James to Cordelia, Circa 1904
Daisy, my Daisy,
When I was a boy, I recall asking my father whether love was supposed to hurt. He said yes, said that we suffered for love because love was worth it.
I misunderstood. Angel, I misunderstood.
Because while love is supposed to be the most exquisite pain that breaks down your walls and sands your edges down to smoothness, it also is intended to rebuild. To create. To inspire. And what I feel for you makes me feel like a new man each say. When I see you, your red hair loose before a fire that cannot hope to burn as brightly as the passion you ignite within me, I feel myself being reshaped into something better, kinder, fiercer.
When I see myself reflected in your stubborn and brave eyes, I am more than simply James Herondale, the boy who has eternally felt like a lesser version of my father's shining star. I feel like a proud man, the sort that could inspire hope in the heart of the bravest and most ferocious warrior I have ever known.
Love doesn't hurt. Not truly. Love helps you to reshape yourself, to rise from the ashes like a Phoenix when you break. Love only hurts insofar as it subsumes all other things, makes you its servant. As you have made me yours.
Daisy. You once said that the nickname made you sound as though you were a pretty little girl in pigtails, but that is not what I think of when I hear it. I think of a brave girl who once saved a life in a field of flowers, and of the stunning woman that she grew into. I have spent my life thinking that I ought to be the star, but in reality, I realise nw that I was put here to help you burn, to help you smolder, to help you light the match that saved the world. And there is no purpose I would rather serve. I love you, Cordelia Katayoun Carstairs. More than I have ever loved anything.
The idea that I once called you nothing more than a friend is laughable. Though you are a friend to me - the best I have ever known - my feelings go beyond the feasible boundaries of what friendship could be. For you, I am undone. For you, I am remade. And for you, I would gladly be rebuilt over and over.
Every day. For the rest of my life. With you by my side, I look forward to each one.
With the most profound, painless, perfect love,
Your James

everyday, i mourn the lost potential of my sweet baby Cordelia Katayoun Carstairs who could've been such an interesting character because she was kind and hopeful and optimistic despite being trained as a warrior and it would've been so interesting to see her growth and development as she made friends and utilized the smartness we saw in Chain of Gold but was ultimately reduced to a sexy lamp and therapist because Cassandra's too mayonnaise to give her the same respect that she gave her white characters

Ok so my first language is Farsi and i just wanted to share some of my favorite endearments with you. I like to imagine the Carstairs siblings using these while talking to their men, or teaching these to their men, since both Thomas and James know Farsi but can obviously use learning some extra soft phrases.
Jānam / Jan-e dēlam جانم / جانِ دلم
Jān in persian means life, soul. When you call someone jānam, you're calling them your life or your soul. Jān-e dēlam is another way of using it, and it means "my heart's soul", or "my heart's life". You can use both just to call someone, the way you may call someone dear, or idk, babe. but the way i like it best is for answering someone's calling you. For example:
James: um, Daisy...
Cordelia: Jānam?
James: can you please pass me the sugar?
Which translates to:
James: Daisy?
Cordelia: Yes, My Soul? Yes, The Person for Whom I'm Willing to Give My Life? do speak, Dear Human Being Who I Love Deep Down in My Entire Being? (I'm not making it up it means all this!)
James, tearing up: wH –
Another example:
Thomas: Alastair?
Alastair: Jān-e dēl-e Alastair? (a.k.a: what were you meaning to tell me, You Who Are Alastair's Heart's Soul? You Who Are The Reason Alastair's Heart (=his love, affection, tenderness) Lives Within his Chest?
And this phrase is actually used, and very commonly. I'm not making it up.
Fadāt besham / ghorboonet beram فدات بشم / قربونت برم
Both mean "I'm willing to be sacrificed for you". Commonly used, for when you want to express lots of tenderness.
Doret begardam دورت بگردم
Another way of saying the latter one, but with more ✨ spice✨. Its literal translation is "I would dance around you". That sounds weird in English, i know. But hear me out: you know how bugs can't help themselves getting close to light sources? There's this trope in Persian literature, about The Candle and The Butterfly. The Butterfly is always flying around The Candle, so close, because it's so in love with The Candle that it can't survive being away from it. The Butterfly keeps dancing around The Candle, admiring it. It's a tragic love story: The Butterfly's wings will always burn, flying that close to The Candle, and The Candle will cry tears of wax, seeing its lover's sad end, until there's nothing left of its body, and it, too, will die after The Butterfly. it's used to say i would be there for you, love you, adore you, even if it's going to cause me such a terrible death. It means in my opinion you're worth being sacrificed to.
Golam گلم
Gol is the Persian word for flower. It's so common to call your beloved golam, which translates to "my flower". Flower in Persian literature is usually used as a symbol of lover, since birds seem to be in love with it, and a symbol of beauty, since, well, it's beautiful. So by calling someone your gol, you're telling them they're beautiful and lovely and you love them so much.
Negar نگار
The word itself means a beautiful, artfully done piece of art (usually drawings and stuff like that). But since Persian poets are all a little bit Extra (well, aren't all poets, really?) They started using this word when referring to their lover, and they did it so often that now negar is used as another way of saying "lover", empathizing the fact that said lover is beautiful (and not just beautiful by appearance and looks, since the beauty of art itself, sinks so much deeper than just the colors and shapes you can see at first sight. God, Matthew would love all this). Oh, by the way, the word Negar is also used as a girl's name – not that you can only call your lover your negar if they're a girl.
Sanam صنم
This one's another completely irrelevant word whose meaning was changed by the poets. Sanam means idol. You call someone your sanam when you're so madly in love with them that they literally become your god. (Thinking about Mr. Hozier, huh?)
So. These are what i can think of right now! Hope you enjoy skjsksks.

gonna totally nerd out for a second and talk about the carstair sibling’s names. vibe-wise, they go together wonderfully, and they also have similar celtic origins.
cordelia is from cordeilla, a character in the original king leir, probably adapted itself from the welsh name creiddylad, which could possibly mean ‘heart of the sea’. meaning-wise, it suits cordelia perfectly, but cordelia is the name of the youngest daughter in king lear. cordelia is the only one of her sisters to remain truly loyal to her father, which provides some obvious parallel to elias and by extension alastair. popularity wise, cordelia was actually fairly popular at the time, and therefore historically accurate as well.
alastair is a scottish variation of alexander, which means ‘defender of men’. alexander is the name of a) alexander lightwood, famous shadowhunter gay, and b) alexander the great, famous historical gay. (also anna and christopher’s little brother? probably not relevant.) and maybe this is just personal taste but Alastair is such an evil sounding name. like harry potter villain or some shit, possibly representative of his introduction into the story as an antagonist. also the fact that his name alaSTAIR carSTAIRs maybe implies that his name wasn’t as well thought out or chosen with much care... mayhaps symbolic of his relationship to his parents? or mayhaps he was never meant to have the last name carstairs...
i love their middle names too. ‘cordelia katayoun’ and ‘alastair esfandiyar’. katayoun and esfandiyar are both characters in the persian epic shahnameh. (i’ve not read it so i can’t properly compare the characters but i know katayoun is esfandiyar’s mother.) both of the siblings love literature and stories, and given the the fact that their middle names, almost certainly chosen by their mother, show a love of literature makes it clear that they get that love from their mom. additionally, esfandiyar isn’t a common spelling of that name, a fact that is also true for alastair’s first name.

A FLUFFY OMELET CONT.
Behold the fluffy continuation of this angsty and a bit smutty piece.
Seriously I cannot stop writing, and I need to cease because I have to work and provide for my book buying needs. Best of luck to me!
Please do tell me what you think of this one! Thank you so much!
Dawn just broke when he woke up, James have noticed by the pale yellow hue of the sky by Cordelia’s window. His wife is peacefully sleeping at his arms, with a small smile on her angelic face. He can’t help himself, he smiled too. Realizing that he could wake up to this everyday and could never tire of it. Noting to himself, to call some help immediately to move some of his belongings on the other room to hers.
All of a sudden Cordelia groaned, snuggling closer to him. Eyes still heavy, but starting to open. She tilted her face to him, eyes half open.
“Good morning.” She said hoarsely, voice barely recognizable.
“Good morning, indeed.” He replied before planting a kiss on her forehead, feeling her smile against his chest.
“Have you been awake long?” asked Cordelia.
“No. I just woken up as well.”
“Let us grab some breakfast, I’m sure Effie is awake now.” She was about to stand, but he held on to her hand stopping her. “Why darling? Is something wrong?” she asked worriedly.
“Everything is great, my love. I just… I want you here in my arms for a minute more. If that is fine with you, of course.” Said James.
Cordelia just chuckled and rested her head on his chest once more.
“Daisy?”
Cordelia hummed in response.
“Will you marry me?”
“What are you talking about? We are already married, James.” Cordelia laughed. “If you remembered. There was a ceremony, me in that outrageous gold confection of a gown, you in that gold suit that unbelievably made your eyes even more beautiful, and cousin Jem, playing exquisitely as I walked down the aisle.” She recounted wistfully.
“Yes, but for the right reasons this time. I would like to marry you again for right reasons this time. Not for a promise of a year, but for as long as we both shall live.” Said James, holding on to Cordelia’s hand and moving it closer to his heart.
“Oh.” She looked up at him, with a sparkle on her eyes. “How do you propose we do that? Another ceremony? It is quite expensive you know.”
“I might have an idea.” He carefully scooted aside, and went over to his jacket to get his stele. “There is still the matter of our second runes.”
Cordelia was surprised, she sat up showing her dishelved hair, bring the sheets up her chests to cover up. James joined her sitting on the edge of the bed. He held his hand out to her, offering the stele. “Would you like to go first?”
Cordelia carefully took the stele from him. Smiling nervously, he placed her hand right over where his heart beats, looking at him. She raised the stele on her hand, then nodded to him before proceeding to draw the rune.
“Set me a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm.” she recited while she drew the rune on his chest and James holding her other hand. “For love is strong as death; the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.” and James could not agree more.
When Cordelia finished, she looked at what she drew with a smile, tracing them with her finger. She looked at James, offering the stele towards him.
James knew the exactly where her heart resides, then proceeded to draw her runes, and repeating the vows. “Cordelia Katayoun Carstairs Herondale, now that I have found you, I will not let you go.” said James after he have drawn the rune.
Cordelia placed her palm on his cheek. “James Morgan Henry Herondale, now that I have found you, I will not let you go. I love you.”
“I love you too, my Daisy.” James sets the stele aside, and kissed her wife deeply, falling them both back to the bed.
“Oh! pish posh. Why bother.” Effie shouted at them, which startled them, and James frantically hiding his naked body under the sheets.
“Good morning, Effie.” James greeted mischievously.
Effie looked furious, she stormed out still holding the folded linens on her arms, that she was probably supposed to bring them in the room.
They laughed once she was gone.
“We should probably establish her knocking before coming into our rooms now.” James commented.
“We probably should.” said Cordelia. “We should also probably get dressed for breakfast and torment Effie more.” she suggested with a wicked glint on her eyes.
Seeing this made James’ chest expand with joy. He has never looked forward to forever this much in his life. With a deep kiss, he agreed to his wife, and joined her to start a day of their promised lives.
The vows were taken from Fairytale of London. I was wondering why they were different from what were said from Chain of Iron, but I assumed that it was supposed to be different. Don’t quote me on that I am not entirely sure. The former (Fairytale of London) just feels more apt on this scenario.
Thank you so much for reading! :)

Cordelia is one of those women who's just always beautiful imo. Like, she can wear any colours, do her hair in any style. She's always impeccably gorgeous. Yes, I even think that she looked lovely in her Ashes of Roses outfit even if it "didn't suit her." I think Cordelia Katayoun Carstairs could leave her house in a burlap sack and still turn heads.
