don't really feel like elaborating on this further because i have. Waves hands other AUs I'm thinking and schemeing about BUT. hlvrai the thing AU. Gordon gets sent down to the research outpost. Everyone there has Already been Assimilated but they're all convinced they're the original (save for Benry. I think he's Aware lol) BUT they're like chill about it . It's fine. Smiles

In the old version of the plot for this au, it had a lot to do with it being a game and such. However over the years it's changed! No longer a game, instead the Rescas explosion seemed to have had a .. strange affect on Gordon, due to him being right next to it. At least, that's what they all believe at first.

How many times has he been caught off guard by the Science team just existing???

I don’t think he would take walking into a dark room first very well after getting his arm hacked off with an army knife.

Maybe there’s a moment where Dr Coomer gets a bit too close and Gordon has to take a moment to check he’s not one of the Clones that want to tear into his flesh to puppet him like a meat suit still alive

What if Tommys being a little quiet which isn’t unusual for him but when Gordon sees him standing behind and observing the group and conducting himself around the room in an important manner he has to check that time hasn’t frozen and he isn’t about to be face to face with the G-man for a cryptic conversation that could be the difference between the death of humanity and dying painfully from an alien attack

If the lights start flickering, taking his sense of sight for a second before briefly illuminating whatever hides in the shadows. Bubby might look awfully like a prototype. God forbid they are in a situation where Bubby has to run towards Gordon to get out of the line of fire.

And Benery. Just Benery. I think no matter how much development they go through, Gordon will jump into fight or flight the moment he appears somewhere he wasn’t expecting to see him. Just having to constantly have tabs on where in the room he is and what he’s up to.

If there was to be a normal world after black mesa, the science team would be irreversibly welded together from their experiences but would also be constant reminders of the worst part of their lives

genuinely devastating that it's been four years since hlvrai came out and i still haven't seen ANY art of dr. coomer and dexter jettster together 😢 come on bro hes dr. coomers FAVORITE star wars character. they can hang out in the diner (from star wars: the clone wars)!!!! i think he would love that shit. we have the freedom to draw whatever we want and yet.........!!! 💔 world is a fuck

Coomer: his greeting dialogue trigger is broken, he has multiple consciences going at the same time due to his clones he feels their pain and fear, his body loosely resembles a humans due to the replacement of limbs with robotics and generous removal of organs with few being replaced

Bubby: no real noticable glitches cept the car, he has pyrokinesis and can fly(fr spin dashes in the boss fight), he resembles a human more than Coomer but is more physically resilient than a human since he is the "ultimate lifeform"(Shadow kin fr)

Tommy: no glitches but does have an "auto aim" due to being an NPC and is scared by this, the full blown human of the science team, he made Sunkist when he was younger and he learned how to read sweet voice because of her

Darnold: no glitches but his programing prevented him from joining the team even though he wanted to, he invented most of the Gatorade flavours and is rich from the royalties, he is a normal human, and he is a workaholic

Forzen: he can glitch to random areas on the map but he doesn't have any real control over where he ends up, he joined the military so that he wouldn't have to pay for college, he never expected to be put into action, "Team Nice" was made up by the rest of his actual assigned group because they all decided he was useless and wanted a way to send him away, him and Benrey "were" friends because they got into a heated argument about gamer YouTubers they'll get over it though

Benr(e)y: got a respawn glitch a no clip glitch and his code got sorta overwritten with the code for The Nihilanth near the end, before the events of the game he was a volunteer for human experiments with xen crystals which caused his ability to use sweet voice and increased resistance, possibly why he was used as a vessel for the messed up Nihilanth code

Gman: has no glitches but is fully aware, his "employer" is the game itself he was to ensure the game continued as it was meant to, Benry's glitches did complicate things like how the time freeze didn't effect him, Mr. coolatta can freeze time and has connections to most files within the game

Gordon: is the host for the player and looses consciousness once the game starts, as the vessel he cannot die no matter what happens, the player can see the world as it "truly" is, before game Gordon was chosen for the xen experiments but was declared a failure because he didn't change as noticeably as Benry(let's just say there's a reason he's the player character)

There is something genuinely haunting about HLVRAI. Like it’s a comedy series, but there is some genuine terror in there.

Dr. Coomer’s clones, the way he will suddenly break from his robotic self into a nihilistic creature that somehow knows the secrets of Black Mesa, it’s scary. In Episode 4 when they reach the surface, Gordon asks why they can’t just climb the walls and escape, and Coomer replies in the scariest voice: “There’s nothing there. There’s NOTHING there.” His face contorts, his mouth opens further than normal when he talks, there’s a shrill ambient tone playing over his speech, it’s fucking terrifying.

Especially the Coomer clones, those are MORTIFYING. When Gordon is attacked by all the Coomer clones, the real one says: “I’ve been outside Black Mesa, Gordon. There’s nothing there but YOU. I know there’s a world in your dreams, and I need to go there. There’s an opening in your suit and I want in.” The way he talks about how he feels the pain of all of his clones is haunting. “Gordon, every time you go to sleep I can feel my body torn apart, atom by atom. It’s agonizing, Gordon… I’ve seen outside of Black Mesa, Gordon… There’s NOTHING. But I know you. There’s a world outside here, Gordon, and I need you to take me there.

I know I’m just quoting Coomer at this point, but his lines speak for themselves. He literally says with the most nonchalant voice: “Well, clearly crawling inside of your HEV suit and wearing you like a puppet didn’t work, so..” This is genuinely a horror series.

Benrey is also a terrifying character. He’s always so non chalant and comedic, but something about the way he mindlessly insists on Gordon showing his passport, the way he repeatedly comes back to life is chilling to me. Throughout the entire series, from the very beginning he has seemed more like a “thing” than a human. His motivations are so stupid but he has such a relaxed confidence that he can survive anything, it’s haunting.

He has his own rules for the world that are forever changing, never static. There are times where he berates Gordon for killing living creatures right after killing innocent people himself, it’s like he’s a child with no sense of morality given a gods body. I don’t know how to describe it, he is just so frightening to me.

Like the scene where he says that he added Gordon’s death to the All Dogs Go to Heaven 2 Wikipedia page is fucking hilarious, but it also gives off a haunting impression that he knows that Gordon is going to die and is preemptively adding it into history. When Gordon denies that he’s dead, Benrey says “Well, it’s not the end yet, so you can’t say anything.” Which is a TERRIFYING line, and the only reason it’s not talked about more is because he’s referring to All Dogs Go to Heaven 2. I love this series

Edit: While rewatching the finale, there’s a scene I forgot about that should definitely be included in this post. When the group is traversing the alien world, they find a dead guy in an HEV suit and Coomer says: “Look Gordon, it’s you!” Something about that is so scary to me, it’s like Gordon is watching a version of himself that died because of Benrey, it’s so scary for no reason

Also another Coomer quote: “Gordon, if you found out that everything around you wasn’t real- was FAKE- what would you do?”
