh.

Bengaluru under red alert- CM to release new guidelines soon to curb Covid-19 spread
On Sunday, Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka said that Karnataka should be ready to face more stringent Covid-19 curbs after Jan 7th, the day when the night curfew will come to an end, as the government is all set to announce a new set of rules to contain the spread of the lethal virus. Karnataka Government has already imposed a night curfew in view of New Year Eve’s celebrations which will be on place toll January 7th. The minister added that with the Covid-19 cases increasing rapidly, there will be more stringent rules in place.
Bengaluru is in the Red Zone according to the list declared by the Union government. It is important to sound an alert in Bengaluru. We can save people's lives if we impose more restrictions in Bengaluru and reduce the number of hospitalizations," Ashoka said.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai also gave a statement on Sunday and said, “Our stand is very clear. In the past, lockdown was imposed. The same should not happen again. For this, we are taking stringent measures. People have to cooperate with us…We have to see how coronavirus is. We saw it increasing in a big way in Bengaluru. We will take a call keeping that in mind.”
On Sunday, Karnataka reported over 100 new Covid-19 cases and 5 deaths the positivity rate in the state is 0.86%. As of Sunday, the state had recorded over 64 micron infections. Even the Karnataka education minister BC Nagesh tested positive for Covid-19 and has mild symptoms.
Time and again, Bommai have given hints of exercising more stringent rules in the lieu of COVID-19. "In the days to come we will take certain important decisions," Bommai said earlier.

REMINDER: “Repeat” RT-PCR for those who initially tested POSITIVE shall NOT be required for the DISCHARGE and CLEARANCE of these patients. Why? There are some patients who “persistently” remain POSITIVE in RT-PCR even after 10 days of isolation. As long as wala ka ng symptoms for 3 days tulad ng lagnat, ubo at iba pa. I hope that the LGU’s, HR’s and other establishments will follow the DOH guidelines regarding RETURN TO WORK clearance of their employees. You will be causing more stress, worry and doubt to these people. Every decision that we make with Covid-19 patients is always based on studies and Science. #juanderjuaman https://www.instagram.com/p/COIuGOuDoCr/?igshid=szogppr89nq9

Lenten activities banned in Bataan town
#PHnews: Lenten activities banned in Bataan town
SAMAL, Bataan – Lenten activities held annually in this town during the Holy Week will be called off for the second straight year due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
Those doing penance here on Wednesday welcomed the temporary ban on their activities but felt sad that this will be the second Lenten season that they have to forego their penitential preparations and traditions.
“Siyempre hindi naman mapipigilan malungkot kaso pandemic kaya wala kaming magagawa (Of course, we feel sad but because of the pandemic we cannot do anything),” Jonady de Guzman, 2; and Marcos Angel, 40, both of Barangay Sapa said when asked how they felt about the ban.
Jonady has been a participant in the Cenakulo for 10 years but has played the role of Magdalena in the last five years. Her father, Andy de Guzman, is the present director and president and has played many roles in the cenakulo that has been in existence for many years.
Jonady said they have kept their costumes in a closet and raring to join the group once given the signal. She said she keeps in contact with the group through social media.
Angel has been a flagellant for 14 years with the vow to complete the penance for 16 straight years. As a flagellant, he uses bamboo beads to strike his bloodied back. His wish for his penance is for his children to have a good life.
He said that because he was unable to perform the flagellation last year and again this year, he has to go back to square one.
“Sumunod tayo kay mayor dahil para naman ito sa ating kabutihan. Wala tayong magagawa dahil ganoon talaga ang sitwasyon (Let us follow the mayor because it is for our own good. We can't do anything because that's the situation),” Angel said.
The temporary prohibition on the holding of Lenten activities was based on Executive Order No. 42 issued by Mayor Aida Macalinao.
The mayor said she has issued the EO where the holding of pabasa (reading of the passion), construction of kalbaryo (calvary), cenakulo and pinetensiya (penitence) like flagellant, carrying of the cross are temporarily prohibited.
Processions and other activities like Visita Iglesia are also disallowed.
Religious gatherings such as Holy Mass and similar activities held inside the church are allowed but with only 30 percent of the seating capacity filled and provided that strict health protocols like wearing of face masks and shields with social distancing and hand-sanitizing are followed.
The EO that calls for the strict implementation of health protocols is effective from March 23 to April 4, 2021.
Macalinao also imposes curfew from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m in all 14 barangays, except for essential travels.
A 24-hour curfew is set for minors aged below 15 years and senior citizens from 65 years and above, except for essential travels as defined in the order.
Liquor ban from March 24 to April 4, 2021 was also among the content of the EO.
The mayor said she was saddened by the report that this town has three Covid-19 cases with two already in quarantine and a four-month-old died in Manila. Another three, all rural health workers were tested positive although with mild symptoms.
She has directed the temporary closure of the rural health unit for two days for disinfection and contact tracing of those exposed is ongoing.
Samal is known for putting-up colorful kalbaryos where pabasa are held while flagellants carrying wooden crosses are common sights in this town on Holy Thursday and Good Friday.
Visitors come in droves in barangay Calaguiman here to witness the cenakulo or street play on the crucifixion of Christ where performers, especially the Roman soldiers, wear colorful costumes.
The Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI) in the town following the executive order has informed its members of the prohibition and asked to support activities allowed in the order. (PNA)

Third wave, of the virus can be prevented- says AIIMS director Randeep Guleria
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) director Randeep Guleria has just claimed that India can finally avoid the third wave of Coronavirus provided the people follow the COVID-19 norms. “I don’t think that we will see a third wave which will be as bad as the second wave”, Guleria said. The renowned pulmonologist recently received the Gitam Foundation Day Award that carried Rs 10 lakh.
The director was asked if there are higher chances of the third wave being more lethal for the children, the AIIMS director said that since the children are not vaccinated yet, they certainly are vulnerable to the infection.
“The general feeling is that adults are getting vaccinated, children are not being vaccinated and therefore if there is a new wave it will affect those who are more susceptible. Children will be more susceptible,” Guleria noted.
It was reported 543 children were reported positive for COVID-19 during the first ten days of August 2020. The report further cleared that the 88 children were within the age group of 0-9 years and 263 were 10-19 years old.
Guleria was also asked about the extent of the infection in people who are already vaccinated, the Doctor said that vaccinated people can get the infection but the symptoms were very mild in such people. He said that it clearly concludes that the vaccine helps in preventing death from disease.
“Infections are still happening but those infected are predominantly those who have not been vaccinated. That’s why we are saying more and more people need to get vaccinated”, Guleria said.
