After Isa's redemption in KH3, I'll never find it not funny as a huge fan of FFVIII that the fanon consensus is that the new "nemesis" of the Seasalt Trio or at least Roxas and Xion is Seifer.
I dunno how much of the KH fandom has played FFVIII, and in-universe it makes sense given Seifer is the "neighborhood bully" of Twilight Town. However, given what VIII players know about him, it's hilarious and cathartic to see these two kids either bonk him with copied claymores in response to him trying to intimidate them into giving him their ice cream money, curbstomp him at Struggle right after calling them "lamers" or "chicken wusses", or accidentally drop half-eaten popsicles on his face when, in his universe of origin, Seifer was a major war criminal who, among other things, dropped all sorts of horrible endgame monsters including actual malboros onto a hugely populated city (which like any VIII fan can tell you, malboros are already nope on a stick in general, but in VIII in particular they're excessively brutal).
Roxas and Xion are just delivering Seifer some belated karma from 1999 is all and I'm loving every second of it.

hiiiii i hope life is good! just wondering if you've read any good fics lately that you'd reccomend ? :~)
simply have not been reading v much fic the past year or two my peak fic-reading year was in 2022…however have enjoyed some r/s oneshots + a few drarry fics over the past few months!
crushed ice by sectoren @sectoren is a really fun r/s oneshot in which s keeps showing up 2 r’s part-time jobs…had me giggling & kicking my feet etc…
your hand in mine and other brief, annihilating intimacies by superloonyluna @superloonyluna is another r/s oneshot w absolutely beautiful writing in which s is a performer in a traveling theater troupe & r is their last minute stand-in for the leading man <3
revolvevlover by firethesound & zeitgeistic is a drarry fic that actually killed me…technically a oneshot as well but it’s 56k words so. harry is an assassin who gets assigned draco as a mark…ending made me wanna throw my phone at the wall 🤧
nor all that glisters by sweet_sorrow (sweet_s0rr0w? i can’t tell w the ao3 font…) @sweet-s0rr0w is another drarry fic in which draco starts taking felix felicis post-war during his house arrest 2 try and turn his life around 🤭
completely different fandom but read the end of the world by fernwithy a while back which was a fic abt haymitch’s hunger games & really liked it <3
have so many fics on my to-read list as well that i simply haven’t gotten around to yet…if anyone else has recs they’d like 2 share please feel free…

Prev post is why I can't fully embrace the "necromancers as a gender" "patriarchal order allegory" side of TLT analysis.
The patriarchy is bullshit based on bullshit. Necromancers have superpowers. Metaphor doesn't hold

I mean years ago I really hoped that we might get some coherent dalish lore in this game that actually treated them with some measure of respect, and I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe people were right and the weird handling of their culture and beliefs thus far was a setup that would pay off when the veil crumbles and shit goes down and we see more of both the dalish and tevinter, and then we'd get some cool deconstruction of both the dalish gods AND the maker/andraste.
but that was years ago and by roughly the third time they re-announced the game I was starting to suspect that development had passed out of the hands of anyone who would give a shit about lore and setting and story payoff long ago.
and based on what people are saying so far it looks like that's true.

It’s crazy to me how so much of the fantasy genre fandoms here on tumblr are just.. SJM. And not even that, it’s just acotar.
I know for a fact there are other series yall read and I want to talk to people about them. I wonder if people outside of tumblr are just scared to come here because not many people talk about books and instead just fight over the same 4 fae.
There used to be so many blogs doing book reviews, where did y’all go?
Just thinking… but hey, what are you guys currently reading?

On showing up for yourself as a writer
I've learned, since starting my writing journey a month or so ago (or at least picking writing back up again) that if you want to truly be a writer, you gotta show up for yourself. For your story. For your characters. For your dreams/goals. For your future, published self. You gotta give your story and characters a chance to live.
And no magic spell or writing advice from your favorite author will write that draft for you. EVERY AUTHOR SAYS THE SAME THING.
READ
WRITE
RINSE AND REPEAT
Now.......................
Write. That. Damn. Book

I think being a fan of InuYasha has awakened in me a craving for mythology series where it's always an adventure focusing on a human befriending/falling in love with a mythical person from the mythology. Doesn't matter what kind of media it is, if it's like InuYasha, I'm like "sign me up".
Like seriously, my favorite series aside from InuYasha are literally Kamisama Kiss, The Red Winter Trilogy, the Guild Codex: Demonized (not exactly mythology per se, but it's still a human x mythical person adventure series) and now I'm about to watch the Kdrama Tale of the Nine-Tails on Netflix. Literally InuYasha as a series has awakened in me a craving for the mythology fiction genre and I can't even be mad about it.

ngl truly drives me nuts in the DBH fandom when people will tear down HankCon for the truly dumbest reasons in existence (Hank sees Connor as his son because he, an older man, calls Connor "son", an extremely common term of endearment from older men to younger men, literally one time while he's dying, and, the infinitely dumber, Connor, an android designed as an adult, motion capture performed by then 31-year-old man Bryan Dechart, is a literal child!), but then put Reed900 up on some pedestal as the be-all-end-all of Android/Human relationships in that game, and it's like...
Yeah, obviously their relationship is "less toxic" or whatever bullshit you spew; it's entirely fanon! RK900 doesn't even have speaking lines; the personality you've invented for this character, and his relationship with Gavin, is 100% fanon; there is not a single lick of canon present in this ship.
So yes, of course it hits all the beats you like with no canon to make it messy; you invented the entire thing!!

Listen everyone has their own metric for what good writing is and isn’t but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t get me down a little to see one of my faves dragged through the mud by both haters and fans alike on a pretty much weekly basis
#yes this is about Salvatore#I don’t mean this to say you can’t dislike or hate his work because that’s valid too#I just mean that he’s become one of those writers where it’s okay and trendy to shit on him and he’s popular enough that it’s excused#I feel like there’s a lot of irl fans who crap on him because they inherently don’t like the over-the-top rule-of-cool style that is FR#and it’s okay to not be into that side of fantasy#but you aren’t the superior reader because you love GRRM-esque super serious grim dark content#also I haven’t personally met a long running series where I loved every single book or plot point#it’s pretty normal when you look at a 40 book series to find that some arcs/books are a bit better than others#and I feel like people jump on certain books and take it as ‘see? any talent he ever had has gone down the drain’#like my dude it’s okay if you didn’t love a few of the books just skip and move on#add to that he’s a prolific writer in general and I’m sure some books got more time and effort from him than others#it’s fine and normal and not a sign that he’s the worse ever ffs#also there’s a part of me that doesn’t like comparing authors working in shared worlds to authors writing totally independently#because some plot points are set by the publisher before pen ever hits the paper#and again you don’t have to think Salvatore or anyone is a good writer#but I always factor it in when I see plots that seem to come out of nowhere and the like#anyways that’s my rant lmao#constructive criticism of any writer is fine and I’m not knocking that before anyone gets their knickers twisted

I enjoy myself a fun fantasy Isekai as much as the next person but you know what I think would be interesting dare I say even a bit different;
Protag finds themselves whisked away to some other world. Magic Book, Portal however you want to do it (that isn't straight death)
And sure they find themselves mixed up in other peoples problems making friends, and is able to use whatever skills they had from their original life to like help out n stuff.
However through out all of it, Protag has one big motivation/ main goal. To get Home.
Not so much because they have some extraordinary life waiting for them, or even that they hate the world their in (although they could do without life threatening situations so often) but just the simple desire of wanting to go home / that they aren't supposed to be in this place. Or pretty sure they aren't.
Of course add on top of their budding friendships with others they've met and perhaps even gaining a growing attachment to this new world eventually growing to a conflict when finally faced with a potential lead on how to get back to where they came from. As they suddenly realize damn they're actually going to miss this place- or at least the friends they've made.
Sure they miss home but could they also leave this new life behind? Do they want to go home anymore
--
No trying to hide it a secret that they come from another world- not to say they go around just announcing it to everyone either but like you know also aren't gonna hide it unless necessary. Sort of an open secret in a way.
Friend group knows and doesn't care - perhaps sometimes even forgetting they aren't from said world and wouldn't know certain obvious or well known facts. Or you know are more vulnerable in a fight or something.
--
Genuinely off hand the closest I can think of really is Twisted Wonderland. Game or Book.
MC sure comes to adapt and more or less accept their new life in this new world. Not that they have much choice. They certainly want to get home/ starts off with them very not happy about suddenly just being taken from their home to this new world but you know they make friends with other students.
Totally magicless so ain't much use in a fight for the most part but like they aren't useless either.
Make a great group of friends and despite knowing they are magicless like they never really treat them as weak or anything of the sort- ngl sometimes I'm convinced they literally forget that MC/Yuu is magicless and can't do certain things asf
But as the story has gone on they've started bringing in moments where MC has doubts/ or implied at least with the choice dialogue options.
At the same time like the need/want to get home frequently does take a back seat considering well nothing they can do if they haven't gotten any new info or leads - questionable as to how helpful Head Mage Crowley is (like genuinely useless and forgetful not caring about Yuu's well being or is it a facade in trying to hide the truth and is actually doing as promised searching for away to get em home. I like to think maybe a bit of both. With all the other chaos going on at the school man probably hasn't had it as his top priority on things to deal with but also maybe finds it better just to make an excuses then admit that he hasn't gotten any leads and doesn't know how to return them yet)
Part of why I'm excited to see what they're gonna do with the anime.
-
Even if it's not a main plot point or driving force just in general would be neat to see the fact a character is from another place brought up more from their perspective. Do they miss home? Family? Friends? After all they've gone through if offered the chance would they ever want to return?
Maybe it's not even big stuff but just little things. A home cooked meal, visiting a favourite store or reading a book that they can't anymore. Or have their biggest worry be about who's gonna look after their pet.

I do need the lunar chronicles animated series to come out soon not even as a fan (even though I did really enjoy back when I read them) but because it is a perfect series to be adapted as an animated media and I need it to be successful so other ya book adaptors realize how much potential animation has for their purposes….

crazy to me that this person called the mortal instruments published harry potter fanfic and then in replies to a comment clarifies that they know it’s not actually published harry potter fanfiction. taking inspiration and elements from a fanfiction you wrote and dropping them into an original work you created is not “published fanfiction” babe you sound fucking ridiculous. you cannot discount the care and thought and work cassandra clare has put into the shadowhunter universe for almost 20 years as “just harry potter fanfiction” because you heard some idiot that doesn’t know how genre works say it five years ago. “steles are just wands it’s hp fanfic!” what are you talking about… steles are actually not wands and they serve a whole other purpose than wands. also wands we’re not invented by jkr for harry potter. you know that right. it’s important to me that you know that. i’m not trying to defend everything cassandra has ever done and say she didn’t take a lot from her harry potter fanfic and put it in her books, i know she did that, i know all about her problematic harry potter fanfictions. i’m saying it’s so fucking rude and disrespectful to try to write off all of the original work she’s done and the expansive universe she created as fanfiction. no it’s not, you will just make up reasons to discredit her because you think she’s hashtag problematic and deserves it. and baby i stand with my problematic wife. she only did some of that!!! you can’t say she’s a freak with an incest fetish when that’s only a subplot in ONE book series she wrote and the only character she was actually an incestuous weirdo was the bad guy. yeah it was WEIRD that clary and jace thought they were siblings for two books. WE THE AUDIENCE knew they weren’t. ok it wasn’t explicit that we were supposed to know they weren’t but anyone with sense would read the end of city of bones and go “well that’s not true lol” and even if you didn’t she only wrote that “twist” because it was 2006 and she was trying to be edgy and challenge people’s perceptions. she would never do that now be serious. i know she wrote weird ass fanfiction, she’s a weirdo and it’s fanfiction and she (and society) was stupider back then and she would not do any of that now. and trying to use a couple semi-related things about her life before she was a famous published author to try to make her original work look lesser, is insane. also half the things people point at when trying to “prove” tmi is harry potter fanfic are just like. public domain concepts and character archetypes. because harry potter fans aren’t actually fans of the fantasy genre and don’t understand that 70% of the “world” jkr created is just. public domain fantasy concepts and character archetypes. remember the time my sister (harry potter fan. not a fantasy genre fan) found out about griffins (mythical creature that has existed in the genre for like. centuries) and she thought the concept of a griffin was taken from harry potter’s hippogriff. i’m never letting her live that down btw i lost like. 40% of my respect for her that day. and the context in which she found out about griffins makes her look even worse. we don’t have to get into it. anyway. i just can’t stand it when people say stupid stuff about cassandra clare because they’re purposefully looking at her and her body of work with the most bad faith perspective imaginable. also if you’re a harry potter fan i don’t think you can really justify hating cassandra clare because she’s “problematic”. like ok…. look inside.
