Greetings and Salutations!
Ash and Steph here with exciting news!
We have changed “HHR Community Outreach” to “Cinnamon Broom Bountiful Hearth”! We are working behind the scenes to create a better organized nonprofit so we can better help our community.
“Community Outreach” felt too corporate to us and we wanted a name to reflect more on our beliefs and how we feel about helping people.
What Our Name Means To Us:
🧹 Cinnamon Brooms have been used all through history to ward off negative energy and to promote a more positive atmosphere.
🌾 Bountiful is what we hope our hearts are and what we want our nonprofit to be so we can help others as much as possible.
🪵 Hearth is a fireplace but for more than just burning wood. It is the heart of the home. Where food is cooked, sometimes clothes are washed, and where families gather to spend time together and to reconnect after a long day or a long time apart. So for us, it connects to cleansing a space, starting over, reconnecting, and making new memories.
We hope to be a better nonprofit for families, friends, and the community as a whole.
We love you and we appreciate all the support you all have given us through these last few years. It hasn’t been easy but every lesson has been a blessing. We hope for many more years of helping others, and sharing love, joy, and kindness.
❤️Thank you!❤️

We Need Your Support Now More Than Ever
Hello friends.
We are LGBTIQ refugees from East Africa, and we are facing unimaginable challenges in the refugee camps where we have been displaced. Every day, we struggle to survive in hostile environments filled with homophobia and persecution. Our lives are constantly at risk, and we need your help to make it through these difficult times.
Despite the challenges, we have some good news to share! The first group of LGBTIQ refugees from our community is finally heading to Canada. This is a huge milestone for us, and it wouldn't have been possible without your incredible support. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has stood by us, and we ask that you continue to support us in whatever way you can.
But we still have a long way to go. Many of us remain in these camps, living in fear and uncertainty. We are asking, kindly, for your donations to our fundraiser. Every penny counts—whether it’s for food, medication, or shelter, your contribution helps us survive another day.
Even though it's difficult to keep asking, we can’t stop. Our lives and futures depend on your generosity. Please, if you can, donate to our cause. Together, we can create a safer future for our community.
Thank you for your continued support, and let’s keep moving forward.
Other ways to Donate.⬇️
PayPal: [email protected]
With gratitude,
Phill and the LGBTIQ refugee community

what is always very telling to me is seeing leftists downplay domestic issues that contribute to the very real suffering of those around them as a moral outrage of "how dare you care about the issues that affect you and not about the global thing you need to be outraged about" like...it's easy to say that caring about overpriced groceries over genocide happening elsewhere means people are morally bankrupt when you're not the one literally starving because you can't afford food
#begging you all to read micro activists and also understand there are many many bad things happening and we can all only do so much#please volunteer at a local nonprofit and talk to people in your community#and maybe then you will see 'worried abt grocery prices' is not a 'first world problem'#like truly how fucking privileged and classist do you have to be to think like that

I don't normally post a lot about my work for the sake of my privacy since I'm not anonymous online anymore, but I've complained to my friends about this in varying levels of detail over the last few weeks, so here goes.
I've worked in the nonprofit world for eight years now. Longer than some, shorter than many. I got into this right out of grad school in 2016.
I've learned a lot over the years, and what has become increasingly clear to me over the last two years is that relationships are key. They are integral in allowing us to best serve the people we serve. Relationships are so. important.
The relationships that we have with the people we serve in our communities
The relationships that we have with other people in the community who are working, informally or formally, to serve those populations
The relationships with our colleagues at other nonprofits
The relationships with our own colleagues
Our work is about service. A big part of it is also relationship management.
Nurturing relationships on all those levels and building trust will take you so far. It's enriching in so many ways. Good relationships will help you serve the community, and it will help you advance your own career.
Over the past several months and several weeks and several days, I've seen some people squander relationships and trust within the community that took years to build. I've seen people burn professional relationships with their actions and behavior. When people lose trust in you, they are no longer willing to go out of their way to give you the benefit of the doubt, or to invest the extra time and energy in you to help you learn or grow.
Take your relationships seriously -- follow through with what you say you're going to do, and most importantly, communicate with respect and kindness. Being rude in the workplace can have huge informal consequences, even if you never get formally called out by a supervisor for it.
#for other nonprofit professionals#my husband works in a completely different field#and the norms and best practices for relationships and communication are very different

Let's get some good shit done: 8/2/23
In the name of encouraging each other, supporting each other, and reminding us all how many ways there are to help - how much each of us can make a difference -
Reply or comment (or add in the tags if you'd really prefer) with something you did recently to help the environment, your community, or people who need it. Big or small.
Here's my version:
I applied to volunteer for a local nonprofit I've known for a while, which teaches shame-free, comprehensive sex ed classes (also queer and trans affirming!) and workshops to schools and home school groups
I started applying to volunteer for the Red Cross (need some extra paperwork to finish the app, since they deal with health info)
This was a bit less recent, but I convinced my parents to start a little compost bin in the kitchen now that our city has finally started collecting composting in green bins. And then dragged my mom out to find a bin that met her high aesthetic standards lol
I'm planning to make this a regular thing (probably weekly) unless this totally flops, so let me know if you'd want that!
#community#mutual aid#nonprofit#volunteer work#ask#me#question#good news#hope#hope posting#is there a more specific tag I should be using for stuff like this?? idk lol

PLEASE SHARE! I got scammed and lost everything!
Hey lovelies!
I'm Selene, I'm 25 years old and I'm from Venice, Italy. I recently got scammed and lost ALL my money. I'm also indebted to my boyfriend and he needs that money, he's super angry and the last thing I want is to lose him. He's literally the only beautiful thing that has ever happened to my life.
Who am I? Again, I'm Sel, I'm a disabled girl with poor mental health (I tempted suicide three times and lately that's the only thing I can think about), I was diagnosed with MS (multiple sclerosis) when I was 17 (like, the only 10% of the entire population can be this lucky), and I have a sh*tty family situation. I live with my broke mother who can't barely survive on her own and I tried to trust my scammer because I wanted to help her and thank her for everything she does and has done for me till the present day.
But yeah…I lost everything. I owe my boyfriend around € 3.000,00 and he wants it today, and I lost around € 15.000,00. I know, I've been significantly stupid, I was desperate to help my mother and now I have nothing left.
Please, please, please help me! I don't know what to do anymore, I'm job seeking but with my health condition is a little difficult to find something.
My paypal link is the following (please don't mind the nickname, I don't know how to change it) >>> https://paypal.me/darklolitadoll?country.x=IT&locale.x=it_IT
Hope I can have your help and support, guys, I don't want to believe that in the world there are only evil people!

Logged onto cohost to find it read-only as of the start of this month and set to shut down by the end of this year. I'm not particularly surprised, but it is saddening. Massive props to the devs for doing all they could-- It felt like a lovely place, while it lasted.
#scrawny rambles#back to vagabond bindling i go!! ah#i can't really stand to be on tumblr anymore#love the people in my circle you guys are great#but the way the same discourses make their way around this site in a manner that always makes me feel worse is tiring#it's unhelpful and steals my peace and time#and like! that's a shame! because tumblr is in this sweet spot of being large enough to have spontaneous community#while also still being small enough that it doesn't feel mainstream. i don't mean that in a hipster way i mean that in a safe way#i can be a freak little weirdo in peace !!! huzzah !!!#but i know this too will end#whether it's next year or somehow another ten down the road#social media that doesn't seek to squeeze every drop of monetisation from its users in unprofitable#and the things that make a social media profitable make it worse#maybe one day we can hope for sturdy nonprofit platforms#but who knows how feasible that is

Excerpt:
Edel said the archives were founded because she and members of a group called the Gay Academic Union, which worked to make academia more accepting of LGBTQ people in the ‘70s, began talking about how difficult it was to find reliable information about lesbian history.
“A few of us said, ‘Hey, why don’t we just start collecting our history? We’re the ones who best know what we need, what we want. Why let other people do that for us, because they’ll control our history?’” recalled Edel, who now splits her time between New Jersey and Arizona with her partner. “We were all people who really knew that our history was disappearing too quickly.”
[...]
The Lesbian Herstory Archives hosts a variety of events, such as a weekly “Lez Craft!” night on Thursdays. For its 50th anniversary, the organization is hosting a “Dyke Prom” in May at a loft in Brooklyn, though Edel noted that the event is already sold out.
When asked about goals for the next 50 years, she said the archives have outgrown the Brooklyn space and will need to move soon.
“Fifty years is too hard to say,” Edel said. “We leave that in the hands of the next generation. I certainly won’t be around, and I’m just hoping that it still will be mission-driven so that we reflect the amazing complexity of our communities.” /endquote

Kindly Help in this case: Major car accident and struggling
https://gofund.me/7a379391
Hi. My name is Rayne. I live in Perth, Australia, and am a single mum to four beautiful children. Life is hard as it is but things just got so much harder. https://gofund.me/7a379391
I was involved in a very serious, high-impact car accident. I have been on pain medication since the accident. My back spasms constantly, and I cannot move my head. It is awful. Life has changed a lot in a very short time. I have tried to return to work but I end up dizzy, in pain and unable to walk the next day. https://gofund.me/7a379391
The cost of repairs is 20K and the cost of medical expenses is at 5K, at this stage. I need the car to get back to work ASAP. I am very fortunate that my workplace will switch my role until I am well again. I am therefore asking for help, which I have never done since I moved out of home at the age of 14.
Rayne and her 4 little munchkins. (Who are not so little anymore.)

sometimes my job is like. i am being hunted for sport. if i mess one thing up, i will die. everyone here hates me and is refusing to even be civil with me and that's affecting my workload.
and then other times i finish all my work for the day at 10 AM and can just dick around and get paid $30 an hour to do it.
#i made a post a while back about my first office job about how easy it was in comparison to retail or fast food or hell even being a tutor#and someone in the replies pointed out how office jobs can also suck and be soul crushing in their own ways#i never responded to that person bc tbh i saw it like two days later and felt awkward about responding#and to that person: you are so right. but also i still prefer this. it's awful. it's horrible. but if i have to pick a poison.#then i'll pick this#but you were sooooo right#anyways. why does everyone act like everything is life or death at my nonprofit that encourages college students to do community service
