Another reason I really love Watcher World is that the idea of being actively perceived and judged is baked into the character’s wants and Blinky knows exactly how to draw that out.

Since amusement parks have been invented basically (and with vacations in general) there’s always that expectation to make memories, to take pictures, to fit that quota of a happy occasion. Of course Blinky sets up an amusement park to torture mortals! It’s an active feeding ground for milking human drama and that pressure to meet that societal norm!

Everyone else is having fun. Look at them. Why aren’t you?

That kind of mentality

Bill wants Alice to like him and have a connection with her, while still blind to seeing her for who she truly is - the carnival barker scene lays Bill’s vulnerabilities bare in front of a crowd of people.

Everything Bill is self conscious about and is working to actively change is being poked and prodded at. He’s called “weak” and “pathetic”, further emasculating him.

And when Bill does what Blinky wants? He validates him. He calls him a strong man. He gives him love he hasn’t gotten from his daughter or ex wife in so long. He’s feeding right into his ego.

And with Alice she’s prime for Blinky cause he’s basically like social media on steroids - teenagers are already super self conscious of themselves and are starting to try and craft that image of who they want to be in the world, and social media has only heightened that.

Alice is so worried about being there for Deb and missing out on her chance with her, so she (paraphrasing here) even says she HAS to like and look at these posts or Deb thinks she won’t care. She is so scared of people’s perceptions of her and feels out of her depth that it’s prime for Blinky’s influence to come in and point all that blame at her dad.

Cause yeah the situation isn’t great between them already and it’s a nuanced issue the father and daughter need to communicate out but why would you need to do that? You know that the others are thinking about YOU and all the mistakes you’ve made.

No. All the mistakes THEY made.

Until paranoia and ego invade a person’s brain until all that’s left is a puppet ready to be influenced.

There’s this pretty big disparity I’ve noticed between how nolan (omniman) is interpreted in mainstream stuff vs his like actual character in both show/comic

Fanon nolan interpretation:

-doesn’t feel remorse or empathy

-oh he’s soooo cool he’s so swag and smooth talking

-genuinely doesn’t care for his son esp not his wife

-never cared for the guardians

-you don’t get it he’s actually right guys!! Genocide good!

-this also ties in with just reducing mark to the “guy who gets beat up nonstop” and debbie to “the pet”

-they definitely think this version of nolan abides by human bigotry shit like sexism

Canon nolan (according to show and comic):

-oblivious to A LOT of social cues and overall very socially inept (very blunt and dry tone of voice so he always sounds kinda mad even if he isn’t)

-actually cares about his family and friends but has trouble expressing it verbally, more show than tell

-cared ab the guardians and they were his friends but he repressed the hell out of what he did bc of guilt (and he’s dumb)

-says things like “curses” and “moon it up”

-monologues a bunch like holy shit

-very physically affectionate with the people he’s v close too (he also smiles guys!)

-makes jokes without trying (kinda hard to catch bc of the deadpan tone at times)

-would realistically be confused by earth’s own forms of bigotry and shit

-bookworm and wrote and documented things even before becoming a writer on earth!

-feels extreme remorse and guilt for his past actions but again has trouble showing it

Idea I came up with yesterday but

I love the idea of earthspark Ratchet (and possibly drift / deadlock with him) entering the picture and has absolute beef with Megatron.

Optimus might be working well with him and considers them close again, Megs is close with a human family and the terrans as well as having helped end the war. But I think they should hate each other because it would be either funny or angsty.

Extra points if Drift is actually on good terms with Megs again, it's just Ratchet v Megatron.

Slapping this list of... things.. that I've had for Stratos and Betrayus here on The Tumblr™ (Nothing is in order and uhhh some of this is not new and subject to change)

Stratos:

has bouts of insomnia (projecting? yes.)

has night terrors (they died down somewhat years after the loss of Betrayus)

partook in boxing to help pay for Betrayus's top surgery (Stratos was like, 18 - mid 20s, and Betrayus is a trans man lets freakingg goooo)

gets really into baking and gets really good at it

used to be a part of a jock clique in highschool

feels extreme guilt over the loss of his younger brother

does not like traveling or exploring (ironic, right?)

is only the president to protect his brother (Pacopolis was desperate during one of the last ghost wars and lost their former president, it probably wouldn't work like this but whatever)

doesn't like living in the roundhouse so he willingly drives 2 - 3 hours back to his actual house (Jesus Christ Stratos)

met Sir C during one of his final boxing matches (so Stratos was like, 24… 25 maybe??)

admires Betrayus for the hard work he does (not even close to canon but w/e this is my house now)

totally thinks for like, a good long while that Betrayus hates his guts

Betrayus (previously alive):

was forced to do many school activities, most of which he did not want to do

excelled throughout middle school and highschool

loves food (has eyes bigger than his stomach #same)

has been all over Pac world (he was in the military after all)

met Zac and Sunny while he was stationed (somewhere)

took part in the last war between ghosts and Pac Worlders (?)

the more he tagged along with Zac and Sunny the more he learned about the Nether Realm (whenever they ventured in there of course)

likes to write (wrote Mei letters while he was out doing military thingz™️ :))

has/had journals that were written during has years as a commander

grew more cold towards people growing up (probably due to the loss of his father)

grew less cold after slowly allowing himself to be more vulnerable (you can thank Mei for that)

used to have long hair that Rotunda would put into her signature-traitor-family-hairstyle©️

got called 'sir' at some point when he was little and had short hair (he realized he wanted to be a boy)

resents Stratos because he was often given everything while he had to work for what he wanted

grew distant from his brother and his mother (but never hated them)

is a really good liar (the only two who can tell when he is lying is Mei and Stratos)

gains a somewhat stone-cold expression just like his mother

Betrayus (ghost):

was banished to the Nether Realm because he was the suspected reason as to why so many people went missing

even ghosts that guard the entrance to the Nether Realm don't allow Betrayus to leave (there's a treaty-thing going on between both worlds)

wears gloves to not burn things (also has several gloves for several occasions)

he was given the role of being the new Lord of Fire

all of the Ghost Lords were iffy about Betrayus taking up Igneous's mantel (except for Kai and Una)

made himself look the way that he is now (originally he looked more like a normal ghost, but changed after becoming the new Lord)

ends up becoming super grouchy and cruel, by this time Pac is about to attend Maze High

eventually becomes friends with the ghost gang (the ghost gang also have a "hey wait- you're the reason we're down here!" moment)

has some heart-to-heart conversations with Butler from time to time

becomes absolutely livid when he hears that Stratos is now the President

has not seen Elli since she was a newborn

(this one is a brand new thought) he 'plays his part' when he notices how Pacopolis sees him I.E. he's like "you see me as the bad guy? Fine. I'll be the bad guy."

probably ended up a fire ghost because of his passion to fight for what he thinks is right (he's loud and unapologetic for it)

why do this?

i just really like spore and making creatures in spore. it helps me practice my creature creation abilities.

can you make my oc in spore?

as of right now i do not take requests. i generally find characters and creatures i want to make by them appearing on my dashboard. refer to the Request Beast.

what is in your icon?

captain thunderhide, my main spore space stage captain.

what is peeling?

peeling is when i remove all detail parts from a creature and show the bare sculpt underneath - anything that is not eyes, mouth, hands, feet, or limbs will be removed. it is a tradition around these parts

what are "original spores"?

original spores are spore creations that aren't based on existing media - ocs, copyrighted characters, or otherwise. usually, they're just making things to make them in spore, or are based on simple prompts such as "a plate of spaghetti" or "a penis".

do you use mods?

i exclusively play this game with mods.

can i download the creatures you make?

only if the original creator of the design is okay with it and requests a png. please note that in order to successfully download the creatures, you will need to download every mod used to create them.

i will not always be able to say what mods i use to make something, so it's a gamble if you don't have all of the ones i use.

how do i mod spore/do advanced creature creation like you?

darkedgetv's FAQ is a very good resource to begin. i started there, and it's where i recommend you to start if you're interested in spore modding. it also contains many other mods i have not listed under the cut.

as much as i disagree with the process of using a discord server to contain vital information and resources, the davoonline spore modding community discord is also a good source of resources and mods that even i do not use.

what editor mods do you use?

a lot, so they'll be under the cut.

not mods, but highly recommended for enhanced playing experience

4GB patch - Tutorial - patches spore [and other 32bit programs] to be able to use 4gb of RAM. recommended if playing a highly modded copy, and makes the game more stable.

Reshade & ReSpore - post-processing injector & shader that alters the appearance of spore, giving it more detailed shading and vibrant colors. i use this for gameplay and screenshots. runs on GPU power, so excellent if you have a strong graphics card

HD graphics fix - this doesn't actually seem to work for my copy, but it alters the textures of base spore to be more high-quality.

mods that are absolute must-haves

these mods are ones that i use in almost every creation, and add a lot of QoL to the editors. if i forget a mod in a creature png i post, it will be one of these.

Dark injection - THE spore mod. it's likely a lot of other mods you'll download will mesh well with dark injection. you can turn off whatever you don't want to use through the installer.

Universal Property Enhancer - a library mod that many other mods require

The Smoother - a useful tool for building muscles and smoothing out your creatures' bodies

Enhanced Color Picker - a requirement for super detailed creations, enables hexcode color picking and color wheel selection beyond normal limits of spore

[UPE] Infinite Part Scaling - allows scaling of parts near-infinitely, beyond the limits of the original game

Project Skyncraft - adds new creature skinpaints

Unshackled - adds nodes and limbs for creating custom wings, heads, hands, etc. a little bit unstable, i mostly use this for wings.

Spore Stacker - allows stacking of any part

Subtle Rotations - reduces part rotation snapping

Advanced CE - adds building editor manipulators to the creature editor

Every Part Costs Nothing - self explanatory

Rotate Anything - lets you rotate anything, including feet and hands

Advanced Creature Paint - allows for individual coloring of parts on a creature, like in the building and vehicle editors

Ambient Occlusion Disabler - removes baked-on shadows for creatures

Delta Paints - adds new skinpaints

Valla's Skinpaint Switcheroo - adds duplicates of all vanilla, C&C, and GA creature coat and detail skinpaints into their opposite category

Getting dropped through a portal and landing in the middle of a fight isn’t great. Fortunately, you're dressed for the occasion since you’re filling in as Robin. Unfortunately, your comms are dead. Fully dead. Dead enough that there isn't even a trace of static to be heard.

It could have been worse, you think as you help Nightwing (alternate universe? Probably alternate universe Nightwing, he doesn't seem to recognize you) clear out a group of goons. At least you're in Gotham and at least you didn't land directly in the path of the batmobile while someone was driving it or something.

Nightwing is wary of you and your supposed help, at least, until you get a moment a tell him the code for alternate universe situations because of course, there’s a code for everything.

(Code for time travel, code for alternate universes, code specifically for family, etc, etc. You leave all those codes up to Batman to decide.)

He doesn’t totally relax, obviously, but he’s willing to take down all the goons before focusing on you.

You're clearly bat-trained, have bat-gear and would look like a carbon copy of Robin if Tim was currently Robin and not Damian. It isn't difficult to believe you are a dimension traveller (you aren't the first and likely won't be the last either), especially with the obvious portal you hopped out of.

And well, things should be okay if you’ve got the family code tagged along with the standard code, right?

Either way, you and Nightwing end up going to the batcave. There’s some back and forth banter, you ask about who’s around and find out that it’s basically everyone you remember from the comics in their own role. Their universe is a bit ahead of yours it seems.

“D’s not allowed to be Robin until he’s more than 4 apples tall,” you tell Nightwing. By 4 apples tall, you mean 4 apples on the height chart you bought to mark Damian’s growth.

"4 apples tall," he mouths, delighted.

Dick had reacted the same way when you put the chart up. Damian had been livid.

The batcave is every bit as dark and cave-y as you remember it to be. Batman is there. So is Red Robin. And Spoiler. It's still early in the night so everyone else is probably still doing patrol.

Being interrogated (kind of) is interesting. It would be more effective if you hadn't seen similar songs and dances hundreds of times. Plus, Batman isn't being too harsh about it. It might be because you're Robin, because you're family.

The edges of your domino mask are peeling off. It always feels like you never put enough glue.

Well, you might as well reveal yourself. With the retrieval of the glue solvent, removal of the mask and a quick run of your hand through your hair, you could consider yourself off duty.

“Are you a girl???”

“Congrats on your top surgery.”

Hilarious. You laugh softly and ask, “Do you guys think I’m Tim?”

Something discordant ripples through everyone. You thought it was obvious you weren't Tim but well... You smile and hide your teeth.

"I'm (Y/n) Drake, nice to meet you."

You’re pretty sure that your universe will figure some way to get you back so you tell Batman that if you haven’t disappeared by the time 48 hours have passed, he should probably contact a magic user to get you back.

No one is going to bed apparently. It’s Sunday tomorrow. They’re not technically the family you know so you don’t say anything about pulling an all nighter.

There are some fascinating follow-up one-on-one conversations afterwards once they get past the "Tim's older sibling who doesn't exist".

Dick mentions it’s a bit odd to see you as Robin. You’re technically the oldest person to have ever been Robin as everyone grew out of it (died in it, got fired, etc) and got their own costume before they hit 18.

You point out it's not really your costume and that you only really fill in when you have to. He tells you you're still part of the legacy. You're still Robin. You... don't really know what to say to that.

When he asks you how you got involved, you shrug and say you just followed Tim. "He's my brother. What was I supposed to do? Leave him?"

Anyways, interesting conversations between two people who have been eldest daughter syndrome-d. Maybe things are better in your universe where you're there to ease the emotional load of the family but it shouldn't have been your responsibility. It shouldn't have been Dick's either.

You end up telling Jason that the Joker is dead in your universe. More specifically, that he "had gone missing a bit after Red Hood arrived in Gotham". You don't say exactly how it happened but he can probably infer that you had something to do with it.

The two of you probably bond a bit over your paper thin morals. After all, when you aren't playing at being Robin, you don't have to follow Bruce's moral code either.

Bruce is okay. The one here isn't horrendously terrible or anything but there were probably more bumps along the way. You straight up tell him to start seeing a therapist. His nest of birdies are his children first before they are his vigilante partners. He should make that clear before he makes another blunder, fails to apologize, and has to try to mend his relationships again.

He asks if you’re one of his children. You laugh until your ribs hurt.

Damian asks why you (and your Tim) are still Robin. You’re reasonably confused. Dick had informed him that your Damian is with the Waynes already yet has not been made Robin.

You aren’t exactly aware of how this Damian (or comic Damian for that matter) became Robin but you just tell him, “There’s no rush to pass on the mantle. Besides, we’re a couple years behind you guys.”

"You coddle him." "He's literally like, 9."

He'll figure it out someday once he gets past the being raising in an assassin cult thing. You ask what pets he has to derail him.

Things are easier with Cass, as they always have been. She takes one look at you and definitively declares "Family". You smile, ruffle her hair, the same as you would with your Cass, and she drags you away to talk to Steph.

Steph cracks a joke about your presence evening out the gender ratio in the household. She's also on the phone with Barbara so you say a quick hi before being swept into the next conversation.

You and Tim. Tim and you.

It’s been years since Jack and Janet Drake have died. Years upon years since Tim was a little boy waiting by the phone for his parents to call and tell him they’re coming home. He thinks some part of him still longs for them, despite it all.

And now, there is you. His sibling who never existed.

You remind him of his mother, of Janet. You’re as sharp as he remembers her being but you’re so terribly warm and patient and casually affectionate in ways he still isn't used to. Perhaps you're how Janet would've been like if she had loved him more.

You and Tim probably have the most to talk about out of everyone, especially about the early days from before he became Robin. Throughout it, he finds out just how much you've involved yourself in the other Tim's life. There's something sad in your expression when the two of you talk.

He hasn't needed someone to protect or raise him for a very long time but still, it must have been nice to have you, to have someone to trust and love him unconditionally.

For what it's worth, you tell him you're proud of him. Even if you don't exist in this universe, he's still your itty bitty tiny little brother.

Something bubbles in his chest. He thinks it might just be jealousy for the version of him that has your unconditional love. The version that has everything that you could give him.

Alfred brings down food for you to eat. Despite the fact that you don't belong, he insists on calling you "Master (Y/n)". Some things never change you suppose.

Everyone notes that it's very very strange to see you be so familiar with everyone when none of them know you. It's like they're all stumbling over a step in their life, fumbling in their interactions with you, uncertain about what to do.

Duke wanders into the Batcave in the morning and finds you at the batcomputer, still wearing your Robin costume. You get one look at him and go, "Ah they didn't tell you about me did they."

You give him a quick rundown ("I'm from an alternate universe, yeah I showed up last night, I'm Tim's older sibling, I'm only a placeholder Robin, no I don't really know you but I think I've seen you around in my universe before") before he leaves for day-patrol.

He's cool. You'll keep an eye out for him when you get back.

True to your expectation, less than a day after your arrival, a portal opens up beside you. Everyone's in the batcave and are able to see you off as Tim (your Tim) reaches out to bring you home.

You're wrapped up in hugs immediately upon return. So clingy, you think as you say, "I'm home."

Tim, who's buried by your side, mumbles, "Welcome home."

As for you filling in as Red Robin later on, it might be better to discuss it chronologically with Batman getting lost in the timestream and the no good very bad follow up conversation about who should wear the cowl that somehow ends up with you filling in as Nightwing.

Guys, buy physical media it’s dying. They are taking it from us.

My local Meijer (a regional variant of Walmart) has stopped selling physical media. Like outright. It’s now gift cards for streaming services, and online shit. They are phasing out physical video games too. They are phasing out laptops, DVDs players, blueray players.

I know, I know, streaming services are so easy and convenient. But like, you don’t own it. You are at the mercy of the services. Once they kill physical media completely they can hike up the prices as steep as they like, $30, $40, $50 and more a month. Because it will be the ONLY way (short of pirating) that you can watch shows and movies. They will make it cable and satellite premium levels of expensive. And you won’t be able to stop them. They’ll hold your favorite shows hostage behind paywalls and micro transactions. They’ll vault up shows and movies and make them unavailable for long periods of time. You’ll have to have 7 different streaming services all costing $40 bucks a pop to watch the things you want.

You’ll have access to NOTHING without paying a premium. And remember, you already pay money to have an internet connection. Are streaming services really as affordable as you think? Internet price + the price of each service? That adds up. And they keep raising the price, and will keep raising the prices, because they know you’ll keep paying.

Having physical media means you get to watch your favorite shows and movies anytime. With or without internet connection. Broke as fuck? You can still watch it, because it’s yours. Did they lock up your favorite show or movie to make it more exclusive? You can still watch it with physical media because you own it. Want to let your friend borrow it? You can lend it to them, or burn them a copy. No need to fret about stupid services cracking down on password sharing. Want to watch the movie or show with online friends? You can stream DVDs over Discord so friends can watch with you.

(Am currently streaming Teen Titans the original animated series with my best friend over Discord. It’s mine, so neither of us pay anything to watch it together.)

Companies are writing off physical media as unprofitable. They are culling it. Taking it out of stores, making it less accessible.

People around me talk about all these movies and tv series they’d love to watch, but have to buy another streaming service to access it. And I offer to let them borrow the DVDs or Blueray, and they straight up tell me they don’t own DVDs or dvd players. Why?! WHY!? They subscribe to 4 or 5 different service instead forking out $50+ a month. But they put themselves at the mercy of these services, at the mercy of internet connectivity and access. They can’t even borrow a movie or show from me, because they are so dependent on internet and streaming.

Did you know there are literally ways to save your movies digitally and take them on the go? Streaming should be a neat little thing that’s convenient, it has its perks and uses, but it should NOT the only way to watch media.

Save physical media.

Buy a dvd player.

Buy movies.

Buy shows.

Own your media.

Stop renting it. Streaming is just glorified rental.

Stop renting it.

Because soon that’s all you’ll ever be able to do.
