thinking about how helena and dick kind of mirror each other. they're a similar age, their families were killed tragically before their eyes–spurring on their life long quests for justice, they both can be very determined. the key difference between them is that dick operated as a vigilante with a pretty extensive support system from a young age while helena's is more limited requiring her more so to forge her own path.

i think the nightwing/huntress comic discusses this pretty well in regards to their respective relationships with the bat family. there's a sort of bat family in-group that dick is a part of and helena is not. that's probably because helena has had to find her way as a vigilante without the guidance of batman. so the conclusions she comes to about what must be done can be pretty different in a way that can create a rift between her and them.

the affects of the disparity in the level of support each of them has can also be seen with their respective relationships with teams. dick has the opportunity to create a team with his peers and so together they form the teen titans. meanwhile, helena ends up being manipulated multiple times into joining teams. the community dick has allows him to help create a team on his own, while helena's isolation leaves her more susceptible to being manipulated. helena is able to build more of a support system later on in her vigilante career with the birds of prey but ultimately their paths deeply shaped them both.

anyhoo heres some other doodles because i thought long and hard about this and wanted to draw out all of my ideas.

i tried thinking about everything in like. a human way. idk how else to describe it like. i took the logic and put it into realistic human people things. so this version of spamton NEO is basically just this version of regular spamton, but with a more flashy outfit (i spent like 10 minutes trying to translate the robot body into like. an actual outfit and even then i was still kinda stumped so i gave him a weird shirt with a big bowtie and shoe pants and called it a day. will probably rework eventually 😭) and high heels (to kind of simulate how in the game hes a lot taller i guess) and instead of his garbled ad-speech he just has a stutter.

my thoughts on itoshi rin and how his relationship with his brother has affected the way he has played football throughout the manga

to me it feels quite obvious that rin still cares about sae quite a bit. quite literally almost all of rin’s football career has been built around his brother, from the beginning of it to the u-20 match.

in the beginning, it started with rin thinking that sae looked cool and wanting to watch with his big brother play. then people realized he was actually pretty good at football himself, so he decided to start playing with sae because, “why wouldn’t playing football with your brother be fun?” this is when football was fun, it was mostly just hanging out with his big brother and eating ice cream together. we also don’t really know much about this time in rin’s life other than a few manga panels, so i don’t have much to say other than this is when got into football and he enjoyed it. i do feel like at first he mostly enjoyed it because he was playing with sae.

then, sae goes to spain, and this is when we first start to see changes in rin’s football. it’s in this stage that rin’s football both becomes about getting better and is when he first starts to enjoy it without sae. it becomes about getting good enough so that he can still walk with sae on the path to becoming the two best strikers in the world. it’s still enjoyable, but it’s mostly fun because he knows that sae is going to come back and they’re going to be great together. sae’s going to come back and they’ll both have gotten better and football will be even more enjoyable.

then sae actually comes back, and it’s apparent that all is not well. their confrontation happens and the football that rin had built up in the time that sae was away crumbled around him. football was no longer about playing with his brother, that had been made abundantly clear to him by sae himself. i imagine that it takes a bit of time for rin to decide what to do with himself after that. we just get a fade to black in the manga after rin and sae’s confrontation in the manga, but we do know that it was in winter. i don’t know how seasons in japan work or when football season is, but i imagine that having rin’s and isagi’s big life changing moments happen on the same day would be kind of unlikely (but who knows, this is a sports manga and the timeline is blurry).

the next change to his football is likely when he gets the letter to blue lock. this is when football becomes a tool to use in the goal of proving sae wrong. proving that he did deserve to be part of sae’s life, and that sae was in the wrong for saying what he did. football was now about making sae feel like rin did with the added weight of guilt. making sae feel guilty about how he treated rin when he returned from spain. blue lock is just a way for him to streamline that process. the facility gives him access to top trainers and training facilities, as well as the opportunities he needs to get back at sae. this football isn’t about enjoyment or happiness or anything that the football he played before was about. this football was about his anger and his need for revenge, at the same time it was also about his want for his older brother back. his want for his brother to love him like he used to, to wrap him up in his arms and take him out for ice cream and sit by the ocean with him. this football was football filled with grief over the fact that his relationship with his brother will never be the same because he is not good enough.

then the u-20 match happens, and this marks yet another change to rin’s football. this is when sae manages to fully cement himself as a world class jerk in both my mind and in rin’s. after this match rin is pissed off, like he is mad mad. he takes some of that anger out on isagi because he’s a) the one that sae praised, and b) the one who walked up to rin who was clearly spitting mad and tried to have a conversation. but after the u-20 match, this is when rin starts to play football for himself. this is when rin lets go of playing for sae altogether, and i am so excited to see what that looks like. this is rin accepting that if sae’s going to be a jerk to him for the rest of his life then he’s not going to let him run it anymore. this is rin not letting go of all the bullshit that he went through with sae, but accepting that it happened and kind of moving on.

of course, this is all from rin’s perspective. i’d like to see what sae thinks of what went down between the two of them, it’s likely much different than how rin views it.

at the time that i’m writing this post (ch 231 of the manga is latest chapter) we haven’t seen any of our paris x gen pals since they chose their team, so that means we haven’t seen rin in a while. i feel like rin’s new play style will be extremely interesting to see (especially from isagi’s pov, it’s like that boy can’t not wax poetry about rin), especially since pxg’s mentor is julian loki. since he’s in the same age range as all of blue lock it’ll be interesting to see how he handles the team.

and the u-20 match really good writing, in my opinion. it really expands on rin and sae’s relationship in way that hadn’t happened before and hasn’t happened since, at the time of this post, and that context is why i can even make this post.

my thoughts and theories on ep 5

starting with the things i did like, i think the animation + visuals are overall very consistent for the series so far. the tone of the episode was a bit more serious because, well... akutaro and the gang war and the growing tensions between characters.

we finally got see the full flashback of matakara and arajin's backstory and it was a nice surprise to see how matakara stood up for himself and arajin of course runs away (understandable) but i'm hoping in future episodes we get more on their pasts (with matakara's brother too. maybe the reason his brother is in juvie is because he did something bad to the bullies and he didn't tell/lied to matakara? this could be interesting later on) and how it affects the present and future character growth. I hope we also get to see the reason why arajin moved away as it’ll help us understand his character more (literally running away from circumstances. A lot of his character is running away and how he has to confront it) akutaro is a fun villain! a complete dramatic and horny menace. i'm so glad he got his face punched in. i wonder how he got ichiya (what influence does ichiya have over him/he have over ichiya?) and if he’ll continue to be the series’ big bad later on or if he’ll just be the antag for this arc.

the good thing about arajin being so indecisive about joining anyone is that we get to see how each gang operates. this time, we see the ng boys (and girls?? they have girls too) and how akutaro has everyone under his finger. he uses fear and threats to manipulate them into doing what he wants, forces them to do his dirty work. we also see how he got kicked out of minatokai and a bit of kenichiro and marito's battle in the background. i wonder how the blue majin will merge with matakara because it's foreshadowed heavily. (“no doubt those kicks are ichiya’s” and matakara’s fighting style revolves around them) right now the blue majin is with akutaro) i’m also dying to know senya’s motives and past with ichiya and how it could tie into the conflict between their person.

i feel like the gag of arajin and his *cough* rampant thinking with his dick is starting to wear on my nerves a bit, but i don't HATE him. i get that his character is supposed to be poking fun at that trope. i think what's interesting is that you could point out that male characters who are considered to be strong also happen to have lots of connections + affections (platonic or romantic) toward other men. arajin by contrast, rejects it in favour of chasing after women (maybe it’s what he thinks will prove his masculinity to others? or it's like. a distraction from his issues?)

maybe it’s not that deep, but it's something i wanted to point out anyway.

on the topic of arajin: my biggest worry is that while i DO have hope arajin's character development is on the way soon, i am concerned that they'll start it too late (like ep 10 which is unlikely but) and not give us enough time to fully sympathize or connect with his relationship towards matakara and the others around him. i understand he's supposed to be a selfish and unlikeable character, but i feel with like there's only so long you can stretch out the drama before it wears thin if you don’t expand on it; which is something have hope that they’ll do since there’s a lot of setup there.

i know arajin’s character is why most people are dropping the anime, but i'm hoping most people will at least be patient for the development. we're only at episode 5. (like sk8 for example had the conflict span from ep 7-10. this is a larger scale conflict so ofc it'd take longer) bucchigiri has a lot of potential, and i’m hoping they’ll stick the landing.

(i also need to see the fight between kenichiro and marito next ep ; i know it'll be awesome.) with the title of the next ep's title being "much much friendship! 'nira-reba'-lution 21!" i do hope we get to see much, much more in terms of friendships (a falling out maybe?) , arajin-related or otherwise. i'm excited to see where the anime goes next!

Been forgetting to use here because I’m using bluesky more shocking I know but god having Kikaider worms AGAIN and at some point I’m gonna need to go through the manga again just to compare everything in the anime even if it be very very long because really reading the manga in like a entire day because I was bored and brain rotted from my rewatch solidified the anime harder as not just one of my favorite animes but my favorite adaptation for a manga I think-

I need to read more manga in general though but wow they fucking cooked so hard which is why I’ll forever be conflicted if a new anime does end up happening with that one post I put awhile ago

I saw Swept Away today, catching it on the matinee of its final day. Wow. It was so beautiful and intense, and it made me all the more sad that the production got cut so short.

The whole cast was phenomenal. The dancing! The climbing of the ship rigging! The HARMONIES! The heart-wrenching performances! And you could tell by the end just how heavy this day was for them. The final moments hit extra hard today.

The stage production and choreography blew my mind! I'll be thinking about the shipwreck scene especially for a while.

And of course the (spoiler alert) cannibal sacrifice/self-sacrifice scene between Big Brother and Little Brother - I was clutching myself, the railing in front of me, anything I could the whole time. It was awful and beautiful.

Happy trails to the whole cast and crew! You delivered something spectacular, and I hope it finds new life after Broadway somewhere. But even if it doesn't - it was a magical moment, however brief, and I'm grateful we got to experience it.

decided i was impatient and reread the whole greed pair vs hig.an fight ( and the lawl.ess background before ) and forgot how unwell i am at the fact the last shakesperian quote lawl.ess makes for ages is " i loved ophelia. forty thousand brothers. could not, with all their quantity of love, make up my sum. " but instead of being able to ask "what wilt thou do for her" it's lich.t who speaks up and tells him to reach out for his ideals and wish for them, as if to answer that question.

then to be reminded of how this is the end by hig.an commenting a fight later after lich.t has once again turned the tables for their victory with a " to have a final one on one duel would not be hamlet " only for lawless to reply " yes. this is not hamlet. " because he is not hamlet anymore. the journey he will venture on will not be the same unhappy ending.

I caught up with Masters of the Air, and I don't know how to feel about it even though I've been waiting YEARS for it to happen. Technically, it's masterfully shot, but I'm not emotionally connecting to it the way I want to yet. :/
