A Journey of Support and Community Impact Small Business Saturday is an annual holiday that encourages shoppers to support local businesses. Taking place on the Saturday following Thanksgiving, it stands as a dedicated day to celebrate and rally support for the contributions small businesses make to their communities. This year, amid the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, the emphasis on supporting small businesses is more crucial than ever as they navigate and adapt to evolving circumstances. The History and Evolution: As of 2013, communities actively embraced the holiday, expressing solidarity by pledging support for their local businesses and organizations. The timeline of Small Business Saturday is marked by the following key milestones: 2010: Small Business Saturday was launched 2011: The U.S. Senate unanimously passes a resolution endorsing the day 2013: Over 1400 individuals become “Neighborhood Champions,” organizing local events 2015: The Small Business Administration (SBA) becomes a co-sponsor of Small Business Saturday 2020: Americans set a record by spending $19.8 billion on Small Business Saturday 2021: Shoppers surpass the previous year’s record, contributing over $20 billion Today, Small Business Saturday has the unwavering support from private sectors, the SBA, and Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), and NASA. For small business owners, their enterprises transcend mere commercial endeavors — they are extensions of their identities. Supporting local businesses in your community not only ensures their survival but also fosters thriving communities, establishing a symbiotic relationship between these businesses and the people they serve. This year, Small Business Saturday is on November 25, 2023.  Historically, the NASA Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP) has celebrated this annual holiday by launching a Small Business Saturday Campaign. Now, in 2023, NASA OSBP developed a comprehensive Small Business Saturday Digital Toolkit. This toolkit comprises of digital posters and a virtual background designed to serve as a call-to-action for small business program specialists to integrate it into meetings for a whole week. Our outreach extended beyond the toolkit, urging followers to embrace the theme of “Shop, Support and Sustain!” We invited everyone to display their support by shopping small and tagging us in their posts on social media. We continue to invite all individuals to help to make this movement a success! Keep an eye out for our upcoming social media posts, where we will be sharing informative strategy guides and an engaging Small Biz Bingo game. Your participation is key to amplifying the impact of this movement, and we look forward to having you on board for another year of supporting and celebrating local businesses. NASA OSBP is dedicated to championing and uplifting local businesses making an impact on Small Business Saturday and beyond! Editor: Maliya Malik, NASA Office of Small Business Programs Intern

Luxury Hotel Market Size, Future Trends, Growth Key Factors, Demand, Share, Application, Scope, and Opportunities Analysis by Outlook 2028
The global luxury hotel market size is projected to reach USD 238.49 billion by 2028, exhibiting a CAGR of 10.4% during the forecast period. Fortune Business Insights™ diagnoses this market in its report, titled “Luxury Hotel Market, 2021-2028”, which also states that the market value stood at USD 93.43 billion in 2020.
COVID-19 to Create Widespread Instability in the Hospitality Industry
The luxury hotel market growth is expected to shrink due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a market registering an astonishing decline of 60.82% in 2020 and reaching a value of USD 119.55 billion in 2021. One main reason for this unprecedented downturn in the hospitality industry is the steep drop in tourist activities worldwide. As per the estimations released by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), export revenues from tourist arrivals fell by approximately USD 910 billion to 1.2 trillion in 2020, potentially shrinking the global GDP by 1.5% to 2.8%. Hotels, in particular, have been the hardest hit. For example, according to the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA), 71% of hotels will not survive the next six months without federal assistance and 77% will have to lay-off workers. Luxury hotel chains, such as Le Meridien, have also resorted to cost-cutting, given the new travel bans and the possibility of movement restrictions. In sum, markets associated with the travel, tourism, and hospitality industry are set to enter a period of deep financial stress on account of the coronavirus.
Fortune Business Insights™ lists out all the luxury hotel market companies that are presently striving to reduce the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on the market:
Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group (Quarry Bay, Hong Kong)
Accor SA (Issy-les-Moulineaux, France)
Shangri-La Asia Limited (Quarry Bay, Hong Kong)
Four Seasons Hotel Limited (Toronto, Canada)
Hyatt Hotels Corporation (Chicago, U.S.)
The Indian Hotels Company Limited (Mumbai, India)
Kempinski Hotels S.A. (Geneva, Switzerland)
Hilton Hotels & Resorts (McLean, U.S.)
InterContinental Hotels Group plc (Denham, U.K.)
Marriott International, Inc. (Maryland, U.S.)
Emergence of Eco-friendly Luxury Hotels to Accelerate the Market
The development of hotels guided by the principles of environmental sustainability has altered perceptions surrounding luxury accommodations. The increasing environmental consciousness among new-age travelers has redefined the dynamics hitherto governing the hospitality industry, leading to the construction of eco-friendly luxury hotel brands. For example, the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort in Hawaii has been conceived to minimize waste and emissions. The resort features a solar water heater system and variable speed chillers, while in the in-room settings, the glassware is made from recycled materials along with automated temperature controls. Similarly, at the Saffire Freycinet in Tasmania, Australia, Modwood is used as a wood substitute, LED technology is extensively utilized to make the entire facility energy-efficient, and natural cycle airflow systems have also been installed. The growing popularity of such premium properties in exotic locations is set to accelerate the expansion of this market.
Highlights of the Report
This report offers a detailed analysis of the various market drivers and trends, along with a careful study of the various market restraints. Moreover, the report contains a comprehensive examination of the regional dynamics of the market, as well as an in-depth evaluation of the competitive landscape of the market. In addition to these factors, the report supplies an exhaustive assessment of all market segments.
Market Segments
Based on room type, the market has been divided into luxury, upper-upscale, and upscale. By category, the market has been segmented into chain and independent. On the basis of geography, this market has been segregated into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, South America, and the Middle East & Africa.
Regional Insights
High Spending Capacity of Travelers to Fuel the Market in North America
Backed by a high spending potential of consumers, North America is anticipated to dominate the luxury hotel market share during the forecast period. A report by the US Travel Association showed that in 2019, domestic travelers spent USD 972 billion, of which roughly 25% was spent on lodging facilities. Furthermore, expenditures on hotels and resorts of both domestic and international travelers rose by 4.1% in 2019 from 2018 levels, as per the report, indicating a strong willingness to spend on vacations by consumers. The North America market size stood at USD 30.66 billion in 2020.
In Europe, the market will enjoy a period of sustained growth as the continent is home to some most attractive tourist places on the planet. The UNWTO, for instance, observed that Europe accounted for nearly half of all tourist arrivals globally in 2018. In Asia Pacific, on the other hand, the expanding upper-middle-class and middle-class populations are pulling international luxury hotel chains to establish their presence in countries such as India, China, and Indonesia.
Competitive Landscape
Key Players to Tap Opportunities in Developing Markets
With the standard of living transforming in the emerging markets of Asia and Africa, luxury hotel brands are actively amplifying their presence and operations in these countries. Several hotel chains are coming up with new offers and creating unique economy segments and services to attract travelers and entrench their regional position.
Industry Developments:
January 2021: Marriott International announced its plans of opening 100 new properties across Asia Pacific in 2021. The aim is to bring brands and exquisite experiences to travelers and guests in unexplored destinations in the region.
March 2020: Luxe Collection opened its first branded property in New York City, the Luxe Life Hotel New York. To this will be added new 4- and 5-star hotels – Zeavola Resort (Thailand), Il Tornabuoni (Florence), Eurostars Magnificent Mile (Chicago), CoolRooms Atocha (Spain), and The Belmont (Dallas).

A soothing selection of live streams from around the world, a chance to explore without leaving your home. I'm particularly obsessed with the South Africa stream - live from an elephant reserve! So far this morning I've seen buffalo, antelope, giraffes and a family of zebras down by the watering hole!

Tips for ordering pizza during the apocalypse!
Hi guys, I work as an insider in a popular pizza chain, and things are just AWFUL working there due to this pandemic and such SO I want to create a quick guide for everyone who’s getting takeout pizza to make the whole process easier on both customer and worker!
If you’re ordering pizza, either pick up or delivery, please try to abide by these:
1. Order Online
If you’re able to, use the websites or pizza apps if available, set up your order from there, instantly send it to us! This is always the BEST WAY to order any food.
Can I still make phone calls?
Yes you can, but please remember:
The phones at our work are all shared and are high contact surfaces. During a rush of orders, there also isn’t always time for us to go and disinfect all of them.
Delivery drivers, who go in and out of the store and door to door, also handle the phones, and thus, the more we pick up the phones, the higher risk we put ourselves. We aim to disinfect them hourly, but if we get 30 orders in an hour, well...
Plus, it can be very difficult to hear you, and the process is longer this way.
How do I get good deals if I can’t talk to a person?
Read the website carefully, check for deals!
On Dominos, for example, things like the Mix or Match 2 or more for $5.99 and large carry-out $7.99 are EXTREMELY good deals! So good that we on the phone are NOT allowed to offer them - you have to tell us that’s what you want!
Alternatively, get a hold of the extension Honey! It’ll automatically apply all coupons available to get you the best deals!
Please avoid coming to the store and placing your order there. We want to minimize how many people we have in our chains and how long they spend there. We want people to come in, pick up their pizza, and go. Online order is the best option, phone your second best - don’t order in person please!
2. Pay When You Order
If you’re ordering online, this is even easier to accomplish! Whip out your card, plug that in, pay!
If you’re ordering on the phone, please speak slowly and clearly - if I had a dollar for the number of times a customer read their card number out to me on our outdated phones either way too fast, mumbled it, or both, I’d have enough to quit working here. Say each digit clearly, and please do NOT rush it - we are humans! Some of us with auditory processing issues (like me) - last thing we want to do is have you repeat it 2, 3 more times because something went wrong.
What if I can only pay with cash?
We want to avoid handling cash because of how many hands money goes through, but if you have to:
Don’t bring bills larger than $20
Strive to bring the exact amount that is due (i KNOW we all have loose change lying around that never gets used)
Be READY to hand the cash over, do not make us wait, do not spend too much time in the lobby fishing out each bill!
By paying beforehand, you save a LOT of time! When picking up, you just walk in, ask for your order, get it, get out. For delivery, they just get there, hand you your food, get out. Boom, easy! No fumbling with cash or change or any of that, and we reduce the amount of time we need to be in contact with each other!
3. Cover Your Face!
If you’re coming in person to pick up your food, please, please wear a mask, or keep your face covered! You’re entering the space where we cook food and serve them to hundreds of people every day - please try not to bring in more germs than is called for!
Other tips for picking up your food:
Don’t stick your head through the order window / get insanely close to the register/computer, you don’t need to be that close (seriously!)
Keep your distance from other customers, ESPECIALLY if the store is small (my location has everyone crammed like sardines and can only allow One customer at a time inside)
If you’re gonna start a fight with the employees over burnt food or whatever, please either 1. don’t, or 2. have the courtesy to do it over the phone instead of in person, yelling WILL spread covid
4. Leave a Tip!
TIP YOUR DRIVERS!
If it’s a contactless delivery, then wherever you requested to have the delivery placed, please leave a tip in either a baggie, or someplace where the driver can find! Use the delivery instructions to let the driver know where to find the tip
And a lesser known/done thing: TIP YOUR INSIDERS!
Paying with cash in store? Or just picking up your food in general? Did you know you can tip the cashier? Do so! They’re working in a hot kitchen crammed together making food for hundreds every day on a flat rate - tip them if you can if you’re not getting delivery!
My location used to have the card terminal allow the option to tip through card. If yours has that, do it
If you brought more cash than your order cost, let the cashier keep the change!
Toss a coin to your cashier
Some delivery drivers are getting interesting tips lately I’ve noticed. A few items I’ve seen drivers get tipped with:
spare gloves
facemasks
corona beer (LOL)
hand sanitizer
toilet paper
I’ve never seen that but you know what? A tip’s a tip LOL you have no idea how much we all appreciate it
-
I’m sure this can apply for more than just pizza chains, but I’m mainly speaking from experience. This is what I’ve observed, and are tips I feel that can help all of us achieve a MUCH more efficient system of getting your food to you! Please bear these in mind when ordering in these, dare I say it, ~uncertain times~
Stay safe everyone!

Kaiju Survival Guide: 2020 edition
Inspired by a (now deleted) Tweet that said “pacific rim takes place in 2020 and the kaiju haven’t emerged yet. but seeing how this year is going, we should be prepared”
So. Kaiju have come out of seemingly nowhere and decided to wreak havoc. Now the kaiju we’re dealing with in our timeline might not be skyscraper-sized aliens, but it’s alien enough and can be deadly.
Let’s start with the basics:
Survival Tip #1: Get out of harm’s way.
Tumblr media
Take shelter in a kaiju bunker indoors and only go out for the necessities.
Survival Tip #2. Find an apocalypse buddy to keep you sane.
Tumblr media
Spouse, significant other, sibling, stranger you met five seconds ago - doesn’t matter as long as you trust them. But choose wisely, ‘cause you’ll be talking to them a lot.
Survival Tip #3: Stand with your fellow humans.
Tumblr media
Nobody stands alone.
OPTIONAL: Give a rousing speech.
Tumblr media
If it’s a message for those at the front lines, even better.

A decade-old guide to preparing for a zombie apocalypse has resurfaced on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website, amid fresh paranoia caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Social media and Google traffic surged around the topic…
