I wonder what would have happened if Corona had pulled an Alfred the second she found out what Lyctorhood entails.

For one thing, Silas might not fight Ianthe if she's found crying and screaming over her sister's suicide rather than smug about the murder of her cavalier, though that probably just buys him thirty minutes until he attempts to duel Cytherea instead.

RIP mayonnaise boy, you were never going to make it out of this book alive.

I'm not sure Ianthe can even pull herself together enough to fight Cytherea in this timeline. She might just survive on the other end of Canaan House as Cytherea's blind spot while Gideon once again throws herself on a fence.

So as a result we get two insane girls performing lobotomies on each other to save the person who has defined their whole life.

Ianthe's fake past, ironically, probably has her as the darling admired golden only child of Ida. She keeps catching herself being instinctively sneaky and wondering where the hell that impulse is coming from, since she's always reveled in the spotlight (right?) before being distracted by seizures.

Both of the new Saints spend most of their time bleeding from their ears, giving nonsensical replies to every question they're asked, and generally acting like lunatics.

Mercymorn takes it as proof that trying to recruit these infants was a mistake from the start. "Look at them, John!! One of them keeps having seizures if I so much as mention Gideon and the other passes out at the sight of her own reflection!! I should have known this whole idea was a mistake from the start!! Children as fists!! Infants as gestures!! Yuck!!! Pfaugh!!!"

But hey, at least Ianthe gets to keep both of her arms.

hello, can you explain to me in more clarity your “waxen” theory regarding Ianthe? I’m not picking up on what this implies but it’s making my brain itch.

Sort of! Totally fair question, I just don't have a lot of clarity myself in that I don't have a fully formed theory lol. There's definitely some links and parallels in verbiage that are pinging on my radar, so I do think something's funky, but I wouldn't say I'm fully on board with this yet. I'm just playing in the sandbox Tamsyn has provided us, tossing out ideas and thinking out loud. But I can go into some more detail, and add some more thoughts that have occurred to me since I posted that last night.

Anyway! So let's first lay out all the times we get someone described as some type of wax. At various points in HtN, we get the descriptions "a shoddy wax cast of some more beautiful sculpture," a "wax figure in a pink dolly dress," a "wax figure in pale purple chiffon," and "waxen face" for Ianthe. We also see that descriptor used a few other times for other people throughout the series. In GtN, Harrow's parents' bodies are called "waxy" and the first introduction of Protesilaus (as the beguiling corpse) says he was "waxen looking in the sunlight." In NtN, Kiriona's skin is said to have a "weird, waxy quality," then Naberius's skin is called "waxen" when they first meet up with Ianthe, and again a few pages later it again references the "waxen, handsome face". What I'm getting at here is that every time this sort of description is deployed, it's in reference to a dead body that's been preserved, manipulated, and is essentially masquerading as a living person... except for Ianthe.

We also know there are a multitude of times that she's described as looking like a poor copy of Coronabeth. There's that "shoddy wax cast of some more beautiful sculpture" line, her first introduction calls her a "starved shadow" of her sister ("or the first an illuminated reflection [of Ianthe]," and actually, off the top of my head I don't know that we ever see their descriptions framed that way again... I'd have to investigate this more later, but this might be the only time that Corona is described as a "better" version of Ianthe, rather than Ianthe being a "worse" version of Corona, which is interesting), there's a point where it says "The second twin was as though the first had been taken to pieces and put back together without any genius. She wore a robe of the same cloth and colour, but on her it was a beautiful shroud on a mummy," etc etc etc. I know there's more, but I'm too lazy to go pull the rest of the quotes and you get the picture by this point I'm sure. So nearly all of these situate her, at least visually, as a copy or approximation of Coronabeth, and one that doesn't quite live up to original at that.

So now let's pick apart this snippet of conversation we overhear between Silas and Ianthe at Magnus and Abigail's dinner party a bit. Ianthe says she was born via "surgical means," which I'm assuming is referring to a C-section delivery (or whatever the necromantic equivalent is) and notes that Corona is a few minutes older. Silas seems surprised (or perhaps concerned?) that they "risked intervention" and Ianthe says Corona had "removed [her] source of oxygen". At this point Silas says, "A wasted opportunity, I'd think." I had always taken this for him just being a dick and implying he wished she'd died in the womb, but coming back to it with this new angle... well. She says "Corona's birth put my survivability somewhere around definite nil." And I'm wondering if that doesn't tie to Harrow's comment about infant deaths generating "enough thanergy to take out the entire planet." Basically, could Silas have been implying that the Tridentarii's parents wasted an opportunity to use the thanergy from baby Ianthe's death to power up Corona?

Harrow says that twins are an ill omen, but the text hasn't come back to that as of yet. Given the difficulty necromancers experience with pregnancy, I'd imagine twins would could be especially dangerous and that in and of itself could be considered an ill omen. Ianthe's comments certainly suggest that their mother carried the pregnancy, although I don't think we know for certain whether she was a necromancer. I am so intensely curious about the Tridentarii's childhood and their parents; we get so many gestures towards some really twisted family dynamics, but very little in the way of concrete explanations. Particularly relevant here, I'd love to know more about their father wanting a "matched set" and how that came about. Did they intentionally plan for twins from the start? Was it only once they knew they were having twins that that became a factor? What's the significance there?

Outside of those "waxy" descriptors, Ianthe tends to be described as much more sickly looking than even other necromancers. We know that necromancers on the whole tend towards a phenotype of physical weakness, but even still, there's an emphasis on this with Ianthe beyond that. This might be due in part to narrator bias (coughGideoncough) or the direct juxtaposition between her and Coronabeth's vivaciousness, but what really jumps out at me as contributing to this effect is how frequently she's described as being colorless, pale, washed out, bloodless, pallid, anemic, etc etc etc. It very much makes me think of the way the color drains away from Colum (and even the rest of the room and the others in it) when Silas is siphoning. Silas himself is also often described as colorless ("mayonnaise uncle," "milk man") but not so much in a way that implies frailty as much as I read it as implying a stark coldness, in line with the very black-and-white moral authority he presumes to wield, a purported "purity", much different than Ianthe's colorlessness. With Ianthe, you get a sense that her palette ought to have been or perhaps was closer to Corona's, but the color's been drained away; where Corona's hair is described as golden, Ianthe's is "canned butter", for example. Almost like the life's been siphoned out, one might say.

So to kind of circle back around, do I actually think Ianthe is dead or a corpse like the other "wax" figures we've seen? Nah. Between Harrow and Palamedes, and especially Palamedes's medical necromancy, I think we would have heard about it by now if that were the case. But I do think it's entirely plausible that she's had a bit of a brush with death and that perhaps she's never quite fully come back from, and I do think she's being intentionally positioned as somewhat adjacent to death. If their parents were wanting twins from the outset, perhaps they used necromantic means to encourage the conception. Or if the pregnancy was as high-risk as I suspect it was, perhaps she'd died or nearly died at birth and been resuscitated. Their parents may have gone to extremes to keep her alive, to maintain their matched set. Given the themes of this series, I do feel it's necessary to draw a distinction between "resuscitation" and "resurrection" although they are curiously adjacent to one another. For all the text has grappled with dying and staying dead, dying and coming back, dying and choosing whether or not to return... we haven't touched on what something like a "near death experience" would look like. I'd imagine having that sort of experience, even at an incredibly young age, might lead one to be fascinated with, to use Ianthe's own words, "the place between death and life... the place between release and disappearance."

Do you think Adira knew who Eugene was when she met him? I feel like realistically she wouldn’t, because she only ever saw him as an infant; but at the same time it is a cartoon and knowing her, she may have put it together and theorized it at some point.

And, do you think Varian ever met Adira and/or Hector? Or at least knew of them? He didn’t know about the Brotherhood but I imagine Adira likely met him a some point considering she knew who he was. And she seems like someone who would want to meet her Nephew. However I can’t imagine he ever met Hector.

(I find the mental image of Adira watching the battle in Old Corona go down and just being like “huh my nephew has spunk” and just eating an apple as it all goes down, very funny.)

I have answered this before, so I'll be brief: no, I don't think she recognized him. I think if she did, she'd have made something of it. She had ample opportunity, and I feel like it would mean so much to her to have found him that she might have kept it to herself for a while, but not forever. She did reveal, after all, that she knew that Varian is Quirin's son.

Also, yeah, not only was he an infant the last time she saw him, that was literally 25 years before. I sincerely doubt she'd have any idea what he looked like as an adult. Brown hair and eyes aren't exactly uncommon.

Qurin literally kept his past in a box that he never touched to the point that it was dusty. I don't think Varian ever met them before the finale, nor knew they existed. He didn't even know Quirin was a knight in another kingdom. Adira was looking for the Sundrop, I don't see her casually dropping in on Quirin.

Call me boring or whatever but I don't get much thrill out of imagining that the more mysterious characters in the series ever interacted with the less mysterious characters before the series began.

Is nobody gonna say anything about TTS S3 E9, Be Very Afraid?

Okay, so what I'm really getting at is Varian. Like, are we gonna talk about how this 15 (I think that's how old he was at the time) year old kid's worst fear? When he was examining the red rocks for the first time after finding Ruddiger (his beloved chonky raccoon whom he wasn't sure would be okay again) and all of a sudden he sees his father encased in the amber rocks again, pleading for help? And he still managed to get to Rapunzel. It probably felt like he was leaving his father to die before he saw other people (who all pretty much hated him, so he couldn't ask for help) running from nothing, and only then did he realize that what he was seeing wasn't real.

But it was real for Varian. His worst fear had already happened, and he didn't want to go down that route again, because he knew what laid at the end of that path; he had seen it. Yet he still accompanies Rapunzel to stop the rocks. It's his idea to use the solution that encased his father. He carries it around in his backpack. He climbs up, seeing amber rock below, ready to encase him (it's not real and is just his fear, but it's visible in a few shots). He is willing to use that solution to stop the rocks, despite knowing full well what could happen. He climbs the red rocks, just barely saving Corona in the nick of time. And during the process, he almost fell to his death. Many times. One time he actually did fall, but Rapunzel caught him. He saved Corona despite the citizens openly disliking and ridiculing him (for instance, Feldspar the cobbler saying something along the lines of "Don't you have a kingdom to overthrow?", and presumably his wife and even her infant, turning up her nose and crying at the sight of Varian respectively).

I think Varian deserves an award of some sort. Like, you can see how genuinely happy he is when Rapunzel hugs him after he stop the rocks. He needed more appreciation from other characters in the show.

“You betcha, Kiddo!” Lucifer chirped as they made their way through the massive amusement park.

“Oh, my gosh!” Charlie nearly shrieked. “This is going to be so much fun!”

“Hm….a little garish and over the top….” Alastor chided. “So, very fitting of your taste, your majesty.”

Lucifer gave the deer sinner a flat glare.

“…fuck off.”

“Dad!”

There was a little beep from Lucifer’s phone and his face fell.

He held up a finger, making Charlie pause her lecture.

“Oh…hey, have something I need to take care of.” He said softly. “You guys go have fun! I’ll catch up later!”

Alastor noticed the tightness of the king’s smile, a brow rising just a fraction in curiosity.

“Okay, Dad... Oh! Angel, Niffty! Wait!” Charlie shouted as the two sinners ran off in opposite directions.

Alastor waited until the others had run off, then melted into the shadows, trying to locate the king of Hell. He went down many twists and turns and slipped under the cracks of many a sealed doors to find the king.

And so he did, in a darkened room, floor to ceiling shelves lined with files and binders making up the walls, a single armchair and end table facing a wall with a window taking up the top half.

He was talking softly to a clown looking sinner with two hair poofs that resembled purple cotton candy, her tan skin littered with little pale pink hearts under her eyes and matching painted lips, both whispering softly.

Lucifer nodded and gave her a tiny little chocolate drop shaped like a duck. He whispered back to her and she nodded and shuffled off, bright blue poof dress bouncing as she rushed off.

Lucifer turned to the large bay window, looking very troubled.

Alastor materialized behind him and was about to say something snarky when he heard it…

Laughter…

Children’s laughter, to be precise.

He looked over the king’s shoulder to see a huge almost endless smaller park.

“What the fuck—”

“Ah!” Lucifer nearly leaped a foot in the air.

Alastor paid no mind to the flailing angel.

“Gah! You creepy fuck!” Lucifer hissed. “What are you doing here?!”

Alastor instead walked around him to look out the window.

Children…

Thousands of children from teens...to infants being rocked by several nurses dressed as dolls or clowns or even old nursemaids.

“What is this?” Alastor asked, an ear flicking with distress.

“Alastor…please don’t tell Charlie…” Lucifer pleaded.

He looked away from Alastor and sighed.

Looking out the window, he watched the children eat and play and run around screaming excitedly.

“…why are they…”

“In hell? Good question…I tried to find out but…hell is forever or whatever bullshit they peddle…” Lucifer said. “They started appearing not too long after we started getting regular sinners. Just…fell like little shooting stars…and with the stupidest tags and files…”

"Fell?!" Alastor asked, recalling his own violent entrance to hell. He couldn't imagine an infant...

Lucifer extended his wings, answering Alastor and calming him slightly.

He motioned to the window, Alastor looking where Lucifer dragged his finger on the glass. He pointed at a little boy playing with a sparkler by a few shimmering puddles of clear water.

“Jason. Accidently set his house on fire. Tagged with arson and murder since he was the one playing with the candle that took him and the babysitter.”

Lucifer then pointed to a teen girl laying in a patch of pretty orange poppy flowers and talking to a toddler who was dozing off on the older girl’s stomach. Alastor's ears lowered seeing the older girl rubbing the younger's back, as if experienced with small children.

“Yali, committed suicide at fifteen. But little Carolina attached to her. The tot threw a massive fit that distracted her mother from the road…” Lucifer sighed. “And the babies…”

A droplet of golden blood traveled from his bottom lip where a too sharp tooth dug in.

“Well…I’m sure you could imagine the stupid reason…”

Alastor’s eyes widened a fraction.

“Unbaptized?” He asked.

Lucifer’s silence spoke volumes.

“Why aren’t there more?” Alastor asked. “If the reasons are so petty?”

“There was a reform concerning children in heaven a few centuries back…these are the ones who slipped through the cracks…”

“So this is one of heaven’s dirty little secrets?”

Lucifer let out a flat chuckle.

“More like their biggest fuck up…and heaven doesn’t fuck up. As far as they want everyone else to know, these souls don’t exist…so I keep them here…safe to live the best day ever again and again…”

Alastor’s neck cracked as he turned to the king.

“Parton?”

Lucifer took a deep breath and stared at them.

“You wipe their memories…” Alastor whispered. “To keep them from...getting bored?”

“If they get bored, they get curious and venture outside and…” Lucifer took off his hat, holding it to his chest.

Alastor took a step closer to the window.

“They were out during the exterminations?”

“Some of the elder ones of their own choice…” Lucifer said softly.

“So you keep them in a cage to never do anything. Just relive the same day over and over?” He growled softly, static buzzibg around him.

Lucifer whirled on him, thin whip like tail lashing from side to side and horns ripping through his temples.

"What happens to a child who cannot grow?” He snarled at the sinner, taking a step forward. “What happens to a six year old who forever has the body of a six year old?”

Fire flowed from the king of hell’s mouth.

“Tell me, Alastor!” He roared, the flames causing Alastor’s hair and coat to singe.

“I get it.” He snarled back, but none of the venom aimed at the fallen angel.

“I don’t think you do. I tried to keep them safe, but they would wander out and older sinners…” Lucifer turned away, scrubbing at his eyes with a tightly clentched fist.

Alastor looked out the children in their blissful ignorance.

Today would be the best day ever…

And it would repeat...over and over and over again for all eternity.

“Suffer the little children…” Alastor muttered. “How woefully ironic the king of hell would understand that more than Heaven…”

“Only one new soul in the last hundred years…” Lucifer said. “So they’re improving…”

Alastor saw the clown like sinner sitting with a dazed looking ten year old boy. She gave him the chocolate, and he rubbed his eyes before gasping and looking around in wonder.

She called over a group of children, who excitedly took the boy into their group, rushing off to a massive carousel.

Alastor glanced at Lucifer, noting how tired and dark his eyes were.

“I won't tell Charlie…" Alastor promised. "This could break the poor girl…”

Lucifer let out thankful huff.

“…One day however…maybe they will only remember falling…and an angel catching them and letting them play before his daughter reunites them with their families…” Alastor hummed. “Or some other sentimental drivel…”

Lucifer gave a small exhausted smile as they both looked through the window in that darkened room.

Listening to the joyful screams and laughter.

I'm bad at summaries, honestly, hate them - it's like condense your whole story idea into a few lines that convinces people to read . Anyways, does this seem alright for a summary?

Eleven years after the battle of Zhan Tiri, Varian and Cassandra are living happily in Corona with their infant daughter. Living the life it seemed they were always meant to live, Cassandra a captain of the guards, Varian royal science adviser. Everything seems perfect, but there are risks forming underneath, the Saporians have not given up on their plans to take over Corona and Varian is secretly researching the moonstone, not convinced it’s actually gone. Then, as a death hits their family, Varian’s obsession with harnessing the powers of the moonstone for medical purposes leaves him distant from all those he loves.

Rapunzel Corona;

Rapunzel was kidnapped from the hospital when she was an infant. The woman she thought was her mother, Gothel, kept her in a hidden house in the woods. Rapunzel was nearly never let outside, and when she was, she was only allowed a few feet away from the house. Since she could never leave, she wasn't even able to be vaccinated which made her get very sick very often. Gothel also would leave for days without restocking the fridge, so Rapunzel would occasionally go days without eating. Gothel had told her that the world was cruel and dangerous, that everything she did was to protect Rapunzel. Rapunzel's hair grew out to about her knees, but it got tangled up very often and was hard to take care of. When the cops found her at 12, Rapunzel was several pounds underweight and her hair was matted in many places. The house was covered in paintings and under her bed was multiple bloody tissues and clothes since Rapunzel wasn't ever taunt about her period. She screamed at the cops and hit at them when they tried taking her out of the house out of fear but since she was so weak, it only took two cops to carry her out and to a police station. She sobbed and refused to talk to anyone for hours before she inevitably fell asleep.

When she woke up, she was given water and soup and spoke a bit. When Fredrick and Arianna came to see their daughter, Arianna physically couldn't stop crying and refused to stop hugging her, but Rapunzel had no idea how to react so she just sat there. She began living with her parents and being taken care of properly. Rapunzel was considered an outcast throughout middle school because of how disconnected from everyone else she was. She met her cousins, Elsa and Anna, when she was 14. By high school, she was still adjusting but she had become less afraid of people and the world and wanted to make as many friends as possible. She had met Jack and Merida at 15 and became good friends with them. She met Hiccup when she was sitting with Merida and Jack one day during lunch and he entered where they were sitting.

Rapunzel is now 22, an art major, and is dating Jack, Merida, and Hiccup. She works at an art studio and volunteers at pet shelters.

Merida Dunbroch;

Merida and her mother had a good relationship until she turned 10, which is when things started getting rocky. The two fought a lot and barely actually talked. One day, when she was 13, Merida accidentally gave her mother a blueberry pastry that was made with rotten blueberries, and Eleanore was sent to the hospital because of food poisoning. While Eleanore was away, Merida spent time in the woods. She stumbled upon a large black bear and managed to escape, only facing a scar on her face from the incident. After Eleanor was home, the two started going to therapy together. At 14, she met all her friends.

She's now 21 and a athletic training major. She works as a mechanic and is dating Jack, Hiccup, and Rapunzel.

Screw it, here’s a weird lil thing where all the Heroes are toddlers. Yeah, it’s like a magical daycare.

Marilan: A little fighter who always carries around her toy sword. She’s a bit clumsy, but a true warrior. Loves playing with fireworks.

AdriPunzel: The prince of Corona, who was almost kidnapped by Gabriel Gothel. A cheery boy with hair that can heal booboos with a song he learned.

TiAlya: A kid who loves to cook and act like an adult. She likes making pretend food for her friends. Keep frogs out of the daycare, she’s been known to turn them into princes with her kiss.

Fairy GodBro: This tiny fairy is only a toddler, but he’s already learning how to make his friends happy with wishes. Poor guy keeps losing his wand. He always likes to help out CinderZoe and AdriPunzel with their struggles.

Maxiro: Though he’s only an infant, Max is a genius with a love for making toy robots. Has a stuffed animal called Markov. Loves to hang with his older cousin.

Alladix: This cute troublemaker is always one jump ahead of the teachers. Always nabbing toys and candy to share with her fellow toddlers.

Kimules: The demigod son of Zeus and Hera. Kim was stripped of most of his godliness by Hades, so he’s just a really strong toddler. A happy and sporty little boy who sometimes doesn’t know his own strength.

AriOndine: The youngest daughter of King Arturo. A curious and bright little ball of sunshine who’s excited to meet new friends on the surface. Still has trouble with walking, not just because used to have fins, but because she’s also a toddler. Her and Kim are in an adorable “puppy-love” relationship.

MarcElsa: A timid and smart little prince with the power of creating ice. He likes scribbling nonsense (which he thinks is writing) and playing with his best friend, Nath. (He’s the one who always helps put Nath to sleep with his cold hands.) He loves creating snowmen who can give him warm hugs.

Sleeping Nath: A quiet prince who’s always doodling and finger painting. Due to a curse, Nath gets very sleepy and will randomly nod off during daycare. For him, it’s always naptime. He’s really scared of spinning needles.

Sabrinnochio: A wooden toddler who’ll tell you she doesn’t like strings. Sticks very close to BluRore, the little fairy who gave her life. Loves putting on little shows for her friends.

Snow Mylene: The nicest kid in daycare, who’s songs always attract little animal friends. Always trying to let her friends know about the environment and nature.

QuasiIvan: A toddler with a hunched back, Ivan’s a shy kid who’s afraid of being seen as scary. Was taken in by the Church as a baby, and likes talking to his gargoyle friends. He protects his daycare pals from bullies.

JuleBeast: A little goth who’s family was cursed by a sorcerer. At random times in the day, Juleka becomes an adorable little beast. She loves being with Roselle, and tries to be scary, but everyone knows she’s an adorable sweetie.

MaestroLuka: A mellow and musical boy who’s Juleka’s twin brother. Sometimes he transforms into a toy piano, and lets Juleka play him. Has a lil crush on Marilan.

Roselle: A kind girl with a love for fairytales. She is incredibly helpful and loves to read stories to her classmates. Helps Juleka when she’s feeling upset.

Chloestasia: A bratty kid who brags about herself to other kids. She is learning how to not be so mean, starting by being nicer to Zoe.

Medwhump May Day 28: Head Injury

I've decided to bring back a ridiculously old story I wrote when I was ten or so for TTS. Enjoy!

Why did it have to be happening now?

They were miles away from any other people, and there was no time to find a doctor. Rapunzel screamed, and Varian made a mental note to never go anywhere with a pregnant person near their due date.

“This was such a fun idea, Hugo!” Rapunzel beamed.

Hugo smiled back.

“Well, I can’t take all of the credit. As much as I hate to admit it, it was also Fitzherbert’s idea. He thought that some fresh air would be good for you; and for Goggles.”

“Huh?” Varian’s head shot up from where he had been hunched over a book.

Hugo rolled his eyes.

“Come on, Var. What about a vacation don’t you get? You’re supposed to be relaxing, not working.”

“Hugo, I don’t have time for a vacation,” Varian ran a hand through his hair,”I still have a full schedule to work through.”

“Varian, it’s only a short trip for the weekend. You can take a vacation. In fact, I’m royally decreeing that you take one.” Rapunzel cut in.

Varian opened his mouth to argue, but seemingly decided against it.

“So what’s Eugene planning on doing while we’re away?”

Rapunzel thought a moment before replying.

“I’m not really sure. I think he said something about running drills and maybe taking Sunny to a park if he had time. But I’m sure he’s doing fine.”

In Corona

“Lance, quick! Go grab the girls, and I’ll get Sunny. Rapunzel is gone, and this is the perfect time to try out that new sled.”

“But there’s no snow.”

“Who needs snow!? We have stairs!”

“Yeah, he’s probably fine.”

“Hey, there’s the water!” Hugo called.

They turned to face the front of the cart. There was a vast expanse of shimmering blue. The sun glinted on the surface, causing the water to glisten magically. There was a small strip of sand between the land and ocean, which was also bathed in the sunlight.

“Wow, this is so beautiful!”Rapunzel exclaimed.

“Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s go!

“Varian!”

The group had been at the beach for a few hours, splashing around and chatting. Hugo had left a few moments ago, leaving Rapunzel and Varian alone. Varian had been brushing sand from Ruddiger’s fur when Rapunzel’s cry caught his attention. Ruddiger started sprinting towards the queen, and the alchemist followed. Rapunzel was sitting on the beach towel, color draining from her face.

“What’s wrong?” Varian exclaimed, kneeling down next to her.

“Varian, my water just broke.”

“What! We have to go back-”

“Varian, there’s not enough time. The baby’s coming now. You’re going to have to help me.”

“Me!? No, no, no, I can’t! I don’t know how to deliver a baby! What if I mess something up! I’m not qualified to-”

“Varian.”

Varian focused back on Rapunzel. She gazed at him, a soft smile dancing on her lips.

“I trust you.”

Varian took a breath

“O-okay”

Hugo ran through the forest.

He had left the beach a few minutes ago to take care of business, leaving Varian and Rapunzel by themselves. He had just been walking back when a shrill scream caught his attention. They were the only ones nearby, so Hugo immediately broke into a sprint.

He turned a corner along the road, his shoes slipping in the sand. He could see Varian kneeling next to Rapunzel, who was breathing raggedly. Varian’s head turned as Hugo reached where they were, his face pale.

“Rapunzel’s going into labor. I don’t know what to do!”

The alchemist looked close to tears.

Hugo quickly shot into action.

“Okay. Var, get some towels, and wet them down with one of the canteens. I’ll stay with Rapunzel.”

Hugo glanced at the queen.

”Ready to have a baby?”

“Come on, last stretch. You’re so close. One more push!”

Rapunzel let out a cry of pain, before gasping for breath. Hugo grinned, holding up the infant, who was now wrapped in a towel.

“Congrats on your new baby girl!”He said, handing the child to Rapunzel, who smiled, tears running down her blotchy skin.

Hugo turned to Varian, who had been relatively silent, but helpful.

“Thanks for the he- are you okay?”Hugo asked, eyebrows knitting together in concern.

Varian had gone ashen, swaying slightly where he stood.

“I’s… I’s alotta blood… sorry.” Varian’s eyes rolled into his head as he fell to the ground with a loud thud.

“Varian!”

Hugo kneeled down next to the alchemist, propping his head in his lap. He felt his hands grow sticky; pulling them away from Varian's head, he saw that they were smeared with blood.

“Oh Fu-”

“Hugo, what happened? Is he okay!?”

Rapunzel propped herself up, the child letting out a few noises of protests.

“He passed out and hit his head. I should’ve remembered the whole blood thing. I’m going to go grab bandages; he’s bleeding. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a concussion. Can you keep an eye on him?”

Rapunzel nodded.

“Great. Holler if you need anything. I’ll be right back.”

Varian groggily blinked, trying to clear his vision. His head hurt, and everything was blurry. He could just make out a blond figure in front of him.

“Hugo?”

“Oh, good. You’re awake. How are you feeling?”

“M’fine. What happened?” Varian tried to move from his position, but Hugo quickly grabbed his shoulder.

“Quit moving, idiot. You cut open your head, and now I have to bandage it. Just hold still, and I’ll be done in a sec.”

They sat in silence, before Hugo stepped back.

“There, that should stop the bleeding until we get back to Corona.”

Hugo sat down next to him, placing Varian's hand in his own.

“Be more careful, Goggles.” He murmured, planting a kiss on his cheek.

Varian blushed, before turning his attention to Rapunzel.

“So, how are you doing?”

“Oh, I’m good. Not my first time.”She beamed, cradling her child closer to her chest.

“So, what’d you name her?”

“I think I’m going to call her Beatrice Cass Fitzherbert , or Bea for short.”

“That’s a great name. I wonder what Eugene will think?”

“Well, we’ll see when we get there!”

Hugo got out of the wagon first, helping Rapunzel and then Varian down. They opened the castle doors, ready to show off the new baby, when Sunny ran up to them; well, limped over.

Rapunzel gasped.

“Sunny, what happened! Oh, your face!”

There was a long scrape along the child’s forehead, and bruises were quickly forming on his arms and legs.

“I’m okay, mommy. But daddy’s a little stuck.”

Sunny pulled on Rapunzel’s dress, guiding her and the group down one of the halls.

“What do you mean daddy’s- EUGENE FITZHERBERT! YOU HAVE TEN SECONDS TO EXPLAIN WHY YOU’RE STUCK IN THE FAMILY PORTRAIT !”

Marinette:

Sabine-Fa Zhou: Marinette’s mother, a renowned warrior who was wounded in battle, walking with a cane. She is wise and compassionate, always trying to help her daughter.

Tom-Fa Li: Marinette’s father, who loves his daughter as much as his wife, though he worries for her quite a bit more.

Gina-Grandmother Fa: Marinette’s grandmother, who lives with the family. She is never afraid to speak her mind, no matter what anyone thinks. She gifted Tikki to Marinette.

Adrien:

Gabriel- Mother Gothel: Adrien’s “father”, who kept him confined in the tower all his life. He stole Adrien as an infant and used the magic of his hair to stay young. He emotionally abused the boy and made him believe “Father Knows Best” No matter what.

Nathalie & Emilie-Rulers of Corona: Adrien’s true mothers. Emilie fell gravely ill and Nathalie sought out the magical golden flower to heal her. Because of this, Adrien was born with his magical hair. Every year, they release lanterns into the sky on their son’s birthday, hoping it will help him find his way home.

Alya:

Marlena-Eudora: Alya’s mother, a hardworking cook. She supports Alya’s dreams and aspirations, but wants nothing more than for her daughters to be happy.

Otis-James(✝): Alya’s late father, a devoted caretaker of animals. He encouraged Alya to follow her passions and work hard for her goals.

Nora: Alya’s older sister, who works long hours at a shipyard to help support the family. She’s protective, maybe a little too much at times.

Ella/Etta: Alya’s twin younger sisters, much less mischievous in this universe. They help around the house, but still cause some trouble.

Nathaniel:

Aya(🎨)-Queen Leah: Nathaniel’s mother, the queen of the Kurtz kingdom. When her son was cursed, she had every spinning wheel in the kingdom burned. Unlike Queen Leah, she keeps her son with her, the castle under heavy guard with protection spells from the good fairies.

Marc:

Kiran(🎨)-Anna: Marc’s younger brother, who he accidentally wounded with his ice powers. He misses his older brother terribly and doesn’t understand why they aren’t as close as they used to be.

Penny & Alyssa(🎨)(✝)-Rulers of Arendelle: Marc and Kiran’s mothers. They never blamed Marc for the accident, but sadly they were killed in a shipwreck mere months later. Their deaths were mourned by their sons and the entire kingdom.

Max:

Claudie-Aunt Cass: Max’s mother, who drives the town bus but dreams of being an astronaut. She does her best to look after her son, encouraging him in his pursuits.

Terrance(AU Original)(✝️)-Tadashi: Max’s older cousin, who he saw as a brother. He was a brilliant programmer, and he died in a fire at Max’s old school. Designed Markov.

Kim:

(These are my HC names for them)

Mr. Le(Lanh)-Amphitryon & Mr. Ature(Etienne)-Alcmene: Farmers in the countryside, they found the infant Kim after he had just been turned mortal and raised him as their own. They eventually decided to send him to Francois, after he discovered his true heritage and the people of the town grew especially hostile towards him.

Bob Roth- Hades: Kim’s uncle, the lord of the Underworld. He wants to take over Olympus and was the one responsible for turning his nephew into a mortal. He’ll do whatever it takes to win, even targeting those Kim cares for the most.

Zeus & Hera (Disney Characters)- Kim’s biological parents (Imagine them looking more like him), the king and queen of Olympus. His father encourages him to aspire to be true hero, in order to regain his godhood. They are unaware of Bob’s plot to overthrow them.

Alix:

Alim(✝)-Cassim: Alix’s father, the ‘king of thieves’. Unlike Cassim, he cared deeply for his children and always kept them safe. He was killed when one of his men betrayed him. Alix was only four at the time.

Jalil(✝): Alix’s older brother who was killed alongside her father. She named her pet monkey after him.

Mylene:

Fred(✝): Mylene’s beloved and kind father, the king of Haprele kingdom. He adored his daughter with all his heart, just as the people of the kingdom did them both. He was poisoned by his second wife.

Sarah(Producer Lady)- Evil Queen: King Fred’s second wife, intensely jealous of Mylene for her kindness, beauty and how she’s loved by the kingdom. After poisoning Fred, she drove Mylene out of the kingdom. She plans to kill the girl before graduation.

Sabrina:

Roger- Gepetto: Sabrina’s father, a woodcarver, who raised her as his daughter when she was brought to life. He teaches her to be honest and trustworthy, but can sometimes be forgetful. He sued the puppet show she was part of for child abuse, but the case was lost due to Sabrina technically not being a human child.

Rose:

Ali-Maurice: Rose’s older brother, a quirky inventor and a caretaker of the village children. Some people think he’s crazy, but Rose loves him dearly.

Juleka:

(Anarka and Jagged are divorced but still governed the land together. Penny is Juleka and Luka’s stepmother.)

Anarka-Mrs. Potts: Juleka’s mother, the lady of the castle. She was turned into a teapot, but is just as fiery as she was as a human. She cares for her daughter greatly, comforting and advising her.

Jagged-Lumiere: The lord of the castle and Juleka’s father. Turned into a candelabra, his favorite thing to do is still entertaining guests. He tries his best to keep his daughter’s spirits up.

Penny-Cogsworth: Jagged’s wife, turned into a antique clock. She keeps the palace in order, and does her best to maintain some semblance of normalcy for her stepchildren.

Luka: Juleka’s brother, transformed by the curse into a grand piano. He can no longer speak, but comforts and sometimes teases his sister with his music.

Ondine:

Arturo(Dad)- King Triton: Very strict and stern, he forbids his daughters from going to the surface, even going so far as to destroy his youngest daughter’s collection of objects from the land, driving her to go to the sea witch.

Olivia- The eldest of the seven, acts motherly towards all her sisters. Can also be a bit bossy.

Ophelia- The second eldest, and most studious. Quiet and withdrawn, she prefers to stay in her room and read.

Octavia- The third oldest and the “gifted” child. Can play six different instruments.

Olga- Ondine’s favorite sister, kind and helpful. Always willing to listen and give advice.

Oona- The third youngest, an absolute hopeless romantic. She’s often lost in dreamland.

Olympia- The second youngest, she can be a bit hostile and teases Ondine very often. Very competitive.

Kagami:

Tomoe-Fergus/Eleanor: Kagami’s mother, the warrior queen of the Tsurugi kingdom. She was blinded in a battle with the demon bear, Yamikuma. She is incredibly strict and controlling with her daughter.

Daisuke, Daijiro, Daiki (AU ORIGINALS)-Hamish, Hubert and Harris: Kagami’s three younger brothers, the princes of the kingdom. They are extremely mischievous, driving their mother and the castle staff crazy.

Zoe:

Chloé-Anastasia: Zoe’s half-sister, who she’s forced to essentially serve as a maid. However, Chloe may not be completely cruel at heart. A blowout with her sister and a chance exchange with her mother get her to realize she may need to change her ways.

Audrey-Lady Tremaine: Chloé and Zoe’s cruel mother, a selfish aristocrat who hates it when things don’t go her way. She had Zoe with another man, and had her treated as a servant all her life. Chloe completely emulates her.

Andre: Zoe’s stepfather, who is kinder to her than her sister and mother, though he’s hesitant to stand up for her. He cows down to whatever his wife and daughter want.

Mireille:

Ari(🎨)-Mufasa(✝): Mireille’s mother, and the queen of the Pride Lands. She was wise and strong, and Mireille adored and idolized her. Five years ago, she was tricked by her brother which ended in her dying in a wildebeest stampede. Mireille worries about disappointing her.

Scar(Disney Character): Mireille’s wicked uncle, who was responsible for her mother’s death. He currently rules the Pride Lands, leaving them in a state of despair and desolation. He believes his niece to be dead.

Reshma:

Dayalan & Aabha(🎨)- Julieta & Augustin: Reshma’s caring parents. Her mother has the ability to heal with her cooking, while her father has no gift due to marrying into the family. They love all three of their daughters and support them no matter what.

Lasya (AU ORIGINAL)- Luisa: Reshma’s younger sister, blessed with incredible strength. She is quiet and gentle, much shyer than Luisa. She takes on a massive amount of work and Reshma worries a lot about her.

Mithra (AU ORIGINAL)- Mirabel: Reshma’s youngest sister, the only one in the family not to receive a gift. Spirited and energetic, she tends to snap at people who criticize her for that. She and Reshma, unlike Isa and Mira, have always had a good, loving relationship.

Amrita(🎨)- Abuela: The matriarch of the family, she lost her husband to a band of raiders years before, causing her to become cold and harsh. She demands perfection and service from the family, unaware she is alienating them with her actions.

Austin T:

Karan & Saanvi Tomassian(🎨)- Sultan & Sultana of Agrabah: Austin’s parents and the rulers of Agrabah. After their son was kidnapped at two years old, they kept him on the palace grounds out of his fear for his safety. And maybe some…outside influence…

**Fun addition: In my Miraculous Canon HC’s, Ondine has twin eight-year old brothers, Rico and Duncan. You thought the Cesaire twins were bad…well, I’m guessing Ella and Etta have never purposely gotten *Nino* electrocuted. (Ondine is oblivious to their true nature. They love their sister, thankfully.) Her mom’s name is Elsie.)

Do you think if Rapunzel was taken by Gothel at say the same age Cass canonically got adopted by the Captain, do you think she (Rapunzel) would have realized she was the lost princess sooner?

You mean if she was 4 when she got kidnapped, rather than an infant? Potentially.

In a very real sense, long-term memories being forming around age 2. (I have memories of when my parents were still married, and they got divorced when I was 2.)

But in a story-telling sense, where would be the fun in that? I mean... yes, it would be fun to have a small child or young teenager escaping the tower without Eugene and going into the world to find the king and queen who are her real parents, but in terms of how Tangled works, that's not very satisfying.

For one thing, part of what triggered her memories was seeing the crown. Part was being told that there was a Lost Princess. Another was seeing the mural for herself, and recognizing herself in both the queen and the baby princess. And the last thing was getting her hands on a physical copy of the Corona sun. Without those four things the memories likely never would have been triggered. If she remembered her mobile and parents at all, it likely would have been in a sense of vague memories of her mother used to have friends over, or maybe something she dreamed a long time ago.

But I also think Gothel would have a much more difficult time kidnapping her at age 4. 4-year-olds have personalities, and 4-year-old princesses are taught things such as to call for guards or bite people she doesn't know who are trying to take her.

Anyway, there's good potential fanfic material there, but I don't think it would work for the actual story.

*tw: parental death* born to king edmund and queen alexis, rulers of the dark kingdom, horace eugene fitzherbert was meant to be a prince. but when an opal dropped down to their land and began to wreak havoc, the king had made the decision to destroy it. in a failed attempt to do just that, an event that ultimately killed horace's mother and destroyed the kingdom, the king had no choice but to send the citizens away for their own safety - including his infant son.

he grew up in an orphanage in corona and went by his middle name, eugene, although to this day he's under the impression it's his first and he has no middle. with nothing but his imagination to fill in the blanks of his past, eugene grew up to focus on helping the other kids at the orphanage and dream of his parents as heroes meant to come back from him when the time was right.

at seventeen, he escaped the orphanage and left a past he knew nothing about behind, adopting the moniker flynn rider (after his favorite storybook character) and went on to leave eugene fitzherbert and all of his undiscovered history behind.

the trials of adulthood came fast and flynn realized way too quickly just how much money and resources were needed for daily survival. he quickly adapted, however, when he found himself surrounded by people who could teach him how to do just that - by taking it himself.

this new life of theft got him in trouble, of course, the kingdom of corona eventually becoming littered with wanted posters that donned his gorgeous face. there was something exciting about this extended era of, well, running from the cops - but it catches up with him eventually. it's, in part, what makes him run to elias.

as soon as flynn gets to elias, he runs into reagan - a girl he had only met once before but managed to make a permanent impression on him all the same. when he found her unexpectedly, locked away in a tower - it turned into a 3-day adventure that started with an escape heist and ended in a lantern festival he could never forget. showed him a side of himself he never got a chance to see before. reuniting with the girl only brings that out in him again.

the move from corona to elias allows for a bit of a flynn rider soft reset. allows him to find the adventure without the risk of wanted posters flying around elias, too.

what's to come ;

at this time, flynn has no idea of his royal background. he had learned to accept, in his own way, that he wouldn't know about his birth parents or the life stripped from him when he was dropped off at the orphanage. he had created the story himself in his head and was okay with accepting that as fact. but soon, the truth behind the downfall of the dark kingdom will unveil itself. king edmund has been waiting on the right time to potentially revive the land. and when he does - the dark kingdom will need its prince.  // this will be updated later, but for now you can read about flynn learning of his lineage ( and not believing it ! ) here .

Yes in many ways Azrael is similar to Crona

Azrael is approximately 5 years old when his soul and physical form take shape. Like Kid, he came into existence at a set age rather than as an infant

Crona left Death City shortly after Maka passed. They were too hurt by her loss and while they cared about their friends and baby Maia, they needed to take care of themself and get away from the city. In the fic's timeline they are stationed out of the country to do research on Black Blood. Stein and Marie were in close contact with Crona, and Stein worked closely with them on their research. Crona visits Death City every now and then but generally avoids it. We actually planned to include Crona in Terrible Things but had to cut it for time and simplicity. They were going to have an arc as Maia's mentor, since they are the most experienced with Black Blood. If i remember correctly, she would have stayed with Crona instead of Spirit when Kid and Soul left to find Black Star and Tsubaki.

That's so funny 🤣 okay so I'm gonna be real: i actually avoid Corona and quarantine fics like the plague (HA!) i just do not find them fun or romantic bc my essential worker scientist ass was outside every day. Idk how y'all were functioning stuck at home, I'd have lost my mind. I do miss the emptier streets though; much much less traffic.

One thing i have heard about quarantine babies (that i think would definitely apply to Phi as an infant) is that they're much more vocal. It's probably from actually being around their people more. But she's definitely gonna babble and mimic a lot more, and talk sooner. Screaming her poor head off at nights that keep her fathers awake (and there is no "going out" to catch a break 😭)

She's not keeping that mask on properly as a 3 year old 😭 but they're going to buy her plenty of colorful, fun ones and teach her EXACTLY how to wear them, "post" pandemic. She tries to trade them in class with her friends, the exact opposite of its purpose.

Extra: if she was a little kid, say 8 or so instead a baby, she'd be on Zoom with Kairos and they'd be trying to do homework, but every five minutes or so they're going to be like "look at this cat video!"
