[ 📹 Several severely wounded children are brought to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the city of Deir al-Balah after the Israeli occupation forces bombed several residential homes in the Bureij Refugee Camp, in the central Gaza Strip on Tuesday, resulting in a number of casualties among civilians. ]
🇮🇱⚔️🇵🇸 🚀🏘️💥🚑 🚨
GAZA GENOCIDE DAY 277: WORLD'S WEAPONS MANUFACTURERS IMPOSE UNOFFICIAL BAN ON TRANSFERS TO "ISRAEL", HALF A MILLION GAZANS FACE "CATASTROPHIC" LEVELS OF HUNGER, ISRAELI OCCUPATION FORCES CLOSE BAPTIST HOSPITAL IN GAZA CITY, ALL PRCS CLINICS NOW CLOSED AS OCCUPATION IMPOSES EVACUATIONS, MASS MURDER OF CIVILIANS CONTINUES
On 277th day of the Israeli occupation's ongoing special genocide operation in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) committed a total of 3 new massacres of Palestinian families, resulting in the deaths of no less than 50 Palestinian civilians, mostly women and children, while another 130 others were wounded over the previous 24-hours.
It should be noted that as a result of the constant Israeli bombardment of Gaza's healthcare system, infrastructure, residential and commercial buildings, local paramedic and civil defense crews are unable to recover countless hundreds, even thousands, of victims who remain trapped under the rubble, or who's bodies remain strewn across the streets of Gaza.
This leaves the official death toll vastly undercounted as Gaza's healthcare officials are unable to accurately tally those killed and maimed in this genocide, which must be kept in mind when considering the scale of the mass murder.
Foreign countries' weapons manufacturers, and exporters of raw materials used in weapons manufacturing, have imposed an informal ban on sales to "Israel" as its genocide in the Gaza Strip continues unabated, going into its 10th month.
According to the Israeli news site Calcalist, the Israeli Ministry of Defense, along with its military branches, are concerned with a situation that is developing in which the Israeli entity could face an ammunition shortage after several countries informally stopped trading weapons and materials with the occupation.
Calcalist says that European weapons manufacturers have begun ignoring their Israeli counterparts, no longer responding to their entreaties, while a major foreign power which is "not the United States", which used to trade with the occupation, has ceased trade of raw materials used in weapons manufacturing with the Zionist entity ever since its response to the events of October 7th began.
At the same time, reporting in the New York Times cautioned that the Israeli occupation army faces a shortage of 120mm artillery shells, with some tanks operating in Gaza being deployed with a smaller number of shells to slow the rate at which such shells are expended.
According to the Times, the occupation army is also facing a shortage of spare parts for D9 armored bulldozers, tanks, and armored personnel carriers.
Although the Israeli occupation promotes the establishment of new weapons manufacturing at home, ammunition produced in the occupied territories is expected to cost "tens of percent" more than imported shells and materials.
And while the Zionist entity is expected to boost domestic production of shells and other "simple" ammunition, it remains highly impractical and unlikely for the occupation to produce all the shells it needs.
Even in the case of boosted production, a large share of shells would still need to be imported due to the limited productive capabilities of the occupied territories, at a time when even the United States struggles to supply its Israeli and Ukrainian partners with all the shells the two warring allies require.
Secondly, for domestic munitions production to dramatically expand would require large amounts of raw materials which cannot be mined in the occupied territories, and so, even in the case of expanded production, many shells would still need to be imported from foreign countries.
Unfortunately for the Zionist entity, aside from the imposition of a quiet ban on sales of munitions to the Israeli occupation, several major suppliers of raw materials used in weapons manufacturing have also banned sales of such raw materials to the occupation.
And while the Israeli occupation has looked to diversify its suppliers of raw materials, and has purchased as much raw materials as possible since the start of the genocidal war in Gaza, defense contractors in the occupied territories have required help from the Ministry of Defense to acquire the necessary materials.
The occupation has caught a few breaks here and there, "another country" has begun selling raw materials to the occupation, while Serbia has provided air defenses since the start of the war.
However, due to the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, a global shortage of ammunition and raw materials has developed, leading to price increases and cut-throat competition for supplies.
Calcalist previously reported that due to the intensive use of ammunition since the start of ground operations in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli occupation army had already used some 100'000 shells by the end of November, 2023, just two months into its genocidal war.
Meanwhile, as the Zionist entity's war of extermination continues in the Gaza Strip, the United Nations' World Food Programme (WFP) is warning that "half a million people in the Gaza Strip are facing catastrophic levels of hunger."
Speaking on Monday in a post to the social media platform X, the WFP cautioned that Palestinian families in Gaza often do not receive full food rations on an ongoing basis.
The WFP declared that "unreliable access to humanitarian aid and limited stocks prevent families in Gaza from obtaining the food rations they need," and went on to to call for an "immediate ceasefire" in the Gaza Strip.
At the same time, United Nations' experts on Tuesday cautioned that famine has now spread throughout the Gaza Strip, explaining that the death of Palestinian children in Gaza as a result of malnutrition and dehydration confirms the spread of famine.
The experts warned that the death of a child the other day from malnutrition and dehydration indicates that health and social structures remain under Israeli attack and are severely weakened by the conditions imposed on the Strip.
The UN experts went on to warn that the Israeli occupation's ongoing starvation campaign against the Palestinian population constituted genocide and caused a famine, continuing by calling upon the international community to prioritize the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza by land, and to immediately end the blockade of the enclave.
Previously, on Sunday, a six-year-old child died as a result of malnutrition and dehydration, bringing the total number of deaths resulting from famine and dehydration in the Gaza Strip to 41 since October 7th.
It was also reported that at least 50 children are suffering from malnutrition and famine in Gaza, while symptoms of famine have been recorded in more than 200 children in total.
The Israeli occupation forces on May 7th took control over the Palestinian side of the Rafah and Karm Abu Salem border crossings, where the majority of humanitarian aid entered the Gaza Strip.
Following taking control over the border crossings, the occupation army burned the crossing's facilities to the ground and have since blocked the entry of humanitarian aid convoys, while at the same time blocking thousands of severely sick and wounded Palestinians from exiting Gaza to seek treatment abroad.
In other news on Tuesday, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA) announced the reopening of its healthcare center in the beleaguered city of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, several months after its facilities were "severely damaged" in January, with the hope of "supporting displaced families who returned to the area in search of shelter."
In a statement about the reopening posted to the social media platform X, the UNRWA said that "Our staff in Khan Yunis were able to reopen our health center after it was severely damaged last January."
"Given the lack of other health facilities in this part of Khan Younis, the clinic is essential to support displaced families who have returned to the area in search of shelter," the UN refugee agency added.
In further news, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) warned on Tuesday that "all medical points and emergency clinics" affiliated with the organization in the Gaza Strip have ceased their operations.
The Society explained that the closure of its facilities is a result of the Occupation's procedures of forced evacuation in various areas of Gaza where medical points and clinics are located.
At the time of publishing, just 15 of 36 hospitals remain just partially operational, with many sustaining damage from Israeli attacks, while the healthcare sector also suffers from a severe shortage of staff and medical supplies, including anesthesia and antibiotics, leaving healthcare professionals struggling to save lives under catastrophic conditions.
Since the start of the Israeli occupation's genocidal war in the Gaza Strip, more than 500 healthcare workers have been killed and hundreds more injured, while the occupation has arrested and detained at least 310 others and destroyed some 130 ambulances during the ongoing aggression.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has previously warned that the volume of medical supplies entering the Strip is "not sufficient to sustain the health response" and that "all medical evacuations out of Gaza remain suspended."
Several UN agencies and international institutions have also previously warned that the Zionist entity's targeting of hospitals and the healthcare sector in Gaza constitutes a clear violation of the principles and standards of International humanitarian law and the Fourth Geneva Convention, which guarantee special protections for hospitals and healthcare centers during armed conflicts and wars, while targeting them amounts to a crime against humanity and a war crime.
Yet, the Israeli occupation continues to target Gaza's healthcare infrastructure in direct violation of, and in disregard of, all international and humanitarian laws.
Meanwhile, the slaughter of civilians continues in Gaza as the Zionist army targets the homes, shelters and tents of the displaced, starving and suffering Palestinian population.
On Tuesday morning, Occupation fighter jets bombed a residential house in the city of Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip, resulting in a number of casualties among the civilian population.
At the same time, Zionist artillery detatchments targeted several neighborhoods west of the city of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, as well as in the vicinity of Al-Shifa Hospital, west of Gaza City, and a school in Al-Nuseirat, all of which were subjected to violent raids.
In further atrocities and war crimes, medical sources with Al-Ahli Arab Baptist Hospital in the city of Gaza stated that soldiers with the Israeli occupation army forced medical staff to close the hospital after its surrounds were subjected to violent gunfire from Merkava tanks and other armored vehicles.
According to residents and staff that witnessed the closure, all staff and patients, as well as displaced civilians seeking shelter in the hospital, were forced to leave under the threat of the occupying forces, exposing them to extreme dangers.
The crimes of the Israeli occupation continued when Zionist warplanes bombed a residential home in the New Camp area of the Al-Nuseirat Refugee Camp, in the central Gaza Strip, murdering at least 7 civilians and wounding several others.
In another atrocity, occupation fighter aircraft bombarded a residential house belonging to the Mahna family on Al-Jalaa Street, in the vicinity of the Ghafri Junction, north of Gaza City, while local paramedic crews managed to recover a small baby from the rubble alive.
Similarly, an occupation raid on the Lababidi area, north of Gaza City, resulted in the deaths of 3 citizens and wounded 3 others.
After another house was bombed by Israeli occupation forces on Al-Nafaq Street in Gaza City, local civil defense crews were able to recover a child, along with several other wounded civilians, from under the rubble of their home.
Local sources are also reporting that three civilians were killed after the Israeli occupation forces bombed a gathering of civilians in the Tal al-Sultan neighborhood, west of the city of Rafah, south of Gaza, while occupation Apache helicopters opened fire on several western neighborhoods of the city.
In more occupation war crimes, the Israeli occupation forces bombed a gathering of citizens near the Abu Rasas roundabout in the al-Bureij Camp, in the central Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of 9 Palestinians, most of whom were children, while a number of others were wounded in the attack.
Another citizen was killed, and several others wounded, after occupation artillery shelling targeted the Al-Maghribi Junction, in the Al-Sabra neighborhood, south of Gaza City.
According to some reports, at least 33 Palestinian civilians have been killed, and dozens of others wounded, as a result of Israeli bombing since dawn on Tuesday.
In more attacks, at least four Palestinians were killed, and several others wounded, as a result of an Israeli occupation airstrike on the Nuseirat Market, in the camp of the same name, in central Gaza.
As a result of the Israeli occupation's ongoing war of extermination against the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip, the current death toll now exceeds 38'243 Palestinians killed, including at least 10'000 women and more than 15'000 children, while another 88'033 others have been wounded since the start of the current round of Zionist aggression, beginning with the events of October 7th, 2023.

Tumbarumba Creek and the Goldrush
Tumbarumba Creek flowing past the town is idyllic - green grass picturesque bridges, monuments and artworks, a skatepark, and fitness walking trails - just a wonderful place for picnics and dog walking. It wasn't always like this though.
Tumblr media
Ninety-nine years of Gold Mining in the Tumbarumba region.
In 1885 Gold was discovered in Tumbarumba Creek, four years before the Townsite was surveyed. Mining continued until 1954, although commercial mining ceased in the early 1930s. During that time 3,380 kg of gold was delivered to the Government Mint from the local mines. The current value of this amount of gold in one kg gold bars is over two billion dollars.
REFERENCE: Willis J.L. 1969. Mining History of the Tumbarumba Gold Field. Geological Survey of New South Wales - Bulletin 23
Tumblr media
The Creek runs downstream under the bridge on Albury Street. Across the road, the Creek is restored from the ravages of more than fifty years of GOLD MINING.
Tumblr media
One thing, I noticed about this restoration was the removal of the old large weeping willow trees common here fifty years ago. Willows are among Australia's worst weeds because of their invasive tendencies, the potential for spread, and economic and environmental impacts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During floods, this creek rises quickly, sometimes causing evacuations from the Caravan Park, and blocking the bridge crossing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dawn light accentuates the beauty of the area.
Tumblr media
During mining, however, the creek bank was lowered by many metres as a huge water cannon blasted out the sediments to be separated from the alluvial gold in sluice boxes and trenches.
Tumblr media
This image gives some idea of the water power, even when the water level is low.
Tumblr media
The Creek divides and then rejoins.
Tumblr media
I started this post with some dog walkers and I would like to finish the same way. When this lady saw me approaching on the other side of the Creek, she stood till and the five dogs immediately sat still but at attention while we chatted and I took their "portrait". The dogs are three generations from one family ranging from an old male grandparent to a three-month-old pup. She reported that she has five different walks which the group does daily. Amazing dog training!
Tumblr media
On Saturday 12/2/23 starting at dawn, I walked along Tumbarumba Creek from where it joins Pound Creek to near the Booth Street Council Depot. I took photographs on my Nikon D500 camera for 90 minutes, using a 35mm f1.8 lens and a tripod. Most images were taken in the reconstructed area of the old regions mined, at the bottom of the Hill, where Tumbarumba Hospital overlooks the town.
Map from Google maps. Comments, shares, and questions are welcome.

40-20-60
I am my mother's daughter, yet when we walk the street she is mine.
When we walk the street, out the house, I am older. I am legally named her guardian, because she is too young to be her own.
20 year ago, the world had a new breakthrough. instead of AI or space travel, there was a drug that altered one's genetic composition to cease aging.
They'd marketed it as giving you a new life. One that had you frozen at the perfect age, at the perfect time. Now.
They used it to justify the lack of insurance they provided, the lack of guarantee, or time frame for how long it would last.
Even 15, I knew that the risk was astronomical. I was a business studies fan, a future entrepreneur with big dreams of her own sustainable, comfortable fashion line.
Those came true of course, but my point here is, I wanted that dream to come true. Which meant I did all the work, all the research, into marketing and economics and whatnot.
Which meant that I recognized the holes in their pitch. I figured out what they were lying about. I realized that the things they justified, they weren't just refusing to tell their customers. they themselves didn't know. That was why the costs were so low.
They figured that if such a miraculous thing costed less, with more credentials - and believe me they had credentials, what with being one of the biggest most famous companies in bioengineering - more people, for all over the world would buy it.
So I refused. Barely legal when they offered it, I'd done my research. I did my best to tell people, to stop them from buying it, but very few people believed me.
Then it went commercial. There was scientific proof, thousands of millions of people, were just fine. The worst side effects were people temporarily getting high, which well, it was a drug.
So I stopped convincing people. Gaslighted myself into believing it was false information. but there was always this nagging in the back of my mind, convincing me to never try it. And well, I wasn't exactly legal during its height of consumption, and it was technically a drug.
So when my mother chose to do it, I didn't say a word. And that is something I will regret forever.
I didn't always regret it you know. Not till a year ago, when I was 35 when the side effects popped up. In fact, I'd been close to doing it myself. I've never been more glad for my inbuilt habit of procrastinating, that I had worked so hard to get over.
3 years ago, on the 20th anniversary of the drug, videos started circulating on the internet. The original takers of the drug, they were getting de-aged.
They'd done too good of a job at stopping aging, to the point that they reversed it, and they hadn't even known.
Turns out, you were de - aged by exactly 40 years, exactly 20 years after starting to use it.
Nowadays, it's not really that big of an issue. Lots of people hadn't been using it that long, or had just stopped. In fact, now it's safer. Poeple have it in their 40's, ready to be 20 when they hit 60.
It goes to show how powerful information can be.
I don't think I'll ever do it however. I remember holding my mother, terrified and 50, looking forever 30 as the date of her first use approached, obsessively scrolling through articles of users who had just vanished, not yet 40 when 'DA Day' - As they were calling it - rolled around.
I promised myself I'd never subject my daughter, Sofia to sad smiles from strangers after she explains to them that no, this is my mother.
I wish I could hate my mother for subjecting me to it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
AN: Hi! I hope you liked my very first Tumblr story!
Please feel free to give me feedback in the comments, whether you liked it or not! I devour constructive criticism like a... uh something that devours stuff. As you can see, my creative battery desperately needs a recharge after that!
A drug is discovered that stops all effects of aging. You decide to not take it. 20 years pass and the side effects are discovered.

SBI Loses 40% Hash Power Following Russia Closure
SBI Holdings Inc., Japan's largest online broker, has ceased its crypto-mining operations in Russia, losing 40% of its hash power. The decision comes amid geopolitical tensions and the possibility of US sanctions on Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine. SBI reported a pretax loss of 9.7 billion yen ($71 million) in Q2 of fiscal year 2022, marking its first quarterly loss in a decade. The closure of Siberian mining operations led to a significant drop in SBI Crypto's mining hash rate. Despite this, SBI continues some mining activities in Russia. The company has not yet finalized its exit from Siberia but plans to maintain its commercial banking operations in Russia. Russia's hash rate dominance has waned due to geopolitical concerns and the resurgence of Chinese mining operations. Previous sanctions on Russian crypto entities have further impacted the country's crypto mining industry.

When prostitution is legalised a scale effect occurs, with 'legal' prostitutes being trafficked in hordes from impoverished countries into wealthier ones that have made paid rape legal. (see Germany: Local German women do not want or need to sell themselves, most prostitutes hail from Romania; Australia: Most prostitutes come from Thailand).
This supply is still not enough to keep up with demand, spawning illicit activity with women and children being abducted and monetised. Unsurprisingly, Johns do not care whether the woman they're using is there 'voluntarily' or not.
A woman shunted in from a poor neighbouring country under false pretences would still be considered a 'voluntary' prostitute. Travellers flock to developing countries with weak law enforcement regimes eg. Thailand, Colombia, (where prost is legal)and South Asia (where it's illegal) for the purpose of committing CSA.
This degrading , soul crushing trade bruises women's body and spirit. A lot of them can't see any path back to dignity, to hope, to reclaiming their bodies, their minds. They're convinced there is nothing of worth that they can offer the world. That all they're good for is to be used by vile men for their breasts, mouth and vagina.
It is in no way comparable to physical labour such as mining or to retail work. If it were truly that easy and appealing, most women would simply sell sex instead of work literally any other job. Prostitution is what women resort to when they hit the lowest of lows. Forced prostitution and its correlation with drug addiction is well documented.
Mining does not involve the violation of one's intimate body. The high suicide rates of women in the smut biz reveals that this is a specious comparison. One look at the high rates of depression and suicide among women in porn and prostitution is enough to tell you why such comparisons are specious.
A lot of women turn to it out of destitution caused by drugs or they start taking drugs to numb the daily indignities that are a feature of such work. It entrenches the wretchedness that drives women to it, leaving them worse off than before. All they get in return is a boatload of trauma and chronically low self-esteem.
Once you turn your body into a sex object and intimacy into a cold, empty commercial transaction, you void it of all meaning. It ceases to be fulfilling and a means to deepen the bond with someone you care about. You taint it for life.
Women find most men repulsive. A prostitute is not a magical, inhuman exception. She suppresses visceral disgust every time a lecherous man invades her body. The money is a meager redress, it can't even begin to ameliorate the pain. That years-long silencing of one's inner voice, the one that pleads for moral consideration, release, takes a massive mental toll.
The porn addled men who think fucjing/selling flesh for money is for funsies, that they'd swap places with a beautiful 304 in a heartbeat betray a dangerous lack of understanding of female desire and the psyche that underpins it.

To clarify, she ripped off from a novel of mine and posted it as a fanfic.
Having a legal defense fund does not mean AO3 does not and will not give information when legally asked the information about someone who posts fics there. And if OTW refused to cooperate it could be legally liable.
"Who are the OTW’s legal partners?
"The OTW’s Legal committee is consulting with the Stanford Fair Use Project and the Electronic Frontier Foundation."
OTW consults with SFUP and EFF. They do not represent OTW.
If an author or publisher no longer wanted to allow fanfics of a particular fandom, character, media, etc., they could legally demand its removal.
Fair use is a legal doctrine that promotes freedom of expression by permitting the unlicensed use of copyright-protected works in certain circumstances. Section 107 of the Copyright Act provides the statutory framework for determining whether something is a fair use and identifies certain types of uses—such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research—as examples of activities that may qualify as fair use. Section 107 calls for consideration of the following four factors in evaluating a question of fair use:
Purpose and character of the use, including whether the use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes: Courts look at how the party claiming fair use is using the copyrighted work, and are more likely to find that nonprofit educational and noncommercial uses are fair. This does not mean, however, that all nonprofit education and noncommercial uses are fair and all commercial uses are not fair; instead, courts will balance the purpose and character of the use against the other factors below. Additionally, “transformative” uses are more likely to be considered fair. Transformative uses are those that add something new, with a further purpose or different character, and do not substitute for the original use of the work.
Nature of the copyrighted work: This factor analyzes the degree to which the work that was used relates to copyright’s purpose of encouraging creative expression. Thus, using a more creative or imaginative work (such as a novel, movie, or song) is less likely to support a claim of a fair use than using a factual work (such as a technical article or news item). In addition, use of an unpublished work is less likely to be considered fair.
Amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole: Under this factor, courts look at both the quantity and quality of the copyrighted material that was used. If the use includes a large portion of the copyrighted work, fair use is less likely to be found; if the use employs only a small amount of copyrighted material, fair use is more likely. That said, some courts have found use of an entire work to be fair under certain circumstances. And in other contexts, using even a small amount of a copyrighted work was determined not to be fair because the selection was an important part—or the “heart”—of the work.
Effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work: Here, courts review whether, and to what extent, the unlicensed use harms the existing or future market for the copyright owner’s original work. In assessing this factor, courts consider whether the use is hurting the current market for the original work (for example, by displacing sales of the original) and/or whether the use could cause substantial harm if it were to become widespread.
That all said, if an author or publisher no longer wanted fanfiction of its original work, they could indeed challenge OTW (of which I'm a voting member, as many fanfic and trad writers are). Fanfiction that extensively uses original characters and worlds whose copyright is owned by people other than the fanfic author are technically illegal.
Tumblr media
I was just giving y'all a legal heads up. I'm indifferent whether you believe me or not. More than likely you'll never face a Cease & Desist. As a fanfic writer, I hope it doesn't come to OTW being challenged.
And because Life is short:
Tumblr media
Authors Convinced Fanfic is Illegal/Requires Permission
Terry Goodkind: “Copyright law dictates that in order for me to protect my copyright, when I find such things, I must go out and hire lawyers to threaten these people to make them stop, and to sue them if they don’t.”
John Scalzi: “Let's remember one fundamental thing about fanfic: Almost all of it is entirely illegal to begin with. It's the wild and wanton misappropriation of copyrighted material”
Diana Gabaldon: “OK, my position on fan-fic is pretty clear: I think it’s immoral, I know it’s illegal, and it makes me want to barf whenever I’ve inadvertently encountered some of it involving my characters.”
Robin Hobb: “Fan fiction is like any other form of identity theft. It injures the name of the party whose identity is stolen.”
Anne Rice: “I do not allow fan fiction. The characters are copyrighted. It upsets me terribly to even think about fan fiction with my characters. I advise my readers to write your own original stories with your own characters. It is absolutely essential that you respect my wishes.”
Anne McCaffrey: “there can be no adventure/stories set on Pern at all!!!!! That's infringing on my copyright and can bear heavy penalties…indiscriminate usage of our characters, worlds, and concepts on a 'public' media like electronic mail constitute copyright infringement AND, which many fans disregard, is ACTIONABLE!”
Chelsea Quinn Yarbro: “No. Absolutely not. It is also against federal law.”
Lynn Flewelling: “Whether you are writing about Seregil or Fox Mulder or Sherlock Holmes, if you do not have legal permission from the author, their estate, or publisher, then you are violating US copyright law. It is creative piracy. Doesn't matter how many disclaimers you put on, or if you're being paid. It. Is. Illegal.”

Gone with the Wind? Underwater Cultural Heritage and Wind Power Dilemma in Penghu
By Shannon Chang, Emma Shen, Wendy Lo, and KC Yang
Tumblr media
Penghu, located at the heart of the Taiwan Strait, has historically been surrounded by major navigational routes. From the 16th to the 18th centuries, vessels traveling between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan often used Penghu as a stopover on their route.
In the 19th century, international trade routes also passed through the northern waters of Penghu. A large number of merchant and fishing vessels traversed this area over centuries. However, the waters near Penghu are affected by strong winds and unpredictable currents, along with many hidden reefs, making it a perilous area for vessels. Some of these distressed vessels were salvaged, while others sank to the sea floor, becoming a rich part of the underwater cultural assets.
As Taiwan pushes forward in its quest for renewable energy, the government is actively developing offshore wind power. Penghu presents optimal conditions for wind power development, luring companies to invest in harnessing the gusts that blow over the strait. As turbines prepare to nestle amidst the waves, a pressing issue emerges from the depths - the delicate equilibrium between energizing the future and preserving the past.
Tumblr media
Swept by the Southwest and Northeast monsoons, Penghu harbors a high potential for wind energy generation. According to Central Weather Bureau’s data, the annual average wind speed is 6.3 meters per second, with the average wind speed in November and December reaching up to 8.4 meters per second. Currently, the Geological Survey and Mining Management Agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs is conducting surveys in the waters of Penghu. Wind turbine manufacturers have taken interest in the northern waters off Jibei Island in Penghu, designating four offshore wind farm sites, including the “Huanpeng No.1 to No.3 Offshore Wind Power Projects” led by Taiya Renewable Energy, and the “Guofeng Offshore Wind Power Project” announced by the Spanish energy company Iberdrola.
Additionally, the “Hailong No.2 and No.3 Projects” along with the “Xufeng Project” in the Changhua waters are under construction, and they overlap with Penghu shipwrecks. Among them, the “Hailong No.2 and No.3 Projects” have passed the review process and secured financing, aiming for completion and commercial operation before 2026.
Tumblr media
The “Underwater Cultural Heritage Preservation Act” stipulates that before undertaking any aquatic development, developers must conduct an investigation of underwater cultural assets. If suspected underwater cultural assets are discovered, development activities must cease immediately, and the Ministry of Culture must be notified. Zang Zhenhua, an academician at the Institute of History and Philology of the Academia Sinica, pointed out that wind turbine manufacturers indeed adhere to the regulations set by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, steering clear of regions potentially rich in underwater cultural assets. However, the current progress in the detection and identification of underwater cultural assets in Taiwan is quite slow, casting a shadow of uncertainty of whether there are yet undiscovered valuable assets in the potential development areas.
Tumblr media
The wind turbines to be used in “Huanpeng No.1 Offshore Wind Power Project” are expected to have a height of 260 meters and will be installed on the seabed at depths of 20 to 40 meters, with a “jacket structure” used for the underwater foundation, anchored to the seabed with three or four pin piles. Presently listed as cultural heritages, shipwrecks and scattered artifacts lie on the seabed 3 to 10 meters deep and seem unlikely to be directly affected by the wind turbines. However, Zang points out that a large number of target objects are not yet listed for protection. Moreover, there might be more undiscovered cultural assets buried deeper under the sea floor, all of which could be damaged during the construction of the wind turbines.
Tumblr media
As of the end of December in 2019, the underwater archaeology team from the Academia Sinica discovered a total of 90 suspected shipwreck sites in the waters around Taiwan, with 20 of them confirmed as shipwrecks or other target objects. Zang stated that currently, eight sites have been completed for the underwater cultural assets registry, of which six are in Penghu (with one location not disclosed). The known five shipwrecks include: (1) a Qing Dynasty wooden boat from the mid to late Qing period, sunken in the southwest waters of Kongque Island; (2) the “Jiangjyun No.1,” which sank near Wang’an Tanmen Harbor during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty; (3) the S.S. Bokhara merchant ship that ran aground north of Gupo Island in 1892; (4) the Warship Guang Bing that sank in the southeast waters of Jiangjun Island in 1895; and (5) the Yamafuji Maru, which was sunk by torpedoes from an American submarine at the Six Feet Reef on the west side of Penghu in 1942.
Zang believes that ancient navigational routes could serve as pointers for locations of shipwrecks. However, vessels might have deviated from their courses due to typhoons, encounters with reefs, and other factors. To pinpoint more precise locations of shipwrecks, it’s crucial to gather information from local chronicles, news reports, oral histories from local fishermen, and other documents, Zang added.
Zang also highlighted that at present, the predominant methods used to identify underwater cultural assets are acoustic and magnetic signal detections, just like the Chinese idiom “finding a needle in the sea.” He said that the most direct and effective method is having detection personnel dive into the sea for visual identification, yet the shortage of personnel poses a challenge, hindering the pace of exploration and resulting in slow progress.
The challenges encountered in exploring underwater cultural assets may not be resolved in the short term, while the development of wind power is advancing rapidly. Zang hopes that through education and advocacy, the public will recognize the value of underwater cultural assets, emphasizing that “once the assets are damaged, the loss is permanent.”
As Penghu embarks on the journey of wind power development, finding a balance between the pursuit of sustainability and the preservation of history will be the compass guiding it towards smooth sailing.

Venezuela was one of the first Latin American countries to establish its own crypto oversight body, the National Superintendency of Crypto Assets (Sunacrip). Now, the government says it will take six extra months to ‘reorganize” the entity, which de-facto stopped its work in March 2023. According to the presidential decree, published on Sept 19, the head of State, Nicolás Maduro, ordered the extension of the period of forced reorganization of Sunacrip for another semester. The period of the new extension officially started on Sept. 17 and will last until March 24, 2024. Sunacrip was closed in March 2023, when the government announced its reorganization due to the corruption scandal involving its former top management. At the time at least ten people were arrested, including Joselit Ramirez Camacho, who led the crypto department from its inception in 2018. According to Venezuelan prosecutors, Ramirez stole more than $3 million from the state during his time at Sunacrip. He was in charge of overseeing the crypto regulation in the country, as well as the implementation of Venezuelan national cryptocurrency tied to oil reserves, Petro. The shutdown of the regulatory body led to chaos in the Venezuelan crypto industry, firmly tied to the state, which has been using digital assets to evade the U.S. financial sanctions — crypto mining facilities in several states were shut down, and some crypto exchanges were ordered to cease operations. Sunacrip was established by the Venezuelan government in 2018 to inspect the entirety of crypto-related commercial activities in the country and the “creation, emission, transfer, commercialization and exchange” of all crypto actives. In 2018, the country launched the oil-backed cryptocurrency Petro. By the summer of 2023, there were reports that the government planned to liquidate the currency, however, its official webpage is still functioning at time of publication.  Source

So Hokey Wolf and his boon compadre, Ding-a-Ling, were out walking when the following is brought up:
HOKEY WOLF, rather excitedly in his Sgt. Bilko stylee: Ding my boy! Do you remember a certain commercial for Dristan which claimed at the end that, thanks to its effectiveness in treating allergies, one could even chew on ragweed? DING-A-LING: Hokey, I have to admit that the idea of chewing on a known allergen like ragweed sounds rather crazy, to begin with, but-- HOKEY WOLF, interjecting: But, Ding, don't you understand that the premise was basically one of puffery, of exaggeration, like we happen to be fond of? Hardly anyone could be imagined chewing on ragweed anyway, let alone Johnson grass, or even wild hemp plants, for that matter, never mind this whole CBD thing! DING-A-LING: Hokey, your very fabulistic way of thinking never ceases to amaze me.... HOKEY WOLF: Still, though, Ding, we have a couple nights with Harmony Wolf up at the lake forthcoming, not to mention swimming, diving, the sheer pleasure of relaxation--and maybe some quality time with that lupine gal of mine, Harmony Wolf! DING-A-LING, somewhat nervously: By "quality time," Hokey, do you mean--lovemaking? HOKEY WOLF: Obviously, Ding my lad! And can my gal Harmony certainly teach you those "facts of life" most directly, and may I add, WONDERFULLY! Just one night with her, Ding, and I assure you things will certainly feel even more RELAXING, for after all, Ding, lovemaking is expected to feel so relaxing and destressing!! Now, what do you say to the whole? DING-A-LING, now somewhat excited: Hokey is MY HERO!

Russia’s myths about food security and the Black Sea Grain Initiative
Russia’s unjustifiable war against Ukraine has severely damaged Ukraine’s economy and exacerbated global food insecurity. Having long been the “breadbasket of Europe” and feeding millions across the globe, Ukraine was once a top grain supplier to dozens of African and Middle Eastern countries. But after February 2022, Russia imposed a blockade on Ukrainian trade routes through the Black Sea, mined Ukrainian agricultural fields, burned crops, and destroyed Ukraine’s food storage supplies.
As such, the resumption of Ukrainian grain exports via the Black Sea route amid the ongoing war was dubbed “a beacon of hope” in a world that desperately needs it by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres at a ceremony dedicated to the signing of the Black Sea Grain Initiative plan on July 22, 2022, in Istanbul, Türkiye.
Linked to efforts to ensure Russian food and fertilizer reach global markets, the plan was enforced with the aim of supporting the stabilization of spiralling food prices worldwide and stave off famine, which could affect millions.
The Initiative specifically allows commercial food and fertilizer exports from the Odesa, Chornomorsk, Yuzhny/Pivdennyi Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea.
Since August 2022, the Black Sea Grain Initiative has shipped over 32 million metric tons of Ukrainian grain and foodstuffs to the world, including some of the most food insecure regions of the globe like the Horn of Africa, the Sahel, Yemen, and Afghanistan. Every shipment under the Initiative has contributed to reducing hardship in the world’s poorest countries, since bringing grain to world markets lowers food prices for all.
Despite Russia’s claims, the UN has facilitated record Russian exports of food, coordinating with the private sector and with the U.S., EU, and UK to clarify any concerns raised by Russia. Russia does not contribute to the World Food Program, and its exports focus on higher income countries, not the world’s poorest.
For almost a year of the Black Sea Grain Initiative’s existence, Russia has systematically spread misinformation about the goals and results of the initiative while using global food supply as blackmail. Eventually, as of July 18, 2023, Russia completely ceased its participation in the agreement, jeopardizing food security around the world.
These are the main myths that Russia has spread and continues to spread about the Black Sea Grain Initiative and global food security:
Myth: The sanctions imposed by the international community on Russia in response to its war against Ukraine are increasing global food insecurity and hindering Russian exports of food and fertilizers.
Truth: Trade in Russian agricultural products is completely exempt from Western sanctions.
The U.S. sanctions specifically allow transactions related to agricultural products and fertilizers. The European Union and the United Kingdom are also making efforts to protect food and agricultural products. Meanwhile, Russia has effectively restricted its own exports in an effort to maximize profits at the expense of vulnerable populations around the world. Moscow has also introduced export quotas on certain types of fertilizers.
Myth: Most grain exported from Ukraine goes to the European Union.
Truth: Almost half of Ukraine’s grain exports went to low- and middle-income countries in Africa and Asia.
“Developing” countries receive approximately 65% of Ukraine’s wheat, while the poorest, least developed countries” receive approximately 19%. A significant portion of the Ukrainian harvest shipped to Turkey – 18% of total exports as of September 2022 – is processed and exported as flour to Africa and the Middle East.
Myth: The Black Sea Grain Initiative aims to help the West profit from the low- and middle-income countries, not to reduce world food prices.
Truth: Russia is harming global food security by limiting supply and thus keeping prices high so that Moscow can make record profits from the war it has unleashed.
Myth: Ukraine and the West use hunger as a weapon.
Truth: High-ranking Kremlin officials and state-paid propagandists are openly calling on the government to weaponize hunger. By imposing a blockade on Ukrainian Black Sea trade routes, Russia has turned food supply into a bargaining chip.
In April 2022, Russia’s former President and the Deputy Chairman of the country’s Security Council Dmitri Medvedev threatened to use Russia’s food supplies –  which he called “our quiet” but “formidable weapon” – to influence global food security.
On June 17, 2022, in an interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin,  Editor-in-Chief of Russia’s state-directed propaganda outlets RT and Rossiya Segodnya Margarita Simonyan cited what she called a “cynical joke” about the “hope for [world] famine.” Simonyan explained that “different people” hope for famine because it will “bring them [the West] to reason,” leading to the removal of sanctions and a friendship with Russia. This will happen, Simonyan implied, because Russia’s ability to cause famine will force the West to realize that it is “impossible” not to be friends with Russia.
Russia must stop its attacks on global food security and fully implement the Black Sea Grain Initiative immediately for the benefit of the millions of people who depend on Ukrainian grain.
Based on U.S. Department of State materials.

FRESH MANNA
THE SPIRIT OF BRUTALITY
Ezekiel 45:9-19
Brutality, cruelty and violence have become an acceptable way of life all over the world. The leaders of the nations are urged to be thoroughly honest in their commercial dealings with both God and man but that's not happening, especially in today’s society.
The atrocious killings of the innocents by those who swore to protect them, maintain their rights and uphold the laws are the very ones oppressing and desecrating their basic right to life.
People take law and justice into their hands, hacking, beheading, and killing fellow humans even in ways they will not do to animals.
Take away your levy from my people says the Lord in verse 9, this is the voice of God to the rulers and peoples of the earth, especially in this season of violence, threats, and brutality. Take away your exactions; do not oppress the people, stop using brutal force on them and exerting undue power on the people, they are mine. I am their stronghold and will defend them adds Psalm 9:9.
“Enough is enough” is the cry all across the nations of the world, voices ring loud in solidarity over the principalities of rebellion, violence, unforgiveness, and offence, over the agents of wickedness that incites destruction, violence and brutality, causing communities to be fractured, families broken and lives destroyed.
The song of David in 2 Samuel 22 contains a strong sense of thanksgiving to God for His deliverance and rescue in a day of trouble. We are in the day of troubles now, God can save us with just a blast of His nostrils from the spirit of brutality that is gaining ground rapidly to extinguish the light of the children of men according to Ezekiel 7:11.
Pride has budded. ”And what has it birthed? Violence and iniquity, the wickedness of men and nations so great that God must punish it. They may strive to evade the threatened stroke of God, but they shall not succeed, nor will they have any relief. None of the perpetrators of spiritual brutality will be left, not any of their partners, wives, or children will escape.
The Barton of leadership is meant to be passed on to the younger generation but if they are all killed off, who will take over tomorrow? “Children are the future, teach them well…. but instead, the enemy is systematically and brutally taking the millennials out and leaving “old dogs” that cannot learn or be taught new tricks.
Let’s begin to declare in unity according to Isaiah 60:8 that brutality, violence, and unnecessary and untimely death of youths would not be heard in the land anymore. “Enough is enough.” Decree that the powers of destruction and the spirit of brutality will be unable to operate in the borders of the lands and that instead revival would begin to take place.
There’s nowhere to run or hide, everything is now in the open, even the crimes and atrocities to humanity committed in secret, they are all laid before the Lord says Hebrew 4:13.
Like the fig leaves that Adam and Eve vainly tried to cover their shame with, Isaiah 59:6 says nothing can cover the crimes of the wicked and unrighteous, doing evil works in the nations today.
Spiritual brutality is their choice of judiciary, but God is the righteous judge who will not allow the wicked according to Psalm 125:3 take the land that He has allotted to the righteous.
Enough is enough for the spirit of brutality.
PRAYER: Oh Lord, I come against every cruel and violent work of the enemy in our society and command the spirit of brutality to cease terrorising God’s people in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Shalom
Women of light international prayer ministries.
