Can you remake the scene of the ROTTMNT movie with Weiss as Donnie and Blake as Mikey. The scene is where Donnie hacks the kraang ship with his hands. (I really hope you know what I'm talking about because I don't have a link)
im so sorry i have no idea, when i looked it up all I got was Soft Shell Donnie hooking up to the ship. Pretty sure that's not what you meant. But have Blake witnessing Weiss's Techi time.

Why do some university students two years younger than me not know how to use Microsoft Office? I knew that schools don't teach computer skills as much as they used to, but like... this is worrying.

genuinely i can't stand it when someone online goes, "The kids these days don't even know X and they haven't even heard of Y! What has our society come to? Surely this is the end of days!" like that's not just how kids work. kids start out not knowing most things. the great part is that they are extremely teachable! this is a fixable problem

born to be a silly guy doing cutting-edge technological advancement, forced to meticulously explain the difference between gmail and protonmail at 3 am to a guy who is supposed to have five years experience of working in an office job.

i need to delete twitter fr, every day i see the worst ever 911/buddie takes and it makes me feel like im in the office staring straight at a camera because how have we been watching the same show 🤨
so true anon. twitter is a hellscape and i say this as someone who still has the app on my phone but i think i only open it like once or twice a week when a like all-caps notification piques my interest and i feel like schrodinger opening his box to see if the cat is alive or dead (spoiler alert: its dead. its always dead.)

it's really interesting to see that even people my age, "young people", are on such different levels when it comes to technology. Like, I am not super tech-savvy and my mind was blown when my brother showed me how to do some basic stuff in the command line.
And meanwhile in my english class I managed to impress my peers just by using a shortcut that wasn't ctrl+c/ctrl+v.
Kinda wild.

As slow as they were, the old blocky desktops and their components were reliable if you treated it right. Also, extremely easy to build or restructure one to work the way you wanted, with basic warranties and easy to find parts
Me: oh yeah, if you think school photography is hard now, try imagining doing this with film.
The new girl: what's film?
Me: ... film. Like... film that goes in a film camera.
New girl: what's that mean?
Me: ... before cameras were digital.
New girl: how did you do it before digital?
Me:... with film? I haven't had enough coffee for this conversation

Sorry about all the posts about people not educating themselves. It's a topic im deeply passionate about and have a hard time understanding the opposition on because I am a fundamentally curious person who went and practiced the research techniques I was taught so that I may research better.
Plus I have autism so "researching to understand the world around me better" comes with the territory.

me, using skills that in 2013 were just enough to get my certified in desktop publishing:
my coworker who seems to be about my age, possibly a couple of years older: YOU'RE A COMPUTER GENIUS
#this was prompted by a post I just saw where someone jokingly asked ''what do kids not use folders anymore?''#(i already forgot if i reblogged it or not)#and like. this example isn't quite accurate because this coworker is in my age group.#but the ''kids'' (born 2000-2005) i work with have almost zero computer literacy#none of them ever learned to touch type#none of them know how to use folders or attach files to emails (let alone how to WRITE emails)#and no one's being taught any troubleshooting or anything#(and a tangent but no one's being taught any professional or technical writing either - it's all academic writing)#(''academic'' being used very generously because i would have been skinned alive if i'd submitted writing like that for a grade)#old man screams at clouds#etc etc#it's just sad to me. like. i get that i have a past employment life in graphic design that was primarily based in desktop publishing#for the first half of it#and functional/elearning design for the second half#so i KNOW i work more quickly and efficiently than the average joe would#THAT PART IS FINE#but the fact that my coworker has so little of a fucking clue that she can't even process what i'm doing?#the fact that i've basically taken over all of our data entry tasks because she has no idea how to describe a physical location on a map?#i'm not a computer genius. my skills in the past were generally considered mediore or a hair above.#but computer literacy is getting worse and worse and it's terrifying in our current technology climate

I've seen this after they come out of school too. I worked in a TAFE library (TAFE stands for training and further education for anyone who doesn't know) and part of the role was providing a bit of IT support. Being adult education we had a lot of older students doing training to re-enter the workforce that weren't super familiar with computers, not for doing research and assignment work, but I was surprised at how many young adults were the same, even those who had come out of school and I would have assumed would have been using computers for assignment work there. They would be going straight into coursework to become a nurse or community services worker or engineer or whatever, without knowing that when you download something it goes to download folder, how to structure and locate folders and files, difference between Save and Save As, saving to USB, how to identify which drive is the USB, shortcuts, even had to explain that you don't have to exit that program to open another, you can have them both open and even side by side. Basic word document formatting. And that's before you even get to good online research skills.
I suggested maybe there should be basic computer use class offered at the beginning of the year, but was told funding would be an issue. So it puts those students in a position where they might actually do well with the course subject itself, but are held back and struggle by lack of IT knowledge.
It's funny because my mum teaches prep and Grade 1, and quite often we talk about changes to education, and she'll say "we've been told that isn't important to teach young children to recognise cash any more" or "we've been told not to worry about fine motor skills" and it's like, but when are they going to learn it? Are we going to have to teach our hairdressing apprentices how to hold scissors and our trades apprentices how to hold tools, if they haven't developed fine motor properly in their early years? Will we need to teach adults how to recognise and handle cash? Because we're already seeing it in computer skills
Telling young zoomers to "just switch to linux" is nuts some of these ipad kids have never even heard of a cmd.exe or BIOS you're throwing them to the wolves

IT: shut down & restart your computers!
Me: soooo I learned recently that shutting down my computer and then manually powering it back on is maybe NOT a valid way to restart (due to default on fast startup option basically putting a "shut down" computer into a form of hibernation rather than, like, actually shutting it tf down), is that right? I seriously have to turn my work laptop on (from when I shut it down last night) and then restart it (using the menu Restart option)? Or restart at some other point during my day??
IT: Great point! You can change your power settings. [Explains how to get power button to "shut off" computer in control panel]
Me (to myself): but that? Wasn't my question? Has nothing to do with fast startup?? (A setting I don't have permission to even view, let alone change, at work)
Me: ok but do I have to restart even though I turned it on after shutting it down?
IT: If you'd prefer not to shut down, you can just restart
Me (to myself): am I losing my mind? Answer the damn question that I asked!!
[More not answering my actual damn question ensues]
