Hey Ked, I have a question and you seem like the type of person that'd have the answer. What kind of body language, behavior, etc comes across as non-threatening? What should one do to come across as a "safe" person, one who's aware of and ready to respect boundaries? Source: newly transmasc person who's realizing the way the world views and interacts with me is about to change and wants to approach that with intention

You would think this, but I'm probably not the person to ask. I can barely act like a human being most of the time.

The best I can tell you is that IME, the only way to come across as a safe person is to just consistently be a safe person, and look out for when someone else is uncomfortable.

For me, for my own behaviors, I try to avoid getting into personal space, I ask or announce before I do things that might be startling or uncomfortable. For example, before I make a loud noise I will say clearly "Loud noise!!" which is what I do for the peafowl and they usually recognize this call. Or just "is it okay if I do X?" or "I'm doing Y just so you know" or something. I don't initiate physical contact with people mostly because I don't like it, but actually a lot of people don't really like touching people they don't know. You can always ask about boundaries too, or preferences. "how long do you want to do this activity" or "how would you like me to handle this" or whatever suits the situation. People like to know what's going on.

then you just consistently respect others. be kind. listen more than you talk. Make room for people to talk if others are crowding them out of conversation. be clear about your own boundaries. stand up for people even when they're not present, because other people watching notice that shit. you know. normal stuff?
