If you have spent some time in the hilly areas of North-East India, you might have stumbled upon an engineering marvel—crafted entirely from bamboo. This isn't just any setup; it's a bamboo drip irrigation system.

The bamboo drip irrigation system is based on gravity and the steep slopes facilitate in implementing it. Water from an uphill source is tapped and brought to the plantation by a main bamboo channel. Usually these water sources are far off from the plantations and the main bamboo channel runs hundreds of meters — in some cases even few kilometers.

Sometimes water is diverted to distant houses for domestic use.

I created this two layer screen print for Resting Safe, a project of Right to Survive. "Resting Safe brings together houseless community leaders and activist-researchers to investigate and intervene in environmental hazards in the places where houseless people are building homes and communities." That assuring look of a Doctor At one moment or another, we must have been caught up in a health situation that is characterized by uncertainty and anxiety. The anxiety often heightens when one is waiting for lab results and/or the doctor's interpretation. This was our state at the Open Dreams Centre in Yaounde, when the novel corona virus was first detected in passengers flying into Cameroon. As the boarders of the country and schools got shut down, it was as though the world was shutting down on. Dr. Houatchaing Armelle was the one with that assuring look. She took the podium at the Open Dreams Center on a number of occasions, (including a day we had visiting officials from the US Embassy Yaounde), to professionally explain the nature of the virus to the Open Dreams community and how they could stay safe from the virus. This was enough support to keep morals high abeit the odds. Today she is proudly part of the Erasmus Mundus Program, focusing in nanomedicine for drugs delivery. The program takes place among four consortium universities; The University of Paris (the merger of Paris Descartes and Paris Diderot universities), The University of Angers, The University of Pavia (Italy) and the University of Patras in Greece. It is a two year program (4 semesters with a 3 month internship in a Research Laboratory and a 6 month internship in a pharmaceutical industry, with focus on the latest drug formulation technology to enhance drugs delivery and to tackle diseases such as cancer, etc; the use of mRNA to produce vaccines or therapeutic agents). Before her departure to France, she served as the Head of the standardization, control and supply chain management at health technology department of the Ministry of public health.
