For Max, work had been a mercy. Pride month was ‘The Old Salt Bar’s’ busiest time of year (only rivalled by halloween). They’d been disconnected from their day job of late, ghosting through their shifts while their mind battled thoughts of their mother and now of a certain tattooed individual. But now they could distract themself with pride and ensuring that things at o.s.b ran like a well oiled machine. 

(transcript below)

(OVERLAPPING VOICES): Hi, hey, hiya! Hi gorg! How are you?

(CORA): …Do you wanna ring Aish to see where they are?

(MAX): [Weary] Nah. Let’s just start, I’ll deal with them later.

(CORA): Alright…Well thank you to everyone for getting here early. We just wanted to go over a few things with you for this week.

(MAX): We’ve got a drag show, two dj nights and the queer black book club has a coffee morning planned with us as well.

(CORA): The board game social has been pushed to next week ‘cause the organiser isn’t well, so Sim and Taz you don’t have to come in early that day.

(SIM/TAZ): Calm. / Thank fuck! …Sorry, but them lot creep me out.

(MAX): …Anyways! I wanted to highlight that with the drag show, like last year it’s gonna be an all hands on deck situation. We’ll have security again but we won’t be selling tickets on the door like last time, ‘cause that was shambolic.

(JORDAN): Real! 

(CORA): Everyone needs to be on job, I don’t want anyone being left on their own for no reason…

(TAZ): @ me next time?

(CORA): I’m just sayin’! maybe don’t flirt too much with the customers this year.

(TAZ): I can’t help it if people want me Cor. I’ve got a natural charm.

[The door opens, conversation pauses. Aish sits down silently.]

(MAX): …I also encourage everyone to dress up that night as well! We’ll have a photographer and I wanna put some pics on the website and our instagram.

(JORDAN): Wait, are we still doing the staff photo today? Cos I can’t let this fit go unseen.

(AISH): [Quietly] Shit.

(MAX): We are! Sim brought his tripod.

(JORDAN): God bless.

(CORA): Well! I think that pretty much covers everything. Does anyone have any questions?...No? Okay let’s go outside and do the staff picture then. I don’t wanna lose the light.

[Everyone except Aish and Max gets up to leave. Cora and Jordan hang back. It’s clear a conversation is brewing]

(CORA): Do you need me or Jord to stick around?

(MAX): You’re fine babe, this won’t take long.

Remus showed up at the Pettigrew’s once again, a fairly common guest for the two women.

This time, however, he seemed lighter. Happier, but strangely nervous.

He sat on their sofa, slowly sipping the tea that Cora had placed in his hands moments ago.

After the cup was half gone and the women had patiently been staring at him for a good five minutes, Remus looked up and spoke.

"Sirius is innocent."

"What?" Lydia frowned, "What do you mean?"

"He was framed. By um- by Peter. Peter is alive but he was the real spy and framed Sirius."

"My son is dead."

Remus shook his head.

Cora leaned forwards, "If Sirius is innocent, shouldn't they be saying that in the news?" She nodded towards the television, "I don't know about your wizard news, but ours is still saying he's a dangerous criminal to watch out for."

Remus nodded, "Yes, about that. We don't have any proof. About Peter being alive, because he ran away. So, Sirius is still in hiding and we can't really do anything to help at the moment."

Lydia glared at him, "You're telling me my son is alive but he's a murderer and yet you have no proof?"

Remus slowly nodded, "Yes?"

"Get out."

Remus immediately stood up.

"Lydia-" Cora laid a hand on her wife's shoulder.

"No", Lydia continued to glare at Remus, "My son wouldn't hurt anyone. He died. He was a good person and he died. Maybe- maybe Sirius is innocent, okay? Yes, Sirius is innocent, he was such a nice kid. But that doesn't give either of you a right to make up lies about my son. Especially when he isn't- when he can't even defend himself... I'd like you to leave now."

Cora stood up with him, "Come on" she gestured to the door as Lydia buried her face in her hands.

She opened the door for Remus but he lingered in the doorway.

"Have you had any rats recently?"

Cora quirked a brow but shook her head, "Not for a long time."

Remus hummed, "I thought he'd come here."

Cora glanced behind her, making sure Lydia couldn't hear, before turning back to Remus, "Not to say I believe you that Peter is alive, and I know I only knew him for a few years, but he never really relied on me or Lyd when he needed some help or guidance. He always went to that James boy."

Remus fiddled with the handle of his suitcase, "Right. Well that's not really possible."

Cora nodded, glancing at Remus and fully taking in the look of him with a frown, "How is the new job going?"

Remus almost laughed, "Didn't really work out... I'm not too sure what to do now."

"Do you need some money?"

Remus instantly shook his head, "I couldn't accept that."

"Please", Cora huffed, taking out her wallet, "If Peter did do all that you claim, then it's the least we can do."

She held out five £10 notes, the entirety of her wallet other than a few pennies.

Remus hesitantly took it, "I'll send it to Sirius. Although I'm not quite sure how to get ahold of him, he flew off on a hippogriff."

Cora blinked in confusion, "Right, sure. Well keep it for yourself then, pay your bills, get some food for you and your father."

"Thank you."

just after we’ve seen kuma’s memory of watching luffy punching charlos and believing that he’s the one who will bring transformation to the sea, in a way that reminds him of nika, just after we’ve seen him say he’s leaving behind the mark of his existence in bonney and luffy when we also know for a fact he liberated and helped so many people oppressed by the WG…i’m so glad we got this and i’m so glad he got this.

it is so important to me that it’s not about luffy being nika (he’s not) bc the whole point is that luffy is free, he does what he wants — and by extension nika doesn’t belong to the one person who has the devil fruit, nika belongs to everyone who embodies the spirit of liberation. like bonney says in reference to her dad, real heroes do exist (nika *parallel*) and real gods do exist (nika *parallel*).

Do you have any advice for self-promotion for people who feel anxious about promoting themselves? Sometimes I fear I sound too "arrogant" or "overconfident" when I'm trying to promote. I don't want to come across as self-important, but I want to hype myself up to an extent. Thank you!

I think it comes down to identifying what "arrogance" and "overconfidence" actually are and how they would actually look in this situation. Being arrogant about promoting your fic would be:

Going on about how your work is inherently amazing or that you're objectively talented. Or that writing fic is easy and implying that anyone who struggles with it has something wrong with them.

Putting down other writers, fics, tropes, or ships to try and make yourself and your work look better.

Declaring anyone who hates your work a "hater" who is "jealous" or has "bad taste."

Being blind to your own flaws.

Promoting your work on other people's work without any kind of prompting, or only using certain communities (such as discord servers) as a place to promote your work instead of interact.

And plot twist! Putting down your own work or lampshading all the problems is a type of arrogance as well, because you're already assuming the reader will hate what you've done. The reality is that if they do like your work, those kinds of comments from the author will make the reader feel stupid for liking it anyway.

Basically, arrogance is trying to tell other people how they should feel about your work. That's what puts a bad taste in people's mouth.

The following is not being arrogant about your own fic:

Sharing snippets of your work so people have the opportunity to decide for themselves if it interests them and would be worth checking out.

Saying how proud you are of your work, or how hard you've worked on it to get it to where it is. There's nothing wrong with showing pride in what you do, and often when people see how much work has gone into something, they get even more interested in it.

Creating memes, graphics, artworks, or shitposts about your own fics. Be your own fandom! I promise it's like the most normal thing ever.

Recommending your own fic to someone when they express a desire to read something like whatever you already happen to have written.

Pointing out particular elements of your own work that you enjoy. People will post about how they write their dream fics all the time.

Providing behind-the-scenes commentary on what you've written or pointing out particular moments from your story you love. E.g. "Omg I just wrote this super fluffy scene and it's sooooooo cute! I can't wait for you to read it and I hope you all squee~!"

Pitching your fic. This is when you try to appeal to your "target audience". E.g. "Are you looking for a spicy enemies-to-lovers slowburn about [Ship Name]? Then boy howdy have I got the fic for you!" Basically, you're describing the premise of your story and elements people might be interested in and then throwing it out there.

The difference here is that you aren't telling other people how they should feel about your work. You can say you're aiming to evoke a certain feeling, but ultimately, you aren't making it sound there's an objectively correct way to go about it.

In conclusion, as long as you aren't trying to tell people how to think or feel about your fic (or promote it in inappropriate situations), you're never going to come across as arrogant or overconfident about your work. If anyone does think that, it's worth asking yourself if that's a "them" problem first and foremost, or even get a second opinion from someone you trust.

(forgot to post this a day ago bc i fell asleep but whatever-) y'all i have spent like the last hour waiting for class to end and doing nothing while my (mostly male) classmates cause havoc and i didn't even notice the whole time what i drew on the top of my fingers- (cw..! hand reveal, mainly cause i wanna show y'all what is on ny hands bc I am too tried to draw it instead- besides I'm terrible when it comes to hands)

i had law hands except only my left hand says D E A T H while my right hand is written with letters that spell; H E A R T , and it kinda reminds me of the time when i was getting into one piece and was just finding out about law and i thought one of law's hands says "heart" instead of both hands being tatted with the word "death"
