You know what the most frustrating thing about DAV criticism is at the moment? It's that I do in fact have criticisms. Quite a few, actually. It's a Bioware game, of course I have criticisms. No one I've spoken to or whose posts I've seen thinks it's perfect or above criticism. But the thing is, I—and I imagine a lot of other firmly positive blogs—know that if I share any of those criticisms, if I make posts discussing them and talk about the game's flaws, I will immediately be inundated by people using those complaints to insist that the whole game is garbage and the writing is bad and Bioware's a terrible studio who can't make good games and DAI (of all fucking games) was so much better and blah blah blah blah. I know that because it's happened every goddamn time I've made a less-than-positive post about DAV. And I don't have the energy to deal with that! The endless stream of bad faith criticism wears me down and having to constantly stop to defend a game I like when I'm trying to discuss its flaws because if I don't (and frankly half the time even if I do) people will use my posts to claim the whole game is garbage is exhausting, and fandom is supposed to be fun. So I can't discuss DAV's flaws on tumblr if I want to avoid that, and it is infuriating. I see people bitching about toxic positivity and people refusing to acknowledge the game's flaws, and I really want those people to take a second to consider: do the game's fans ignore its flaws and refuse to accept that anything about it is bad? Or have you created an environment that is so toxic that no one who likes the game wants to risk getting your attention by mentioning what's bad about it and they respond more aggressively than is warranted to even genuine critique in an attempt to ward you off? Because there will always be assholes who claim that genuine problems are Fine, Actually, Stop Being Such A Baby... but if people can't address the game's flaws in public without immediately getting dragged into five different arguments about how it is in fact ultimately a really solid game, they're not going to do it no matter how much they recognise those flaws.

Unpopular opinion but it’s always funny when you talk about an unconventional pairing of two characters with physical differences that one might consider extreme (human/monster, size difference etc.) to new people. Because the first thought they ALWAYS have is how they would bone.

And like, sure, you’re free too think about that if you feel so inclined but like- most of the time, for me especially, that aspect has never been important. And it peeves me that people immediately think sexual thoughts when it’s an “exotic“ pairing (especially when the characters belong to me).

And it’s not like I am against chatting about it but them literally having sex should be a conversation held after you’ve gotten to know the characters perhaps? Idk

Maybe it’s the acespec talking but to me it’s more about the underlying trust bond they have to build BECAUSE of their differences and learning to adapt and compromise as they learn to love each other.

I don’t know how to explain any more clearly that it doesn’t MATTER if it seems legitimate to you. You have got to fact check every single headline and post and claim on the left just like you need to do on the right.

The left is NOT immune to misinformation and rushed reporting. And the more emotionally polarizing or shocking the talking points, sound bytes, and headlines are, the worse it is and more frequently it happens.

Learn to verify through multiple independent sources. If you can’t do that, you can’t trust it.

If you have to wait extra hours for the real information to come through vetted channels—NOT just one individual somewhere everyone links to, and not just one single media source either, EVEN if it’s a major news network—thats just how it has to be. What news outside of genuine local disasters near you TRULY needs your outrage and post-sharing in the next hour specifically?

Misinformation works best by not seeming like misinformation and by fitting in with the rest of what you already expect to see. It doesn’t help anyone to not be able to recognize and avoid the stuff.

Not only that, but they're usually conscious/aware no matter who's fronting. Consider the moment in chapter 1, when Sun appeared distracted after seeing you there, and again, in chapter 2, when he went quiet but reacted like he was being scolded. These are both scenes where he and Moon were talking to each other.

They often disagree on how to go about handling certain situations, especially when Sun fumbles and says or does something he shouldn't (like the rambling fish metaphor, for example).

My thoughts on Sanji’s Clear Clear Fruit thing in Thriller Bark: I don’t think it’s written to be 100% comedy but I also don’t completely buy the headcanons about it being related to his childhood. What I think the scene conveys is that Sanji constantly lowers himself to the level of the people he hates. This isn’t a guy who thinks he’s a worthy, valuable, or even “good” person. He tells Absalom that they’re “the same”, he’s just another pervert like any man in the world. But that scene is so ironic because Sanji’s actions prove completely otherwise. People always complain about what he says, but what about what he does? He protects Nami, puts her at first priority, and felt like even the act of dirtying her dress would be the greatest sin. On first glance Sanji vs Absalom is set up to be some sort of funny perv vs perv fight, like “haha, there’s a right way and a wrong way to be horny!” But up till this point, Sanji’s fights have always contained brief and restrained glances into his kindness and selflessness. He will show his enemy a glimpse of his kindness. Then, as if he’s caught himself lacking, instantly do a 180 and close himself up. Think the time he “forgave” Bon Clay then immediately kicking him. Think how he “believed” Jabra’s manipulation (which idk if it’s anime filler or not!). Think even about that time after Baratie when he was about to feed the sea king who attacked them, then decided to beat it up instead. Of course, these also serve as prime comedic moments. But Oda expertly merges his gags with actual thematic messages in ways that make you laugh and then feel a bit uncomfortable after thinking more about it (He does this to Sanji the most btw). Sanji is kind, but he’s afraid of being seen as kind. He needs to act like his love for Nami and Robin stems from perversion instead of genuine respect and adoration. He needs to act like his sacrifice for Zoro was a dick-measuring attempt. If you ask me I don’t think WCI was planned out at this point in the manga, but Oda was definitely hinting at the fact that there was something more to Sanji than his Baratie story.

also this is a different and more specific aside so i won't put it on that post but i think there's a lot of people, on here especially, who don't quite realize the extent to which cellbit has been treated like a fucking pariah for years. like people have felt like they could say anything they wanted about him to tear him down without consequence (rip to those people, hope you enjoy being sued) and ordem fans in particular are fucking AWFUL about how they treat him. he's talked about like he's an obstruction that gets in the way of the true and pure ordem, rather than the guy who fucking created it in the first place. everything he did (and still does, although to a somewhat lesser extent these days) was scrutinized to the point of farce and people took every single action of his as filled with malice, like he was always the villain in every situation. i cannot overstate enough how fucking horribly he's been treated for years now and so while i think fair criticism and feedback is beneficial and good, i do think the level of scrutiny that cellbit is frequently under is fucking ridiculous and people should think about why they hold him to certain standards that they don't hold other creators to.
