Scaffolding
Scaffolding is a temporary structure that supports construction workers and allows them to work at height. It is commonly used on skyscrapers and other tall buildings, but it also is important for maintenance work such as painting and cleaning windows. Depending on the type of building, scaffolding may be made from wood or steel. It is generally erected by trained and licensed erectors, who have the necessary knowledge of the building’s construction and safety standards. The scaffolding also must be properly maintained to reduce the risk of falling debris and other hazards.
NEMO GROUP UK LIMITED provides expert scaffolding services for both residential and commercial properties in Greater London. The company is a highly respected property maintenance and repair company with over 4,500 five-star reviews on Trustpilot and offers 24/7 emergency maintenance. Among its services, the company specialises in lock repairs and replacement services, plumbing, gas & heating, electrics, glazing, pest control, and drainage services.
One of the most common causes of scaffolding accidents is poor construction. This can include using unsuitable materials for the job or ignoring construction and safety standards. Additionally, weather can make working at height dangerous. Rain or snow can cause planks to slip, and temperature changes can affect the structural integrity of the scaffolding. Another significant cause of scaffolding accidents is a lack of proper training. Workers must be trained in the specific types of scaffolding they use, and should receive ongoing training to prevent unsafe practices.
Teachers use a teaching technique called scaffolding to help students understand new lessons and concepts. The strategy involves offering lessons in distinct segments and gradually reducing the support as students master the material. This approach can be used at any age level, and it can benefit students of all abilities. It is especially helpful for students with learning disabilities, as it helps them comprehend new concepts without overwhelming them.

Choosing the right painters can significantly impact the outcome when it comes to enhancing the aesthetics of your living or working space in London. Whether you're looking to refresh the interior walls of your home or give your business premises a facelift, professional painters in London offer expertise and quality craftsmanship to achieve your desired look. Here’s everything you need to know about finding reliable painters in this vibrant city.
Why Choose Professional Painters London?
Hiring professional painters in London brings several advantages that go beyond what DIY projects or amateur painters can achieve:
Expertise and Experience
Professional painters in London bring years of experience and expertise to the table. They are skilled in various painting techniques and understand the nuances of different surfaces and materials. This ensures a high-quality finish that enhances the overall appeal of your property.
Quality Assurance
Using professional painters guarantees the use of high-quality materials and paints. They have access to top-notch products that ensure durability and a flawless finish. This quality assurance means your investment in painting services will last longer and maintain its appearance over time.
Time and Cost Efficiency
While it might seem cost-effective to tackle painting projects yourself, the time and effort required can often outweigh the initial savings. Professional painters work efficiently, adhering to timelines and minimizing disruptions to their daily life. Moreover, they can often procure better-quality materials, saving you money in the long run.
Safety and Compliance
Painting can involve working at heights or with hazardous materials. Professional painters are trained in safety protocols and ensure compliance with local regulations. This reduces risks to themselves, your property, and anyone else involved in the project.
How to Find Reliable Painters in London?
Finding trustworthy painters in London involves a systematic approach to ensure you hire professionals who meet your expectations and deliver quality results:
Research and Recommendations
Start your search by researching local painting companies online and seeking recommendations from friends, family, or colleagues who have recently had painting work done. Personal referrals can provide valuable insights into a painter’s reliability and craftsmanship.
Check Credentials
Verify that the painters you are considering are licensed and insured. A legitimate painting company will have the credentials to protect you from liability in case of accidents or damages during the project.
Portfolio and Reviews
Review potential painters' portfolios to gauge their work's quality and determine if their style aligns with your vision. Online reviews and testimonials from past clients offer unbiased feedback on their professionalism and customer satisfaction.
Obtain Detailed Quotes
Contact several painters in London to request detailed quotes for your project. Compare not only the cost but also the scope of work, materials used, and estimated timeline. A transparent quote reflects a painter's professionalism and commitment to delivering as promised.
Communication and Understanding
Effective communication is crucial for a successful painting project. Ensure that the painters understand your requirements and preferences clearly before work begins. Clear expectations from the outset help prevent misunderstandings and ensure satisfaction with the final results.

Quality of Materials

Customer References
Request references from past clients or ask to see completed projects in person. A reputable painter will gladly provide references to showcase their workmanship and customer satisfaction.
Contract and Warranty
Review the contract terms carefully before signing. Ensure it includes details such as project scope, timelines, payment schedules, and warranties on both workmanship and materials used. A written agreement protects both parties and ensures clarity throughout the project.

Title: Basket of Flowers
Date: c. 1740s and 1751
Media: Soft- and hard-paste porcelain, silk, embossed fabric (19th century), and gilt-bronze
Tumblr media
The flowers in this basket include delicate porcelain replicas of carnations, ranunculus, tulips, lilies, cornflowers, convolvulus, orange blossoms, and lilies of the valley made by the Vincennes factory. Porcelain flowers were this factory’s first commercial success, and it employed forty-five women and girls to paint, assemble, and mount the flowers for use in baskets, vases, candelabra, chandeliers, and clock cases. Flowers were sometimes scented, adding to the luxurious experience of admiring a bouquet. Stems were usually made of painted metal, and leaves of either metal or silk. The basket was made by the Meissen factory and likely exported to the Parisian dealer Lazare Duvaux, who filled it with the flowers and mounted it in gilt-bronze. Duvaux sold several similar bouquets to his wealthy clients. This one probably cost around 800 livres, equivalent to eight- month’s salary for a highly paid porcelain painter. J. Pierpont Morgan bought this ensemble in 1900 for $500 and displayed it under a glass dome in his London townhouse. It entered the museum’s collection in 1917.

Happy Birthday Scottish actor Rory McCann born 24th April 1969 in Glasgow.
Six foot six inches tall, with brown eyes and dark hair, Rory McCann began his working life at the top - as a painter on the Forth Bridge. He came to notice in a television commercial for Scotts' Porage Oats, in which he appeared as a scantily-clad hunk in a vest and kilt and little else wandering snowbound streets but warmed by the inner glow of the porage. He claims that as a consequence he was often approached by people demanding that he "lift his kilt", I can quite believe that as who out there among us has never had that asked of us?
In 2002 he was seen in the TV comedy-drama 'The Book Group' playing a wheelchair-bound lifeguard, a part for which he won a Scottish BAFTA award for the best television performance of 2002. Since then he has taken television roles as Peter the Great and a priest in 'Shameless'. He made his Hollywood debut in Oliver Stone's 'Alexander'. Rory has never been in Taggart but did appear in another well known Scottish show, Monarch of the Glen.
Of course the role he is most famous for is, apart from the porage ads, that of Sandor "The Hound" Clegane in the popular Game of Thrones.
Film role have included, Beowulf & Grendel, Hot Fuzz and xXx: Return of Xander Cage
Rory used to be the frontman of a defunct band called Thundersoup in the early 90s. In 2017 he made a musical appearance as the drummer of Texas, a Scottish rock band, in their music video of Tell That Girl. He also plays the piano, banjo, guitar, and Mandolin.
Rory divides his time between homes in London and Glencoe, eh hates technology and loves being cut off and is known for living a solitary, transient lifestyle, he describes himself as such "I'm a man's man. I go out climbing and live outdoors." He used to solo rock climb and broke multiple bones in a near-fatal rock climbing accident in Yorkshire when he was 21. And ladies he is single, he says "I don't have a mortgage, I don't have a wife and I don't have kids, so I'm quite happy bumbling along."
I have found hat he mentioned a wife to someone in a bar in England last year, saying she set up his social media account as he wasn'ttechnically minded. Rory is normally quite a private person and I can find no evidence that he is actualy married, so who knows!
In 2019 Rory was seen in the Jumanji movie with fellow Scot Karen Gillan. In 2022 he became the narrator of the ITV1 series DNA Journey., We last saw him in the film Jackdaw a british action thriller set in North East England. He has a couple of projects ready for release, The Damned set in Iceland, and voice in a new animated mini series Knuckles, based on the video game Sonic the Hedgehog.

Brett Whiteley, Self Portrait, One of a Dozen Glimpses’, 1983, etching and aquatint from Home’s 2019 ‘The Portrait’ exhibition.
Brett Whiteley (1939 – 1992) is one of Australia’s most celebrated artists. He won the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman prizes several times, and his artistic career was bolstered by his celebrity status in Australia and abroad.
Whiteley started working as a commercial artist in 1956, began life-drawing classes at the Julian Ashton Art School and joined John Santry’s sketch club where he became friends with Australian landscape painter Lloyd Rees, who was a strong influence. On weekends Whiteley painted around the towns of Bathurst, Hill End and Sofala, producing works such as Sofala 1958. In 1959 he was awarded the Italian Government Travelling Art Scholarship, which was judged by Australian artist Russell Drysdale at the Art Gallery of NSW. Whiteley remained in Europe for the next decade, exhibiting his work regularly in group exhibitions in London, Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin, establishing an international reputation. He also lived in the USA, staying at New York’s Chelsea Hotel where he socialized with celebrities including musicians Janis Joplin and Bob Dylan.
Returning to Sydney in 1969, Whiteley moved to Lavender Bay and became involved in the Yellow House artists’ collective in Kings Cross. His work became highly collectable; in particular his Matisse influenced large-scale interiors and landscapes. In 1976 he won both the Archibald Prize for portraiture and the Sulman Prize for genre painting. The following year, he was awarded the Wynne Prize for landscape. He won all three prizes in 1978 (the first artist to do so) and the Wynne a third time in 1984. In 1991 he was awarded an Order of Australia.
Brett Whiteley died in Thirroul on the New South Wales south coast in 1992. His last studio and home in Sydney’s Surry Hills is now a museum managed by the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Image courtesy of Badger & Fox Gallery © Wendy Whiteley

ROCK’N’ROLL PREVIEW 2008! - Coldplay [ROCKIN'ON (May 2008)]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The big release that will determine the fate of UK rock in 2008! Can Coldplay keep winning?
Perhaps the biggest release of the year, both commercially and in terms of buzz, on the UK and US rock scene in 2008 is Coldplay's first new album in three years.
Coldplay's debut album Parachutes (2000) won over the UK, their second album A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002) was their big breakthrough in the US, and their last album X&Y (2005), which sold 12 million copies worldwide, finally ignited the band's fire here in Japan. There is no doubt that they are "the most successful UK band of the 2000s", and their new album is expected to live up to that title with huge success and critical acclaim. It is, metaphorically speaking, the story of U2's flight from local Irish heroes to a global band in the 1980s. The fact that Brian Eno, who produced U2's Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby, was commissioned to produce Coldplay's new album is also a symbolic tag-team. Chris (Vo) said in an interview mid-production. "Up until eight months ago we were finding it difficult. We were in a position where we were very big artists, but we didn't feel like our music was that good. So the last few months were just a series of taking ourselves out of our shackles. We have a lot to prove and a lot to challenge ourselves with."
Coldplay are recording the new album in Spain and at their own private studio in North London. The songs are already in the works, and information is slowly starting to leak out on their official blog, the UK's NME and Rolling Stone magazine. The new songs being discussed at the moment are as follows. However, it is still undecided how many of these songs will actually be included on the new album.
42 YES DEATH AND ALL HIS FRIENDS LIFE IN TECHNICOLOUR CHINESE SLEEP CHANT STRAWBERRY SWING REIGN OF LOVE LOVER IN JAPAN MY FEET DON'T TOUCH THE GROUND FAMOUS OLD PAINTERS GLASS OF WATER LOST! CEMETERIES OF LONDON VIOLET HILL POPPY FIELDS LEFTRIGHTLEFTRIGHTLEFT RAINY DAY PROSPEKT'S MARCH
Jonny (G) says: "I feel like the three albums from 'Parachutes' to 'X&Y' were a trilogy. And we've done that now. So we want to do something different with the next album." His statement is backed up by the bold introduction of distorted guitars and percussion in the sound-making of the new songs, is quite different from the "Coldplay-like" style symbolised by, for example, "Clocks" or "Speed of Sound.", and rumoured to be quite different. The lyrics are also said to be terribly dark, with themes of death and loneliness. "Brian [Eno] opened everything up for us. He made us realise that it's okay to be influenced by something other than Radiohead" (Chris).
However, as mentioned at the beginning of this article, Coldplay's new album should not end up being a 'self-indulgent' work that specialises in experimentation and innovation, and their work will only be recognised when experimentation and innovation are combined with universality on a higher level. The stage is already set for Coldplay to fight in such a tough place.
The release of Coldplay's new album is definitely expected in June. Eight years after their first appearance at Summer Sonic 2000, in a dimly lit junior high school gymnasium in Fujikyu Highland, they will play to 40,000 people at Chiba Marine Stadium this year. It's not often that such a monumental event occurs in the history of UK rock in the 2000s. (Shino Kokawa)
Translator's Note: I thought that this particular magazine wasn't giving me much value for the money that I bought for it in terms of content, even including the sample CD included that was still sealed in its plastic packet. But then I found that it has still more to give...

On July 24, 1860 was born in the town of Ivancice, Moravia (today's region of Czech Republic), Alphonse Mucha, a Moravian painter, illustrator and graphic artist
👉 Alphonse Mucha: La Primevere & La Plume
Art Nouveau, 1899, Alfons Mucha - 'La Primevere' ('The Primrose', left) and 'La Plume' ('The Feather', right) - These symbolic figures, complete with Mucha's customary aureoles around their heads and filigree diadems in their hair, comprise one of his best decorative panel sets.

👉 The master of the Art Nouveau movement, Alphonse Mucha created what we now consider to be the Art Nouveau style.
Borne out of a period where mass-produced good were becoming increasingly common but were also increasingly ugly, Mucha's approach made beautiful art images available cheaply.
This was intended to break down the invisible lines between the elite and the public and art and commerce. Much of Mucha's work, including this piece, was used commercially to advertise everything from cigarette papers to biscuits to liquor bottles.
His intricate decorations blended in with his drawings to create something stylishly unique.
This image was created in 1899 as part of a set of two lithographic panels eventually called 'Primrose and Feather.' The title harks back to a story written by the Brothers Grimm in 1807.
In the story the eponymous two sisters suffer the loss of their father and both are left grieving. One of the two- Feather- rejects numerous suitors and then runs away to the forest to forget her troubles.
She gets lost there, then encounters a sorcerer who turns her into a white swan.
After time has passed her sister Primrose goes to save her from this plight, eventually using a net to capture the sorcerer disguised as a black swan and thus freeing her sibling from her plight.
Mucha's 'Feather' reflects this story, with the still whiteness of the female depicted creating a distant sensuality, just as the story tells of a distant and unobtainable woman.
The woman's bouquet of foliage and a feather is another clue to her story, although told in a typical Mucha style. This image was also used in posters advertising the J Royer printing company -

The Supremes
They were not only the most commercially successful female group of the '60s but among the top 5 pop/rock/soul acts of that decade. Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, and Florence Ballard had a mature, glamorous demeanor that appealed equally to teens and adults. Beautiful, musically versatile, and unique, the original Supremes were America's sweethearts.

The Designers
London's fashion sector existed until the 1960s in the shadow of the renowned Parisian couturiers. Paris served as the centre of global fashion, specialising in tailored clothing for a fantastically wealthy, elite group of women. But all of a sudden, as the youth market expanded, London started to lead the pace.
Thanks to a handful of up-and-coming young designers trained in the couture tradition, Paris has maintained its edge. Fashion firms like Saint Laurent, Cardin, and Courrèges discovered how to appeal to younger customers. They established ready-to-wear shops and concessions in department stores and produced "space age" clothing that was quickly imitated on the high street.
Tumblr media
The youth market was enormous in the US, and department stores made millions by importing London fashions. But retailers also recognised the boutique's potential. Local stores that catered to affluent customers by selling unique, cutting-edge designs thrived, notably in New York.

Andrè Courrèges
André Courrèges
The French designer is best known for introducing the revolutionary space look- featuring white boots, goggles and boxy dresses designed in futuristic metallic shades, high shine fabrics such as PVC. His look was a blend of avant-garde geometry with sports classic driven by the youth culture.
Tumblr media
Pierre Cardin
Became famous for his brightly colored mini dresses. At the time his garments were "avant-garde" he like other designers at the time was heavily influenced by “Age" movement. His design style is mainly geometric shapes and colours.

Paco Rabanne
The Spanish born designer made a name for himself in the 1960s with his space-age inspired fashions. He used materials such as metal, aluminum, plastic, plexi glass and even fiber optics. He was the first fashion designer to use black models in a catwalk show. As a result, he was almost thrown out of the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, the governing body of Parisienne fashion.

Givenchy
Responsible for the iconic little black dress that is essential to every woman's wardrobe and dressing the most elegant ladies of the time such as Audrey Hepburn, U.S. first lady Jacqueline Kennedy, Princess Grace of Monaco; Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor and socialite Babe Paley.

Yves Saint Laurent
Shift dresses and pea coats became YSL trademark styles. In 1965, colour blocking made its entrance in the world of fashion, when Yves Saint-Laurent introduced the colour block dress, inspired by the works of the famous painter, Piet Mondria.
Tumblr media
Emilio Pucci
Is best known for colorful psychedelic prints, especially for headscarves and dresses. In 1962 the world lost screen siren Marilyn Monroe. It's believed that she was buried in one of his dresses. Monroe was a huge fan of his work which can be clarified by the volume of Pucci garments in her personal collection displayed at Christies in 1999 prior to auction. Although an already established designer, Pucci saw an increase in sales in the sixties which he attributed to Miss Monroe and her popularity.

The Birth of the Hippie
(1960-70s)
Originally used to designate beatniks who had settled in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury neighbourhood, the word hipple is derived from the hipster. The hippies sought for alternate lifestyles. The majority of hippies cherished independence, nature, closeness, peace, generosity, and spirituality.
Tumblr media
Nudity was another expression of freedom that hippies used to set themselves apart from society's norms. They frequently stayed in parks or set up camp in the woods, discarding their belongings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All throughout, people wore tight-fitting bell-bottom jeans, preferably with flower patches and ankle fringe, T-shirts, or just a skimpy halter top. All of the peasant blouses complemented jeans. Anything handcrafted was considered an accessory, and many of them had peace symbols. Popular shirts and dresses had floral prints that stood for peace and love.
In general, people dressed in a way that they believed represented who they were as individuals and not only to follow the rules of fashion. For instance, both sexes wore their hair longer and it had an unruly, uncared-for appearance. This was in response to the mid-60s girl in the miniskirt who had neat, short hair.
Tumblr media
Woodstock 1969
At Woodstock over 250,000 hippies showed up to hear artists like Janis Joplin, The Who, Canned Heat, The Allman Brothers, and County Joe and the Fish. Woodstock was not just a music concert. It was a "profound religious experience."

The controversy of drugs
The most popular music of the time was psychedelic rock. Many of concerts were places for lippies to protest, socialise, dance, or take drugs. Drugs like marijuana and LSD were a big art of the hippy/counterculture movement. Using drugs made hippies feel like the were belling from mainstream society.
