Calling all tumblr vegan-foodies! I discovered two products yesterday from two young and emerging companies! I'm not vegan, but I'm curious and critical. Taste and textures are important and I must admit that I seriously falled for two companies that deserve a lot of love! And for good reason, they REALLY stand out! The first "Green Brothers" offers Pogo Vegan, but beware...they have EXACTLY the same taste and texture as a classic non-vegan pogo. It's just crazy. They want to perfect their product even more (and honestly, they are already perfect in my eyes) and they want to expand their range eventually. They are young, dynamic and perfect allies for cravings. BIG favorite for their faux-chicken croquettes with Seitan. Again texture and flavors are totally on point. Arancini, Taquitos, etc. they are just...WOW! They are frozen, practical and once again they satisfy cravings! This company is passionate, young and visionary. They think big and they clearly deserve to be known (and to be successful). Exactly. The fear about predators isn't rational, but even once you realize that- you aren't allowed to change your parenting style because of the policies and attitude developed because of decades of media fearmongering. And putting all that aside, there is a rational fear of your kid being hit by a car. Or even simply having nowhere for them to go even if you let them wander. A few months ago my brother had his baseball team (15-17) over for a team dinner and they wanted to hang out away from the house. The only place for them to go was to do some light trespassing on the informal hiking trail. My mom had to call them back because if one of them sprained an ankle in a hole or got pushed off a cliff when they were roughhousing, she'd have hell to pay. (The fact its a baseball team is important. Minor injuries can be much more life altering if you're an athlete)

fuck it since my birthday is in like one day i'm gonna use my birthday wish to tell y'all to look at the shit going on in southern Appalachia right now after Hurricane Helene. look at it and talk about it and spread resources about it like wildfire because nobody else fucking is and it feels like we're on our own out here.

there are people who are stranded in hazardous areas that are still safer than trying to leave by driving on the increasingly hazardous roads. i'm personally going into my third day without electricity at this point, and haven't been able to get any gas for a generator to even keep our fridge working. there are very few places with power or running water, and cell service has just barely been restored in the last hour. ground crews are working hard to repair things, but there are many, many areas that are entirely inaccessible that may not receive these fixes for several more days if not weeks. i'm afraid my own neighborhood might become one of those areas if repairs don't get to us soon, and since we're much more rural i have a difficult time trying to be optimistic about it.

we're very far inland. i guarantee you damn near everybody here was expecting a little more rain and wind like we usually get during hurricane season, if they even heard about the hurricane beforehand in the first place since most people only got about a twelve hour notice before landfall- after several major areas had already been flooded. our terrain protects us from most major weather events- most locals have never encountered a single tornado or legitimate tornado warning in our entire lives. nobody i've talked to or heard from about it seems to have had any idea that it would be this bad. everybody's wishing that they took it more seriously, but we've never, ever had to before. i've seen people comparing it to Hurricane Katrina and honestly i'm not sure if that's all too inaccurate. today while looking for a single working gas station i drove by a military helicopter parked in front of the elementary school i went to when i was little.

please for the love of god, talk about us. talk about the good memories you had here or the beauty of our mountains, and talk about how devastated we are as we watch historic structures, buildings, and entire towns get wiped from the face of the earth like they were never even there. stop dismissing us as uneducated hicks and rednecks and hilllbillies and fucking help us.

Rook being a very physically touchy person and Lucanis avoiding touch at all costs from built up trauma from childhood, his work as a Crow, and the Ossuary. Them always asking for Lucanis' permission to touch him, and before Tearstone Island, they hug him and he still flinches but he holds them tight

As Rook is taken into the Regret prison and they see a vision of Lucanis' body on the ground, they scream his name out of concern and fear but all Lucanis hears is them screaming for him to help, and then they're gone. They're gone. He thinks they were screaming his name, begging him to save them and now they're gone.

Weeks into Rook being taken into the Regret prison and now a man who couldn't be touched without reflexively drawing a blade is craving the warmth of his partner who he thinks he'll never see again

Lucanis pulling Rook out of the prison, knowing it's them right away because of their hands. He missed their hands, he missed their touch, he missed their warmth, he missed them.

When Rook gets back, Lucanis' touch is slow and soft, almost unbelieving. Weeks of stress and torture and pain and guilt and regret, and now they're here. Once they're finally together, he feels as though the world is in their arms and if killing a god is the only way to stay there, he will do what a Crow does best and fulfill this contract
