Complex car electronics spark rise in breakdowns.
A recent march, 2024 article speaks of how: “figures show that increasingly complicated electronics in cars have prompted a surge in expensive breakdowns.” And yet car manufacturers seem to ignore the fundemantal fact that high complexity is a path to guaranteed vulnerability and are constantly dreaming up increasingly complex and ambitious features that will only make matters worse. While…

Low key very tired of people responding to veilguard criticism with something along the lines of “lol these people have no media literacy, didn’t you understand what the game was telling you??” Yes, yes I understand what the game was trying to tell me. That doesn’t mean I have to like it or the way the writers went about it.
Also the whole argument of “well, the dragon age fandom proved they couldn’t handle xyz controversial character/element of the story so that’s why veilguard had very little references to those things” kinda grinds my gears a bit. I don’t think it can be proven with 100% certainty what writing decisions were made based on past fandom reactions to the other games, but I do think it would be an incredibly shitty move to simplify or remove complexity from a story just because there might be a portion of the audience who doesn’t get it. “The fandom couldn’t even handle Vivienne” Yeah a good amount of people dismissed her as a selfish snooty bitch, but I didn’t and a lot of other people didn’t and to remove complex and interesting characters like her on the basis that enough people “won’t get it” just feels like a disservice to all of us.
#datv critical#BioWare critical#listen. I get that video games are products and for a product to sell more it’s gotta have mass appeal#and to have mass appeal it’s gotta cater to a wider audience#so yeah maybe simplifying things and removing controversy is good for the bottom line#but as an appreciator of art and good storytelling it just wounds my soul a bit lmao#also even if you’re afraid your audience won’t get something#wouldn’t it be better to present the more complex versions of things on the off chance some people grow and learn from it??#maybe some people will encounter something that makes them uncomfy#and if you give them a chance to just SIT. WITH. IT. something interesting and new can come of it#idk!!!!#don’t mind me yelling into the void over here

Dead Boy Detectives and Interview with the Vampire are the best shows of 2024, in this essay I will–
#dead boy detectives#interview with the vampire#louis de pointe du lac#lestat de lioncourt#claudia de pointe du lac#charles rowland#crystal palace#niko sasaki#edwin payne#armand#jenny the butcher#lgbtqia#female characters are fun and complex#queer characters are respected and not unnecessarily tragic#though they are necessarily tragic#poc characters aren't just there for the sake of it#they're *gasp* actually three dimensional complex and flawed#without being needlessly villainized for it#not to mention the production for both shows is off the charts#and the casting is *chefs kiss*#honestly I could talk about these shows for hours

mouthwashing has truly showed me that we haven't evolved from the fucking witch trials. people can only ever point fingers, judge, hate, condemn, root for damnation. how the fuck do you look at a game about capitalism, psychological instability, complex characters, endless nuance and get out of the experience with the braindead take "curly horrible. anya, daisuke and swansea wonderful. jimmy bad." too many people haven't moved on from the reasoning of five year olds and disney - hero good and villain bad. people aren't fucking cartoon characters. we're not only good or bad. media literacy is truly dead and gone.

every time i see the “critique” of the newsies stage play that they use adult actors i lose 100 hp. girl this is the anti child labour and exploitation musical.
#child labour laws are incredibly complex for good reason and all child actors in stage shows must have alternates as they can only work#a specific number of hours#this is why all productions have several les actors#it is not at all feasible to have alternates for the entire cast of a major production nor is it ethical to make#children perform a gruelling musical like newsies in full eight shows a week#the choreography is brutal and they would wreck their voices#you can suspend your disbelief and imagine that the people in their early twenties are in fact in their teens for two hours#and yes the actors are older in livesies because they were brought back to reprise their roles#newsies

RE: Your post about Israel. You want me to just, hate a country? Many of my friends are Jewish or Israeli. It seems reductive to say “if you support Israel at all DNI.” Big “Us Vs. Them” and “Inability to separate government from people” vibes.
You're embarrassing yourself. Defending a genocidal ethnostate online from the mean bloggers who tell its defenders to get out of her sight with these limp and tired 'points' is embarrassing for you. I hope you're a teenager, because thinking of you as a gullible teenager is the nicest way I can think of you.
It's massively insulting to Jewish people to equivocate being Jewish with being pro-Israel Zionist. Apparently you believe that "living in a country" = "supporting a country's actions", which matches up well with your obvious inability to have a single thought for yourself when you can deepthroat apartheid propaganda instead. It is actually kind of funny that you're clutching your pearls over being told I hate a country, when I'm guessing that you share Israel's fundamental belief that all Palestinian men, women, and children should be wiped off the face of the Earth.
More than that, it's actively depressing that in my inbox contains a criminally stupid Zionist who got offended when I drew boundaries in my own blog and decided to send a crying anon about it to me; and next to it I have an ask from a Palestinian begging for money so he can save his family's life. Delivering cool dunks against you would be extremely easy and would make me feel like a cool #activist but it feels actively stupid to do so at this point in time. I made a post blasting the fact that I don't want to engage in a debate and that I'm deeply intolerant of pro-Israel and Zionist views, and you rolled up trying to debate with me over it instead of blocking me and moving on. I'm not going to step into your Tumblr slapfest out of the desire to give sweet dunks or delude myself into thinking that I can change the mind of someone who just wanted to start an argument for the sake of it. My greatest hope for you as a person is that you're deeply ashamed of yourself in ten years, but at this point you're probably so entrenched into your victim complex that you've chosen to die on the hill of people shooting children in the head.
You're wasting your life and polluting your soul, so do what I told you to do in the first place and go someplace where I'm not asked to waste my own life speaking to you.
#i contemplated not dumping fuel into the fire of your victim complex and being like nicer or something#because feeding your sense of persecution is going to make it much more difficult for you to stop being a zionist in the future#being catty online is satisfying but can be counter productive for these reasons#but then i remembered that people who argue with your DNIs are probably already deep into the pit#and thinking that slapfights have moral value is tumblr activism at its finest#i have basic respect for other people so you'll almost never see me actually be mean on my blog#not for this moron though. like who cares.

I know he's probably not going to show up again in future games anytime soon, and only two ending variants actually have him slice his left hand, but if Solas doesn't keep that scar to mirror Inky in future appearances I might just cry.
It's too perfect ok? Romanced or not, their stories are tied together (for good or ill) and him bearing a mark to mirror the one he inflicted on the Inquisitor? Poetry.
What's hilarious is the parallel probably wasn't intentional. He's just got the lyrium dagger in his right hand already and his left hand is empty and free, so it's the easiest thing to have him slice. Using right-handed animations because that's just the default (don't get me started).
But it WORKS so fucking well I'm just going to pretend it was 100% planned and the parallel is meant to be a brilliant callback.
#datv spoilers#dragon age the veilguard#dragon age inquisition#solas#inquisitor#Inky's mark fixes veil tears#solas's mark is a product of protecting the veil#they're just#arrrrrrrggg#but also sir why are you slicing one of the most fragile body parts?#couldn't he have nicked his forearm or thigh or something that isn't as delicate and complex as a palm????#like is there a blood quota? is picking a finger not enough?#that shit bled a LOT

as true as the jokes about “everyone wants to rewrite ninjago” are i feel like smthn people forget when complaining about the inconsistencies of the show is that…. it wasn’t planned? it’s not like most other animated shows lately - it didn’t start with a deeply fleshed out world or a meticulously designed pitch bible with grandiose plans for a long-term story or character arcs. the ninja don’t originally get their powers from heredity because they weren’t hereditary powers yet. the magic system doesn’t make sense bc they literally just made it up as they went! they go back and forth on stuff like whether non-elementals can learn spinjitzu bc it’s a collaborative piece of media made by people with vastly different levels of control over the story, the animation, the sets, etc. that varied over the course of the series. it’s totally understandable and exciting to see so many people reworking the early stuff with the lore and logic later seasons introduced but i personally feel that… if you’re doing that. you need to understand why the show is like that instead of writing it off as being bad and shitty. it was working with what it had. it’s only what it is now because of that awkward troubleshooting phase, not in spite of it
#ninjago#text✨#you’re 100% allowed to criticize the show but i keep seeing people complain about the inconsistencies about like. their parents giving them#their powers especially. like yeah cool that wasn’t a thing yet? they have different origins than the non-core elementals#because in the real world that idea hadn’t even crossed their minds yet! the original story was a more traditional fantasy narrative of#normal people rising to the occasion and *gaining* powers through their own feats. the fact that they changed it later doesn’t mean#it was necessarily bad to begin with or that it’s something that should be mocked#idk just. there’s a lot of hostility in some circles about this stuff and it makes me kinda sad. enjoy the complexity of production and how#series adapt over time. it’s part of why the show is so interesting to me#that essay i wrote had a whole bit juxtaposing the attitudes about technology in rebooted and prime empire and how they reflect greater#cultural trends between 2013 and 2021. it’s SUPER interesting and yet a lot of people only talk about it to make fun of how ‘bad’ it was :(#this isnt to say i don’t enjoy some of the retcons. the changes to their meetings with wu in s8 are genuinely really interesting! i love the#changes to cole’s backstory. i think his mom makes him in the early seasons even better! i’m just saying.. be respectful? nobody *tries* to#make a bad show. ages and ages of time and dedication were put into what ends up on your screens. it’s all human love and creation.#as goofy as it is#okay sry got all anthropology there but hm. been thinking about this for a while. apologies for being the local annoying early seasons fan

reverse unpopular opinion for....aw heck, go ahead with Rhea for this one as well
This might as well be a part 2 to the previous Rhea ask so :D
I find Rhea to be so compelling for several reasons, one of the biggest being the inherent contradiction that she is very much capable of caring, loving and trusting others, sometimes with some insane gestures when you realize their meaning behind them (ie. Saving Jeralt's life by giving him her blood thus risking outing herself because of it, letting Catherine keep Thunderbrand despite the fact it's the one Relic she could safely recover- implicitly trusting her with one of her family's remains without any obligation to do so, risk angering a noble house to give Cyril a better life and treating him like her son in all but name)... And yet she cannot, for the life of her, bring herself to be honest with them.
Something fascinating I noticed about Rhea is that she ironically seems to prefer people who are blunt with her, because look at the people she's closest to - Seteth spends all of Part 1 openly questioning her, Flayn is constantly on the verge of accidentally outing herself, Cyril is so direct and honest he sometimes accidentally comes off as rude (Shamir too even if she's not as close to Rhea) and Catherine wears her heart on her sleeve.
Heck, all of them are either not that religious or outright non-believers, which ironically I believe helps reassure Rhea they love her because of who she is as a person and not because she's the archbishop, especially given how much she implies to find the position incredibly alienating.
And isn't that just so fascinating? That she is more than capable than loving others and caring for them risking her own personal safety, she appreciates people being honest with her.... But cannot, will not be entirely honest with them in turn.
Because make no mistake, that right there is Rhea's true fatal flaw: her compulsive need to keep everything a secret.
From the big but understandable stuff that would get her and her family scrapped for parts if it became public to downright pointless shit to hide like not liking hot drinks, and it's the one trait that screws her over the most, between being the reason Jeralt left (since she didn't tell him ANYTHING about what happened with Byleth so he assumed the worst and fled) and the thing preventing her from making connections as deep as she actually wants (like even just telling her loved ones how much they mean to her), as well as getting the support she actually needs. And because she feels she has to bear everything on her shoulders, she crumbles under the weight because no matter how hard she tries, she will never be good enough.
In that sense the role of archbishop is a sort of mask to her. It's definitely a part of her, but also something she has sort of burrowed into like a safety net preventing her from being true to herself. Because that'd mean making herself vulnerable, in more ways than one. To say nothing about putting her surviving family and remnants of her dead kin to jeopardy.
If she were to open up she'd be... More lively, I think. Definitely sillier if Heroes is any indication, and arguably more willing to take a direct approach in helping people. And definitely more loved and happier.
And perhaps, one day she'd realize she doesn't need to bring her mom back to fix Fódlan. She's not doing it alone anymore, after all.
#ask replies#loregoddess#fire emblem#fire emblem three houses#fe16#fe16 spoilers#rhea#my rambles#is this coherent in any way? definitely not#i just love rhea as a deconstruction of the mikoto archetype#she wants to be like mikoto and lumera so bad but she can never measure up to them#and instead of seeking the help of others to compensate she tries to bring her goddess mom back#she's a foil to alear in that sense. i love them so much for different reasons#and i think they'd be great friends#like rhea's whole secrecy complex is definitely a product of her trauma#and i love it. i wanna put her in a test chamber and see how she functions#anyway again sorry for pretty much dumping words at random😅

I find it so ironically funny when hardcore Debbie defenders use the defense that she was just a victimised teenage girl (agreed) and then proceed to slander Fiona and express their hatred for her character and lack of sympathy
as if being an adult magically absolves an individual of the horrifying trauma that precedes them and screws up their mentality and actions
funnily enough these people get mad at others for "expecting Debbie to be an innocent angel and hating on her for acting out as a result of trauma" (also agreed, debbie does deserve more sympathy, she can't be expected to grow up to be a perfect saint when she's been through so much) yet seem to hold Fiona to the same unattainable standards and put her on a pedestal as if she wasnt a child that was forced to intensely grow up while never actually being raised
like lets put this into perspective and remember that fiona grew up surrounded by corrupt morals and insanely screwed up behaviour yet still emerged as messed up, yes, but surprisingly good considering the situation she was in??? she had to navigate basic things such as morals and being a good, responsible person on her own. imagine how difficult it must be to lead a bunch of kids, including yourself, with no previous role model or good example of your own to follow. most of the time, she always tried to do what she thought was best and would have the most desirable outcome
#listen a lot of the time debbie defenders make good points#is debbie my favourite? no but she does deserve more sympathy#im really unserious on here and ive made some dumb meaningless jokes but at the heart of it i have sympathy for debbie#so no its not the debbie defense i have an issue with#its the way these people claim to be#1 understanders of shameless women and their complexity#top defenders#including of the women who have said and done worse than/just as bad as fiona#and then proceed to spew all this vitriolic lack of sympathy regarding fionas character#they always talk about fiona making the choice to be their legal guardian#as if the situation wasnt complex and 1) she felt pushed into an inescapable corner#2) that doesnt change the fact that she'd have strong feelings about her baby sister choosing to have a whole baby???#she claimed legal guardianship over HER siblings she did not foresee any other children being added to the mix#so yes she went about it harshly at times when she made debbie raise franny independently#but its not surprising considering her exhausted life?? her history as a TEENAGE GIRL and CHILD of raising kids???#there are actual mothers who'd be worse about this situation and fiona wasnt trying to be nasty#it was tough love and it could've been shown in better ways#and im not putting all the blame on debbie cause she was so young and vulnerable#but at the end of the day she made a choice and fiona was trying to help her understand the importance of consequences to your choice#and navigating adulthood when you choose to behave like one#of course debbie was often put in situations where she felt like she had to be a grown up and that is not her fault#but its not fionas either. theyre all just trying to survive. and fiona tried her damn hardest to preserve debbies childhood#so how do you think she'll react realistically to the whiplash of debbie purposefully getting pregnant#ultimately theres a lot of complexity and flaws and nuance to these situations and i find it weird when people criticise#others for putting so much blame on debbie#and then do the same to fiona as if shes not a victimised product of her environment too#you can show sympathy to debbie while understanding Fiona too and being critical in a mature#nuanced way#im not being a hater to anyone btw im just sharing some thoughts and letting it out. all im saying is#most of the shameless women deserve sympathy and understanding and its strange to deny fiona of that

On Getting Rid of Your Inferiority Complex
You can take advice from everyone and every book you read, but no one can protect you proactively, unless you choose to protect yourself. Only you can do that for yourself. Your parents, friends, partner can support you emotionally but you need to stop relying so much on external validation.
When you’re making a choice that you know is going to be detrimental to your health, whether its physical, mental or emotional - such as going back to your ex, not taking the next steps for your career/ education - you need to think more about your (near) future self and make sure that she’s also comfortable. You need to think long term.
As we grow up, we often encounter situations that we’ve been in before to some degree, there’s somewhat a pattern to them. It’s time to start recognising them early and leave when you see the red flags waving.
By breaking your own word that you’ve made to yourself you’re making the inferiority complex worse. Because you’re showing to your subconscious mind that you don’t matter at all. Others do.
It could be something “small” such as going out clubbing with your friends because you couldn’t say no - and having an important presentation due the next day. It could be something “big” such as breaking off a difficult relationship, and still going back to them.
When we suffer from an inferiority complex, we idolise people around us and think they’re better than us in every way. We choose to see the best in them- just the way we choose to see the worst in ourselves.
At some point, we have had enough and decide to start improving ourselves. How do we do this? By improving ourselves in areas that you feel left out in.
Such as, seeing an influencer live your dream life. Now you’ll do everything you can to live like her because you think that once you achieve that, everything will be great. You try to improve in areas that have no direct relation to your inferiority complex.
You’ll try work on these things - while that can be in a way good because it’s alright to have a dream life and motivation for it, that doesn’t fix the inferiority issue.
Because the inferiority issue solely comes from lack of confidence and trust in yourself. Even if you get your ideal life like that influencer, that confidence won’t last long and you’ll find something else to panic about - you’ll compare yourself to your peers, or the anxiety of jobs after or the next shiny thing you want.
To actually combat inferiority issues you HAVE to build a connection with yourself. True confidence will only come when you connect with yourself with things that aren’t material things.
You need to cultivate a growth mindset and genuinely believe that you WILL get better with time, you WILL get smarter with time, you will improve your talent over time. You have to detach yourself from outcomes, whether positive or negative and just take it as life.
And this doesn’t happen overnight. It takes consistent effort to not feel fomo anymore or feel shitty.
You have to stop hesitating putting yourself first, putting your emotional needs first, standing up for yourself and saying a big fuck you to things that deserve it.
Not everything that you have today will be permanent in your life and that’s something you have to come to terms with.
But if your worth is fully dependent on other people, then you really need to sit down with yourself and start actually working on the relationship that matters the most - the one with yourself.
You’re intimidated by these influencers or the people who you want to be like, not because they wear designer bags, have cool outfits, vacations, boyfriends, girlfriends - but because they often have a very strong sense of identity.
They express what they like and don’t like. They don’t change themselves depending on the person in front of them. If there’s something they want, they go and get it. They pursue what makes them happy.
When do you plan on doing that for yourself?
So how do you do it?
You need to build a strong sense of self identity.
How? By dating yourself. Ask yourself questions that you would ask someone on a first date. What are your answers? These answers will not remain the same over time and they shouldn’t either. Here are some as a guide:
1. What do you like in general?
2. What do you dislike in general?
3. List all the things you like about yourself
4. List all the things you can improve about yourself
5. Where would you ideally want to be in 2 years?
6. What sort of a life do you wish you had right now?
Next step is continue dating yourself. Aim for one new experience a week. It doesn’t have to be major. It could be something simple such as a cooking a meal you’ve never made, solving crossword puzzles, trying to grow herbs, colouring books. With new experiences, you learn something about yourself, which allows you further build a connection with yourself. Literally date yourself.
Take care of yourself the way you would care for a partner. How do you want to be cared for? What makes you feel loved and appreciated? Show yourself the same things too.
