Confronting Sin
Brethren, even if a man be overtaken in any trespass, ye who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to thyself, lest thou also be tempted. (Galatians 6:1 ASV)
"Any trespass". There is no sin that we as believers should not be confronting head on. This letter though is written to the church. We have a duty to go out and preach on the streets. However, rebuking sin should be confined to those that are of the body of Christ. The only ones that should confront sin, are those who are spiritual. In other words, those that have overcome sin in their own lives and who are actively walking in the spirit. The person doing the confronting should be doing so gently. Only those who are spiritual and who have struggled to overcome sin will be gentle and compassionate with a sinner. He would have understanding of what the brother or sister's struggle and often failings. They understand that small victories are victories. The one confronting should be as diligent in the confrontation in the other person as he is in confronting sin in himself, as he too could be tempted in the same sin he is confronting in the other person. This is a practice not so often done in our churches these days. If it was done in our churches, we would likely be so much better off in terms of our witness to the world. This confronting of sin should be seen as the highest form of love as it can be received in the harshest ways by those being confronted. Nobody likes to told they are doing wrong, No body wants to be told they are doing wrong and they must repent. Our self-righteous, proud selves do not like to be stepped on like this. Two Ways to Live? As Christians we should be building each other up in the faith. Encouraging each other. Sometimes this may mean confronting sin in someone. Let us be careful to do this biblically and carefully. So that we do not come across as arrogant or proud. Lest we too fall into the same sin. Father, forgive us for not doing as your word instructs us to do. Help us to do what is right. I also ask that you give us wisdom to know how to tackle any sin, either as we see it in ourselves, or as we see it in others.

Daniel is confused when Johnny goes from slob to picturesque housewife once they start dating. He washes and irons Daniel’s clothes, cleans his house spick and span, cooks him breakfast, lunch, and dinner after learning from a book (all the recipes to choose from online overwhelmed him), and takes his suit jacket off for him when he gets home from work, handing him a fruity beer.
He starts styling his golden locks and wearing neater attire again, gazing at Daniel with borderline demureness whenever he’s finished dressing for the day like he’s praying he finds him pretty. (Daniel thought he looked just as good in his band shirts with his hair left alone.)
He asks about it one night after Johnny makes him one too many drinks, and Johnny’s like “I have to be better than every woman you’ve ever dated—and married—ever because I’m a winner, and I feel like I could die happy making everything up to you.” in his apron while baking Daniel cookies for his tipsy cravings before getting on his knees and giving him a mind blanking blowj*b that has him losing it before the timer dings.
He hand-feeds Daniel the cookies.

It's abundantly clear that they're not going in this direction but the whole puritanical thing is why I always thought redemption would've been the best way to defeat Belos. Sure if you kill him, you defeat him, but if you force him to admit both that he was wrong the whole time and has done horrible things AND that he is still capable of changing and doing good instead of being doomed to Hell forever, then you defeat his IDEOLOGY. That's much more powerful IMO.
1000% agree with you there, anon. If you simply kill Belos in battle, he will die thinking himself a martyr. If he dies after a complete mental breakdown and realizes that all he did was for nothing, then sure there will be tragedy and some schadenfreude for those who hate the character, but you did nothing to confront the ideology that made Belos in the first place. You just killed a man. You did nothing to actually address where bigotry comes from, or how trauma can deeply warp a person, especially without proper help.
Honestly, the worst form of punishment for Belos is not death or to be eternally trapped somewhere (that idea is ironically enough, a very Christian worldview) but to hold him accountable and to bring true justice. Make him realize that the people he hated for so long had good in them and that they are willing to accept his change of heart if he takes the proper steps to repair what he nearly destroyed (and to also acknowledge that most people may not even want to be anywhere near him but he should still takes steps to atone regardless).
Puritan ideology teaches that people are born sinful and are either predestined for Heaven or Hell and no action in life can change that. What better way to counter that view then to go the opposite route and say that people can change for the better BUT actions must be taken to address and repair the harm done to the community.
Give me restorative justice not retribution!
Unfortunately, the show doesn't really go too deeply into ideologies, it's a very relationship-centered show, which is one of its strengths. But I can't help but think of the missed opportunities of not showing more of Gravesfield and how toxic ideas are grown and cultivated in communities and not from individuals. How much stronger the show would be if it didn't pin all of its evil on one bad dude and if the Boiling Isles had systemic problems that were present before Belos.
Giving Philip a redemption arc would be the ultimate repudiation of Christian fundamentalism because it would break the cycle that allows hatred and bigotry to grow.
Thank you for the ask!

Okay expanding onto what I reblogged involving the ghost au:
The MAIN reason why Dre is with Cala romantically and platonically is that she has no idea who or what he is and happened to him. She doesn’t know about his world or anything! And deep down she feels safe since she wouldn’t know what he’s done
And that gets played a lot in the second half of the au when she goes to the server with him and she slowly meets everyone.
And everyone feels so familiar to him but at the same time— he doesn’t know who they are at the same time.
With Punz and Techno he feels the safest with but it just feels— off. And he doesn’t know why.
And god he definitely has no idea why he basically blacks out in a panic when he sees Q and Sam.
The whole world and the people just feel so tainted and unsafe.
And then there’s Cala who just feels..untainted
Who is just as lost as he is on what is going on
And he does love her— he does so much.
But sometimes it just feels like to him and others that— maybe he only likes her because she doesn’t know the truth of anything.
And a part of him wants to remember why these feelings feel so horrible but he holds himself back and he just- he wants the safety in her. So he starts being more aggressive.

What do you think Mine’s reaction to Masato / Aoki be like?
tbh they'd probably be. amicable. at the very least.
#snap chats#like they have similar values its just that mine's more openly depressed about his belief system and doesn't take pride in it like aoki#i talked about this before omg thats so funny... but yeah no aoki's more proud of 'how the world is'. prob cause he's 'on top' of it#mine begrudges the fact he needs material goods to be useful to people#meanwhile aoki's happy to exploit others if it means he advances. for the most part anyway#he only really starts to show some regret when confronted by ichi. and get the shit kicked out of him for twenty minutes#wait i was rewatching the cutscene and started to throw up cause i got reminded of me in high school again aoki you're 42 stop this#Back On Track Though. mine and aoki had similar pursuits: attain power to be loved thats the core of it in simple terms#they went about it differently ofc: for mine money was power and for aoki popularity was power. Both Very True TBH but anyway#mine realized that even with money his person wasnt valued#and aoki realized that even with recognition people didn't value his character. sins the arakawas. fcukin dummy#i mean aokis a jackass so no wonder but thats not the point of this. fuckfest of tags#they wouldnt be friends. aoki's incapable of friendship and mine would probably quickly recognize aoki as being power hungry#i think mine's been in enough business meetings And Knows Enough About Politics to recognize Professional Fakerism when he sees it#actually do you think mine'd be swindled by any 'kindness' aoki expressed like when kanda left him and he thought he just went to get help.#that shit was wack LMAO BUT REGARDLESS idk i have to go to class soon so im not gonna spend too much time thinking of this#if they needed to they'd just use each other for whatever purpose they needed the other for. idk why mine would need aoki tho#TLDR mine probably wouldnt think too differently of aoki compared to any other power-hungry freak#we can revisit this topic when. im not learning about JP history vjERJALKJ

Let's get one thing straight: I'm not!
But when you say then what?
You're not satisfied with my
"queer".
You say it's a slur but what isn't?
From gay to butch to trans,
they've all been used against us.
And you might be so lucky to be included in the LGBT
but here in the + it's getting crowded
and I'm tired of being an afterthought.
Queer is my super power.
It means I don't have to bare my soul to every stranger I meet
or give them a first row seat to the most intimet details of my life.
Don't get me wrong
I'm all about educating
but my sexual history is only between my doctor and me.
Queer is my tree house.
It can hold every non-cis, non-hetero person out there.
Everyone's invited
and I am keeping no gates.
On the front in bold rainbow letters:
"If you're queer,
you're welcome here!"

what do u think is jaime’s biggest flaw
oh he has a bunch
Biggest one: his fear of truly confronting things. his cowardice (the brave knight is deconstructed)
Arrogance is a given. His obsession with perception and his ego. His destructive dissociative tendencies and forced detachment. His self delusion and cynicism he uses to enable acts that his conscience knows are wrong. He also often falls into the trap of cynicism when he expects quick results and does not get them. When he makes choices to become better and people keep dehumanizing him and expect the worst from him he gets super frustrated and petty (less so atp, just compare his behavior to Brienne’s reaction when he gives her Oathkeeper and she misreads his intensions vs the gate not being opened for him in ADwD) His misogynistic and classist blindspots. Him weighing his values wrong even when his conscience is screaming at him (multiple examples of this, e.g Jeyne Poole: “her eyes were sad and wary”, “then why do you sound so frightened?”: vows from so many vows speech in conflict: obey your father vs protect the innocent. He obviously chooses wrong. George was telling us the way he changed by the end of ASoS is not enough he is not where he needs to be yet) His desperate want to make his “so many vows” compromise instead of making the correct choice and drawing the hard line he already did at 17. His desire to become Goldenhand the Just (just a mess frankly, gold tends to have negative symbolism in his story, his goldenhand also is associated with violence and is his desperate attempt to recreate his old self, his phantom fingers — again, has to be addressed in a dream.) While we are here also his need for his subconscious to literally repeatedly slap sense into him (his dreams addressing things he refuses to consciously address because it would hurt to do so). His tendency to repeat his father’s dogma when he is viscerally aware that that man is the worst man oat (Lannister sibling parallels! uwu!), unwittingly contradicting it in every way, then trying again. His desire to pursue glory as well as honor (and whatever they mean in the subtext) when the symbolism is very clearly established that the two cannot be achieved simultaneously for him, he cannot ride two horses at once. It might be that both get turn down at the end in some form. The honor related to the KG, and the glory related to duty to house Lannister. I think that conflict is getting picked apart right now with the choice he makes in ADwD to abandon his position/hunting down the brotherhood any kind of glory tying to house lannister pursuit etc to follow an injured and suspicious Brienne alone (mind you he was also riding Honor in that chapter, ntm the half moon). I think both honor and glory are very abstract and are rooted in some form in his desire for love as well (honor and glory paid their parts but in the end it was for cersei is something he reflects on) but “the things we do for love” has to be something not destructive and prejudiced. He is disillusioned by both honor and glory, especially after aerys. “What is honor?” A horse. Like deep down he knows. His arc in AFfC-ADwD was about about taking apart and looking at all of these flaws imo, put him in a spot to make his choice in adwd. and all that matters are choices. He is also an asshole.
#ask#this is another reason i love his arc so much bc changing is really not simple at all#to what and why you are changing has to be thoroughly examined#and all your flaws have to be brought to the surface#and also how our self concept plays into our choices and what altruism even means#or what becoming better even means#i also think ppl take vows a bit too literally like they also represent something more abstract in terms of his values#and he does this too like he fixates on it bc its easier to just be like yeah im just keeping this vow nothing else haha#like his self proclaimed ‘’im doing this for the bit’’ is so easy to pick apart#trying to keep that oath to a dead lady like#cat is dead. she couldnt be kicking piles of doodoo at him#like what’s he got to prove?#it is something deep rooted for him and him only#‘’let them see the cripple. i wont show them a golden lie’’ and the return to that ‘’one hand. only one. no golden one’’#alright then lets keep going anyway#when it comes to analysis of jaime the subtext is so important#the show whitewashed him and kept him stagnant#george explores his flaws and forces him to start addressing them#and constantly presents him with dichotomies#i hope then his trajectory will be now actually confronting his sins directly#the lady stoneheart confrontation will have to be a key pivot point#especially as per her symbolism as the monster that is the product of the lannister regime#and its her family that he caused the most harm to#his biggest sins relate to her

getting scammed achievement unlocked 👍 at least it wasn’t a lot of money but yep that’s a humbling experience indeed. it will be fully resolved only after i receive my new bank card and the bank decides if they can compensate me for this loss (i suspect they won’t, i don’t think i meet the criteria for when they can do that but they said they’ll consider it lol okay they’ve replied already and they won’t do it because i “agreed” to the transaction) so i’ll be feeling cringe until then. but it could’ve been a lot worse so i guess at least i’m learning to be more cautious about transactions without suffering some crucial financial loss in the process
i mean ok i’m not fine i feel very twitchy now but again. could’ve been worse
