hey terrible di fortress logistics realisations that maybe everyone else has already had, but:

di fortress uses mind control bugs

di fortress also produces a lot of dead kids.

the other mind control bugs we see explicitly depend on human brain matter to...exist? reproduce??

which leads me to two interrelated points.

is part of the reason di fortress goes so hard for death match training (other than just the cult/brainwashing uses) that they need a constant supply of human heads to keep breeding their mind control bugs? 1.1. sub horror realisation - once you start using the kids who die in training to produce more bugs to train more kids, it's a pretty easy slope from 'we need more heads for more bugs' -> 'kill more kids in training' -> 'kids who are trained more brutally either survive to be better at killing or can produce more bugs, which we need, because the attrition rate is now Very High' ->'there are twenty of you in a room, only one of you will be alive come dawn'. (and that's before you tag in any cult/religious/social reasons that influence a group in the direction of being the jianghu's no good very terrible combination orphanage/meat grinder)

is part of the reason the di fortress bugs are 'lower level' than the karmic bugs not just that they're straight up less powerful, in the way that a stick of dynamite is less powerful than an atom bomb, but also because they're being raised in the skulls of children, and thus have less access to brain matter/marrow/whatever it is they're actually eating. like island dwarfism, but for mind controlling bugs.

Present day thoughts:

Typical, Daffy coming over to Bugs' side of the forest.

Also Bugs is consistently very cheerful about Christmas throughout media, so that's neat little thing. He info dumps factoids about Christmas to Daffy in Bah Humduck. Also also! Bugs "I could explain it but it's much more fun to just watch" is so typical of him. He applies this thought process to everything. This is why his eyes tend to draw towards Daffy. And Elmer's reliably entertaining to watch because of how easy it is to toy with him.

absolutely hate when i can't think of where a quote or saying comes from but i know it absolutely comes from some piece of media i've consumed in the past and i agonize over trying to trace it back to the source and then give it up, and then i'm watching a piece of media and bam i found the root of the phrase and it's like. thor ragnarok. or something.

I don't like to get involved in discourse or drama whatever y'all want to call it but i do love lurking and reading all the petty biting justifications and reasons why people think they're right. But it has brought up something that id almost forgotten which is that black sails is continually misinterpreted and by existing within the story so are the characters. Black Sails managed to fit so much nuance and grey area into their story about stories that if you only watched the first episode or season or stopped mid way you're not going to understand it. The show constantly twists and forces perspectives to change and molds the characters and because it's well written the twists make sense. It's a slow burn show that idk forces the viewer into introspection it doesn't hold your hand no character is 'right' or 'good' that's part of the point "we're all villains here" as Rackham says. Black Sails kind of reaches in and slaps your bones around. I know other shows have done this but black sails feels more personal (someone else could probably explain that better but ya know?), and sure it's not gonna be for everyone but dismissing or writing it off because it's not "easily digestible" is kinda gross to me like life isn't easily digestible sorry. People love to hate and misinterpret Flint because he makes choices they disagree with like you can't enjoy a character regardless of your own moral leanings? Like that's part of why it's great who's right/wrong all of the above that's the grey that's the nuance a story is true a story isn't true what matters? But in the growing purity culture and black or white mentality that so many have along with only being allowed to consume 'good' 'correct' media and stories anything that makes you question yourself or exist in-between is Ooo Scary because it refuses to hold hands and lead you to what you've decided is 'right'. Idk critical thinking is a skill that some think theyre above.

This took me two days, soon after discovering the song I was inspired to animate my favorite section --though, now that I've listened all the way through a few times, I'm struggling to find a favorite, I adore it all.--

A chunk of yesterday, and a bit into this afternoon. Some good news is- I believe I'm beginning to get a grasp on how to optimize my work as well as draw easier. Beginning to be able to draw what I like easier, and understanding that I cannot fully render each frame and have it be smooth- helped a lot./lh

I warn as the animation does have some gore, and depicts a bug(that being a mantis). None of the frames are entirely clear but there is a few scenes that convey the visual of being impaled --including the bug--
