So I started my new job last week, and I'm already in love. Like, I've always been a pretty solid hand at officey/admin type work, so I was confidant that would be a decent fit but just

It feels so GOOD to be working for a place that's actively making a positive difference in the world? Like I'm still getting my sea legs and learning all our systems, but within my first week I've sent off letters to help people get their gender markers changed on their birth certificates, I helped someone connect with a trans-friendly dermatologist to help them with issues they were having with their skin after starting HRT, and coordinated sending out reminder emails for the council of elders that includes people who helped found my city's first pride events in 1975!!!

I'm gonna get business cards that say they/them on them! Everyone has been so good about pronouns! I told my story about how the social security office marked me as dead instead of changing my name when my mom remarried, and someone in the meeting made the funniest joke of like "DAMN, TALK ABOUT DEAD NAMING!" a;lskfdj

So yeah I'm like. I've gone from being neutral to patently miserable about work to INCREDIBLY FULFILLED.

Canine conditioning class went well. Mandana already knew the moves but it was still a nice little workout.

The main reason we went is to help her get used to being around other dogs. Some dogs find it easier to manage their excitement when they are moving and others (like Mandana) do better when they are still. So constantly moving for an hour in the same room as other people exercising their dogs is a real challenge for her.

She did bark a few times but she was easy to get back on task and the class is made up of a bunch of happy potatoes half of which are deaf so they didn’t care. It was perfect.

She’s a quick learner we just never had the opportunity to work with other dogs. Since her excitement is mostly based out of a desire to play with them I’m sure she will realize quickly that hanging out in their vicinity can be just as fun.

It was physically grueling for me but the Training Center is very accommodating. They got me a chair and helped me move our water bowl and stuff. They didn’t mind that she barked a couple times and even used her as an example on how to do some of the moves. We all agree that she just lacks experience with dogs so I’ll definitely be taking advantage of this environment as often as possible.
