in confidence, do they secretly date for a while ? not necessarily hiding their relationship from the world but basically just letting their family and friends know they’re together? i only ask this because of how high profile they both are.

It's definitely not that much of a secret.

Neither of them makes any sort of statement about it but they're seen out enough that most people get the idea. They share a car, always, because honestly they're usually coming from the same place and Anthony becomes pretty well known for getting out of the car in front of her building, opening the door for her and kissing her forehead before he gets back in the car and they go their separate ways, and then he goes into the office at the end of the day to pick her up and comes out carrying her bag for her.

Truly, the person who this gets sprung on the most, is Lucy Abernathy. Anthony's baby brother's girlfriend of a few years just graduated from High School and looking for experience before she goes to university for software engineering.

And Anthony sidles up to her, nudging her with his elbow.

"Go away Anthony."

Anthony sighed. "But I'm here with the opportunity for you to meet number 3 on Lucy Abernathy's most inspirational women list."

Lucy's eyes narrowed, "You don't know Kate Sharma."

Anthony scoffed a little primly, clearly hurt. "I absolutely do. I'm... intimately acquainted with Kate Sharma in fact."

Lucy rolled her eyes. "Kate Sharma's a genius, she has an MBA and a degree in software engineering and she did it all while running her father's company at eighteen. There's no way she fucked you."

Anthony sighed, "She did! And she will again, Lucy!" He stood, sighing again sadly. "It's a shame, because I thought you might want to come with me now, and be her new assistant but you don't believe me."

He could see the indecision in her face, warring away there before she stood, kissing Gregory's forehead as he slept on the sofa. "I swear to god, Anthony if this is a prank I will tear up every single one of your shirts."

"What kind of prank would this even be?!"

And Lucy does get the absolute fright of her life when Anthony leads her into the Sharma Tech office, right past the front desk and there she is, Kate Sharma, sitting at her desk.

"Holy, fuck, that's actually Kate Sharma!"

Anthony rolled his eyes, knocking on the glass door smiling as Kate looked up, adjusting her glasses. "Kate, Darling!" He smiled at Lucy who squeaked, "I've a tiny gift for you."

Kate blinked at him a little bemusedly but kissed his cheek regardless. "You've brought me a teenage girl? An odd gift, and for future reference: I'd prefer a pair of shoes."

"Noted." Anthony said quickly, "But, this is Lucy, and Lucy is your dream new assistant. She's very punctual and organised, and she has never been to a serious event while high. She also wants to be a software engineer and you are number 3 on her list of inspirational women."

Lucy nearly died when Kate Sharma, worthy of a barbie doll in Lucy's opinion, looked directly at her and smiled. "Please tell me Margaret Thatcher didn't beat me out."

"Um- no." Lucy said awkwardly, suddenly feeling ridiculous as her sneakers squeaked against the floor. "Ruth Bader Ginsburg did."

Kate whistled, "Well, I'm satisfied then. Anthony can show you where to start."

There's an incredibly pretty girl at the front desk in Family Video, and Steve—Eddie's boyfriend of eight months—is leaning over the counter with a sly smile and half-lidded eyes.

Eddie pauses in the doorway, struck dumb for a moment as he takes in the scene, and then gleefully ducks down behind the nearest shelf.

"So tell me," Steve says, all low and intimate. "What kind of movie were you looking for?"

"Um," the girl says. She doesn't sound very enthusiastic—barely indulgent at best. Eddie wishes he could see, but any sight of him will ruin Steve's chances right now. He's got a pretty good mental picture though. "I really like those old black and white movies, the really glamorous ones, you know?"

"Oh, totally," Steve sighs, like he's swooning. "Like Cary Grant, Clarke Gabel?" Eddie can practically hear his smirk. "Katharine Hepburn? Ginger Rogers?"

"Oh, I love Ginger Rogers!"

"Really?" Steve says matching her excitement. "Well, you're just in luck! Robin here knows all about those old black and white movies, don't you Robin?"

Eddie presses a hand to his mouth to hide his snickering. Robin had looked like a hooked fish when he'd walked in, she's gotta be gaping stupidly right now. "Uuuh," he hears her mumbling, and tries not to snort too loud. "Y-Yeah, uh, golden age of Hollywood stuff, absolutely. I could? Show you where they are?"

"Oh my gosh, that would be amazing!" the girl says, her interest in the conversation now warmed by several degrees. Eddie is still a little in awe of how well his boyfriend can sniff out gay girls.

"I got the front here, Robin," Steve cuts in smoothly. "You ladies take your time, make sure you pick out a good one!"

Eddie waits another beat, listening at their footsteps shuffle away, before he pops up from behind the shelf. Steve, lighting up like a Christmas tree, beams at him.

"Am I a genius or what?" he whispers, grinning ear to ear.

"Your lesbian powers know no equal," Eddie says just as quietly, taking the girl's spot at the counter, leaning into Steve's space. Steve happily mirrors him, until they're tucked together, the world narrowing down to the two of them. It's Eddie's favorite place to be. "All hail Steve Harrington, blessid he, lesbian whisper. Come to aid all useless queers in the fight against singledom."

"Thank you, thank you," Steve says with an air of novel benevolence. "I promise to only use my powers for good."

"Dingus. Doofus."

They jump away from each other as if shocked. Robin glowers at them both, but the pretty girl behind her is giggling and standing way too close for friendly, just at Robin's elbow.

"Move it, lovebirds," she hisses as she rounds the desk. "I need to check Claire out."

"I think you already have," Steve says. His smile this time is down right evil.

Robin actually hisses at him, and hip checks him away from the register. Eddie does a bow, sweeping his arm out to give Claire the prime spot in front of the desk, before he turns back to Steve.

"My dear, if you could please," he simpers, all posh and nasally. "Show me to your finest, grossest horror movie, thank you my good sir."

"Ugh," Steve groans already heading off into the shelves, not waiting for Eddie to follow. "You're lucky I love you, Ed. Shit gives me nightmares."

"I know," Eddie sings, chasing him. "I love you too."

The last chapter of Confident is so good!!! Kate going home to Mary and Edwina felt so healing then the lobby scene with Anthony was so well done and vulnerable and also Newton!!

Question, when did Kate "ask if history was for sale" according to Edwina? that's SO funny! Icon behavior indeed.

Kate wandered into to the British Museum when she was 22, and rolled her eyes every time she saw the words Donated by, or on loan from. And Kate sighed, whipping out her cheque book and going over to the man doing a tour in the corner.

“Hi, Kate Sharma, lovely to meet you.”

The man blinked at her, shaking her hand, “Miss… Sharma�� can I help you?”

“Yeah, I was just wondering… how much would a Benin bronze set me back?”

The man gaped at her as whispers started in the tour group behind him, “I’m sorry? The exhibits… aren’t for sale? And I’m not sure You could-”

Kate chuckled, “I have 6 billion pounds, is that enough?”

The man’s eyes darted around as he gaped at her, “I don’t… it’s not for sale?”

Kate sighed, tucking her cheque book back in her bag, ignoring Edwina’s guffaw behind her as she said, “Sorry, I thought I was in the British Museum. Isn’t history for sale here?”

And walked out, waving to the person filming her on their phone.

Unfortunately, Kate has to tell this story to Anthony when he’s talking about an exhibit he’d like to see, clearing her throat awkwardly.

“So here’s the thing: I’m banned from the British Museum for life.”

“O…Kay? How did you…?”

“I just sort of…” Kate waved her hand vaguely “implied they were thieves you know.”

Anthony burst out laughing, kissing her forehead, “I’m obsessed with you. Anywhere else you’re banned from?”

Kate winced, “The Tower of London? There was an incident with some Crown Jewels.”

“Fucking obsessed with you.”

“And one Asda in Watford.” Kate shrugged, “But that was… a misunderstanding.”

Their actual first meeting in the Kyoshi Warriors AU!

Katara had her Oh moment before exchanging a word with Jian Li, and while she gets over it in time (or, at least, convinces herself that she's not embarrassed by her initial reaction to him) this quasi-interaction haunts her for the first couple of days of their stay in Kyoshi Island.

It's just not fair that the place is full of gorgeous people! Or that he's not only beautiful, but also kind and awkward and respectful and dorky and—oh, La—she's in trouble.
