******************Treech’s POV*****************
He was about to throw up.
It had now been five hours that Treech had been stuck in this train, and the lingering stench of stale animal manure combined with the periodic shaking of the car was more than enough to make the boy nauseous.
He slowly slid down to the floor searching for some for of relief, legs aching for rest after the prolonged period of standing. It made him feel less vulnerable, standing. Treech didn’t have the faintest clue as to why, maybe it was his height that he felt gave him an advantage. Whatever the reason, whenever he had felt intimidated or threatened he usually found himself refusing to rest for hours on end, not realizing the toll it took on his body until he finally sat down. The air in the car was thick and humid and Treech soon found himself shifting to remove his wool coat, before remembering was this car was previously used for. He would rather suffer the sweltering heat than ruin what could very well be his only form of protection.
Protection.
A scoff escaped his mouth before he could stop it, causing Lamina to look up from where she had buried her face into her knees, hiding in the corner of the car. Her auburn hair was beginning to frizz and tears stained her cheeks as they spilled from her puffy eyes. She was young, at only fifteen she was too young to be condemned to this.
They all were.
The pair had known each other back home. Lamina often babysitting Treech’s younger sister, Hazel when him and his pa were working in the forests and his ma was running errands. The ginger girl had always been quite timid, only exchanging a few brief words every now and then with him, and even then her voice always remained soft and gentle, barely above a whisper. Hazel adored her though, always returning home from their escapades with friendship bracelets adorning her wrists and flower crowns in her golden hair. And Treech loved nothing more than to see his baby sister happy. He had always held a soft spot in his heart for all the women in his life, Hazel, his ma, even Lamina had grown to be a surrogate little sister in his eyes. Which was why it was devastating to hear her name echoed out during the Reapings. He remembered how she had failed to hold back her tears as she was marched onto the rickety wooden platform, peacekeepers unnecessarily close to the poor girl only scaring her further. He had been so caught up in his immediate dread at Lamina’s named being picked that he barely noticed that the boy’s name was being selected.
“Treech Laurier.”
Shock couldn’t even begin to describe how he felt in those first few moments. He was eighteen and as it was his last year in the Reapings, Treech hadn’t thought himself as likely to be picked. An eerie silence fell across the male enclosure as his classmates and neighbors turned to face him, all wearing identical pitying faces. Realizing that peacekeepers would approach if he didn’t start moving, he maneuvered through the rows of teen boys and into the aisle of the town square. He felt a gloved hand push into his back, a peacekeeper, incase he decided to make a run for it. But Treech did none of that, slowly marching towards the platform where Lamina and the mayor stood, it took everything in him to keep the tears from escaping his eyes as he turned to see cameras pointed at him from every angle. Like a fucking animal. He ascended the stairs of the platform, eyes casted on the ground and the mayor mumbled out a quick speech, only glancing up once prompted to shake Lamina’s hand. As he peered into the already swollen eyes of the young girl, Treech knew he would do anything in his power to protect her, even if it came at his own demise. However as he was coming to peace with this newfound promise, peacekeepers tugged at their arms dragging them away from the crowds of citizens just as quickly as they were reaped. The District seven pair were then escorted out of the town square, two peacekeepers crowding both of them on either side. Treech finally allowed the tears to flow from his eyes no longer caring if he appeared weak, and after a few minutes of trudging along the dirts roads of their district, they came to a dilapidated train, the tracks it stood on rusted over from a year of no use. The peacekeepers ushered the pair into one of the cars, nudging the butts of their rifles into their backs as they did so. The metal door slammed behind the two and before their eyes could adjust to the sudden darkness, they were moving, albeit rather slowly. The first few hours were torture, Lamina’s sobs only further cementing the realization of their likely imminent deaths, nearly bringing the older boy to tears for the second time that day. Eventually Lamina’s sobs and shaky breaths died down to whimpers and moans, and as he stood against the metal wall, Treech racked his brain for anything, any memory or thought that would draw his attention away from the train car, and the Hunger Games, and the poor miserable girl sitting a few feet away from him. So he started listing things, at first mumbling the names of his family members under his breath, each murmur bringing a new fond memory to the boy’s head. It didn’t take long for this list to extend to his friends, boys he had grown up with and laughed alongside during the long work days in the forests; subsequently places entered the whispered mantra, his secret spot in the woods down by the lake, his house, even his old school. Nearly two hours went by like this as Treech carried on with this spiraling list, continuing to name everything and everyone he wanted to come back to when a high pitched whistling, followed by a screech that of metal on metal shook the boys out of his thoughts.
They were coming to a stop.
Treech was quick to stand up, not wanting to be caught in a vulnerable position when the doors opened. He could hear people from outside on the platform, peacekeepers barking orders and tributes groaning as they disembarked, disoriented and confused. He pressed his ear against the metal of the car, attempting to survey his surroundings without actually seeing them. But beyond the booming commands of soldiers and the trembling voices of young tributes, he also heard a girl too. She couldn’t have stood too far away from his car, and her voice didn’t carry any hints of fear or aggression, so she didn’t fall into the two categories of people he had listened to previously. From what the tall boy could make out, she seemed to be having a friendly chat with someone a few feet away from the train. It was beyond Treech who she would feel comfortable enough to talk with like that, the peacekeepers back home weren’t notorious for being welcoming, and although he hadn’t met any of the other tributes yet, he doubted any of them would be in the mood to carry a lighthearted conversation. As the voice gradually got closer and closer, Treech found himself listening for it more and more, disregarding his previous mission of ease dropping on the people outside in favor of tracking the captivating sound.
Her voice sounded like sunshine.
Too busy being drawn in by the captivating words, Treech barely had time to register the metal door of the car screeching open as he fell into the wall, nearly falling directly out onto the platform. He brought his hands to his forehead, groaning at the collision that was sure to leave a bruise. He turned away from the wall and towards Lamina, who had started to peer out into the train station before swiftly retracting her head. She was too scared to go first, and she was definitely more likely to hurt herself on the jump down, with the entrance to the train car being around five feet above the platform. Big brother instincts taking over, Treech quickly made his way over to the now open doorway, eyes roaming across the vast train station—he was listen for or rather looking for the girl with the enchanting voice. Failing to see anyone who could’ve possibly been his mystery girl, he heaved himself onto the platform. He then turned back to face Lamina, offering her his hand, trying to convince the younger girl to trust him enough to exit the shadows of the car and to jump onto the platform. After a few seconds passed the redheaded girl emerged from the corner of the train, meekly taking his hand in her own as she hopped onto the platform, falling into his chest as she did so. Treech let out a sigh of relief, grateful for the stench free, albeit polluted air. Lamina seemed to be more at ease too, her sniffles becoming fewer and farther between as she took in her surroundings; fear slowly melting from her face as she caught glimpse of the other younger tributes, some even younger than her. However that all came crashing down when something or someone startled the girl enough to shrink away into the material of his jacket, a small petrified whimper escaping her lips.
Lamina cowered behind him, her frail hands clutching onto his coat as she peered from behind his back. For a split second, Treech became concerned that a fight had broken out between the peacekeepers and tributes and quickly moved closer to his partner in an attempt at protection, but when he turned around to see who was Frightening the young girl so badly, he found himself standing face to face with the owner of the enrapturing voice.
“Hi, You must be Treech! i’m Y/N, your mentor!”

I was thinking what if was Mags friend with Coral and Mags was trying to win the games for her.

Dating Coral headcannons!
Divider made by: @/cafekitsune on tumblr
Before the hunger games set back in D4
Coral would SO be an overprotective girlfriend
Corals' love language is definitely touch. One could describe her need to have something touching you as an addiction
She adores holding your hand, having some part of her just touching you in some way, small kisses and things like that
She's not much of a sweet talker, though she will flirt with you from time to time
She's definitely taken you out to watch her fish showing off her raw strength
She LOVES to run her fingers through your hair no matter the lengths as long as she's touching you
Coral would SO flirt with you whilst you two are in the middle of an argument smirking and all when it catches you off guard
She is definitely the jealous type. She thought she's not insecure about your relationship, no, not at all. She just perfers if you stuck near her
Coral would adore your siblings if you had any, especially if they were your younger siblings since she's (I believe) an older sister herself
You definitely had at least once gotten her to walk with you on the beach. Like in those romance books that she so despises, she would have complained the whole time but secretly loved it as it was just her, you snd the ocean
Coral would have given you her jacket if she noticed you didn't have one and eventually you'd have a pile of just her jackets in your room since she refuses to take them back using an excuse like "keep em' they look better on you anyways"
Yes, you two have definitely gotten into arguments over her being protective of you, mainly just her scaring away your friends, your two personalitys clashing at times
Your friends have told you to leave coral at times when your arguments are no longer small petty ones, but you'd always tell them to buzz off they just didn't understand coral the way you did
I dont see coral as one of those people who are fans of pet names, but I could see her liking to call you 'darling or gorgeous' nothing special
During the hunger games
If you two just so happened to be in the hunger games, I feel she wouldn't be as gentle as before putting up a tough exterior, not that she would be cruel to you she would definitely be kinder to you than anyone else
Coral is not the nicest person during the game's, so when you're looking all checking out, the arena coral would have demanded you came over to her, forcing you to join her little group
She needed to have you in her view or at least near her most of the time in the arena, she didn't quite trust any of her members in the pack but if she really needed you to go looking with the other two she would send you off with treech not trusting tanner enough to not try something when she wasn't there
Coral would share her food with you even if you had gotten food from doing stunts in the cage she still would split her food with you making sure you ate enough
Coral would isolate you from the other tributes
Whether she was just being possessive or her just being cautious, she would be mad if you just started talking to other tributes, especially lucy Gray baird. Oh, that one would make her blood boil, seeing you two getting along in front of her.
She would have yelled at you to get back to her side, giving you the cold shoulder for a bit, glaring daggers into lucy grays head
If you just so happend to not get selected with coral, you would boost her need to survive and win the game, making her a little bit more 'bloodthirsty' and ruthless
Well, that's it for now. I'm still writing Tanner, Lamina, and treechs. I just haven't had much free time recently, sorry! I did enjoy writing this. Please do tell if there are spelling mistakes!

Pushing Coral onto her back in bed, then slipping down between her legs. She's insisting that you come back up and sit on her face, but you want her to feel good for a change. Plus she needs to learn how relax.
Lapping at her cunt with little kitten licks, riling her up and making her drip. Nipping at her thighs, sucking her clit. Just absolutely going to town on her.
Coral's back is arched, her fingers laced in your hair. Whines and low moans echo in the room and as she gets close to cumming she tries to pull you off.
It's unsuccessful as you lift her thighs onto your shoulders and wrap your arms around them. Keeping her right where you want her. She squeezes her thighs around your head but your assault on her cunt continues. Coral practically screams as her orgasm tears through her body, and you lick up every last drop that drools out of her pussy.
You finally let her pull you to her level, and she greedily kisses you, the taste of her own cum on your lips makes her groan.

If you're still doing hc bout tbosas can you do coral? She's my pookie and I miss her
Finally home so I could write this!! I like Coral's character, but she's not (personally) one of my favourites, so I hope I did her justice (:
Pre Hunger Games cause!! Happiness!!!
You and Coral met in school, probably because of a shared interest!!
You were both kids, Coral was playing with the sand behind the school (making castles etc.) and you joined her because you thought her castle was very cool
"Can you help me build a sand castle cool like yours?" and Coral rolled her eyes, "Fine. But you have to follow my instructions, okay?"
After that you two spent a lot of time together
You fell first but Coral fell harder
You started dating around age 15, you asked her out (you were terrified.)
"Coral? I was thinking, maybe, if you want... We could go to the beach tonight? Like we used to do when we were kids?" You're extremely nervous, kicking rocks down the path as you two walk side by side.
Coral shrugs, hands in her pockets, "Sure. I'll tell Mizzen-"
"Actually, I was wondering if it could be just the two of us?"
Coral accepts, though she's confused because you almost never hang out without Mizzen
When you arrive at the beach, you immediately throw yourself in the water, trying to have Coral to join you
I think Coral hates swimming tbh. I don't know why, I just get that feeling
Takes a bit of convincing but she finally jumps in the water with you
You start playing around like splashing each other and just, enjoying your time together
Then, when you get out and are drying your hair with a towel you finally grow the guts to confess your feelings
"Coral I... I think I like you. Like, as a crush." You specify, when you see Coral's confused look.
It takes her a bit to make what you said sink in, but when she does she walks over to you looking all serious
You're scared because you think you fucked up, but then she looks at you sweetly and goes "Can I kiss you?"
And then you kiss!!! It's like you imagined it during all those sleepless nights when you'd have sleepovers, dreaming of the moment you were currently living
You can't believe it's happening, and when you break apart, you start softly laughing, Coral joining in
You tell Mizzen the day after and he's like "I KNEW IT! Thought it'd take you less to date though"
You go on lots of dates (dates being code word for walking around the block and talking about anything
Which is something you did before too, but now you also kiss and cuddle
I can see Coral preparing some sort of picnic surprise for you for your birthday, under the tree where you two would relax under on summer nights
You spend the whole evening there together, cuddling and talking <3
Holding hands in class!!
Mizzen teasing you and feeling a bit jealous because he wants someone too! But he's so happy for you two!!
Coral has a soft spot for you. She's mean to everyone except you (and Mizzen duh)
"What a bitch, someone should push her off a cliff" "Coral no-"
Super protective towards you. If someone even dares to glare at you they're metaphorically dead
She's also a bit insecure because she's scared you'll leave her someday, but you reassure her daily you won't <3
If I'm not wrong Coral went to the Games at 16 but we pretend those didn't happen dw
So you guys just live your happily ever after in District 4

Chapter 1 - The Reaping
Y/N was filled with anticipation as she sat in the crowded hall, waiting for the Dean, Highbottom, to announce the mentors for the tributes.
The air was thick with tension as the speaker's voice boomed through the room, his eyes scanning the sea of faces before him.
Finally, he began to speak. "District one," he announced, his tone grave. "The boy goes to Livia Cardew, and the girl goes to Palmyra Monty."
As the words left his lips, the room erupted into a flurry of activity. The two mentors standing on either side of the speaker broke out into wide, triumphant smiles, no doubt thrilled to have secured what they considered to be the "best" tributes.
It angered her, why did they get the pick of the litter? They did have the best tributes, obviously they're the best. Why wouldn't they be? They're in District one. She sat there and glared at the two who just grinned widely.
Highbottom had coughed, surprisingly loudly which made everyone quiet down. "District two." She crossed her fingers tightly and looked up at the screens.
"Boy goes to Sejanus Plinth and the girl goes to Florus Friend."
She sat there and groaned but something caught her eye. She watched as Coriolanus congratulated Sejanus, everyone knew where Sejanus was really from. Sejanus didn't grin nor did he look happy, he looked angry. Was he angry that he had gotten a tribute from a good District?
"District three. Boy goes to Io Jasper and the girl goes to Urban Canville."
She sat there, waiting for her name to be called, hopefully next.
"District four." And he paused. What was wrong?
He coughed, loudly, yet again.
"Boy goes to Y/N L/N. Girl goes to Festus Creed." She knew everyone was now looking at the two of them but she ignored them and instead looked up at the screen to see her tribute.
It was a young boy who looked no older than thirteen, he was wearing a discoloured sweater vest, a pair of dirty jeans, a long-sleeved shirt and a blue hat. He has brown, medium-lengthed hair which was styled into a messy middle part.
She then quickly turned to the other screen to look at Festus' tribute, it was an older girl, probably around sixteen, and she looked a lot tougher than her tribute. She snarled at her classmate, hating how she got the weaker tribute. She quietly muttered a curse under her breath.
Highbottom started again. "District five. Boy goes to-"... he trailed off. She wasn't listening anymore, she sat there thinking about her tribute and how he was going to be the reason she won't win the plinth prize. She sulked.
"District 12. Boy goes to Lysistrata Vickers and the girl goes to... she goes to Coriolanus Snow." Her head snapped up at the name and she looked at him. He looked displeased, almost provoked. She had a small smirk on her face as she watched him tense up when he looked at his tribute on the screen.
... Was she an idiot? Why would she put a snake down that girls dress? A fool. I winced as she got punched to the floor. She quickly got up, though and walked up to the microphone on the stage.
"...Nothing you can take from me was ever worth keeping. Nothing you can take was ever worth keeping." The girl shakily sang to the crowd, following on from a younger girl in the crowd.
My head turned away from the screen due to the sound of Arachne mocking Coriolanus and the poor girl. Sure, I didn't like Coriolanus but God did I despise Arachne.
My head turned back to the screen. "You can't take my charm... can't take my humour. Can't take my wealth cause it's just a rumour. Nothing you can take... was ever worth keeping. You can't take my sass, you can't take my talking."
She stopped for a few seconds, looking at the camera.
"You can kiss my ass!" She screamed as loud as she could. And just before she left, she did some kind of bow. How weird...

Hey! I just suddenly had an idea for a fic so can I req something for coral x district 7 -> capitol reader? Where R is like Sejanus and moved from the districts to the capitol, before she moved though she was dating coral (ignore all the weird timeline stuff sdfjvjd). Years later she's given coral for her to mentor and basically their kinda reunion at the zoo where they sort out their misunderstandings and etc... (why do I actually love this concept) Thank you and feel free to change things around! Take care <33 - N
long lost lovers → coral
coral!tbosas x reader
notes → in which you and coral are reunited under troublesome circumstances. i made the reader from district four just to try and make it make a little more sense in my head :) this is such a good idea, i hope you like it!! feminine intended reader
warnings → the whole reunion part is a little rushed imo.. not edited & uploaded via iphone.
none of your classmates were rather fond of you. they thought it quite entitled that you had bought your way into the capitol, as if you wanted to be there in the first place. to them, you might as well have been "animal," along with all of the other district kids. you tried to keep quiet, in an attempt to avoid the torment they inflicted on you, and it worked for the most part. your counterpart, sejanus, was subject to similar circumstances as you, having moved to the capitol after the war had ended. he, on the other hand, had a much different plan of action than you. sejanus was very outspoken, a trait you admired, though it was not very appreciated by your classmates and teachers. having seen how they treated him when you first moved there, you decided it would be best if you just kept your mouth shut.
among some of the top students of the academy, focused mostly on your studies instead of your nonexistent social life, you were picked to be a mentor for the tenth annual hunger games. but it was also plausible that your parents had bought you a spot as a mentor to “push you out of your comfort zone.” it was more like punishment than privilege to you, being forced to mentor someone you may have known. faces flashed across the screen during the reapings, those of children of various ages, some more malnourished than others. dean highbottom called out names as the tributes were being announced. your breath hitched when he reached your assigned tribute. the district four girl, a rather familiar face. you hadn’t seen the girl in years, two, to be exact. all the memories you had with her, the feelings you forgot you could feel, which you thought you had left back in district four, came flooding back. you were itching to see her again, and you couldn’t help but wonder when that day would come, but you knew it couldn’t come fast enough.
it was agonizing, waiting for the time to come where you could visit coral. you had been thinking of what you would say since the day she was assigned to you. first and foremost, she was definitely due an apology. you had moved to the capitol without warning, awoken one day with directions to pack your most precious belongings. you left with no chance to say goodbye to coral. of course, you tried writing her tear stained letter after letter, but with no response for months on end, it was either she officially despised you, or your mother was intercepting your mail. you prayed it was the latter, but the day had finally come where you would find out. you hurriedly made your way to the zoo after collecting some of the finest capitol foods to offer her, in hopes that food would make the meeting a little more bearable for the both of you.
immediately, you caught sight of the girl. and oh, was she a sight for sore eyes. coral, your girl, the only person you could ever open up to, was so close to you after having been separated for so long. you lacked self-restraint, scrambling up to the bars like a lunatic. “coral!” you cried, causing heads to turn your way. her eyes met yours, a striking blue, just as beautiful as the last time you had seen them, but with a new tinge of anger that hadn’t been there before. she didn’t run up to you like you thought she would’ve. no, she stayed sat on her rock, staring at you, dumbfounded. had it been a mistake to come? maybe after all this time with no contact, she had really started to hate you. or worse, she had forgotten about you. it took her district partner, mizzen, nudging her to wake her from her daze. coral slowly got up, stick still in her hand, and hesitantly walked towards you. “coral, i’m so, so sorry,” you started, reaching for her hand before she aggressively pulled it back.
“save it. it’s not your fault i’m here,” she claimed, tone bitter, but underneath that, you could sense it was coming from a place of pain.
“about leaving, coral. i swear to you, i didn’t have a choice. my parents never told me anything, they made me pack the day we left. i tried writing, but they wouldn’t send my letters out,” you were about to cry, at this point. a part of coral wanted nothing more than to wipe your rising tears away and hold you close, forgetting about all the pain you caused by abandoning her. she could see where you were coming from, but her world had shattered when you left. the hole you left in her heart had been left to rot, filling with resentment. but as she witnessed you now, as heartbroken as she had been, the blame seemed to lift off of your shoulders.
“so you didn’t leave me.. just like that?” coral asked. it was like a stab to the chest that she ever thought you would do that to her. coral had once expressed her fear of abandonment to you, and to her it appeared that you had gone and done just that. the girl, who just a moment ago stood defensive and closed off, now looked especially vulnerable.
“i could never, coral. i loved you more than anything, still do. i never wanted to leave!” you expressed. coral dropped her stick, taking a small step closer to you.
“if… you mean that.. i missed you. it’s not the same back home without you,” she claimed, nodding her head slightly. you smiled sorrowfully. you had missed a lot in coral’s life, it felt like there was no possible way you could make up for lost time.
“i’ve missed you too. here, eat, i brought you some food,” you invited, sitting down to get comfortable. you wanted to spend as much time with her as you could. coral was close behind, accepting the arrangement of food you slid her through the bars. she examined it, deciding which to try first “remember when we used to have picnics? on the weekends. we’d sit on the dock and just talk,” you reminisced as coral smiled at the memory, already stuffing her face with food. you were glad she was finally getting some sustenance for the first time since she had arrived.
“the good ol’ days,” she joked, then proceeded to go silent for a few moments. “…what’s gonna happen when i have to go in there?” you didn’t think that through very well, too preoccupied with your reunion to remember who you had to thank for it- the capitol. maybe the source of all of your problems. you started to resent everything about the place you were forced called home. running away may have been the only option to get away from it all.
“i’ll get you out of here. then we’ll leave, together. i promise.” you finally had her back, and there was no way you would be letting her go now.

i’m not a violent dog → coral
coral!tbosas x reader
notes → in which you get to understand coral a little better. feminine intended reader.
warnings → descriptions of brandy’s dead body, other typical thg warnings. also me giving characters angst alert!!! not edited & uploaded via iphone (i didn’t know how to end this lol) AND ME NOT REMEMBERING HOW THE BOOK WENT LMAO
you barely managed to choke back a scream as brandy’s body dangled in front of you. heavensbee hall went silent, as the crane hauling her limp form, which was ridden with gunshots, paraded through the street. below brandy, the tributes could be vaguely made out, chained up. you couldn’t help but scan over them quickly, trying desperately to account for coral. spotting her, you sighed, though not of relief. perhaps it was shame that this is what your home had come to, exploiting the youth of it’s country. maybe it was even sympathy for coral, but seeing her in the state she was in brought anything but relief. coral was slouched over, making herself as small as possible, a stark contrast to the brave face she had put on at the zoo, when you had first met her. swallowing the vomit that threatened to rise, you decided to give her a visit later that night.
when the time came, you vowed to immediately make your way to the zoo, declaring that determining her safety was more important at the moment. and as soon as class ended, you were off. peacekeepers formed a wall in front of the entrance, forcing you to buy your way in. after arguing with the peacekeeper, who finally gave in when you had offered him payment, you were allowed visitation, but only under supervision and for a limited amount of time. you tried to be polite with the gruff older man, making small talk with him as he guided you to the monkey cage, but once you saw coral you were out of his sight.
“coral!” you cried. once she had noticed you she made her way to the front of the enclosure rather slowly. they still had the tributes chained up. “please tell me you’re not hurt.”
“not. but i can’t take much more of this.” she admitted. her gaze was fixed to the floor, and the refusal to look you in the eyes broke your heart.
“i.. i know. i’m trying my best to help but dr. gaul won’t give me the time of day.” you explained, eying her with worry. “i can’t believe they’ve chained you up like this, it’s inhumane.” while that was true, compared to the rest of the list of things the capitol was enforcing, this hardly scratched the surface.
“i wish they’d just kill me already.” coral muttered, voice gravelly.
“please, coral, don’t say that. you can win, i know you can.” you pleaded. her eyes bore resentment at your words.
“why do you believe that, huh?” she gripped the bars that separated the two of you forcefully, “because i’m big and scary? do i intimidate you?” her voice rose and her tone grew angry. the chains holding her hands together rattled as she moved. seeing as you almost flinched, she scoffed, slouching once more. “i don’t want to be the way i am, y’know,” coral mumbled, her lip quivering. “i’m.. i’m not violent. i don’t know why i fight. we’re all animals to them, that’s all we’ll ever be.” her words brought tears to your eyes.
the dehumanizing of the districts had gone on for far too long. there had been countless encounters with your classmates where the district people were referred to as “animals,” and the thought truly disgusted you. but up until this point you had merely been a pawn. despite the countless opportunities you were given to speak up to your classmates, you remained silent. even worse, you had ignorantly laughed along with them in the past. but what better way to wash away your guilt than play the savior in someone else’s story? even if the ulterior motive went unbeknownst to you, the privilege you had couldn’t be ignored by yourself. you could make a difference if you tried, if only you knew how. the best you could do for now was try to get your tribute out of the games alive.
“you’re not an animal, coral. you’re a girl. a strong one, and a really, really brave one. coral, please.” you begged her, you didn’t quite know what for, though. “the fight you have in you is nothing to be ashamed of, it’s how you survived. i’m sorry, coral. i’m so so sorry.” you broke down, allowing the tears to spill from your eyes. “i wish i could do more to help you. this is so… messed up,” you sobbed.
“back home, they tell us not to cry. there’s too much work to be done for tears. me and my siblings start work before dawn, and we work till night. if only they could see me now,” she laughed humorously. “and the things they’d say about you, gosh… you wouldn’t last a day there, princess. i can’t imagine you being able to haul crates of fish. let alone be able to catch one.” you pressed your forehead against the bars and let her words hang in the air. after a minute or so, her head rest against the bars as well, nearly touching yours. silence rang in the air as the two of you sat, contently.
“alright, girly, time’s up. you’re way too close anyway.” the peacekeeper approached you after a while, grabbing your arm and sweeping you away before you could object.
“coral!” she glanced up at you. “i’ll see you tomorrow.” coral took that as reason to get ahold of herself, suppress her vulnerability and impress the cameras tomorrow. besides, the cameras weren’t the only thing she wanted to impress. maybe, just maybe, if coral won the games she could have you too.

you had watched from afar as your brother, festus creed, tried interacting with his tribute. the scene was laughable, both parties having no desire to be there. but alas, festus was a sycophant who wanted to score points with dr. gaul, whereas coral was reaped and taken to the capitol against her will. you could almost feel him roll his eyes in surrender despite facing the other way and decided that this was your time to try and help him. besides, you would need the practice. if the mentor gig was successful, you would likely get chosen to be one next year, nepotism and all.
“look, i don’t want to be here any more than you do, so why don’t you just take the food-“ his voice gradually got more forceful, growing louder before you decided to intervene.
“may i?” you popped up next to festus, causing him to almost jump out of his skin. coral laughed and you turned to face her. “hi there, coral. y/n creed, his little sister. the superior sibling, might i add.” you joked, sticking your hand out to her, not quite through the bars of the enclosure, but close enough for her to accept. she eyed you up and down, her arms crossed, but nevertheless she took your hand, giving it a firm shake. her hand was dirt ridden and covered in callouses, and the feeling of her hand engulfing yours send a jolt through your body. “i really think you should eat. going into the arena without food isn’t the best idea. and look, i know festus is incredibly annoying-“
“hey!” festus objected, crossing his arms. you side eyed him, then continued.
“but you should listen to him. he knows what he’s doing, for the most part, at least. we’re here to help you win, coral. and, if i may, the odds might just be in your favor here. if we didn’t think you could win, we wouldn’t be here trying to coerce you into taking our food.” while it was somewhat a stretch, she seemed convinced.
“well what’d you bring me, sweet thing?” you couldn’t contain the expression of delightful shock that spread throughout your face as you heard her speak for the first time, as well as use a rather flirtatious nickname. you stuttered for a moment but quickly shook out of it as you heard her amused chuckle.
“right, um- let’s see here…” you began. festus swung the bag over his shoulder, unzipping it and allowing coral to look over the items once more. he was extremely agitated that coral would listen to you but refused to give him the time of day. festus, being the bum that he was, packed rather lightly. the food he made was distasteful, including a not-so-grilled cheese, an old banana, and the leftover omelette the academy had served for breakfast. “jeez… alright, festus. a little hard to work with.” he rolled his eyes once again. “well, um. sorry about that, coral. don’t worry, i’ll make sure you get something digestible tomorrow.” at this point, your dear brother was glaring daggers at you.
by the time you left the zoo, your brother in tow, you had left a lasting impression on coral. she was amused by your wit and entranced by your good looks, as well as your charm.
the next time you interacted with coral was the day after arachne’s funeral. festus had told you all about how the interview went with coral, how he barely filled out half of the page because she refused to talk to him. the extent of his knowledge about coral was her name, her age, and her job. you decided to check up on your girl again, giving her a visit at the zoo.
“your brother’s an idiot, y’know.” she remarked, letting you know how the interview went.
“i can’t believe you just realized that!” you laughed in agreement with her.
“so what inspired you to pay me a visit, princess?” coral queried, leaning against the bars that separated the two of you.
“grilled grouper sandwiches. thought the fish might remind you of home. handmade!” you replied, as if you were advertising the food to her. she nodded, smiling.
“well thank you for thinking of me, sweetheart.” you smiled back, handing her the food. she accepted, of course, but not without making sure she grazed your hand first. immediately, your breath hitched. gosh, you were putty in the hands of a district girl. your family would freak if they even saw you this close to her. but you couldn’t get her out of your head. you looked up at her, and she was staring down at you, completely unashamed about her method of flirtation. she held a rather smug look on her face regarding the effect her touch had on you.
“you holding up okay in here?” you asked her, moving the focus away from your embarrassing reaction.
“better than ever.” she replied, sarcastically joyful. mentally, you pinched yourself for the dumb question. she was locked in a cage about to fight for her life, of course she wasn’t okay. but coral took the question lightly, bidding you goodnight as she strode away calmly.
it was now the last time you would see coral before the games. you had snuck into the zoo late at night, hoping to see her before she was taken away to the arena. “night before the games… how’re you feeling?” you fidgeted anxiously with the hem of your skirt as you posed the question.
“confident.” was her short, vague reply.
“that much?” your face contorted in concern at her answer. she reached her hand through the bars, grabbing yours and holding it firmly. it was the first time that contact between the two of you lasted more than a few seconds.
“don’t psych me out, princess. you were the one who said you thought i could win anyway.” coral laughed. “but yea, i got this in the bag. don’t you worry your pretty little head about me, darling. in a few days, you’re all mine, i’ll make sure of it.” coral left you with a wink, squeezing your hand before promptly walking away to her claimed rock, mizzen already dozing off on top of it. you sighed, leaving the zoo while the girl consumed your thoughts. she always had you on edge, leaving wanting more. and hopefully, you’d get more.

flicker in the dark → coral
coral!tbosas x reader
notes → in which you meet the tribute you will be mentoring, and she turns out to be something you never would’ve expected. feminine intended reader though i do not know if pronouns are brought up.
warnings → y’all, she is so over the top ooc… (i molded her character after vi from arcane lol 🙈) not edited & uploaded via iphone!! i also haven’t written in months lol
trailing behind your fellow mentor and dear friend, lysistrata vickers, you couldn’t help but grow anxious of the impending meeting with the tribute you had been assigned. nearing the zoo where the tributes were being kept in this year, your heart rate sped up. the practice of mentoring a tribute was something that had never been done before, so nerves were on edge. and on top of that, the thought of the twenty-four district children being kept on display in a monkey house was enough to make you shiver with disgust. though, it was not much better than the horse stables they had been kept in prior to this year. if you were lucky, your tribute would be willing to cooperate with you like coriolanus’ girl, lucy gray, had. thoughts swamped your brain as lyssie dragged you to the front of the cage, about to part ways with you to find her respective tribute, the hulking district twelve boy.
“y/n, you have nothing to lose here. we’re simply here to help them get through this as easily and… painlessly as possible,” she said, muttering the last phrase with underlying bitterness. both lysistrata and yourself were not fans of the hunger games. the prospect of dehumanizing and stripping the rights, as well as dignity, away from children your own age was safe to say, unappealing. with the war long over, shouldn’t the killing have ended by now too?
“i know, lyssie, i just…” you paused, averting your gaze, “don’t know if i’ll be able to face her knowing what she’s about to go through. to think she’s our age, too… it’s… i don’t know how i can even help her.” you couldn’t find the words to accurately form your thought, but lysistrata understood.
“i get it, i do. just show her what you brought her.” lysistrata patted you on the back and wandered towards the side of the enclosure that her tribute resided in. it didn’t take long to spot your tribute, who’s name you learned to be coral. her fiery red hair could be pinpointed from a mile away.
you sighed, slowly walking up to the metal bars of the enclosure. “coral?” you tried, catching the attention of some tributes sitting closer to the bars, but not coral. pausing, you pursed your lips and tried again, calling out for her louder. this got the attention of her district partner, mizzen, who nudged coral. she looked up at mizzen and he nodded towards you. unsure of what exactly to do as they both glared at you, you waved sheepishly. coral gave a look to mizzen, then stood, striding over to where you were standing.
as she reached the bars, you had to shift your gaze upwards to look her in the eye. “and who might you be, doll face?” she asked, her tone condescending as she eyed you up and down.
“hi, i’m y/n, i’ll be your mentor for the games.” you stuck your hand through the bars to her and attempted to introduce yourself, but realized that the hand you had offered was holding the bag of items that you had brought for her. you quickly placed it down for a second to properly shake her hand, only for her to ignore the gesture and continue to stare expectantly.
“mendor, huh? so rainbow girl was right after all.” you nodded in agreement, assuming she was referring to lucy gray. “so what are you gonna do for me?” you paused, thinking of the best way to put it.
“i’m going to try my best to help you win. and take care of you, of course.” the look she gave you made you think you had three heads, and you shrunk under her gaze.
“i’m sorry, sweetheart, but how are you going to help me?” she almost laughed.
“well, my job as a mentor is to introduce you to the public, to make you more appealing so that people will want to watch the games.” you explained.
“appealing, huh. am i not already?” coral asked mockingly, criticizing your choice of words. she moved forward to grip to bars and stooped down boldly to be eye to eye with you. you stuttered, quickly looking away in embarrassment.
“i mean- yes- but that wasn’t what i meant, really!” you quickly tried, but she simply laughed at you. regaining her posture, she glanced at the bag you had set on the floor.
“and what’s this?” she queried, urging you to pick it up and show her.
“i brought you some food!” you offered, “you should really eat if you want to make it into the arena with enough strength to fight.” you tried, which was a dumb, obvious statement, but it seemed like a safe bet.
“i appreciate the sentiment, sweetheart. but you don’t know what i need and don’t need.” despite the nickname, her tone was brimmed with hostility. you didn’t blame her for refusing the food, your very essence reeked of privilege, and you could tell she wasn’t one to accept pity favors. the stark contrast of your ironed uniform and manicured nails next to her unwashed attire and nails covered in dirt was off putting. you could not imagine how she felt being here, being forced to play a losing game. and on top of that, the ones who had put her in this position claimed to want to help her. the war was hard for everybody, but your family had managed to pick itself back up off of it’s feet. on the other hand, families in the district had to pay the price for lives they did not take.
“i’m just trying to help, coral, really. these games are- they’re horrible. if i had a choice i wouldn’t participate. but i don’t. so the least i could do is help you get through them.” you spilled your opinion to her in hopes that she would accept the sustenance. picking the bag up off of the ground, you unzipped it, allowing her to take a look at the food you had brought.
stuffed full of homemade chicken and cheese sandwiches, as well as some other miscellaneous foods sitting closer to the bottom, it was evident you had spent time trying to organize food for her to have. she glanced at the bag, then whipped her head around towards mizzen, calling him towards her. he approached and she showed him the arrangement of foods. you saw his eyes light up and you couldn’t help but feel helpful, as small a gesture as it was.
“i don’t know if they’ve fed you or not, but…” you trailed off, allowing them to take a few of the sandwiches and an abundance of fruit, as well as a hardboiled egg or two. peering around at the rest of the tributes, some of which had been staring at the bag of food, you realized that if you were to give them the whole contents of the bag now, others would try to steal some. and while that was not necessarily a bad thing, considering your guilt for them in this situation, you had made these strictly for coral, and mizzen was just a part of the package. “coral, maybe you should eat these now. i don’t think it’s the greatest idea to hand over all of the food right now.” you suggested. she quickly realized what you meant and plopped down to the floor, egg in mouth and mizzen close behind. as you looked down at her sitting criss-cross in shock, she gestured for you to take a seat as well. it was like a picnic of some sorts. the odd, repulsive sort of one, but a picnic nonetheless.
the pair made no effort to make conversation as they chowed down their food, and you couldn’t blame them. you twiddled your thumbs in silence for a solid twelve minutes before anyone had spoken up. scoping out the rest of the tributes, you realized that coral was a very strong contender compared to some of the other girls. the thought that the odds may be in her favor brought a smile to your face. “thanks, cupcake.” coral was already on her feet before you could even process the statement. you stood, dusting the dirt off of your uniform before smiling at coral.
“it’s what i’m here for. i’ll try to check in as much as i can. there’s some events that the gamemakers are planning, too. they want to hold one on one mentor-tribute interviews, a tour of the arena, as well as an additional interview that will be aired to panem.” you informed her and mizzen, who made sure to stand close by.
“so this won’t be the last i see of you?” she asked.
“most definitely not.” you confirmed, nodding.
“good.” she winked, turning away with mizzen in tow. from the interaction, she proved to be quite the enigma. despite her circumstances, she still had a confident, collected, and enticing aura about her, leaving you in awe, if not more.

better in the dark → coral
coral!tbosas x reader
a/n → i have the feeling that my writing has been getting progressively worse (it’s getting short and sloppy + my grammar is slipping) because i’ve been trying to write so much all at once lol so i maybe just maybe will take a short break before posting anything else
notes → in which you savor some of the last moments you will have with coral before the games, even though you can hardly see her. feminine intended reader
warnings → possibly the WORST thing i’ve written (but i still want you to read it lol), sorry guys, inspo is low at the moment. very very ooc coral in my opinion. not edited & uploaded via iphone
coral’s hands brushed yours as she reached them through the bars. you allowed her to grab onto them, shivering at her icy touch. even though it was the middle of a rather hot summer, nights still grew chilly.
“we’ll meet again tomorrow morning to have a final goodbye.“ you informed her in a whine, she hummed in response. for some reason, saying it out loud hurt. but the ache in your heart seemed to waver as coral reached a hand up to cup your face, causing you to look her in the eyes for the first time tonight. you were afraid that if you made eye contact with her you wouldn’t be able to let her go, but it was too late now. mentally, you cursed yourself for how fast you got attached to people. in the two weeks that coral had been in the capitol, you were sure you had fallen in love with her. and maybe you had been looking at her through rose colored glasses, but even then, rose colored glasses had no effect in the dark night. deep down you knew you had fallen for her.
no matter how much time you spent preparing her, there was no guarantee that she would win the games. out of the other girls, sure, she was one of the strongest. but the guys were what you worried about. reaper and tanner posed a huge threat to the girl, but coral assured you that she could handle it. not to mention jessup, who was easily the biggest and strongest tribute of them all. your mind was working overtime as you brainstormed all of the different ways she could win, and the possibilities of her being killed. you were so focused that you hadn’t realized you were biting your lip, almost to the point of drawing blood. it wasn’t until coral began gliding her thumb over your knuckles that you were taken out of your trance.
“what’s wrong?” she asked you, mildly concerned.
“just… thinking about what could happen out there.” you admitted, eyes softening.
“i told you already, baby, don’t you worry about me. i’ve got it covered.” she smiled reassuringly at you, though you could hardly tell because of how dimly lit it had become now. it was almost like the moon was hiding from you. you felt as if she was far too calm for someone in her situation, it irked you. while you had been beyond anxious all day on behalf of coral, here she was, all mellow in the face of death. maybe it was just a facade on coral’s part, but you felt helpless at the fact that you didn’t know how to properly help her.
“but coral, i’m your mentor!” you reminded her, as well as yourself. bringing up your status reminded you that falling in love with a district tribute would be more than looked down upon in your society. “it’s my job to worry about you-“ you stated, but were cut off as she pulled you closer to her, pressing her lips to yours. you melted into her touch, unable to stop yourself from leaning in closer. but sadly, the kiss seemed to end as soon as it started.
“that shut you up,” she teased, smirking.
“you can’t just… you can’t just do that!” you complained in a huff, pouting.
“you won’t allow a dead woman one last kiss? you monster!” coral joked, chuckling silently.
“don’t say that either, coral. you’re not going to die.” it seemed more like a bitter attempt to convince yourself rather than coral. besides, you were supposed to be the cynical one here, not her. but then again, she had every right to feel that way. when twenty-four go in and only one comes out, it was easy to feel hopeless. who were you to dictate how she felt? you felt like a terrible, entitled person, and maybe you were. but coral seemed to look past that. you avoided her eyes once more, looking down at your shoes instead in guilt.
“i’m just joking, pretty girl.” she remarked, but her tone seemed more solemn now. your eyes wandered back to hers. silence hung in the air as a few moments passed.
“is it bad that i might love you?” the question slipped from your mouth in a single breath.
“yes,” was her grim reply. it broke your heart to hear, even if she was probably right. but that didn’t stop her from pulling you close once more, pressing her lips against yours passionately. thank goodness for the dark. if she had seen you in this moment with your nose runny, puffy, red eyes from crying so much, and cheeks flushed, you were sure you would die of embarrassment. but all your emotions seemed to flutter away when she was this close to you now. when her lips were on yours, nothing in the past, present, or future mattered, it was just coral and you.

slipping through my fingers → coral
coral!tbosas x reader
a/n → so much for a break LMAO
notes → in which you grieve over the loss of your soulmate. gender neutral reader (not sure if pronouns came up, although they might’ve. if they did, then feminine intended reader)
warnings → canon character deaths, description of coral’s body after death, angsty kind of. not edited & uploaded via iphone
coral was an angry girl, always had been. angry at the treatment of the districts after the rebellion, angry at the capital, angry at the universe for allowing it all to happen. her anger only intensified when she had been reaped to participate in the hunger games. she had been so close to escaping the system, but life had never been kind to her, why would anything be different now?
despite her aggressive demeanor, she was a protector at heart. with mizzen as her district partner, you knew she never stood a chance. coral would die for the boy if she had to. if it had came down to mizzen and coral, you were sure she’d get herself killed one way or another so he could survive. all of her anger had been focused into formulating a plan. not to save herself, but to save mizzen. coral really did try her best to allow mizzen to win, tricking the boy from ten into helping them take out other tributes, then killing him. unfortunately, her demise came from the snakes that the gamemakers released into the arena; a rather horrid way to die when you realize that coral had had her fair share of dealing with snakes during her work on the harbor. it was truly unfair to her, it wasn’t her fault that some snobby capitol kid had died, why should she have to pay the price? but alas, it was all apart of the capital’s plan to reduce the districts to mere laborers. that’s really what the hunger games were for; to strip away any power or dignity the districts had left after the war.
when they shipped coral and mizzen’s bodies back to district four, you couldn’t bare to look at her. standing amidst the families of the pair, you were surrounded by the anguished cries of their loved ones. it was enough to bring you to tears. coral’s mother invited you to attend her burial, and swore to give you some of her possessions when they went through her room. but for now, it was too overwhelming for her parents to step in there.
it was tragic, really, how you and coral had only been official since a few months prior to the reaping ceremony. only a few months worth of shamelessly showing her off and holding her hand as the two of you wandered town. of course, you had been “friends“ prior to your relationship, but you had to keep the two of you a secret, meeting only in the late hours of the night, when the sun had not yet risen. she had finally posed the question to you in late april, asking you if you wanted to make it official. you recalled grinning, smashing your lips against hers, extremely giddy.
“so that’s a yes?” she had teased, tucking a stray stand of hair behind your ear.
“yes, you big idiot!” you laughed, as you tackled her to the floor, holding her close.
coral’s burial took place on the twenty-sixth of july, two days after her snake-bite ridden body had arrived in district four. her father’s desperate attempt to hold it together was unsuccessful, and in all the years you knew the uptight, reserved older man, he was sobbing with a fervor you hadn’t seen in anyone before. you released a shaky breath you didn’t realize you had been holding as dirt began to cover the dingy, wooden coffin the capital had sent her back in. grief had you by the throat, silencing your sobs as they gargled in the back of your throat. you wanted to be strong, especially in front of her parents and sibling. if her death hurt you to this extreme, you couldn’t imagine how devastated her family was. memories of her flooded into your brain, all the aspects and cherished times; how sweet she had been behind closed doors, the scars that littered her body, which she had earned from her work, how soft her wild red hair was when you tangled your fingers in it, the botched stick and poke on her wrist you gave her that she absolutely adored.
it seemed like everywhere you went, a little piece of coral could be found. from the shoreline, where you watched as she dived into the shallow water, fishing out trinkets for you, to the alleyway behind your work, where she had you playfully pinned up against the cold brick, whispering sweet nothings into your ear. your home, too, held many memories of her. the accessories she found while diving cluttered your dresser, a photograph of the two of you taken on her birthday was pinned above your bed, and the promise ring she gifted you was tucked away somewhere safe. occasionally, you dug it out from beneath your bed, pressing the icy metal against your chest as you mourned. your parents’ attempts to comfort you were to no avail, coral was the only one who knew how to calm you down. she knew you like she knew the back of her hand. the two of you had been hopelessly devoted to each other, and you were certain that she was your soulmate. you didn’t know if anyone could replace her, and you knew for sure no one in district four could. she was much too was special, incomparable. maybe you just had to cope with that fact, and move on with your life, her promise ring forever adorning your finger. in another life, the two of you got to have your happy ending. you could only imagine what it would be like to grow old with coral, to see her fully develop into the strong woman she was bound to become.
the capital knew her solely as a vicious killer, cold to the core, but she was so much more to you. of course, the capital always did its best to dehumanize the district people, painting them as rabid beasts, but your coral was far from that. she yearned for love, although she rarely admitted it, she cared for her family more than anything, she was ambitious, determined, dependable, the list was endless. you just wished people got to see the humane side of her before her untimely death.
